A wonderful place to eat. Seating is both inside and outside on a lovely patio with heaters and/or umbrellas. It is right next the bay and across from the golf course so the view is gorgeous. Service is excellent as is the food. Fair warning, get there early for a meal because they are always crowded. My husband and I aim for 4:30 dinner to beat the rush. They are open most days for lunch but dinner is Wednesday through Sunday. They of course offer seafood but also have a respectable assortment of Mexican dishes. They have excellent clam chowder and also offer it California style -- mixed with a spicy green chili soup. You can also order the green chili soup but fair warning, it is spicy! We've been to this restaurant for dinner many times and it has never disappointed us. read more

My husband and I ate at Bayside for the first time a few weeks ago. We liked the menu selections and the location. My husband ordered the salmon and was a happy camper. I don't like fish so ordered the chicken and chips - it was okay, nothing special. That said, I have a feeling there are a lot better non-fish selections I could have ordered. Been camping at the state park for years and never even thought about hitting up Bayside Cafe. Went last weekend and it will be included in our rotation of favorite places to eat at. I had the spicy green chili soup, husband had the cream of mushroom and we split the fish and chips. Everything was hot and delicious. The spicy green chili has a kick to it but it isn't going to hurt you. No grease on the fish and chips. Got there about 20 minutes after opening for dinner and was seated immediately. It's pretty good for the area. Definitely a long wait but I think people come here for the proximity to the state park and good value for the price of the food. We ordered a $7 single taco that was basically an entire plate/meal on its own. No way could I have eaten two. Green Chile soup was good and probably the healthiest thing on the menu, next to the salads. Chips were probably fried in-house and quite greasy. I had the California Chowder and calamari fries after reading all the reviews on here. The chile verde didn't make the chowder anything special. I actually preferred my friend's regular chowder as it was more viscous. The calamari fries were prepared well, but having them in rings would do them a far greater justice. Serving calamari fries with French fries just makes the dish visually confusing and heavy. What really makes this place special is the service. We were waited on attentively and the staff was more than courteous. There's also the magnificent view of the Bay at every table in the cafe adding a quaint ambiance to the dining experience. 3/5 stars for the food, +1 for great service and the view. read more

My husband and I live in Morro Bay and have been regulars at Bayside for many years. We have noticed that the quality of the food has decreased considerably for the same menu items we have loved. The hostess has also been rude 3 times now and if it ever happens again we will speak to management. I am sorry to say that I would not recommend this restaurant other than for the fact that the waiters (especially Garret) are absolutely wonderful and service oriented. read more

We've been wanting to try Bayside Cafe for the many years that we've been visiting the Morro Bay area but it was often too crowded...with COVID-19 and their outside patio, we decided that now was a good time. Overall, I would say that it was good and we would probably return. Here are some things we noted: - Good spacing of tables outdoors with heaters to help cut the chill - Good menu. My wife had the clam chowder but the rest of us had the California chowder...both were good, but the CA chowder was a bit more watery due to the green chili sauce. - My wife got the chicken cobb salad, which was pretty ordinary. I got the Cod taco special, which was good but not spectacular. - Service was very attentive. Bottom line: Great location and ambiance, pretty basic from a food standpoint but not bad whatsoever. read more

I was genuinely surprised by our negative experience here because all of the reviews made it seem so perfect. I want to give more than one star because our waitress was sweet, but aside from the service pretty much everything else was bad. To start, our waters tasted strongly like mildew. My friends and I immediately looked at each other after taking a sip, and all agreed something tasted very wrong. Then our calamari came out; it was thick and chewy and seemed like it was pre-frozen? It was really unlike any calamari I've had before, in a bad way. When it came to our main dishes the taste was fine, nothing really negative or positive to say regarding taste. They give you a lot too (too much for me to finish), so I guess you're getting a lot for your money in terms of portion size. However, my friend ordered the linguine with clams, and all night/the next couple of days she had an upset stomach. We really don't know for sure if that's what it was, but she was the only one with that issue and the only one who ate those clams. Aside from the food and drinks being disappointing, the bathroom could also use some improvement; it's a bit of a walk from the restaurant and was not the cleanest. Overall it really was quite a let down. I hate to complain about places or say anything negative but my friends and I all agreed that it was a bad dining experience eating here. read more

When you're hungry in Morro Bay and there's rain and wind howling clam chowder is obviously the answer. We were on our way out of MB during Thanksgiving weekend and wanted something a little different than our usual. After some quick perusing on Yelp I found that there was indeed a unique spot between Los Osos and Morro Bay that served Chili Soup MIXED with Clam Chowder - bingo! We made our way to Bayside Cafe in the pouring rain and found ourselves second on the list and squished inside the Cafe amongst other waiting patrons. Just note that if the weather is iffy you might be waiting for a while. Luckily we squeaked in before a large group and got a table within 10 minutes. The views were lovely, especially with the rain. And the green chili - chowder was delightful. Of course it's watered down slightly because of the chili soup but it imparted a nice flavor. I would have liked more chili flavor and especially more heat but I realize a lot of other folks might not be a fan of that. I've walked by this place whenever we are visiting and it is always hopping. This time around our family decided to try it out. Wow! So happy we did! Hubby ordered the fish & chips. He loved them! If I could have gluten, I would! They looked amazing. I ordered the chicken fajitas. The waitress mentioned they were a bit different than other places, made with a sweet & sour sauce. I can't even begin to describe how amazing Bayside Cafe is! I am roadtripping from Big Sur to LA and stopped in Morro Bay for lunch and luckily saw this on Yelp - WOW. The location is amazingly picturesque, the food was delicious and homemade, and the staff was exceptional - Lance was so so so sweet and Sarah was the coolest! She would have made it a five star review alone! Definitely stop here for a bite, and don't forget dessert - the boysenberry crisp was delicious!
