Came by for the 4th of July morning, they were open. Nice little spot with good seating. Restrooms and the dining area were clean. They have a self serve salsa bar. I ordered the carne asada burrito and the wife ordered the huevos rancheros. The burrito did not have sufficient asada meat, more rice than anything. My wife's huevos rancheros were good. I would come again and try something different. The service was fast.

Succulent & most delicious street tacos with crispy edges & cooked to perfection. Truly Tacos El Viejon has some of the best street tacos outside of Los Angeles. Go on Tuesday for 2 -fer- 1 pastor tacos (pork) and Wednesdays have same special for pollo tacos (chicken).... such a great deal! Garnish with a full array of condiments from their salsa bar. Note of caution: the green avocado looking salsa is actually their spiciest one! Salsa Fresca is super tasty and not too spicy. Owners are super sweet and always aim to please. Feel good to support a small business that just so happens to have the very best tacos in SLO County!!

Al pastor tacos 3.50 each (except Tuesdays)

Been trying to find a good taco Tuesday since leaving LA. This place satisfies my street taco cravings. They have 2 for 1 pastor tacos on Tuesday. Pozole special on the weekend and the little bar with salsa, limes, and all the onion and cilantro you could want. Their michelada slaps too!

This is the spot!!!

Ok first of all we have never been in morro bay till this weekend. We were with our grand daughter she is a cheerleader at Cal Poly and got to spend time with her!! On our way back I was looking for menudo and posole and there was a couple of choices out here!!! I really love the little places with good food!!! We can to this place and my wife was talking to I'm assuming was the owner in Spanish!! He was very nice!!!! She ordered the menudo and I ordered posole!!! When it comes to these I am very picky!!! So Saying this I have to say omg!!!this was one of the best tasting of both I have ever had!!! Talking to an older lady that was here with her husband she said she comes here a lot and the food is so good and authentic Mexican food!!! and I have to agree just saying this that this will be the first time I have given five stars for a place that I've only been to one time! That's how good it was! We will definitely be back in this area again to try other options, which I am sure will be just as good. Ambience was nice. Plenty of seating if you are in this area and are looking for Mexican food, don't miss out on this place. You will regret not coming here. It was very good. I will put up some pictures so you can see what we had but check it out.

Got the Pozole

If you want authentic Mexican, like your mom cooks. THIS IS THE PLACE!! My family and I got the menudo and birria, and tacos.

I ordered the asada nachos for delivery. It was delivered in a short amount of time. Delivered to where I instructed by a very pleasant DoorDasher. Food was still 'HOT' and tasty. Made me wish I had ordered a beer as well. The asada was fresh, moist, and added wonderful flavor to the dish. Lots of melted cheese. Tortilla chips held up well under all the topping goodness. I would have liked to see diced tomatoes but not complaining. It was a great experience for the quality of the food, service, and flavor. Well done Tacos El Viejon

I gave this eatery 4 stars mostly because it was open on the 4th of July at dinner, and it seems pretty authentic to places I've eaten in Mexican border towns. It is very small, the menus are hand written on the wall, and the patrons were primarily hispanic or at least Spanish speaking. This is one of 4 eateries serving Mexican fare and 2 were closed this evening. The other was overflowing with customers beyond their capacity. So we walked down to this place and ordered 3 combo enchiladas plates and one pork tamale. Drinks are in cans from a cooler. The meals were served on actual plates at the table but the utensils are very cheap toss away plastic. The portions were very generous and arrived quickly. Two of us liked the enchiladas and one not so much. I was always told you can judge a cook by the rice and beans. Neither of these impressed me here, but in all fairness, given the later hour on a holiday they were probably cooked much earlier in the day since they open at 8 am 7 days a week. We ate fairly quickly and weren't sure if we needed to bus our table so we left and felt quilty about it. This is a very small business and seems to have a loyal customer base of locals. I probably won't choose to eat here again, bur would possibly get take out.

I ordered the calamari tacos, and the portion was huge. The plate came loaded -- tacos with melted cheese, a fresh salad, and a side of unique "spaghetti-style" fries. The calamari itself was lightly breaded and very tasty, and I really enjoyed the salad (super fresh and flavorful). The fries weren't my favorite, though, and overall the portion was so big that I ended up leaving quite a bit -- which felt a bit wasteful. My husband had the Alaskan cod tacos, and I actually loved that they were not breaded -- that's my personal preference. The fish tasted fresh, light, and really well prepared. Our daughter ordered the kids chicken taco, and honestly, it was excellent -- loaded with chicken, very flavorful, and clearly made fresh. We also tried the tres leches cake. The slice was large but for me it was a bit too sweet, especially with the caramel on top and the thick whipped cream layer. I know there are many variations of tres leches, and this one just wasn't my favorite. We also had a crab cake -- fried on the outside, soft and delicious inside. Overall, a solid spot with big portions, fast service, and lots of flavor. Just come hungry!

The menu is extensive but I only had one thing in mind and thus I got the CLAM CHOWDER BOWL $6.99 and HALIBUT fish and chips $24.99 plus $2 garlic fries upgrade. Sorry to say this place is as many have said, a tourist trap. The halibut batter lacked seasoning it was practically tasteless. It's freshly fried however. Fries upgrade helped the fries only. The entire basket didn't taste much like anything and the tartar didn't help. The clam chowder was very salty. And I mean, very. It barely had clams in it and didn't taste rich and mostly had big cubes of potato. It was disappointing. The lines can get very long very fast. They have a good spot with greats views or Morro Rock. Parking is free everywhere to my knowledge.

I ordered the Calamity Jane burger, and wow, it was absolutely delicious and HUGE. You will honestly get full after eating just half of it. I also got a side of their potatoes with the spicy garlic sauce for dipping, and it was so good. Definitely a must-order! They also had a great selection of sangrias, which was a nice bonus. The only thing I'd mention is that it can be a little pricey if you're dining solo, so if you're going on a date, be ready for your pockets to take a little dent. Next time I come back, I definitely want to try the shrimp tacos because they sounded amazing. I was torn between those and the burger, but I went with my default order. Had to park across the street in the surf shop parking lot for a handicapped space, luckily the traffic wasn't too bad crossing the Embarcadero. Waited quite a while to be seated. Loud concrete floor with metal chairs, could hear the conversation of all the other diners!! Distractions from people walking by on the Embarcadero, but great Rock view. Ordered cheeseburger with potatoes. Salad was "mixed greens" so I didn't order a salad. Next time I will get their wedge salad, but I didn't know if I could finish it with the burger and potatoes this time. Server said no fries or chicken strips becasue they don't have a fryer. Free refills for sodas, but only a little bit of ice. It was a bit syrupy and had a lack of carbonation, might have been Pepsi instead of Coke. Steak knife included with utensils, which came in handy because the burger was really slippery and I had to eat with a knife and fork!! Potatoes looked overcooked but that was because they are purple potatoes!! They tasted ok, luckily not too spicy like everything is these days. I liked the non-purple potato's texture better. Slow to refill my drink. I will come here again and have the wedge salad, from the pic it looks smaller than I expected this time around so it will be able to be eaten with a burger!!

Our server, Paloma was so attentive to our 4 yr old son. He was served first thing, and not once was he overlooked or ignored. The server actually caught my son when he managed to tip his chair back and she did it swiftly, without making a scene and told him she's done that before, so that he wasn't embarrassed or uncomfortable. We arrived around 3:30 on a Saturday and the restaurant was moderately busy. Our table was in the interior dining room at the window (nice view). Our Server for this experience (Kate) presented us with menus promptly. Kate was fabulous...her service "spot-on", professional and very personable as well (thank-you Kate). Our order consisted of Drinks : A Lemon Drop (4/5 - the question here was if the cocktail actually contained alcohol. We were assured it did, but the drink was replaced non-the-less. The replacement tasted the same ‍..."our bad", but Kate didn't charge us for either!). A Sandy Beach (5/5 - ya...this cocktail is outstanding!) and a Big Sur IPA (5/5). Our ordered Mains: Mushroom Swiss w/ Bacon 2X - one w/ Beer Battered Fries, the other w/a Side Caesar Salad - (5/5 - a definite "go-to burger " cause it's sooo darn good) Bay Basket (Mahi Mahi w/double Coleslaw) - (5/5 delicious and enough to take home for another meal) Grilled Jalapeno Burger (w/egg and Bacon) - (5/5 - always a winner). The wait for our meal after receiving our drinks seemed remarkably short...yay! This occasion was a Birthday celebration meal for one of our party of 4...and Kate presented us with a very delicious piece of Carrot Cake which was large enough for all of us to share - (5/5...if we could give the Carrot Cake a "higher" score/rating we would. It is, as far as Carrot Cake goes, truly OUTSTANDING!) The dining experience couldn't have been better...Kate's service and customer service in "making it right" with the Cocktail and Birthday Cake, the atmosphere/view and the fabulous food didn't disappoint. Once again, on this occasion, in this Yelper's opinion...Morro Grill on the Embarcadero in Morro Bay truly earned this "really, ya gotta go and enjoy" 5 Star review!
