Was looking for taco places near SLO and came across this one on Yelp. My dad really likes buche so thankfully this place had it. This restaurant is quite small but they have a small lot and plenty of street parking. When we walked in, you need to order at the counter first and then find a place to sit. There was a salsa bar where you can choose your own. There was a lot of salsa options to choose from and it was definitely spicy. My family and I opted for their burritos and I got their crispy tacos. 1. Burritos (asada, pollo, and buche): 7/10 Burritos were filling - it came with rice, beans, onions, and the meat itself. However we all agreed that it tasted mainly of beans and rice, but very little meat which was disappointing. 2. Crispy tacos: 4/10 This was meh - the tacos were crispy but super small and very little meat per taco (was less than a teaspoon in all honesty). Definitely wouldn't recommend and I should have stuck with trying their soft-shelled tacos. Overall, it was a nice place to stop by, eat some Mexican food, and the price was decent. read more

My first time here and I enjoyed it. The prices are not bad. The food was amazing. I had the trips tacos and cabesa, they will awesome. The menudo was great. I didn't have to wait for the weekend to eat it. They have it every day. Clean and good vibe. read more

Came by for the 4th of July morning, they were open. Nice little spot with good seating. Restrooms and the dining area were clean. They have a self serve salsa bar. I ordered the carne asada burrito and the wife ordered the huevos rancheros. The burrito did not have sufficient asada meat, more rice than anything. My wife's huevos rancheros were good. Wanted to go to Mi Casa but they were closed. I was hungry for a shrimp cocktail. And this restaurant is just down the road from MiCasa. I ordered a shrimp cocktail from here and got it home to discover the sauce was thick ketchup and the two shrimps, I ate, that were suspended in the goo were spongey. Even the saltine crackers had a stale flavor, straight out of the sealed packages. I opened two. Both were bad. I took 4 bites and couldn't get through it. I threw everything away. Complete waste of $20. The one really good thing was a jalapeño salsa. That had an amazing flavor. The inside looked dirty. I wasn't sure if was even open. The door was braced open with an old rag. Succulent & most delicious street tacos with crispy edges & cooked to perfection. Truly Tacos El Viejon has some of the best street tacos outside of Los Angeles. Go on Tuesday for 2 -fer- 1 pastor tacos (pork) and Wednesdays have same special for pollo tacos (chicken).... such a great deal! Garnish with a full array of condiments from their salsa bar. Note of caution: the green avocado looking salsa is actually their spiciest one! Salsa Fresca is super tasty and not too spicy. Owners are super sweet and always aim to please. The staff and owner here are incredibly kind and very welcoming, and the restaurant is pretty cozy. Though I'm usually grabbing take out from here, there's plenty of seating inside and outside. OKAY THE FOOD: *everything's made to order, and always comes out fresh & tasty * I LOVE their horchata and their hibiscus agua Fresca, you really can't go wrong with them * though I absolutely love their tacos & burritos, they have some great enchiladas here. Food tasted just like home! Super affordable for Morro Bay. Service was so speedy, and the ambience of the restaurant was so comfortable. Salsa and other condiments were available for our plates, but our food was the star of it all since it tasted exactly like I would have eaten back at home. I got the enchiladas and a burrito. One enchilada was chicken, the other cheese, and the last one Carne Asada. The burrito was Carne Asada. Ok first of all we have never been in morro bay till this weekend. We were with our grand daughter she is a cheerleader at Cal Poly and got to spend time with her!! On our way back I was looking for menudo and posole and there was a couple of choices out here!!! I really love the little places with good food!!! We can to this place and my wife was talking to I'm assuming was the owner in Spanish!! He was very nice!!!! She ordered the menudo and I ordered posole!!! When it comes to these I am very picky!!! So Saying this I have to say omg!!!this was one of the best tasting of both I have ever had!!! Talking to an older lady that was here with her husband she said she comes here a lot and the food is so good and authentic Mexican food!!! and I have to agree just saying this that this will be the first time I have given five stars for a place that I've only been to one time! That's how good it was! We will definitely be back in this area again to try other options, which I am sure will be just as good. Ambience was nice. I ordered the asada nachos for delivery. It was delivered in a short amount of time. Delivered to where I instructed by a very pleasant DoorDasher. Food was still 'HOT' and tasty. Made me wish I had ordered a beer as well. The asada was fresh, moist, and added wonderful flavor to the dish. Lots of melted cheese. Tortilla chips held up well under all the topping goodness. I gave this eatery 4 stars mostly because it was open on the 4th of July at dinner, and it seems pretty authentic to places I've eaten in Mexican border towns. It is very small, the menus are hand written on the wall, and the patrons were primarily hispanic or at least Spanish speaking. This is one of 4 eateries serving Mexican fare and 2 were closed this evening. The other was overflowing with customers beyond their capacity. So we walked down to this place and ordered 3 combo enchiladas plates and one pork tamale. Drinks are in cans from a cooler. The meals were served on actual plates at the table but the utensils are very cheap toss away plastic. The portions were very generous and arrived quickly. Two of us liked the enchiladas and one not so much. I was always told you can judge a cook by the rice and beans. Neither of these impressed me here, but in all fairness, given the later hour on a holiday they were probably cooked much earlier in the day since they open at 8 am 7 days a week. We ate fairly quickly and weren't sure if we needed to bus our table so we left and felt quilty about it. This is a very small business and seems to have a loyal customer base of locals. Came here because of the good reviews and feel compelled to let you know they are very misleading. Watery, tasteless beans, rice has no seasoning, I order the flauta combo plate with shredded beef ($16.99) and instead got tiny, flavorless chicken taquitos. Incredibly rude older lady at the counter who is not shy at all about letting you know she doesn't like white people. Should've stayed home and cooked! My food is way better! With 4 Mexican restaurants within walking distance of this place, you'd think they'd try a little harder. Oh, and if you're even remotely attractive, expect all the cooks to come out one at a time to perv out on you. Yuck. read more

Took a burrito to-go because I've been craving a good breakfast burrito. This chorizo & egg burrito definitely hit the spot and I'll get it again next time! It has a unique (great) flavor compared to other places I've had chorizo burritos from (not sure what it is! Maybe their chorizo?) Best breakfast burrito I've had on the coast. I live in south county and might need to drive up to morro specifically for these burritos. I was driving through last weekend and was hangry and picked the first random place to pull over and get a burrito before getting back on the highway. I was absolutely blown away. I should have ordered another one for lunch and dinner. I don't usually post pics of half eaten food cause I think that's gross but it didn't come cut in half probably cause I didn't ask. Can't go wrong getting tacos here. They have all sorts of meal options ranging from asada, pastor, suadero, cabeza, buche, carnitas, pollo and chorizo. So far we have tried pastor, suadero, canitas, and cabeza and they were all excellent! The alambre is also really delicious taco stuffed with carne asada topped with cheese, grilled onions and peppers. I am usually apprehensive about asada but El Viejon's asada was tender and beautifully seasoned. Eating the asada inside the alambre makes me want to get it by itself in a tacos next time. They also have a condiment stand and the jalapeno sauce was hard to beat! All and all, great restaurant! read more

Tacos El Viejon has completely remodeled the inside of the building. It is very clean and welcoming. There is a TV which was airing National Geographic in Spanish. For locals, this is the same building as the prior Chinese restaurant that was here for many years. This place is very relaxed and comfortable. One orders at the front of the restaurant, and it is delivered when the order is complete. There is no wait staff. The menu shows the offerings of burritos, nachos, quesadillas, tacos, & torta sandwiches with many different kinds of meat. The pastor burrito was of a good size. Absolutely the BEST breakfast burritos I have ever had! I ordered mine with bacon but you can get chorizo or ham, and all come with egg, cheese and hash-browns. They are HUGE and come with the best tortilla chips and fantastic salsa. This has become a "must go to" place every time we head to the coast, Giovani's being the only other one in Morro Bay. Some of the best Mexican food I have had in Morro bay! My kids had the asada tacos with a Mexican coke and I had an asada burrito. My kids destroyed the tacos. I ate half my burrito and was stuffed. Everyone enjoyed the salsa bar and trying the different salsas and condiments. I also had an aqua de jamica and it was refreshing. Later as we were driving back from seeing the elephants seals my kids devoured the rest of my burrito. They were very sure it was divided equally because no one really wanted to share. They wanted it all for themselves. I don't blame them because ever component in the burrito would taste good on its own so when combined it was awesome! A run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Not great, not bad. The burrito was fine but the quesadilla had too much cheese and was too heavy

Meat is very flavorful and the food is good. We ordered 11 asada tacos. 2 saudero tacos which were perfect! Tripas are crunchy which many people love. The price is a little high but the food is worth it. Cash is cheaper than using a card, I think it brought our total down by $10. The service was also pretty quick considering our order and the people were nice. read more
