I was pleasantly surprised at the fish and chips I ordered, beautifully flavored batter and wonderful crunch. Fresh juicy fish and batter covered French fries. Superb. Went for a early dinner with my wife, place was busy. Had the Salmon Teriyaki for the 1st time. Salmon was perfect . Vegetables a bit overdone. Like them crunchier..Teriyaki sauce wasnt overpowering. My wife had the grilled Mahi , Mahi with veggies and slaw.Excellent . Unfortunately the kitchen served their great fish tacos appetizer after the main course. Big error but we took it in stride. I was excited to eat here. We picked up our order. Was hoping that it would be similar to Phil's fish market in Moss Landing.... Something in our town that had fish and fish and chips. Food was good but it could have been less greasier. I know they are fairly new so they might have to work out a few things. read more

First time coming here and I was surprised how good it was. From the moment we entered we felt welcomed. The food looked fresh and the atmosphere was great. We took pictures of the food below and although everything was great my grilled oysters weren't what I thought I was getting. It wasn't a deal breaker at all just not what I was expecting as I thought it would come with the shell. Again still really good just served different. We were greeted with a friendly smile at the door. (This is HUGE in my book--welcoming a guest to your establishment is the cheapest and quickest ROI for any business!) The name, Catch 25!!? How clever and i love it. (I'll let y'all figure than one out.) First time here (we had already heard good things about this place!) And there was a nice short wait, we didn't mind. Ambience was fun and capacity was good-- good enough amount of tables/chairs Husband and I shared a cup of chowder (i LOVE the high temp it was served-- I've had too many thick warm, barely hot chowder and I had to encourage my enjoyment of them), 1 piece of fish for my husband and we shared a trio of the fried: scallops, shrimp, and oysters. The size of each was better than expected!! Batter was tasty and quality fresh! (See pics) We definitely are happy to have a place like this in Hollister! We'll be back to try other items. Went on a regular night and boy were they busy which I do take into account. But I will say our service was not excellent. But our poor server was definitely trying. They had a full house. Our food came out (we sat outside) it wasn't very warm and I didn't feel the portion for price was what I had expected. Clam chowder was pretty good! Our server was very pleasant and friendly. We started with the clam strips as an appetizer. They were nice and crispy. She brought ketchup and tartar sauce on the side in squeeze bottles. Which I thought was great because sometimes the ramekin isn't enough. We also got a pint of clam chowder came with a small pack of oyster crackers. The soup was nice and hot. This would be perfect on a cold day. My partner got the lobster roll and I got the blue crab sandwich. Both were really tasty. The lobster was nice and tender and it came with fries. My blue crab sandwich was good as well I was only able to eat half though. Big enough to share with someone who doesn't eat big portions. Tried to catch 25 for the first time. I bought the clam chowder, fish and chips and combination fried seafood. The clam chowder tasted like flour and water. They need to add clam juice and more ingredients. The fish and chips, the amount they give you is very good. The fish quality was good but the batter needs more taste. This was the same for the fried combo the fish quality great the batter lacking in taste. Their tartar sauce is delicious but their cocktail sauce is more like a hot sauce. read more

I have had the fish and chips, clam chowder, and teriyaki salmon and rice. The fish and chips and clam chowder were both good. I can't rate them as great only because the fish might have been a little too fried for me and the clam chowder while very good wasn't the best I've ever had. I will rate the teriyaki salmon with rice and vegetables as really good. The salmon was fresh and done perfectly. I'm giving the restaurant a rating of 5 vs. 4 because of their cleanliness and service. When they brought the Tatar and ketchup over to my table I noticed it was cold and had just come out of a refrigerator. A lot of restaurants don't take that care in storing their condiments. For a local seafood joint in Hollister, this place was a nice surprise. From the outside, it might scare off some people. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. There was construction in front with scaffolding and noise. Once seated, it was all about getting a good meal. I got the $22 blue crab sandwich. First bite was interesting. The jury is still out if bacon actually goes well with blue crab. While debating the issue in my head, I couldn't stop eating it. So there you go. read more

First Time -- Definitely Not the Last! We had our first meal at Catch 25 and were genuinely impressed! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The atmosphere is casual but nicely done -- perfect for a relaxed dinner out or a quick bite to go. We were seated right away, and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, offering great menu recommendations, zero pressure. We started with a bowl of clam chowder--it was so good! I love fish & chips, so I ordered the beer-battered fish & chips, and wow -- they were ASMR-worthy, for real. The batter was perfectly crunchy and stayed that way through the very last bite. It was delicious! The fries were crisp and satisfying, not an afterthought like at some places. My wife had the blue crab sandwich, served on a fresh, ciabatta-style bread that really complemented the crab flavor. The portions were generous -- we definitely didn't leave hungry! We're already planning to come back and eat our way through the rest of the menu. As a matter of fact, I can already see us ordering a couple of bowls of that clam chowder after a some holiday shopping in December! It's always hard to gauge a new restaurant with your first visit. The strip where it recently opened is under a lot of construction, and they're coming into a location that has struggled for many years. That being said, my first impressions were very good. I was greeted warmly at the door, and advised that they don't have to go menus yet, but they can do to go oders. Personally, I like the updated look to the place. It has a very casual dining vibe. The seating is plentiful and comfortable. I ordered a pair of crab cakes and a crab cake sandwich to try and get a feel for the food. I think that's probably where I made a mistake. The crab cakes have a LOT of filler. It's more like eating a crab loaf than a crab cake. I know everyone has their way they like to do it. Some fried, some grilled, etc. These are a cross between grilled and heavily breaded internally. The result is a very gummy crab cake, which was not pleasant to eat. That made me apprehensive to tackle the sandwich. I don't want to dwell entirely on the negative, here. This is two dishes made up of the same part. The bread on the sandwich was nice and tasted homemade, which is a huge plus. Unfortunately it's the same crab cake, and it tasted equally as gummy and filled. The sandwich itself was dry, which I was able to resolve with the generously provided extra tartar sauce, but the tomatoes were still green, which was a shame. The real winner here was the seasoned fries. I enjoyed those immensely with the tartar sauce, and ate nearly every one. While this may seem like a mostly negative review (it is for the crab cakes), I think this place is worth giving another try. I'm curious to give their chowder (I'm a chowder snob), fish and chips, and selection of grilled fishes (I'm from a fish heavy island family) a try. Just because it wasn't love at first bite doesn't mean we can't give this relationship a go. This town is desperate for something other than Mexican food or fast food. My husband and I wanted to try this new spot, mainly for the fish & chips to not have to go all the way to Monterey for it. I'm glad we did! The service was great, very friendly staff. The fish was very good; light and flaky. The pieces of fish were huge! I had leftovers and decided to make me a fish taco when I got home and OMG it was even better! My wife and I love Catch 25. We first gave it a try a few months ago, and since then we've come back at least a dozen times. What amazes us most is how consistently good everything is. I've tried maybe half the menu so far, every item we've ordered has been outstanding. The food is always fresh and flavorful. Our personal favorites are the Linguine Alfredo with Prawns (rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked), the raw oysters (always fresh and delicious), and the crab sandwich, which is incredibly fresh, cold, and packed with flavor. Every visit ends with us talking about what we want to order next time. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is welcoming, staff is great, and it's become one of our favorite places to get a real good bite to eat. Catch 25 has easily earned a spot on our short list of restaurants we recommend to friends and family without hesitation. Special shout out to one of the servers who has taken care of us at least half the time: Savana! 10/10. Five stars all the way. We really enjoyed the fish and chips, generous portions of fish that were fresh and tasty, and the fries were also good. The calamari was great, but the lobster sandwich felt a bit plain, it could've used more butter or some type of added flavor. The cheesecake was okay, though it had an almost frozen texture, likely from being stored too long in the fridge. While the prices are on the higher side, this is a nice local seafood spot. It's good but not great. Service is excellent. But.....catfish should be battered in corn meal. Full stop. No exceptions. Especially on a catfish sandwich. And if your business is centered on all things fried, then your #1 priority needs to be FRESH OIL. I know times are tough and prices high, but you can only make your oil last for a certain time before it turns dark and tastes bad. You can even see in the posted pictures here on Yelp that the color of the fish goes from golden yellow to chocolate brown. You should not serve chocolate brown battered fish. I might try it again, but if I see other plates coming out with brown fish, I won't order. I went there first thing when they opened, mostly because that's when I would expect fresh oil, but I could tell right away that they were cooking with days old oil. No bueno. The batter on the pollock is great, the fish otherwise seems fresh, but the brown oil just brings it all down a notch. read more

Took my mom to Catch 25 the other night for dinner. It was my first time there, but she's been before. The vibe inside is super casual and laid-back, which I liked. Our server was sweet and attentive, and the menu was huge, tons of combinations with fish, scallops, prawns, and more. I went with the prawn sandwich, and it came out fast. Big portion and seriously delicious. The prawns were bigger than I expected and perfectly fried and seasoned. I could only eat half. Let me start with I'm truly not a big seafood person, very rarely do I enjoy it, but yes took the wife knowing she's been craving some delicious seafood and Catch 25 but a home run. She had oysters, clam chowder and we shared fish and chips, wings, coleslaw and mozzarella sticks.
