Ive never eaten at the actual restaurant , I've only done the tepanyaki (hibachi). The filet with the hibachi is absolutely exceptional, very tender. It's hard to give bad service when eating hibachi so the service is also consistently good. Probably some of the best sushi in the Arcata/Eureka area. 4 stars overall. I've been here about five times. Sometimes it's insanely crowded, other times it's dead. One of the waitresses didn't know the name of the sauce she was bringing to the table. May be the last time I go here. Poor service, I left a roughly 8% tip (I usually do ~20%). Fish wasn't fresh, we were charged for a beverage we didn't order or receive. Mostly it was just the poor service though. The waiter was pretty inattentive and didn't come by to help us unless we asked. For a $150 meal I expect better. read more

I love this new location. The view is great and it is so nice to have a restaurant on the waterfront. The food is terrific. I always get the asparagus soup, their sushi is terrific and the saki is too. The Italian dishes are good.They use excellent quality truffle oil and Parmesan. We have work meetings here occasionally. The service is great. I would recommend the kaleidoscope or black kitty on the sushi menu. Teppenyaki is a great enjoyment for a gathering with friends or with family and kids. Very relaxing atmosphere and the staff are excellent. We go back several times a month. Consistent sushi rolls and miso soup. Great tempura and a beautiful presentation. My favorite is the Golden Dragon.

The only reason that I'm not giving this a perfect score is because their tomodachi is the worst I've ever had (Sushi Spot (check out in Arcata, or McKinleyville) has the best.), and their katsu isn't that great. Now, putting the negative aside, I LOVE their teppanyaki! They have a few rolls (on the sushi side) that are absolutely tasty. The staff is friendly, and the prices reasonable for what they have to offer. They just got new artwork up which is a nice change. The stuff that they've had up previously was not pleasant to look at, but this looks much better and really adds to the ambiance. The only thing I haven't tried here is the Italian type of food. And I have been here a LOT. I think I just love sushi & going to teppanyaki so much that I just don't associate this place with Italian food. If you go to teppanyaki I recommend you do the VIP for two (a little bit of everything), and see if you can get Jacki. He's really great. Not that the others aren't great too (because they are), but he's REALLY great and adds to the fun experience that is teppanyaki! read more

Decent food but not the best Italian or Japanese food I've had. It's a large relatively large restaurant but it feels a bit touristy and the prices seem to agree. However, if you're looking for a view and dinner this is the place to go. To say it bluntly, the service is horrible! Waiting 45 for one roll! The male server who is there everyday during lunch.....he is the worst. Comes in from smoking outside, directly to handling food, no hand washing! The volcano roll is amazing. We all know finding good food in this area is not common. I enjoyed my visit. Like other reviews, it is a bit pricey. I was satisfied with the flavors of the sushi, yet the rolls had way too much rice. You can't eat them in one bite like most sushi rolls unless you are a muppet. With that said they are hard to eat without making a mess. Once you take the first bite the rest falls apart. Eating with chop sticks and not having to use forks is supposed to be part of the experience at a Japanese restaurant . The food was pretty good and I really liked the specials. The location is great and overall I enjoyed my meal. We were there fairly late for lunch (1:45 pm), so I can't vouch for noise levels, or attire, but the food was amazing. I had the crab burger, and received an education. Being a native Californian I had never eaten anything but Dungeness crab all my life. When I received my burger I opened it up and remarked, "Oh, look, they made it look just like a little crab!" To which our waiter replied, "It is a crab. It's a soft shell crab." Being a native of New Jersey, he proceeded to tell us about the joys of soft shell crabs, particularly in Maryland. Well, I was a bit embarrassed, but in Heaven when I bit into my "burger." My husband had a hamburger, and said it was delicious. Both were served on home-baked buns. The side dish was "potato chips" prepared in the restaurant. The concept was good, but they were, I believe, cooked at too low a temperature (dear hubbie thinks they weren't cooked long enough) and were a little soggy. But all in all, it was a delicious lunch. One of the cool things about Eureka (and there are many) is that local artists exhibit in many stores and restaurants, and the Bayfront is no exception. So while you're waiting for the food to cook and be served, you can marvel at the wonderful works on the walls if the sights in the bay aren't enough to entice you. We will be back. read more

Love this restaurant! Our family loves this place by far and is our go-to restaurant for celebrations. It's kind of hidden as I lived in eureka for 2 years without knowing of this hidden side of the bayfront. The rack of lamb on the tappanaki side is delicious! This is one of my FAVORITE places to enjoy Sushi and Tempanyaki here in Eureka, CA . The food is wonderful, presented beautifully and the atmosphere doesn't get any better. Located right off the boardwalk with large tall windows along the whole length of the front of the restaurant which overlooks Humboldt Bay. Enjoy great food at reasonable prices as you watch the fishing and sailboats glide through the water. This place... Well I have been to the tempenyaki tables twice. A lot of fun and can be a great date night, the food at the table is not anything too great but good and they will throw broccoli at you to catch in your mouth, so fun! I sat at the bar once and got a cheese plate and it was good, with a nice selection not seen in Humboldt. Now the bad part... I went to actually have table service, and honestly I am a forgiving customer as I have worked as a waitress for over ten years.... They sat us in between two large parties, yet the restaurant was empty. I understand seating people in one section, but it was loud and awkward being inches next to either table while no one else there. Then the nice hostess tried to sit us next to tiny table near the door and then we got a nice bar style table near a window. No big deal just annoying. Then we see the menu, very diverse with Japanese and Italian, but it was obvious with the table setting that they prefer the Japanese Restaurant... Not the bad part. The Italian menu is Ala carte, fine by me but make sure my entree is an entree. I ordered the halibut and the spinach salad. The salad was very cheap looking with my "egg" being not even a half an egg and the topping looking old ( dry slimy mushrooms) . The entree can out with just the halibut... No steamed veggies, no bed of spinach , no noodle no rice just fish on a large empty plate for 26$. I get that your trying to be "fancy" but nothing was satisfying and for the same price you can go to ANY other Restaurant in Humboldt and get fish, salad, and two sides. My suggestion is Plaza grill in Arcata ... Different ambiance, same price, better service, and a real meal. Service here was OK, and if I go back it will only be for the tempenyaki table. I have been to this restaurant when it was in the Ritz building, and it was ok. I get better Japanese food and sushi at the different restaurant in Eureka. That's why I don't go there. And I don't really care about teppanyaki much... This was the first time I went there after it moved into the new building, and I don't think I'll go back there again. It's clean and spacious inside. My friends tried teppanyaki, and I tried sushi. They said that food from teppanyaki was good, and sushi was good, I guess... I don't remember what I had because I was frustrated not getting service from our server. I ordered a beer when I got there, and it was almost gone when I got my food. However, she didn't ask if I wanted another one. After I finished my sushi, I had to look for her to order another beer. I have to waited for 10 minutes,then finally she showed up. After I ordered a beer, she gave me a check and the gratuity was already added to the check. It was 18% because we were a group of 10. I do tip more than 15% if my server is good. But, my server wasn't doing her job, and I had to pay 18% tip. I figured out that's why she didn't care about doing her job because she knew that she's getting good tip anyway!!! After getting upset about the service and tip, I just wanted to enjoy my beer. However, we were told to leave the table because the other people were waiting... Well, I could've finished it if my server was paying more attention!!! So, I had to move to the bar table to finish my drink. I was still waiting for the change from the server, so I asked the hostess about it. She quickly responded to my request and was really friendly too. The food and atmosphere were great and if it weren't for our waitress we would have give this a 4-5 star rating. While she was efficient, the waitress never smiled once, even seeming quite grumpy. I went there for lunch on a weekday around 2pm. There were 2 tables occupied so the restaurant wasn't busy. The service was horrible! We ordered 3 drinks which took about 10 minutes to get. One on the glasses of wine was only 3/4 full. The food was great but we never saw the waitress after it was served. My sister had to flag her down and make her stop at our table so we could order more sushi. We have eaten there many times and the service is never great. First off the location of this place is beautiful, right off the water great for sunsets. It did take awhile to get us to a table and I almost got ran over by 2 servers. The waitress we ended up with was very nice I was glad we got her and not some of the others whom thoughout our evening we noticed how poor their service to other guests was. The decor in the restaurant was strange and the menu seemed all over the place not sure what the thyme of this place really is. Probably the worst place I've ever eaten except one other that tied. No soup or salad with the entree. Meal was called Black & White Noodles. It had no seasoning and just a greasy sauce on it. Very good sushi, consistent with taste and size. The timing is a bit off when you order appetizers, it all ends up coming at once. Some of the tables are tiny, for someone who is going to have one roll but as a couple we have been seated at one of the small tables and it always feels like our food is going to fall off the table! We had planned on a nice steak dinner, but the restaurant down the street informed us they were closing early. Found this place on Yelp and we ended up enjoying a very nice meal. Although we had just had sushi the night before, the kids opted for that choice again. The rolls were HUGE!!! And absolutely delicious. My husband opted for spaghetti , it was good... But no bread (?) I had the lamb, slightly over cooked for "med rare" but not dry & still very good. Italian & sushi are an odd combination, and I really think bread should accompany the Italian meals but it was late and the server was so sweet I didn't want to bug her. I see from other reviews teppanyaki is an option, it wasn't mentioned when we were seated so maybe it was closed for the evening. read more
