Not a huge poke eater but I was feeling it today! So I tried out this spot and loved it. Like I said I don't eat it much but for me this is a place I would return. Staff is nice. Came here right after class. Ordered the large poke bowl which came with 4 scoops of fish. I asked for half brown rice/half salad base w/ spicy tuna, spicy salmon, scallops, shrimp, onions, and cucumbers. The sauces I picked were gochujang, spicy mayo, and spicy ponzu. For toppings I got seaweed salad, imitation crab, corn, mango, ginger, green onions, and furikake. Adding avocado was $1 extra. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh which was nice. Personally, I regret getting the spicy mayo sauce because it just made the poke bowl taste like every poke bowl I've had. It also drowned out the gochujang flavor. Gochujang isn't offered at most poke places so having it as an option was great! The spice level was pretty mild though, and I would have appreciated a spicier option. The workers were nice and accommodating. The environment was very clean, which is a great sign. Next, they have different types of sashimi like salmon, tuna, but also spicy tuna and spicy salmon which are my two favourites. There are also different toppings that you are able to choose and help to increase the number of servings of vegetables that you get within the bowl. After 9 months of avoiding raw fish while pregnant, I have had an understandably massive desire to make up my sushi/poke deficit since having the wee one. A friend of ours ordered us take out bowls from Bay Poke for a group of four, and my fishy desire was more than satisfied by my poke bowl! Bay Poke has an excellent selection of seafood, all of which was very fresh and moist. Generous, almost too big chunks of fish, even for the regular bowl. Huge assortment of toppings as well, and the option for add ones like avocado as well. Brown rice, white rice, and mixed greens available as the base options. What really impressed us was that the to go bowls were packaged with the rice and toppings/fish separately, so that the two different temperatures didn't mix and make a muddled mess. A regular bowl is just under $10 bucks and is a fresh and tasty seafood symphony - will definitely return as this is likely to be our new favorite poke place in the area! read more

Pretty good! It's been ages since I had poke, so I decided to give this neighborhood spot a try for takeout. I was excited that I could order via their website in the times of COVID, but the caveat there is you still have to pay onsite. Kind of defeats the purpose of using their website since you still have to make contact, but I guess it gives you time to really peruse the menu. The menu had a good mix of proteins, toppings, and sauces and I liked being able to mix and match everything. I ordered greens for base with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, green onion, jalapeno, seaweed salad, masago eggs, crispy garlic, crispy, onion, and furikake. I thought I ordered spicy ponzu but must've accidentally ordered spicy mayo (no bigs). This wasn't my favorite poke ever, but it was certainly satisfying (especially for these hot days). I do wish I'd known the jalapenos were pickled instead of fresh (I guess I would've seen that if ordering onsite though). My partner picked this up for us and had no issues there. I appreciate how they pack the bases separately from the poke so everything stays fresh. This ran us about $29 for two medium bowls before tip. Not the cheapest lunch you can get in Pasadena, but also pretty fair considering you're eating fresh seafood and a bunch of other goodies. It was my first time trying Bay Poke and my first impression was so-so. First thing I was frustrated with was the service. The employees are not the friendliest. They act completely annoyed no matter which one you speak with. Second was the portions of the fish. Although the bowls are large, I think the fish portions and scoops are super small compared to other poke places I've tried. There are lots of options to choose from and you get 5 scoops but the scoop portions are tiny. I would give them another chance but this is definitely not my go-to spot for poke. read more

We love Bay Poke. It's our guilty pleasure go-to for ordering in during the pandemic. The fish is fresh, the portions are generous, and the sauces and ingredients are delicious. And it's very reasonably priced. Last night, they delivered a bowl that was accidentally full of eel sauce. This was a rare mistake by a great restaurant. I called to inquire, and the shift lead Joseph was very apologetic, and immediately processed a refund. Bay Poke is one of my favorite poke spots in Pasadena, if not the greater San Gabriel Valley area. They definitely don't skimp on the portions here. The regular bowl comes with three scoops of fish while the large comes with five (!!!) and can easily be shared between two people. If you come here, I recommend choosing tamago (egg) as one of your proteins. Adding a non-seafood item to your bowl may not seem worth it, but the creaminess of the tamago complements any other fish quite nicely, in my opinion. Also, Bay Poke serves Dole whip! I don't think it's the same Dole whip of Disneyland fame, since the only two locations you can get that are at Disneyland (obviously) and at the Dole Plantation in Hawaii (according to one Disneyland employee, anyway). Still, it's a tasty treat and an added bonus on a hot SoCal summer day. It comes with 3 scoops of protein. I had albacore, salmon and spicy tuna. They have mandarin oranges here as their topping choices which I've never seen at other places. My total came out to be just under $13. Pricing is pretty good in my opinion. What I ordered here would have cost me about $15 elsewhere. My wife and daughter needed a quick bite that was near our house and this type of cuisine fit the bill for my daughter's tastes and recent interest in eating healthier. The two of them opted for the medium sized bowl which includes 3 scoops of protein while I ordered the large, which comes with a nice portion of 4 scoops of protein for $18.95. The protein selection is good, and I chose to order scallop, tofu, salmon, and tuna. I have a huge appetite and was concerned that I wouldn't get the calories in for a weight lifting workout at the gym following my visit here. However, I wasn't disappointed, and the portions for the rice, proteins, greens, and toppings were generous. It is certainly better than I remembered from my last visit. My only quibble was that the scallops seemed a little bland, as they felt like they were just boiled. It would have been really great if these were offered as a raw option, to give it a little more kick in terms of umami. Service is very friendly and helpful. The seating area both inside and outside is kept clean, which made for a pleasant dining experience. In the context of neighboring restaurants in Pasadena where it typically costs $20 or more per person to dine, this is a nice choice if you want a nutritious, filling lunch that doesn't break your wallet. One thing I love is that they don't charge extra for every additional topping which let's be honest those extra topping make your poke bowl that much better. I love the spicy tuna and spicy salmon. The food always tastes super fresh and they are so generous with the portions it's totally worth your buck. Their Thai tea is also amazing not too sweet but so tasty. Consistency is key, I live just up the street from this location where there are many other places and at that poke places to pick from. But for my household we choose Bay Poke. There's a greeting upon entering, there's a place for sanitizing and distance between you and the host placing your food order. I order three different meals for the family. A medium salad bowl for hubby, a medium brown rice bowl for me and a kid size rice bowl for my daughter. Which getting her to eat is sometimes trying. But going here she has her favorites such as we do and she eats it all, always asking for me! The food always taste good and if you want a little sweet I definitely recommend the dole whip. They're very generous with their toppings, so your bowl ends up looking pretty colorful. The mandarin oranges were a special option, and they added a punch of sweetness to the overall savory bowl.
