If you read my other reviews, you'll see I'm usually a pretty positive person. Not today. Service was OK. Typical diner ambiance, one step above a mess hall but with booths. Coffee was mediocre at best. Despite my request to make sure the French toast wasn't dry, it was the worst, most awful dry crap I've ever had. No amount of syrup could fix what was essentially two slabs of desert sand with a crust. My dining companion, on the other hand, enjoyed her vegetarian eggs Benedict. I paid $50 for a breakfast that was worth $20 max. Never going back. read more

Visited Sandy's Café today for the first time, located right next to the Motel 6 off Monterey. It's a nice little breakfast spot with a friendly, welcoming vibe. I ordered the steak and eggs with hash browns and sunny-side-up eggs. The steak was a bit fattier than I usually prefer, but overall the meal was good the hash browns were cooked just right. My kids got pancakes and eggs, and they really enjoyed them. My wife had the French toast, and she said they were delicious. What really stood out to me was the customer service everyone was super friendly, attentive, and great with kids. They were very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. They even brought over some tables games to keep the kids occupied. Overall, a solid breakfast spot with great service. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

My experience was awful! I arrived to Sandy's cafe in the morning and was greeting by a white blond lady. At first, she seemed sweet but as we began ordering her tone was extremely rude and was rushing us to order. When our food arrived she would slam it on the table to which our drinks would occasionally spill in the table. Every time we would order additional drinks or food, she had a smug expression and would roll her eyes (isn't that her job?). On top of the bad customer service, the food was horrible. Our food was evidently cooked with no passion, previous food stains on our plates, and had absolutely no flavor at all. The place looked dirty and had a weird scent to it (should've been our first red flag). We never complained about her behavior nor food but I hope people read the reviews before eating here. read more

Stopped in for some breakfast and a hot tea on my way from San Francisco to Paso Robles. Scrambled eggs, delicious hashbrowns perfect amount of butter to potato perfection. Clearly where all the locals come, met Sandy herself great spot for breakfast at a diner.!! read more

This spot feels like a hidden gem. There's a huge sign inside that says "enter as strangers, leave as friends" and it's reflective of the friendly and attentive service. The vibe was small-town feel, warm & inviting, but with big flavors. I ordered the country benedict which was savory and delicious. The sauce was well made and juicy, pairing nicely with the runny yolk. They certainly didn't skimp on the gravy either. We also ordered the short stack pancakes with strawberries and they were some of the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. They stayed fluffy even towards the end of our meal and we all fought for the last bite. Perfect tuck-in before a trip down to Point Lobos! read more

This has to be the poorest customer service skills by the owner, when I showed her the ketchup bottles with mold the coffee creamer with stains of salsa Very polite and quiet she denied it and begun to offend me in front of kids, I was speechless about her reaction I didn't answer back because I like to teach my kids about restaurant business which they like, I know she is under a lot of pressure by losing many customers but lady this is why. Lern to accept your mistakes and fix them no need for the poor language you use on me when you don't even know me, I forgive you, but know I will tell everyone I know about you. read more

Sandy's Cafe is not just a place to get your breakfast fix but has that small town feeling. The staff are very friendly and respectful and the place is nice and clean. The food portions are decent and very savory. I'm always there for my sweet tooth fix of their buttermilk pancake of waffles. But you can't go wrong with any of the orders on their menu. If you're short for time call your order in and you'll be in and out in no time. read more

We were going to go somewhere else. But thought. This place used to be good. We walked in the place was packed. We were seated in the back biggest booth. Served coffee. Soda. Then we wait. Finally order. Ok. This took so freaking long. My MIL said they must have had to go catch the chicken. Meanwhile. The table was sticky. I had to ask for a wet towel 3 times. Turns out. They don't clean in the middle where the condiments sit. It was disguising. And waited and waited. Finally the food came. And the hottest thing on my plate was a zucchini in my vegetable dish. My husband ordered a hamburger steak and eggs. It was nasty. I had chicken mashed potatoes and gravy. Gross. The chicken was moist. WET. It wasn't delicious as I had hoped. It didn't say they cover potatoes with that. My MIL had a hamburger. It was dry and she complained to us. I lost my appetite. It took forever for the sever to refill coffee. And get creamer. And soda. Well. It was the worst $80. Spent at any restaurant. The service was bad. The food was awful. And idk how the place was so packed. I wish we had gone to Black Bear. It would've been worth the wait. I will NEVER go back. Or recommend it. OD's Would've also been better. Lousy experience. Totally revolting. One Star. Becuz it was open. SO WHAT. read more

Food was just ok. We had to ask for refills on our coffees. One breakfast the eggs were cooked wrong and we brought it to the waiter attention and he had it fixed right away. Didn't get one of the orders of toast . Also I had half of my scramble left and a older lady came and cleaned the table and I let her know I wanted a to go box she just put my plate at the end of the table and walked away. I came into Sandy's Cafe on a Sunday morning expecting to have a wait, but was delighted when we were immediately greeted by their friendly staff and taken to a booth in the back area of the restaurant with a really cute view! I ordered the belgian waffle with apples with a side of eggs and sausage which was delicious. I came with my boyfriend who ordered the Reuben sandwich and was shocked at the quality of the food for the price. I also tried a few of his fries which were perfectly crispy and delicious! I'm so happy this place is right next to the hotel (2 min walking from the Hilton Garden Inn) because I always eat late so I couldn't make it to the lunch hours at the hotel. I loved that this Cafe has a lot of options! I wanted to get something healthier so I went for the cold tuna sandwich and salad on the side. As you can see in the picture I got the tuna melt instead + they also gave me fries. The order was wrong but the food was good. The sandwich wasn't quite healthy tho - it has a lot of butter on the bread. The staff was really nice and the order was ready in less than 10 mins! read more

In Gilroy and looking for breakfast? Sandy's is a solid choice. The "wall of service badges (firefighter, police, etc) speaks to the character of this local diner. My meal (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast) was nicely prepared and served with a friendly attitude. This is a neighborhood diner - not a chain. I saw how the servers area was set up, efficient and orderly.. I didn't wait long for anything I needed and the waitress offered me things I might need and didnt just wait for me to find out I missed something. I have worked in independent diners like this and I can see they care. 10:10 would dine here again. I got to witness the owner and her daughter being extremely rude, I was so appalled at what was going on. The degrading attitude and words of the owner and her daughter. Never again will I go to sandys and will make sure to let it be known the actions toward the Hispanic couple who got yelled at over a PARKING SPOT! She runs a great place as evidenced by her knowing most if the clients names as they walk in. Staff was great, happy and on point. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Great parking Waitresses that were on duty were absolutely amazing ! Super attentive, very welcoming upon entering and throughout our meal. I took my mother and son here while we were passing through Gilroy and decided to sit at the counter. Coffee was poured immediately halfway through us sitting down. Everyone had beautiful smiles all around, even the chef/cook in the back -that I could see through the serving window behind the counter. If I could give this a zero stars I would. We had a horrible experience. We got there with 5 people and a stroller, they offered a table but we said wouldn't fit us as it was a tight squeeze between our table and the others around with the stroller and the family next to us in a much bigger table overheard and said they were leaving and we could have their table. The waitress said ok perfect, she sent us to the front to clear out the table for us, as that happened a party of nine got there and the hostess gave them our table even though it was promised to us and we were there waiting first. We told the hostess this but she refused saying that they reserve that table for parties over 10 even though the family sitting there before us were 5. She said they could still accommodate us by giving us the table they originally offered us. I don't understand how that's accommodating if we got there first and the table was promised and being cleared for us. Hostess just shrugged us off. Great spot in gilroy for a breakfast. The ambiance definitely has that homey feeling! Service was great Haley was our server and she did an excellent job. Price is VERY affordable! Our food was a little cold when we got it and left us feeling like there was not enough taste to it. I got the Joe scramble and they gave me plenty of meat and eggs just not enough taste. My wife got the Pancakes with the blueberry preserve. She also got an order of eggs and bacon which was ok. The pancakes though is what brought me to 4 stars! Honestly some of the better pancakes I've had. Nice fluffy with a great chew. If you come here HIGHLY recommend getting pancakes you won't be disappointed! I would go here again 100% again pancakes are great and so are the prices as well as the ambiance and service. read more

French toast was Terrible! Don't know what kind of bread they used or if it was stale or whatever, but it was bad! I asked and the manager lady that was here said it was Texas toast from some bakery. Tastes nothing like any Texas toast Was very ever had or any French toast either. Only took one bite, but manager refused to credit me one dime for this yucky breakfast. My friend order biscuits and gravy with eggs over easy and said it was ok. Waiter was nice young man but cannot recommend at all because of the horrible French toast and the managers reply "don't know what to tell you" and refusing any credit or any other breakfast item as an option read more

Sandys has fallen a notch. I think it's due to a temporary shortage of servers. We were seated promptly and the server actually took our order before a large group next to us. Somehow my eggs and hashbrowns were cold while the meat was hot. Also the mens room was out of paper towels and almost out of t.p. The floor had not been cleaned in some time. Maybe hiring more help will fix these issues. I'll be back to check. read more

unsafe and terrible atmosphere for hispanic and brown people. staff only prioritizes white customers and will seat and serve them before you no matter how long you have been waiting. and also, they seat brown people in the back (while there are plenty of empty booths in the front) with rude looks and no check ins to see if everything is good, while white customers sit up front by the windows with sweet service and smiles. the modern day segregation is heartbreaking. im not sure why people still support this establishment? the food isn't good either. read more

Food is consistently good. Friendly service. Family atmosphere. Always busy, but never a problem with parking or long waits.

In addition to the huge statement which decorates the wall above and across the entire counter "ENTER AS STRANGERS LEAVE AS FRIENDS", is the consistency of food and service which Sandy's Cafe provides. We all probably know or for those of that don't know, if and when an owner is present (most especially in the restaurant industry), there is an extra special vibe due to their presence. They usually command simply by their example a higher work ethic and a slightly greater level of customer service. Sandy specifically is one of the most hard working sole proprietors whom I've ever witnessed. Some restaurant owners establish themselves and become like a celebrity and only meet and greet people. Sandy is the ultimate exception to the norm as she takes the time to meet and greet as many guests as possible, she busses and cleans as many tables as possible, and she refills as many drinks as possible therefore being of tremendous assistance to her wait staff while keeping her customers happy to be visiting her cafe in hopes of achieving her personal goal that you leave there as a friend. Sandy is a stellar example of what and how a local restaurant should be. So grateful to have crossed paths with Sandy at Sandy's Cafe years ago - right off of 101 at the Monterey exit!
