Went on a regular night and boy were they busy which I do take into account. But I will say our service was not excellent. But our poor server was definitely trying. They had a full house. First time coming here and I was surprised how good it was. From the moment we entered we felt welcomed. The food looked fresh and the atmosphere was great. We took pictures of the food below and although everything was great my grilled oysters weren't what I thought I was getting. Ambience was fun and capacity was good-- good enough amount of tables/chairs Husband and I shared a cup of chowder (i LOVE the high temp it was served-- I've had too many thick warm, barely hot chowder and I had to encourage my enjoyment of them), 1 piece of fish for my husband and we shared a trio of the fried: scallops, shrimp, and oysters. For a local seafood joint in Hollister, this place was a nice surprise. From the outside, it might scare off some people. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. There was construction in front with scaffolding and noise. Once seated, it was all about getting a good meal. I got the $22 blue crab sandwich. First bite was interesting. The jury is still out if bacon actually goes well with blue crab. While debating the issue in my head, I couldn't stop eating it. So there you go. read more

First Time -- Definitely Not the Last! We had our first meal at Catch 25 and were genuinely impressed! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The atmosphere is casual but nicely done -- perfect for a relaxed dinner out or a quick bite to go. We were seated right away, and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, offering great menu recommendations, zero pressure. We started with a bowl of clam chowder--it was so good! I love fish & chips, so I ordered the beer-battered fish & chips, and wow -- they were ASMR-worthy, for real. The batter was perfectly crunchy and stayed that way through the very last bite. It was delicious! The fries were crisp and satisfying, not an afterthought like at some places. My wife had the blue crab sandwich, served on a fresh, ciabatta-style bread that really complemented the crab flavor. The portions were generous -- we definitely didn't leave hungry! It's always hard to gauge a new restaurant with your first visit. The strip where it recently opened is under a lot of construction, and they're coming into a location that has struggled for many years. That being said, my first impressions were very good. I was greeted warmly at the door, and advised that they don't have to go menus yet, but they can do to go oders. Personally, I like the updated look to the place. It has a very casual dining vibe. The seating is plentiful and comfortable. I ordered a pair of crab cakes and a crab cake sandwich to try and get a feel for the food. I think that's probably where I made a mistake. The crab cakes have a LOT of filler. It's more like eating a crab loaf than a crab cake. I know everyone has their way they like to do it. Some fried, some grilled, etc. These are a cross between grilled and heavily breaded internally. The result is a very gummy crab cake, which was not pleasant to eat. That made me apprehensive to tackle the sandwich. I don't want to dwell entirely on the negative, here. This is two dishes made up of the same part. The bread on the sandwich was nice and tasted homemade, which is a huge plus. Unfortunately it's the same crab cake, and it tasted equally as gummy and filled. The sandwich itself was dry, which I was able to resolve with the generously provided extra tartar sauce, but the tomatoes were still green, which was a shame. The real winner here was the seasoned fries. I enjoyed those immensely with the tartar sauce, and ate nearly every one. While this may seem like a mostly negative review (it is for the crab cakes), I think this place is worth giving another try. I'm curious to give their chowder (I'm a chowder snob), fish and chips, and selection of grilled fishes (I'm from a fish heavy island family) a try. Just because it wasn't love at first bite doesn't mean we can't give this relationship a go. This town is desperate for something other than Mexican food or fast food. Giving a solid 5 star review because I like local businesses but it should be a solid 3 for the food, Friday seemed nice and busy which is excellent for a local restaurant. The staff is great and respectful, the decor is awesome and so nice inside. Great portion sizes, however I believe the dishes definitely need some refining, the cioppino didn't look appealing, it had some good flavor but the broth needs work, simmer your tomato sauce with white wine don't let it boil or it turns cloudy, then add the seafood in last, the chowder also needs work all I could taste is celery, and no smokiness from the Bacon, and to much white pepper, the linguine chicken Alfredo, good portion I'm still working finishing it. The sauce was not seasoned well, but just add your Parmesan cheese that will help thicken it up and give flavor, the rib eye steak unsually full of fat, it was supposed to cooked medium well, and it came medium rare, which my sister didn't mind, but it was to much fat for her. And I think you cook it either on the plancha or just in a pan. However this review is just a nice critique nothing bad. I'll definitely come again. Came in for lunch with my family and found our new go to spot! Fish taco appetizer was delicious, cheese bread was soft, warn and flavorful. Lobster roll was amazing, it was really full of meat and the flavor was excellent, meat was soft and the roll has a soft crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Catch 25 With my move to Hollister, I have been scouting out lunch spots in town and the surrounding area. Just as I am new to the town, Catch 25 has only been open for a few months. They occupy the end space of the strip mall between Ace Hardware and O'Reilly Auto Parts, a space that used to be an Italian restaurant. Catch 25 has renovated the plant and it now has a marine theme. Don't be fooled by the construction work that currently blocks parking directly in from the shop--they are open. Parking in front can be a bit of a hassle with McDonald's cars blocking access to vehicles. Service is friendly and prompt. When a mistake was made one time, they were quick to take the item off the check. So far, I have had their grilled fish and the deep-fried scallops and shrimp. They accommodate me by subbing cold slaw for rice or fries. Each day they have a special and prices are moderate. I was not impressed with the clam chowder since the clams seemed to be missing. The crab cakes are only OK. Other people I know rave about the fish and chips. I am anxious to take the grandkids, big fish eaters, to Catch 25 and see their reaction to the food. I've been there twice and on both occasions, the food is delicious. The seafood is fresh and it doesn't smell. In general, the restaurant is super clean and the fish n chips is just like when I was in London. It's not a heavy batter, but lightly bettered and totally crispy to a golden color. The French fries must be cooked in separate oil because they were delicious and not fishy, which is a great thing! The clam Chowder has lots of clams and medium thick, not watery, which is also a good thing. The service is awesome and. They are all attentive and friendly. There were 4 of us. We were seated promptly, our friends were there ahead of us. We ordered our drinks, appetizer were already ordered. We then placed our order for dinner. 3 of our orders came together, but the 4th dinner, we were told, would be at least 10 minutes later. This is unacceptable on any setting. We said the 4th dinner order was canceled. The waitress smiled and said ok. No apology, just a shrug and ok. She did run to tell the cook. So he wouldn't start the order! Needless to say, we won't be back. Just want to add, one of the orders was a the same as another order in our party only in large portion. But the good news is many of the orders to go seemed to have no problem being filled. I guess those who come in are the ones who get the poor service. read more
