This is one of the worst experiences in hotel service I have ever encountered. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SPEND YOUR MONEY ANYWHERE ELSE. I booked 4 nights at BE Tulum as part of my honeymoon when Covid cases were on a decline. However, taking into consideration that cases could rise again by December when we were scheduled to be there, we called the hotel and specifically asked if we could receive a credit if we had to cancel due to covid related reasons. The person working at the hotel replied by saying "absolutely, of course we would give you a credit" and assured us that there was nothing to worry about. As COVID cases have risen in the U.S., we recently became under a mandatory stay at home order in LA county, restricting non essential travel with a week before we were scheduled to leave for Mexico. When we contacted the hotel via email (because its impossible to get anyone on the phone there) they told us that they weren't responsible if we could not travel, and they weren't going to issue us a credit to visit at a later time. They said they would consider us a no show and we would lose out of the nearly $3,500 that we paid up front, even though we are legally not allowed to travel there. I am infuriated and disgusted at the willingness of this hotel to mislead, take advantage of people and screw people out of their money under a circumstance like this. **WARNING**IN-HOUSE BURGLARY OCCURRED DURING STAY** My husband & I got married in Mexico in May & stayed at Be Tulum for our honeymoon. We were there 5/6/19- 5/10/19 (4 nights/4 full days). We stayed in Room 21, which is a ground floor suite where the front door to the room has three large floor to ceiling glass sliding doors (see picture). The doors are "accordion-style" in that you unlock the door on the far left & slide them all to the right to get in. Each door is on its own separate track on the floor & ceiling. The entire trip I was very vigilant about locking the doors, especially since our room was so close to the lobby & on the main path to the beach. We are 100% positive our door was always locked when we were not in the room. Around 2pm on our last day, my husband walked back to our room to get some cash to tip our waiter. When he got back to the room, he unlocked the door, but noticed that there was a space between two of the sliding doors. He then went to grab his wallet & all his cash was GONE (~$160 USD)! My husband found his money clip wide open & his credit cards strewn all over the coffee table. He called me & I came running back to the room. I immediately went to the front desk & advised them of the situation. Alejandra, our concierge, immediately came to the room. She called the head of security, who arrived at our room within minutes. They examined the door & confirmed that someone had broken in. There were indent marks on the wood part of the door clearly showing how someone used a CROW BAR or some other tool to PRY the middle sliding door off its track. You could now enter the room between the first & second door even if the door was locked!! They CONFIRMED that this is how it happened. They also confirmed that this could not be done without a tool. *IMPORTANT*They advised that every single employee of Be Tulum is searched prior to & after work & are checked for jewelry/valuables (this was somewhat alarming). At the time of the break-in, I had very expensive watches/diamond earrings sitting next to the sink in the bathroom & my husband's iPad was on the bedside table. The watches, earrings, & iPad were still there, which lead us all to think that this break-in was unfortunately performed by an employee. They can get away with cash upon leaving work. We were disturbed that this could have happened at such an expensive hotel. The only silver lining is that it was our last day & we had gone through most of our cash. However, it was TERRIFYING to think that I could've been in the shower (which you can't see from the front door) when an employee pried open our room doors. We really lost our peace of mind & it was a huge damper on the last day of our honeymoon. Alejandra offered us a bottle of wine, which we accepted. They offered to have a security guard stand outside of our room for the rest of the stay. We were all in agreement that the burglar was likely an employee, so unfortunately an employee security guard didn't provide too much comfort. We declined that. Including our room (~$860 USD/night) and beach tab, we were spending well over $1000/day to stay at this hotel. When we went to check out, we were told that we could speak to the manager. My husband said he wanted something reasonable, like one night comped. That apparently was not an option. The manager then criticized us for not using the in-room safe. They said they would comp our beach tab from the day of the incident, which was nice, but not nearly even close to the value of the loss of peace of mind we had on the last day of our honeymoon. We said we would accept them comping our last day beach tab, but that we did not think that was adequate for what we had gone through. He said we could email HIS manager, which we did once we got back to the US. My husband emailed him on 5/13 & again on 5/15 & has called 4 times. He has yet to receive a response. The kicker is that they tried to have us sign a release saying that the comped beach tab amounted to full & final satisfaction of our loss! As an attorney, I literally laughed & said we absolutely were not signing this. It was a very unfortunate ending to a wonderful stay. Other than that incident, I have no complaints. The room was fabulous. The hotel also knew it was our honeymoon so we arrived to a bottle of champagne & a dessert, which was very lovely. The beach was great, but has a seaweed issue. This was a dream trip OTHER THAN THE INCIDENT. Had we have been treated better, my view on it all would likely be different. It just seemed that since we weren't "influencers," our opinion did not matter. As such, I felt this review was necessary. Will we be back? Maybe. The entire situation just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. It is such a shame. Had the manager even responded to my husband's emails/calls, I'd say we would go back. My husband got us a beautiful room here for 5 days to celebrate our honeymoon. The room was incredible, and I had all intentions of leaving a good review- but upon checking out the weirdest thing happened. When settling up our incidentals we noticed a $750 USD "cargo" charge. We were informed that we were being charged to launder our towels and sheets because they had "red paint" on them. We asked to see what they were talking about and the young man at the desk goes around the corner and pulls out 2 bags of 3 day old wet soiled laundry. He begins pulling out our soiled laundry at the front desk of this 5 star hotel. I was MORTIFIED. It ends up being makeup and WASHABLE hair dye from my previously colored hair, but I shutter to think what a woman on her period might have to go through. Even creepier to me is that someone went through our laundry to find "stains". INSANE that after what it costs to stay in this hotel, they can not afford bleach for their white towels. Disgusting that they held on to DIRTY wet linens in a bag in the Caribbean heat to prove some sort of point. My husband travels the world for work and stays in hotels around the world year round and NEVER have we ever had something like this happen. $750 for two towels and some sheets!? read more

I'm a fan but there is room for improvement. This place has all the makings of a truly magical experience and yet... there are some big fails. The site is absolutely gorgeous but, like someone else below said, all of Tulum is gorgeous. Encountering problems upon check-in is the worst sin a hotel can commit in my book. We had booked the rooftop pool room almost a year in advance. When I booked it on the hotel website there were two rooftop pool rooms available (there only are 2 rooftop pool rooms). I was fully aware that one room was beachfront and the other one wasn't. Since there were 2 available, wouldn't I get the beachfront one when I arrived because I booked it first? Apparently not. Someone else got there before us. Booking it first didn't matter. They tried to claim that the other person booked it before me but I was able to prove that wasn't true. At these prices they shouldn't be "debating" anything with me anyway. Ok, so now we're here. It's Saturday afternoon. Let's change and hit that fabulous beach/lounge place! ....OH - there's nowhere to sit. Not only that, most of these people are not hotel guests. It's early Saturday afternoon, and I'm paying for the most expensive room in the house and there's nowhere for us to sit at the hotel beach. Colossal fail there. So we had to get somebody again. Make ourselves known. We were stuck out in the sun just off the property... None of that was conducive to having a good time. If the hotel knows people are checking in they should hold a couple seats on the beach for those hotel guests. You can be sure those guests will probably want to sit on the beach. Listen up BeTulum: This should never happen to your guests! The concierge at our first hotel in Maroma had actually called BeTulum when we left that morning to tell them - in spanish - that we would be there within an hour or so, so there is no way that they didn't know we were coming. The crowd thinned out around dinner time on Saturday, and on our 2nd or 3rd day when the other people in the beachfront pooltop room checked out we were able to get in to the beachfront pooltop room (which was awfully nice, I have to say) but we felt very much on our own. It was tricky getting ice for the room, extra hangers, things like that. The level of service wasn't there for the prices. I've been a few places so I'm not quite as "in awe" of this place as they expect you to be.... (for example, see the Maia hotel on Mahe, Seychelles Islands to see what one of these places can really be) When we got home we kidded that you go to Ikea, buy a door and sand half the paint off, and prop it on decorative bricks as a table, add mismatched wicker chairs, then paint some coffee cans, punch holes in them and hang from the trees as lights, place a series of different sized and colored bottles in the sand and fill with different beach grasses and flowers, surround with cheeky little inspirational sayings misspelled and posted on chalkboards and VOILA! ---- you've got BeTulum shabby chic! Its a unique style. The resort is gorgeous, no doubt about it. The way the architecture is sited - rather than plunk a big building in the center of the narrow property, there are sandy meandering jungle-y paths through the middle of the property between a series of small natural looking buildings on the sides - is absolutely brilliant. You "discover" the property as you walk through it. The ground floor pools looked so pretty and sexy, shielded by jungle brush along the trails, but they were always in the shade, and I'm guessing probably cold. The glass swimming pools, the waterfall, the beachy wood and glass style of the rooms and the "Americano" gringo especial breakfast on the beach are the stuff of lifelong memories. There was a little attitude in the beach service every day but the stunning beach, the baby turtles hatching, the beach beds, the diving birds, and the serenity made up for it. The Tulum area is absolutely amazing -like a private boutique beach town - and I would definitely come back but I would definitely check out another hotel next time. read more

Well, we must have chosen the worst week to go there. It was very windy and it rained a quite a bit. Overall we didn´t mind very much since we really needed the vacation. We went there for 5 days and got an Arena Room (I think it´s one of the most basic rooms). The room was basic but we didn´t need much more. It had an outdoor shower which we used everyday. It was fun. The bed was big and comfortable. The pool in our room was pretty dark and not very appealing since our room was at floor level and we had a deck over our pool. The food and drinks were FANTASTIC!! I have to say that this was the best part of the hotel to us. We ate there almost every meal. Breakfast, lunches, dinners, drinks, drinks and more drinks. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Their seafood choices were wide and the ceviches were absolutely delicious. We ventured out a couple of times to eat and it was always a disappointment. They only use woodfire ovens and stove to cook all the meals. the flavors are just sinful. The service. This is a bit tricky because my wife and I agreed on something (yeah, I KNOW! Crazy). We felt like the service was not as good as one would expect from a place like that. Not sure if it is cultural or what but we never really connected with any of the waiters (yes, we always tipped generously). It was pretty slow (even for one that is on vacation in Mexico and should not be in a rush). However, we did connect with the restaurant manager who definitely knows how to treat and engage customers. He was very nice and even invited us to a deliciously home made pizza. I will go back because the overall experience was amazing but I´m afraid that if service doesn´t improve we may not like it as much the second time around since we will not be in awe. read more

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend, beautiful place, our room was amazing, totally instagram worthy and the day beds are great. Only down side was the service! It was notoriously slow. The waiters had a "lazy minded" thinking. I'm used to excellent service while in Mexico but this place lacks it, both on the beach and the restaurant. No common sense on part of the waiters when it came to providing excellent service. Very disappointed. I feel like since the gratuity is included they have a "i don't care" attitude. The rooms are beautiful and stylish - lots of stone and wood - with super comfortable beds and chic design. The hotel is right on the beach with tons of palm trees, comfy beach beds and canopies, and a few pools. The restaurant is right on the beach as well and serves great food. Hotel staff is attentive and eager to please. Overall, a wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back! read more

Recently my fiancé booked a surprise trip for us to Tulum, where we ended up getting engaged. We stayed at Be Tulum, and while it is indeed beautiful the hospitality was honestly the worst I've ever experienced in all my years of global travel. Seriously, La Quinta is more hospitable than this place. The first night, our concierge came to inform us that the valet had parked our rental car under a coconut tree and a coconut feel from the tree straight through the back window. Their response to us was that they would climb up the tree and cut the rest of the coconuts down to ensure this didn't happen again, but never offered to do anything about our car. Meanwhile, glass was all over our car and the car was exposed to the rain storm that was going to last the next 24 hours. We understand things happen so we just kindly asked that they clean up all the glass in the car and cover the back window so it doesn't get soaked. After we asked, they agreed that they would take care of that. The rest of our trip went ok. Although, we always waited a minimum of ten minutes before a waiter would even notice us and typically we had to approach them and ask for a menu or to place an order. Also, our concierge never booked the dinner we asked him to book two nights in a row. But the food and drinks were good. The pool was lovely. The beach was delightful. On the last morning we had to leave early to head back to Cancun to catch our flight. We made the hotel aware of the time we were leaving the night before. Upon getting out to our car we found it to still be a dreadful mess full of glass. In addition, they covered our back window with a black tarp so we couldn't see anything. They also didn't secure off the opening so our truck was full of water. See attached pictures. The hotel refused to take responsibility and never offered us any compensation for the damages to our car that they parked and then irresponsibly didn't clean up and cover. We ended up having to pay the rental company out of our pocket for their mess. Unfortunately, the level of hospitality at Be Tulum didn't even get close to matching the aesthetic or the prices. We're very disappointed with how we were treated considering it was supposed to be such a special time for us. read more

Beautiful grounds in the jungle, lovely room and beach. However, we took the complimentary beach cruisers out for the day to explore the town. My husbands bike was in bad condition, as we rode his bikes chain came off the bikes grid and it made him crash, having several injuries to his arms, knee, toes and chest. Luckily he crashed into the side of the bike path and not on the concrete. My bike had no kick stand and was hard to keep up during stops. We get back to the hotel with my husband in dirt and blood and all the staff said was they will fix the bike and we should go to the Farmacia down the street for bandaids. The lack of responsibility and any kind of service to help my husbands situation was incredibly disappointing. They do not go the extra mile to help guests as they try to keep a "no liability" on many things when it comes to situations that "may happen" during your stay. It wasn't fun for him to try to enjoy the rest of the stay with bandages, scrapes, and scabs on his body due to the lack of simple bike checks. We are lucky because his injuries could have been much worse. read more

The beach is magical and the water is amazingly blue. There is a nice pool which is a literal small and cold but very refreshing. This place is not only beautiful, incredibly designed, and in a wonderful location, but the staff is incredible, especially the manager Daniel Riviera. We had a family emergency while we were there and he was understanding and went above and beyond to help us along with the other staff. This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The rooms have been decorated and styled with a precise attention to detail. The grounds are breathtaking. The beaches out front of the hotel are manicured and swept daily to remove the seaweed. I will come back and stay here again. There is room for improvement in the food options here and the Yäan Wellness Center, where I spent over $650 on 2 massages. After venturing out to some of the other hotels (Sanara for instance) to try their breakfasts I quickly became disenchanted with some of the food at Be Tulum. The newer restaurant, OcuMare, is excellent. The other one that starts with an M leaves a lot to be desired. On recommendation from our server we ordered the short ribs. They were so tough we couldn't cut the meat with a knife and had to send it back. We sat at this meal for over 2 hours as service was currently slow despite the fact that there were several people working and only a few people eating. Not the end of the world, but towards the end of our week at Be Tulum I was definitely ready to eat my meals off-site. Another area they could improve on is hiring a better staff to do the massages at Yäan. For a 90-minute massage that costs $300 before tip I was expecting something good. It was probably my fault for signing up for a second massage with a different therapist, but that ended up actually being a worse experience than the first one. We went to the Mayan Clay massage place down the street one day and paid half the price ($150) for a much better massage. read more

I'm sure this place is nice but certainly, it's not worth the rude and inexcusable service. A friend from NYC recommended this beach so we called in advance (as well as the morning of) and were told that we were welcome to come for the day (with a minimum amount of spending which was of no concern). We eagerly commuted one hour from Playa de Carmen but as soon as we got there, we were told that we were no longer welcome. We were left wondering if we did not "look" like their desired client/customer base and questioned why Raul, who answered the phone then the door, admittedly denied speaking to us then rudely told us to take a hike. We were admittedly upset and inquired further as to why they would convince us to commute then deny us of service upon arrival. We then had the pleasure of speaking with the manager, Ana, who would not take any ownership for our troubles and in fact said, "I'll say sorry if it'll make you feel better." It was such a rude and disrespectful experience. There are so many beautiful places in Tulum (that in fact share the same beach). Don't waste your time on this one. We actually got into a better spot nearby and swam over to the Be Tulum area to see that they were in fact not full as they had claimed. I'm not sure why they treated us like this but it felt awful. With that said, there were so many other places in Tulum that treated us with kindness and respect. In short, choose wisely. read more

I travel for a living and have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and I've never been treated in this manner. Booked a non refundable reservation which basically means I could not cancel reservation but hotel could at any time. Booked hotel 2 months before my stay and got a great rate. 3 weeks before my stay they sent an email saying they were sorry for late email and that I needed to pay for reservation. Was a little confused on this since I gave them a credit card when I reserved room. I emailed back saying I would call to straighten out when I returned from business trip but he went ahead and cancelled anyway. I called hotel 4 times and they actually answered twice, although my contact was at lunch both times and refused to call me back. Lunch here must be fantastic as that is where the front desk staff always seems to be.when you call. I do believe they were getting to full capacity and bumped me since my rate was low. Extremely poor and non professional staff, can only imagine what check in at this place would be like. read more

When me and my boyfriend were there they had a movie on the beach, so romantic and so cool! The ambience and vibe are amazing as written about below. Yoga in the morning is definitely worth while. They have paddle boards and bicycles you can use at any time for no extra charge. The downside is you get charged for everything else- water bottles are expensive (and your room only comes with 2 per day), morning yoga is around $25 per person per day, etc. It all starts to add up by the end of your stay. Customer service is OK, not great. When we checked in we were told we were "upgraded", and got to our new room which actually seemed like more of a downgrade as it didn't have the outdoor plunge pool. After seeing the room, we asked to switch back to the room we had booked, and they told us it was unavailable. read more

One nuisance stood out last time that just bothered me not for financial reasons, but as a matter of principle. They have "espresso" in their menue advertised for 90 pesos. The menue doesn't make a differtiation between single or double shot. The going rate for "double shot" espresso is top 50 pesos anywhere else in Tulum, but I don't have a problem with their 90 pesos price. We ordered two espressos, bunch of things to eat and few glasses of vino. My waiter, skinny tall guy with goatee 1st pushed me to pay the bill because his shift was changing & I understood he wanted his tip. No problem, I paid the bill with an additional generous tip on top of their automatic tip included in the check. Few minutes later he comes back telling me that he made a mistake for not charging me for 4 espressos (4 x 90 pesos) because my wife & I asked for double shot espressos each as we always do... Now the menue just shows 90 pesos for espresso & what we received was normal espresso in a small ceramic espresso cup. The waiter insisted that by asking for double shot espresso for 2 people, I essentially have to pay 4 × 90 pessos which is absurd to say the least. With at said double shot espresso costs the same asth a nice glass of dry rose they have for 180 pessos. I paid the guy additional 100 pesos just to get him of my back as it wasn't worth my time arguing with him at that moment. This issue bothered me as a matter of principle more than anything else. If the Management intendeds to charge $180 pesos for double shot espresso they need to put that on the menue to prevent the guest from feeling that the waiter pulled a quick one! As far as I'm concerned one double shot espresso is NOT the same as ordering two separate single shots of espressos anywhere else. read more
