When we found this place on Yelp, the reviews were so good we suspected that it might be because there weren't a lot of other restaurants close by - that isn't the case at all.  The reviews are high because this place is over-the-top awesome! We stopped here for lunch, and all of us were totally satisifed with every aspect of the meal.  The service was flawless, the food was excellent, and the prices where very reasonable :-) While you can't really go wrong with anything they serve here, I'll point out that their chowder is delicious, the nachos are crispy and piled high with toppings, and the fried cod was outstanding. It was very hard to decide on a place to have dinner on a Saturday Night. Down town was very busy. So we asked the ranger at the campground and she recommend Bayside Café. There was a little bit of a wait for three adults. Plenty of parking and you can walk from the campground. Still a very nice view of Morro Bay. We live in San Diego so we have good Seafood every where. This place was great. The food was Topnotch. We got the Onion rings as an app so good. The Halibut special and Salmon on greens will knock your socks off! The Fried Sampler was also yummy! The service made this meal even better! I can't say enough about all the staff at this restaurant. There is nothing more that I hate than to go to a restaurant and spend money and not get good service. I have been to many upscale restaurants and dives in my town and have not been treated this well. They were attentive, made great suggestions and keep checking to see if we needed anything. Bottle beer was nice and cooled. Always a plus. We are not local and I am of Latin Decent and this restaurant treated us impeccably and had amazing food!!! 20 minute wait at 12:10 pm on a Friday in January. Chose to eat inside. Drink order was fast. Order taken quickly as well. Food came within 3 or 4 minutes. My clam chowder bowl was delicious and creamy. Ranks behind Seattle, San Francisco, and Monterey but was still an excellent choice. One of us had the fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. The breading was excellent. Fries were perfectly cooked. The best dish at the table. Another of us had the tuna sandwich. It was on the dryer side and needed some additional seasoning. We wouldn't order that again. Service was outstanding and friendly. Ambiance was standard roadside cafe in a beautiful setting. Clam chowder is a bit watery and has a strange green tint. Caesar salad was light on dressing and bland, but grilled chicken topping was good. Fish and chips is very good, so is the steamers. Service is better than average. Will come again next time we camp at the state park. read more

Morro Bay is one of our favorite places to visit. Additionally, the Bayside Cafe is a must go to place to eat. It was a beautiful sunny day so we ate in the patio. Very clean with a nice view of the marina and bay. Each table had its own umbrella for shade. After a short wait our menus were brought to us and drink order was taken. It was lunch time so I ordered a French Dip sandwich with fries. I am a sucker for this if it is on the menu. My wife had a turkey and avacado sandwich with the clam chowder. Both of us were very happy with the service and quality of the lunch. My wife especially enjoyed the clam chowder. I was very pleased with the French dip. They were even kind enough to provide some horse radish to add. Fries were top quality and delicious. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

Great food at Bayside Cafe I loved how they were following all the protocols to be safe. Tables wiped down along with front and back side of the chairs. You can scan the QR code to have a hands free menu. All employees were wearing a mask. Condiments were individual packets. I give them a A+ for all the precautions they took! Plus the food was great! Came here for lunch after camping and had a great time. Food was quick and excellent and water was served infused with cucumbers! Made the 30 min drive while visiting SLO. As soon as I pulled up, there were 5 otters snoozing in the bay. It was a gorgeous day so I walked the length of the marina before heading in. The host, drink server, and food server were all fantastic! Everything looked great that was arriving around me so it was hard to decide. I ordered the nachos off of a recommendation from family. Best Nachos I've ever had. I got the half order with Tri-tip and barely finished half the plate. The chips are perfectly thick, crispy, and seasoned. The toppings were plentiful and the cheese was broiled. My only regret is that I was dining solo, visiting for the day, and couldn't try more of the menu. It's also a short driving distance away from the Rock and some cute waterfront towns to walk around. read more

We went here for the deserts After eating only fried foods, the majority of Morro Bay restaurants, I saw a picture their pies. We each a piece of different pies; the chocolate cream, the tres leches cake, the chocolate oblivion and the mud pie. The chocolate oblivion came with a bitter berry sauce which I'm not a fan of, but my wife liked it. The mud pie was an ice cream filled pie that was very good and rich, very rich in chocolate. The tres leches cake was like a cheese cake and you can taste the thick rich cream cheese filling. After awhile of eating their pies, our desert craving was satisfied and we couldn't eat any more. Cute and cozy location near the water! My boyfriend and I went for lunch on a Tuesday and there was actually a good amount of people there. We waited for about ~7 mins and were promptly seated. All of the workers were so friendly! I had an awful experience. The food and service were great. I mistakenly left my credit card behind. I phoned the restaurant the next day. They found it. They promised to mail it the next day. The next day, I checked my account, and found 4 large charges from the Morro Bay/SLO area. over $1400. I phoned them multiple times, wrote emails to their website. NO RESPONSE. Finally, spoke with an Asst manager, who said the owner wound contact me. NEVER heard from them. Although this had nothing to do with the food and service, I will not go back to this restaurant. Super excellent waitress (I think her name is Sally) who was friendly and got our orders correct the first time. Deep fried foods are crispy and light and HOT (be careful of burning your mouth). I highly recommend any of the deep fried foods, such as the onion rings....not healthy but very delicious. Crab cakes are mediocre as I can barely taste any crab. When I walked in and noticed Carrot Ginger soup was soup of the day, I knew it was going to be a good experience. And I wasn't disappointed, the soup was delicious and wish I could have had the recipe. I selected the fish and chips, but was able to substitute the fries for the soup. Loved that I had that option. We chose to eat inside even though it was a beautiful day. The view of the bay made for a good relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed watching the kayaks launching. First time here for my wife and I at the Bayside Cafe and we both wondered why we had never come to this wonderful cafe during our many visits to Morro Bay! First of all, it is situated overlooking the Morro Bay Estuary. There was a bit of a wait to be seated and we soon realized why it was so popular. We were seated at a table overlooking the Estuary and our drink order was promptly taken. Our server (I didn't get her name) was helpful in explaining some of the menu items and took our order promptly. I ordered the salmon sandwich and my wife ordered the crab sandwich, both on a soft pretzel bun. Both were excellent. All in all, an excellent experience! We will be back. read more

Super casual cafe next to a small marina and overlooking the water. We tried here based on a recommendation from a friend, and you'd really need to be looking for this place, as it's not on a main thoroughfare and would be easy to drive by and miss it. Well worth the stop for a good lunch! They have some indoor seating, and patio seating. The day we went, we got there ahead of the lunch rush; by the time we were seated and ordering, there was a wait for tables. The menu has a number of sandwiches and salads, burgers, and a few Mexican items. I had chicken enchiladas, and my wife had the club sandwich. Both dishes were very generous portions, and the club sandwich was excellent. The enchiladas were very tasty, although the chicken was just slightly tough. Still enough food to make one able to skip dinner or have a light dinner. Service was friendly and casual. Seems like the kind of place where the staff chit chat with the regulars. Right near the bay, this restaurant has lots to offer! There is outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the fresh air that the bay provides or you can sit inside and still get views out towards the bay. It is nestled near the Morro Bay campgrounds and close to the estuary and small museum. There is plenty to do in this area! The food and service were great and I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting! We were a party of 6 adults and 2 children and they were able to accommodate outdoor seating for us all. I ordered a hamburger and fries. It was great flavor and the patty was juicy. Others ordered a bread bowl, fish and chips. They all loved the food! The staff is friendly and very attentive. What a hidden gem! We camped at the state park for the weekend and decided to grab lunch here. Nestled between the Morro Bay State Park and the estuary, Bayside offers the best fish and chips! My husband got a burger and loved it too. Good service, wonderful location and breathtaking views! Our entire family (6 adults and 2 babies) ate here and everyone was happy with their food. Considering our large party and all of the food we ordered, I was so impressed by how quick and fresh everything was. It looks like this place is usually busy, so plan ahead. The green Chile soup was fantastic! It had small bits of potatoes and cheese and just a kick of spiciness. The ambiance was nice, they had patio heaters were perfect, not too hot but kept us cozy while sitting outside. There's plenty of parking and views of the estuary if you choose to sit down n the closed off patio with window panels. The staff and service was super friendly and attentive. We went with two toddlers and they were really friendly and accommodating. The soup was offered in small, large, and the bread bowl. Almost didn't get the bread bowl but it was SOOO worth it! Solid little cafe on the bay. Both kids had fish and chips which were great. Being that close to water, I would have thought fresh fish would be used but they were using Alaskan cod, which was great still. Wife had a Cobb salad which was good. This place NEVER disappoints! From the friendly service ( yesterday Garrett was our server), to the views, atmosphere, and most importantly, the great food. I had the seafood pasta which was loaded with shrimp, clams, scallops, and fish. Wow was it good! My wife and mom had the "special " which was Alaskan Halibut. It generally comes with rice but they both requested the creamy mashed potatoes. Cooked to perfection, both were extremely satisfied. We were all stuffed, but Garrett tempted us to check out the dessert menu. We ended up taking home the Key Lime Pie and the flourless chocolate cake. Both desserts were to die for. This is generally our go to spot when visiting Morro Bay, and I look forward to returning soon! read more

Located right across from the State Park camping area and adjacent to the small harbor, it's a perfect spot for having good food in a very picturesque setting. The one served was actually a salad, in a bowl, that smothered the fried tortilla shell as I was to discover as I shifted my salad/tostada to one side out of curiosity as to whether or not the tortilla was under it all. To me a tostada is to be built so that you can pick it up if you choose and take a bite. A simple name change would suffice. Or, provide the same ingredients on 3 tostada shells. The appetizer, fried calamari was over fried and each bite a disappointment. The fish and chips were not worth a special trip to return. The clam chowder was passable. The service was ok less the busboy ? bringing me water with ice after my asking for water without ice. He seemed disracted as he asked us questions. Food arrived in a timely manner. read more

A somewhat unusual addition to tuna but it worked and I am here for it. Hands down the best tuna salad sandwich ever. Their sourdough was fresh and soft to bite into as well. My friend hates me so she ordered carrot cake for dessert. My willpower to avoid the sweet treat faltered and I dug in (the waitress is at fault for bringing two forks ha!). The cake was homemade and DAMN! It was real deal! You could tell that wasn't some cruddy grocery store bakery cake. It was baked with love and plenty of sugary goodness. That's not a bad thing, and based on my previous experiences dining along the wharf area, this is a pretty good place to check out for lunch.. Bayside Cafe is located on the south side of Morro Bay with a secluded parking lot that's across from a kayak rental place. The menu consists of fresh salads, fried fish, pasta, burgers, and Mexican food. Most people were ordering salads for lunch.. Nachos - They hit this one out of the park. Even though we ordered a half order it was still fully loaded with deliciousness for everyone. If you're a nacho lover, you might just order this as your whole meal. Salmon Sandwich. They cooked the salmon to perfection. If there was one thing that I'd change it would be the bread choice. They use a soft sweet Brioche bun. For a $15.5 sandwich, it really needed something like a soft ciabatta bread, telera bread, or even a rustic/focaccia bread. The sweetness was a bit too much and it was very soft. Still, this sandwich was good. - Their burritos are the best value on the menu. I'd recommend getting it wet style because they could use a flavor boost. - The place to go for fish and chips, salads, and nachos. - Bathrooms are outside and public - Spicy Green Chile Soup had enough heat to make it worth your while. read more

Everything is very nice, from the on-the-bay location to the service to the food. We came for lunch and had the daily halibut fish special, shrimp tacos, calamari and chips (the hit of our choices) and my son had a burrito. Taste was good, very fresh everything, and portions were enough to be satisfying. To add to all of this goodness, the prices are fair. Get there early and wait in line. Definitely worth it. Bayside Cafe is a pretty cute spot that's right on the water. The ambience is friendly diner meets beach shack. Their wrap around windows make inside dining feel outside and they have a cute outdoor patio. On a Wednesday in November it was hard to believe that there was a 20 minute wait for lunch, but the spot seemed to be poppin--and for good reason. When we were seated we ordered water and they came back with some cucumber water--how classy! For lunch a lot of our table ordered the chili, chowder, or a combo of both which was the California Chowder. The California Chowder is a must try--its a great spin on your typical chowder and adds a nice kick! I'll definitely be swinging by again if I'm ever in the area! read more
