    dagwood and country fried steak
    Seyla T.

First time here and it was great! A nice hidden gem of a diner in West Ashley. Service is quite fast, food is delicious, and it is a very casual diner vibe here. I have been wanting a club sandwich and got the the dagwood which had the ham in it like I wanted! Large portions of turkey and ham, bacon was perfect and crispy. I will definitely get it again when I want a club sandwich. Boyfriend always enjoys the country fried steak when he gets it and is his go to order!! I had a bite and it was tasty! Will definitely come back when I'm craving some breakfast or diner food.

A hidden Gym in Charleston! I would have never thought twice about it had my friend not taken me there. There's plenty of seating for any size party and a large menu that will satisfy any craving. The friendly staff is also there to help you decide your meal. With great prices and large portions to boot! Definitely local diner vibes. I let my eyes eat instead of my stomach and needed up ordering too much. I ordered the Country fried steak cheese and egg biscuit, French toast, Harbor Saute, and the Montana Omlete. Definitely did not eat it all but I happily took everything to go and I continued to enjoy my food. Next time I'm in town this is a must stop for food.

Service is always great here. Feels like a family-owned diner. Multiple places to sit. Ordered the regular breakfast platter with eggs, choice of meat, and grits or hashbrowns. Grits were thick and so delicious! Always have a good meal anytime I go here.

Sue's breakfast with bacon for my meat and over medium eggs.

Five Star Friday!! In the last few weeks I've eaten here twice and have had incredible experiences. Each day they have a great amount of offerings on their specials board. They also have a very extensive regular menu. The first visit I had Sue's Special breakfast; 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, and a pancake. I normally wouldn't order something I can make at home, but I'm glad I did order it. Everything was tasty. Earlier this week I returned with a few members of one of my networking groups. We have an in-person meeting once a month on Monday's, so I made us a list of local restaurants that are open on Monday. The Bear E Patch it was! This visit I ordered the Cabo Wrap; grilled chicken, bacon, peppers, onions, cheese, and a spicy Cabo sauce. The sauce was a chipotle sauce. After my first couple bites I was in love with the grilled chicken. It was seasoned perfectly and juicy and oh so yummy. I was having a hard time finding the sauce, so I asked for an extra side of it. The sauce is so yummy too. I will definitely order this again! Every time I've been here (I used to go years ago when I lived in West Ashley) to my two most recent visits the staff is always excellent. My friend Paul who's been going here for years too said it was the first place he found in WA with a diverse staff and that's why he fell in love with supporting the Patch. Until next time BEPC!

This place is hands-down a gem. It's locally owned and gives you the vibe of a mom & pop restaurant. True southern charm. When we walked in the place look packed and I was nervous about getting a table with six people during breakfast brunch. We were told wouldn't be long and they meant that. We were seated less than 10 minutes. This is the kind of place that people go for breakfast eat and leave. And I mean that in the best way possible it's like the guests know there's a a good bit of traffic during breakfast. And with good reason, the food & service was amazing. I can't wait to go visit Charleston again just to eat here.

If you are looking for a local restaurant that the local goes to, this is it, this is one of those restaurants. On a Saturday, We arrived at 7:55am, three minutes before it opens, the parking lot only has a few cars, so we decided to sit in the car and wait. Well by 7:58am, the parking lot was starting to fill up. As soon as the door opens at 8am, we walked it and we can just find our own seats. By 8:15am, the place was packed and you have wait for a table. The service was excellent, all the staff was nice and kind. They always try to refill the coffee. The diner feels of the restaurant feels good, not feeling old and dirty. The food was great, I have the Skillet with Sausage, potatoes, onion, and peppers topped with gray, it also comes with two eggs and Grits. It was a lot of food. It tasted great and great value. If I am in the area, I will come back again for sure

Stopped by for breakfast and like usual it did not disappoint. I ordered the French toast and bacon. And my husband ordered seafood omelet, pancakes, and grits. We both enjoyed everything. We only had to wait about 15 minutes. But it does get busy. Staff is always friendly and makes recommendations if you ask. Very laid back atmosphere. It's a no frills cafe but the food is wonderful.

The people were very nice. The food was good. It looked clean. Try the pie. Be sure you check out the specials on the wall.

Their banana bread had been recommended to me as a must-try but after a quick glance at the menu, I wanted to try at least five other things. First things first: the banana bread. 10/10. If you leave here without getting a slice warmed up with butter, you're doing yourself a serious disservice. It didn't even taste like banana bread but had the texture of a soft eggy French toast. I was so entranced with it that I managed to squirrel away half for the next day. Also got their jammy eggs because I'm an egg fiend. They were delicious, topped with chives and some chili crisp, but $7 for two eggs in this economy was a little hard to swallow. Next time I'm here, I'd want to try the quiche and the pickled shrimp toast. And they also have peanut milk?? Tucked away on a side street off the much busier King, Babas can be easy to miss but wow - talk about treasures coming in tiny sizes. There's some indoor seating and outdoor tables but don't bank on getting a table right away if you're coming on a weekend morning. The line moves quickly so we didn't mind waiting.

I didn't order any food, but I looked around and it looked really good as well. I highly recommend making a point to stop here in Charleston.

The hostess took my phone number down and said she would text me to let me know when our table was ready. Since this location is in downtown Charleston, it was easy to wander around outside and keep ourselves entertained until I got the text that our table was about to be ready and we had 10 minutes to check in. Once I checked in, we were seated immediately and told to scan the QR code at the table to see the menu. A few minutes later, our server came by and asked if we wanted coffee or other drinks. After she came back with drinks, she took our order. I got the cornmeal pancakes. They are made of cornmeal so they had a different taste than what I was used to with pancakes. It wasn't a bad taste. They tasted like a combo of sweet, but also savory. They also felt very light so I didn't feel overstuffed after eating them. Because of how busy they are, they got us in and out in less than 40 minutes. There are signs at the table to not stay longer than 90 minutes, but this was no problem here. Just something to keep in mind to not hang around if you're done with your meal and you see a giant wait outside. As we were leaving, other people were being quoted about a 45+ minute wait. Since it's in downtown Charleston, there is no dedicated parking lot. However, there is street parking available nearby. As someone that cannot parallel park, I went the safe route and parked in a parking garage that was close by. I paid $4 for that. Overall, great breakfast place and quick service!

We were quoted an hour when we put our name in, then got a text update saying it would be up to 1.5hrs and we ended up waiting almost 2. We were all very excited about the lucky charms latte so almost our entire table ordered it, some hot, some cold. It was very visually pleasing but unfortunately taste wise, it wasn't anything special and did not taste like lucky charms aside from the actual marshmallows on top. We ordered a cinnamon bun to share as well as entrees. The cinnamon bun was tasty, it was more of a biscuit like texture, different, but good! We were all thoroughly pleased with our entrees, they ranged from frittata and the okra dish to the king street bowl. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and it was worth the longer than anticipated wait.

There must have been a miscommunication between staff members, because after we were seated, nobody came to serve our table, and we had to ask for a server. We weren't the only people that this happened to, as another group of patrons sat next to us, and then got up and left after not being served for an extended period of time. After flagging down a server, the experience was fine, but nothing spectacular. Out waitress wasn't very attentive, which was a little frustrating because we were on a timeline. This was kind of disappointing, because I really did like the ambiance of the restaurant, and it would have been nice if the experience was representative of that. They had a really cool open-air brick oven for pizzas, and I loved the aesthetic of the bar as well. Luckily, they had a few IPAs in a can, and my friend said that their drink was pretty good as well. All-in-all, Toast! All Day was a cool restaurant, but the poor communication between staff members kind of put a damper on the experience. I would be willing to come back and give it another shot in the future, however.

Poogan's Porch is a couple blocks off the main Market/Bay path, but it's still close to a good number of hotels and historic sites. It was a casual 15 minute stroll from my hotel right on E Bay. The service and food were excellent and the setting is inside a finely converted historic style home. We had a reservation for brunch on a weekday, but it wouldn't have been impossible to walk in that time of day. I would assume that it gets busier on weekends and in more tourist seasons. There is an option for outside seating, but in the Charleston heat and humidity, we opted for sitting inside. My friend and I each got cocktails and entrees. Cocktails were generously sized and reasonably priced. I was right to get the cajun remoulade on the side of my Fried Chicken Sandwich as this allowed me to dole out my spice as I could tolerate. My friend's Chicken and Waffles were fluffy and moist. The seasoning on these boneless chicken tenders was *chef's kiss*. Here's the only thing that I will mention as a drawback: The bathrooms. I understand this is a converted house and the historic-ness is part of its charm. However, when your women's bathroom has two stalls and one of the toilets isn't screwed into the floor and you cannot close the door without straddling the bowl... there's an impact to your enjoyment of the restaurant. I would emphasize this even more when the waste basket in the bathroom is overflowing and there are multiple hosts at the host stand waiting for customers to come in. If you haven't been to Poogan's Porch, it's worth a visit the next time you're in Charleston.
