Bonnie and I were in NY City for my son Shane's wedding last weekend. While we were there, we decided to see Little Shop of Horrors off Broadway. Right next door is Bea and based on its reviews we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did, this speak ez vibed restaurant was everything we hoped for. Brick walls with multiple classic movies playing on them, subtle lighting, gorgeous bar. Other reviews I read, complained it was too loud. Maybe it was because we were there right at opening, 5pm, but our party of 14 had no trouble conversing and it was almost full by 5:30. The service was impeccable and started with their graciously combing our 3 reservations into one large table. We had 2 servers who took our drink and food orders and everything came out promptly and prepared correctly. Our check was delivered as soon as the dishes were cleared and we were right on time for the show. We started with my usual Grey Goose Martini, a little dirty, it was prepared perfectly in a classic martini glass just the way I like. Bonnie tried one of their specialty cocktails, the "Anything Goes" and said it was the perfect compliment to her dinner. We started with the roasted beet salad and it was delicious, they applied just the right amount of sherry vinaigrette to highlight the mixed greens, but not to much as to make it soggy. We shared the Seabass and the macaroni and cheese side as our entrée. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, and a perfect blend of mozzarella, Gouda and Parmesan. The pasta was perfectly al dente, which is hard to pull off in a baked dish. The Chilean sea bass was cooked to perfection, crispy exterior and flaky interior that was moist yet firm and fully cooked. The accompanying buttered corn, brussle sprouts, red onion and micro greens complimented it perfectly. The rest of our party were also pleased with everything they ordered, especially the green pasta and lamb choGiven more time we would have sampled some of their desserts which looked amazing, but alas Audrey 2 was waiting next door.
Béa NYC delivers a cozy, elevated brunch experience that feels both comforting and indulgent. The ambiance is warm and inviting--perfect for a relaxed brunch, a catch-up with friends, or a casual date. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The bread service was simple but done right--fresh, crusty, and perfectly toasted, paired with creamy butter that melted effortlessly. The Brioche French Toast was the true star of the table: thick-cut, fluffy on the inside, golden on the outside, topped with strawberries, bananas, mixed berries, and drizzled with Nutella. Every bite was rich, decadent, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. You can really tell care goes into both the quality and presentation of the dishes--comfort food done with intention. Overall, Béa NYC is a great spot for brunch classics executed well, a welcoming atmosphere, and an effortlessly chic vibe. Definitely a place worth visiting--and revisiting.
Classic old movies play in the background projected on the brick walls. That is the vibe. And I mean super old. It is a serene spot in Hell's Kitchen. We started with the cheese board and a bottle of Domaine Carneros Brut Rose. Charcuterie was not available due to supply chain issues. We followed the cheese with Tuna Tartare which also paired well with the wine. I chose the Lamb Chops with mashed potatoes and chimichurri sauce for my main. Delish! Overall I enjoy coming here. Conveniently located on a quiet street, reasonably priced food with good service, and a solid wine list.
Meet up with someone who picked this place for dinner. It's a speak easy so you might miss the door and walk right pass it like I did. It is very dimmed inside, going along with the theme, even the bathroom. Our waiter was patient with us and give us time to chat and enjoy. I've never heard or had duck turnover before so of course I had to try it which turned out to be very good. It is very filling and the quac gives it that nice creamy texture. The lavender cocktail was very good too, not too sweet or strong. They also were showing movies via projector on the walls. It was a little loud so it was little hard to hear sometimes but overall a nice spot to hang out.
Stopped in here for drinks and a break from the congestion of al the sports bar activity. The old movie ambience was a pleasant surprise and the service was refreshing.
Stopped here before heading to see Harry Potter on Broadway, and it turned out to be a great choice. The location is super convenient only about a 10-minute walk to the Lyric Theatre, making it perfect for pre- or post-show dining. We had a reservation but ended up running late due to traffic. The staff was very understanding and accommodating, which I really appreciated. For a Saturday night, it wasn't overly packed, and the atmosphere had a nice, dark, relaxing vibe. We started off with cocktails, which were delicious. I was a little bummed that the lamb chops and scallops weren't available, but we pivoted to a few small plates and two entrées. Everything we ordered came out with great flavor. The portions are tapas-style, very shareable, and just right for two people. I'd recommend going with a couple of apps and two entrées for a satisfying meal. Parking in the area can be tricky, but I paid for a spot nearby, which made it easier. Overall, Bea delivered on food, drinks, and ambiance I'd definitely come back.
This spot was phenomenal. We sat out in the garden and it wasn't too hot at all. The kale salad with shrimp was delicious as well as the burrata and bread with honey drizzled.... My mouth watered for that app. The ambiance was perfect. Really I was so surprised that I lived in midtown for a whole year and never went to this spot. I wish I found it sooner and I will be back for brunch!
I'd round this up to 3.5 stars. We went for an early dinner at 5pm -- and with an off-Broadway theater showing Little Shop of Horrors a few doors down, definitely recommend reservations, even if on the early side! Bea gives old school speakeasy vibes, and the decor really is wonderful. My friend had the shepherd's pie and really enjoyed it; I had a cream of tomato soup which was fine. They chef pureed bell peppers with the tomato, which I don't care for, so not my favorite. The bread that came on the side was not typical bread and perfect for a tomato soup. I also had the pork dumplings. The dumplings themselves were excellent; the sauce had some kind of herb in it that I didn't think worked. I think they would've been better with a more traditional dumpling sauce (soy sauce-based rather than sweet/spicy). Our real challenge is that the place is LOUD. We got to sit in a two-top that was close to the door, and even there, it was loud once it filled up. I think if we'd sat elsewhere we wouldn't have been able to have a conversation. The lighting is also dark, especially in the restroom -- so not a very accessible place. I said to my friend that I'd like to try Bea again during lunchtime in the hopes it wouldn't be as noisy (maybe it would be, who knows? Theater district, amiright?). The rest of the menu looked good and I'd like to try something else!
Bea was an enjoyable dinner spot. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very nice. They have local beers plus a decent selection of wine and cocktails. The kale caesar was delicious! The eggplant and tofu was also good but the eggplant was a little tough. It had a nice moderate spice to it though. I loved the brick interior, and they also projected a black and white film on the back wall. There's also outdoor patio seating which is nice when there's good weather.
I have now been to Bea for both dinner and brunch and all I can say is wow - food here has been consistent and very good. The plus is that it is close enough to the theaters but just far enough to enjoy a bit of respite. I would recommend coming here before or after a show for a bite and a sip. The staff is always kind and accommodating. The first time I came here for dinner, I got the green pasta - the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I also got the maracuya mama drink which was phenomenal. The most recent time I got the quiche and ricotta appetizer for brunch.

Bea is conveniently located about a 10-15 minute walk from the Broadway theatres so it's a great pre-show dinner stop. I didn't have a reservation but I was able to be seated at the bar immediately. I ordered a kale Caesar salad, a side of fries and a mocktail. Items that can be modified to be gluten-friendly are labeled. My mocktail was delicious and the food was pretty good! Despite not being super busy, I did have to flag the bartender about 10-15 minutes after I got my food to get the check and head on to the show. Overall this was great, I would recommend!
Love a visit to Bea. This time was with my sister for brunch before a show. We sat in the cute outdoors garden area, and had some fun brunch dishes and drinks. The casual setting, the great service, the good food, all are there. Can't wait to go back.
While I'm not normally there for the food, they always guarantee a nice meal with great service. I sit at the bar every visit and love the feeling of being at home or at the bar with friends when speaking to the bartenders / mixologists. The tuna tartare is my favorite dish, along with any of their cocktails. I LOVE the espresso martini.. Although, one of the young ladies recently convinced me to try it with Hendricks Gin and truly was delicious! Movies always being projected on two different walls in the restaurant. Finding the right place to dine after a Broadway show can be like identifying the right wine pairing at a fancy restaurant. Oh, who am I kidding? Jamie W. and I were just looking for grub after seeing "Some Like It Hot" at the Shubert on W. 44th. This spot was just a couple of blocks away at W. 43rd and 9th Avenue, so we were happy, especially since they didn't close until 2AM. With a lot of exposed brick and a big bar in the middle, we just knew this restaurant would be popular with the bros, and it was. The bros like to sling their skinny arms over the booth dividers, while they laugh heartily at their own flatulence jokes. Even without proper dining etiquette, we managed to secure a booth free of flailing appendages. We noticed vintage movies were silently flickering on three different walls like a scene from "Cinema Paradiso". The menu was pretty hearty meat-and-potatoes dishes but with a cosmopolitan flair. Our eyes went directly to the $21 Pretzel Bun Burger. It had all the right ingredients - a hefty, juicy medium-rare patty of Angus beef, smoked Gouda cheese, and... Jamie and I were pretty happy as well. The vibe in here was convivial as our server was friendly and made us feel like a burger and fries were a wise nutritional decision at 11:30PM. I had reservations for brunch and was seated right away. It has a cute decor and I was seated in the garden porch area. I got the French toast which was good. There was occasional water dripping on me though which was annoying. The meal with a soda was $23 which I thought was very reasonable. read more

The food and drinks were great. However, the service was lacking. We only got appetizers, and it took over 30 minutes for those to arrive. We got our drinks several minutes after the food. Water was never refilled, and our server never checked in on us. Overall, go if you have time and patience to spare. read more

I went to Bea last night with a couple friends. I haven't been through in a while. Always amazing food and amazing drinks. I'm a huge fan of sitting at the bar because you get the best service and often a free shot. Ty did not let us down. I had a coco fashione (drink) which was scrumptious, and then I had the herb roasted chicken along with the tuna tartare and the house ricotta with honey. Everything was fire. read more

I came to Bea for a happy hour with a friend. This was a hidden gem which naturally I found via Yelp . Upon entering it was low key but within an hour lively and bustling with energy ( a tad noisy but in a jovial manner ). We Initially we were only ordering drinks but as the night progressed , food became a topic of conversation. Firstly , let's address the cocktails . The bartenders are super friendly and were quick busy as well . I ordered my cocktail and it was stellar as the name escapes me . For grub we ordered the kale salad accompanied by the meatballs - both were excellent ! In sum , great venue for drinks and dinner or just a quick snack . Cool place !! read more
I've come here a couple times, the latest being one night in May after watching the wonderful play All of Me with Kyra Sedgwick. It was late and luckily Bea was nearby & open. The interior was very dimly lit & I made my way to the bar to order takeout. The bartender was friendly but had to tell me they didn't have the Chilean seabass which was disappointing. Instead I ordered the "green pasta" (spinach tagliatelle with shrimp in a creamy sauce) and the baby scallops with asparagus. The baby scallops weren't bad (though didn't look very appetizing when I opened the container) but probably wouldn't order again. The green pasta was very tasty. The place is definitely an option if I'm in the area & seeking sustenance! read more

We ordered the green pasta, the manicotti, the sea bass, the spicy lamb meatballs, and the pear salad. Overall, this meal was very good and pretty filling. The portions could have been bigger, however. The restaurant is dimly lit and has movies playing on the wall. It gives a lively vibe. Here's an equation that's simple to solve: Charming atmosphere+friendly service (huge shout out to Adina)+delicious food = great experience. It was our first time trying Bea for brunch (my friend's pick) today and we walked away giving it two thumbs up. Located on 43rd Street almost near 10th Avenue, the ambience was just too cute. My friend already arrived and was sat in the atrium section near a lucky tree. I liked everything about Bea as soon as I walked in. I made a secret wish as I touched the lucky tree. We kicked things off with a Mimosa and browsed the menu. Full disclosure after the fact--there's the option to order a 3 course pre fixe brunch or a la carte. There's a difference between both. My friend's selection was the Quiche while mine was the Avocado Toast ( with a request for poached eggs). The a la carte portions were smaller than a typical brunch entree and according to the server, they're meant to accompany the sides offered in the $28 pre-fixe. My portion was just right while the Quiche was smaller. If you're going in hungry, do the pre-fixe. The Avocado Toast was delicious. Served with a tiny side salad, it was 2 slices of bread each topped with a poached egg. My friend also enjoyed her quiche. The Mimosa on the other hand, was more OJ than champagne and too warm. Our next drink was the Sparkling Rose--crisp, cold and dry served in a Coupe glass. Jackpot selection. We thought we were done eating when the lovely manager, Adina, delighted us with one of my favorite desserts--Panna Cotta. We shared it and agreed it was such a nice gesture. I will definitely return to Bea and eager to try their dinner. A sweet gem on 43rd Street. Recommend! read more
Went here for my wife's birthday. Did a search in the app for lamb chops. Most steakhouses have lamb chops, but the prices are usually pretty high and I prefer more choice in the menu. We made an early reservation so that we could make our 8PM show at the Belasco. We started with drinks. My wife got wine and I tried the Highline Highball. Interesting drink and they weren't stingy with the alcohol. For appetizers, my wife got the tomato soup and I got the pork dumplings. Both items were delicious. My wife got the marinated lamb chops and I got Tommy's Pie. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and the shepherd's pie was very tasty. Fair warning to anyone getting the pie...it is really hot, temperature-wise. We will return next time we are in Hell's Kitchen. read more

First, not many New York restaurants can accommodate a larger group but Bea was great about seating us quickly. We had a reservation which I highly recommend. Our server was fantastic. The whipped ricotta was good. And the green pasta was good as well. Not huge portions but big enough to satisfy you. The restaurant is GORGEOUS. 100% would recommend read more
This place is so cute!! I came here for weekend brunch with a friend and we had a wonderful experience. Not only is the restaurant absolutely adorable, the service is TOP NOTCH and the food is also delicious. Adina (the host/hospitality manager) really knows how to treat customers right. I had made a reservation and, when I got to Bea, noticed the beautiful atrium beckoning to me. However, she sat me in the main restaurant area in front of the bar. I asked if she had any spots in the atrium and she went to check because she was expecting a large party. When she came back she asked if we were celebrating anything. I said a belated birthday and she said great, because she was going to give us the table right next to the lucky tree in the atrium (a very cute, very special spot!). It may seem like a small thing but I was grateful that she actually took an extra step to accommodate my request. The server was also very helpful with all of our questions about the menu. After we paid the check Adina brought out a little surprise birthday dessert, a light and airy panna cotta with strawberry sauce. For brunch I ordered the quiche (which came with a side salad), a mimosa and a rose. My only critique (which the server warned us about anyway) was that the Brunch Main Events were a little bit light (but on the flip side, if you aren't that hungry, it's nice to have lighter fare options). If you want a filling meal, make sure to do the Pre Fixe Brunch menu which offers an appetizer, a side, and an entree (Main Event) for $28. You can also add on bottomless drinks for 1.5 hrs for an additional $30 (which makes sense if you order 3 cocktails at $13 a pop). We stopped in for an early dinner on a Monday night. We started with the ricotta cheese, which was very good. I could have used more of the baguette, as my cheese spreading was sparser than the toasted french bageutte. Next, we had the tomato soup which was excellent. And, we finished with the Chilean Sea Bass. The Sea Bass was cooked perfectly over grilled Brussel sprouts and corn. Yummy. I had an excellent Brooklyn craft beer to go with the fish. The atmosphere is super cute bistro. We ate in the area styled like an outdoor space. Red tile floor, painted brick walls, street signs all added to the ambiance. The theme is entertainment (?) with posters and album covers and pictures on the walls. There is a bar area in another room. read more

I have had this place bookmarked for a while, and I was finally able to go this trip. Food: We ordered drinks, a cheese plate, ricotta (more cheese), and a pasta. The cheese plate was good and had great portions. The ricotta had honey and was phenomenal. The pasta was cooked to perfection and had a great taste. Service: They were welcoming and helpful as soon as we walked in from the rain. I had made a reservation. The restaurant was only partially busy, but it definitely picked up as we were ordering and eating. Our service was great, and everything was brought out timely. Ambiance: We went on a Saturday night before catching a show at a theater. They play different movies on different walls. We got lucky, and they were playing Ferris Bueller. :D Overall: I would visit again and would recommend! read more

Lots of potential as long as all dishes are cooked right Came here during the Canadian wildfire air quality alert the second time because it had indoors Service was very, very slow. Food was relativity good. We were pleasantly surprised to have been seated immediately on a busy Thursday night. The restaurant was busy but the server continuously remained attentive and engaging throughout our dine in. The atmosphere, although more on the louder side, was casual but because of the dark lighting, it also gave a romantic vibe. As for the food, we ordered the the tuna tartare (very fresh, good chip to tuna tartare ratio), baby scallops (loved this), and the English muffin burger (simple but tasty). read more

A couple of friends and I visited Bea for a late dinner and drinks on the eve of my birthday last week. I searched Yelp for something close to our hotel, as we had just gotten into the city from the airport after very long travels. Bea seemed to have decent food and promising drinks, so I chose to celebrate my birthday eve there, and I am so glad I did! When we got there, we were offered a table, but we opted for the bar. Christina, the person assisting us and making our drinks was amazing! She was super friendly and made great conversation with us. We were pretty tired, but she made sure we had a great time and made our first night in New York very memorable! We ordered a couple of pizzas and the Mac 'n' Cheese, and all were delicious! I ordered the Coco Fashioned, while my friends ordered a couple of other cocktails (don't remember what they were), and we all loved our beverages! Christina also made us some shots in celebration of my birthday, and we thought that was an amazing touch! I wish Bea was in Los Angeles because I could definitely see myself adding this amazing restaurant to my list of frequent places I visit! read more

We were so surprised to be able to get a last minute table for 3 at around 5pm, when ever other time I've been there a reservation was required. All the food ordered was delicious and service was efficient enough for us to order dessert which we appreciated as we had a show at 7pm. However, I found most of the items to be over sauced or garnished a bit more than last time I was there. The gnocchi was pillowy soft but kinda overcome by the sauce. The best of the desserts was the pannacotta which was silky smooth in texture and had flavor which alot don't. read more

Came after a broadway show. Cute spot. If you are a foodie definitely bring a light bc the atmosphere is very dark. They play these old time movies which was cute. Their had cut fries were the best thing I had. The ricotta was ok. Kinda tasteless even with honey. If you don't take anything away from this DO NOT get the roasted chicken. Absolutely flavorless and the creamy mushrooms came straight from a can. For $38 this small flavorless dish is not worth it. Try literally anything else. The server seemed a bit annoyed. It was a busy night so I get it. I just think don't come to the table if you are not ready for questions or to be attentive. read more
Came here for brunch with some friends I haven't seen in awhile. We loved that they had a prefix brunch menu: included an app, a side and an entree. The entire meal was good but their House Ricotta was out of this world. It was so light and fluffy, came with this rosemary honey and was served with grilled sourdough. Yes, absolutely! If your table is ready early you may be seated at the table otherwise we have a large bar where we offer the full menu as well, if you want to start with some apps there while you wait for your table.

The correct pronunciation is Bee-ah (with a hard "E", then a soft "A"). Short for Beatrice.

Yes, Bea has gluten-free options. They are the usual suspects: eggs, bacon, salads. Don't recall any breads or pastas, but I've never left hungry!

I don't remember music, but they have videos playing throughout the restaurant projected on various walls. No sound on the videos.

For us, one appetizer plus two entrees and a couple of drinks cost about $100. That's with a tip. Make reservations if you can. A fun place.
Is this place kid friendly? For 14, 10 and 7 year olds.
I probably wouldn't take kids. It has more of a date night/friends night out vibe.
Did Bea end the AYCE brunch option?
Kind of. They have a pre-fixe option and an option for unlimited cocktails for 1.5 hours. But when we went we felt like they were trying desparately to turn over tables quicker. They didn't even ask if we wanted another drink.
