First and last time coming here. Good looked good was excited to try something new. The plates were pricey however I still wanted to try. Cute little spot offered inside and outside dinning. My mom and I got the two meat combo with a soda total 68 dollars. Service was fast and the plates brought to my table. Excited to dig in but the ribs chicken and beans were cold. Only thing warm was the garlic bread. I asked the staff to reheat the food because it was cold and they agreed. Absolutely loved this place. Little hint, get as much spicy barbecue sauce as you can! I should have taken a picture of the food, that was my bad, but i got the Ragin Bull bbq sandwich which was a really big sandwich. Wife went with the half rack of pork ribs, which she stated were actually kiiiind of dry, & that's mainly the reason why i can't give more stars. We have tried many ribs in our food journey, some are really really good, fall off the bone, juicy, saucy & salivating. These ribs were not that, they were decent at best. But for a BBQ place, you gotta have amazing ribs. We did take the rib tips to go, which were better, & i was a big fan of the mac & cheese. They weren't too cheesy, which is why i think that i liked them because the cheese was very subtle, it wasn't overbearing. Wife was not a big fan of the coleslaw or the cornbread either. The cornbread sadly is actually very dry as well, not as good as other barbecue spots. My sandwich was amazing, & the mac & cheese was a 7/10 stars. I loved the outdoorsy vibes & the service was outstanding. The cashier was extremely friendly & they even had servers to bring us our food out where we were sitting. I had high hopes for this place, as i've heard many roaring reviews, but unfortunately the next time we are in the mood for BBQ we will have to try a new spot. I know that sometimes some people have different experiences in taste & maybe the cook had an off day, so if you get the chance i still think that you should definitely try this spot. We had an event for 20-25 people on the weekend and for the first time, decided to have it catered. I am so glad that we picked BBQ152! I spoke with both James and Stormy who guided me through the best choices for my event. They were both very easy to work with and offered suggestions that would work for me. The food arrived a little earlier than expected, which was great. The meats were steamy hot and the delivery man told me how to keep it warm in the oven until needed. He was friendly and very helpful. My guests loved everything! As did I. It was so wonderful not to have to worry about any of the food for our party, letting me enjoy the event and spend time with my friends rather than in the kitchen. And there was so much food! Pulled pork, brisket, (BBQ Sauces included) coleslaw, potato salad, garlic bread, and their Berry Blue salad. The utensils I needed were provided as well. It was all excellent. Overall, the food was okay and satisfied our BBQ craving. It was on the pricier side for sure compared to other great BBQ places we've eaten at; the chicken was a bit dry, the beef was a bit burnt, but the ribs were fantastic! The mac n cheese was good but a bit thin/runny. Cole slaw and garlic bread were also fantastic. Not a fan of the corn bread -- it was a bit on the more gelatinous side. I came here after a long, long day spent at Gilroy Gardens. Which seems a bit of a theme here. Anyway, California is obviously not known for BBQ, so anyone with real experience in Texas/Tennessee/The Carolinas/Missouri may disagree. But BBQ 152 is as good BBQ as I've ever had. We ordered a tri-tip plate with beans and cole slaw, a hot dog with mac and cheese, a brisket plate with mac and cheese and cole slaw. After eating that, we then ordered a regular "gaucho" sandwich with mac and cheese, a 1/2 pound of brisket, a 1/2 pound of pulled pork, and 2 orders of bread pudding. It was ~170 with tax/tip and yes it was too much. But everything was just so good. None of my dining companions had ever had Central Texas-style barbecue, and they loved it. The smokiness, the tender meat that nearly falls apart, the textural contrast of bark/smoke ring/center. I've never been to Texas so I can't calibrate this against the best of the best, but it's hard to see how it could be better. Anyway, the brisket here was undeniably the star of the show. Everyone loved it and couldn't get enough of it. I liked the tri-tip too, but let's be real, it's overshadowed by brisket. We were 1/2 done with the brisket before we even noticed there's BBQ sauce available, because seriously it's delicious on it's own. Also, I respect that they only have BBQ sauce and spicy BBQ sauce. I like when restaurants have that attitude of "you'll take what you're given and you'll like it", too many sauces seems like a lack of confidence. The mac and cheese is also fantastic, properly gooey so you get a nice cheese pull, great cheesy flavor, very thick and rich. Everyone was a fan. The beans were fine. I'd probably skip them though. The coleslaw is made with mayonnaise, which is a style that many people who aren't me enjoy. I prefer the vinegar style. Now, for mayo-style, this was fine. But it's not to my taste. For our second round, aside from more brisket, the gaucho sandwich was just over the top indulgent. I think it's served on garlic bread, with melted cheese and onions on top of brisket. You need some BBQ sauce, just a tiny bit, on each bite to eat this because it is insanely rich. It's delicious of course and had tons of brisket inside, but it needs something sweet/acidic to balance the fattiness. The pulled pork was also fantastic - very tender and the vinegar sauce was just right. Like a thin, seasoned apple cider vinegar, it just helped cut the richness and added a flavor dimension, it didn't overpower the meat. The bread pudding was a bit crispier than I'm used to, but after drenching it in the provided sauce it softened a bit and tasted great. Bread pudding, which is like chopped up French toast, is pretty much always good. I do wish I had tried the cobbler, but that'll have to wait for next time. Overall this place was amazing, and sitting outside on a warm summer day enjoying some of their great draught beer selection was a wonderful end to a long day. The staff is all nice and friendly (even the cashier who mistakenly told me the first round would be enough food), it's clean, there's plenty of parking in the attached lot, they take credit cards. Really, the only thing to note is that it isn't cheap. But then again you're eating high quality meat, and pretty much only meat. So it's not like you're paying for a side of steamed broccoli. If you're anywhere around Gilroy you should definitely visit this place. read more

This establishment, without a doubt the most delicious, exceptional quality BBQ I've EVER had locally. When I say "locally" I am referring to the entire Bay Area region. Over the years I've tried a few other well known places such as Trail Dust, Armadillo Willy's, Dickeys, etc. Although I haven't been to as many during the past few years due to perceived costs for most BBQ type places. Everyone knows that quality meats, and the effort required to prepare it can be quite costly. That said, prior to trying BBQ152 the first time, only Trail Dust in Morgan Hill was at the top of my BBQ list as far as quality was concerned. Unfortunately the cost of Trail Dust was a significant deterrent from making it a regular stop. Despite having driven past this place numerous times while I was in Gilroy, it never crossed my mind to stop and try it. About a month ago a friend of mine took me here, and that visit definitely made me take notice! I ordered the beef brisket, incl. sides of potato salad, and garlic bread. Choice of two BBQ sauces; original/spicy. The brisket comes cut sliced. Meat was exquisitely smoked, extremely tender and texture unlike I've seen before. I've had BBQ meat that's been slow-smoked for hours, but not quite this flavorful and superb. The brisket not only exceeded my expectations, but was without a doubt the most detectible BBQ I've EVER tried. Both the original and spicy versions of the BBQ sauce compliments the meat perfectly. I'd consider the spicy sauce not to be overly hot, but it's got the right amount of pepper and smoky flavor. The original is better if you're not too fond of spicy additions. I was told it takes over 24 hours to prepare and cure their meats in their outdoor smoker; anywhere from 16-18 hours. Meats prepared early each morning are typically not ready until the following day. They often sell out completely especially on the busier weekends and during events. Certainly above the quality of Trail Dust, and a league of it's own. I don't ever recall any place having BBQ beef brisket quite like I've tried here. I've since visited BBQ152 at least 3 more times since my initial visit. I've tried the beef brisket and tri tip sandwiches, and a couple sides. The baked beans, potato salad, and toasted garlic bread is also fantastic. Another pleasant surprise was that the cost of their menu is very reasonable given the superior quality of the meats. I'd expect them to be more expensive if it wasn't for the fact they're in Gilroy. Dined in their outdoor patio, and orders to-go. Preparation time is usually 10-15 min as they only seem to have a couple people working. I typically visit during the late morning, before lunch when it gets busier during the weekday. In summary, BBQ152 will be on my regular go-to places, even if it means driving all the way here and back for it! read more
