I shop here once a week. Mostly the food is brought in not grown at Baughers but thats okay. Locals know what's fresh. However. Berries here can go bad in a day. But the prices are less than roadside stands. Everything balances out, except one thing...they are just RUDE on occassion. You have to drudge up the hot hill with every plant or herb. You can't have the baskets your fruit was shown in. Someone must accompany you for the smallest purchase. Its very uninviting. To relive one of childhood memory of my favorite Aunt Lena whom had taken me there since a wee child, my travel buddies and I ventured out to Westminster and was just as I recalled! Our server Jessica was friendly and accommodating! First things first... the homemade straight from the oven rolls that my friend Melissa described as squishy, and that's a good thing! On to the main course, my son ordered the fried chicken which was lightly breaded and fried, which is also my all time favorite. He ordered corn fritters and apple fritters and my friend claims they taste like little apple pies. I ordered the same but had a banana nut salad to lighten up the meal which was also good choice! Melissa ordered the roast beef and gravy sandwich with fresh cut fries which she said was delicious and my dog Foxy would agree! While waiting for our check we had the pleasure of speaking to our busboy to him about his inspirations to become an actuary. Good luck with your studies! . We stopped here for dinner. The 40s retro combo was a pretty sound burger choice. The plate had plenty of fresh cut unsalted fries, the burger was moist and hot with fresh crisp veggies. We added bacon, it was crisp as well. The husband, who isn't keen on pickles, liked the sweet relish on the burger. The milkshake wasn't huge, but was more than enough to accompany the meal. Can't eat at the restaurant anymore,since I am allergic to gross FULL fly strips hanging over tables...& an army of fat flies flitting all around. However, I remain a fan of the Farm Stand. Their delicious No Sugar Added Apple Butter is the best. The in-season produce from their farm is more flavorful than any grocery offerings. The ice cream is always a delight. Their Snow Cone stand is a regular stop in the summer (ever tried the blueberry cream? Better than a creamsicle!!) Oh, and I love ordering pies at holiday times the pumpkin and apple are great. We availed ourselves of the annual Free Easter Egg hunt when the kids were younger. This is a local, family business, and they do a lot in the community. During a recent visit I found Baughers had renovated and decided to try it again. I got two eggs and scrapple with a side of cream chipped beef. This meal is everything I remember about growing up in Carroll County, somewhat bland and boring. I dig in and find the scrapple to be cooked perfectly and man is it tasty. The cream chipped beef is better than my mother's merely because the quality of the meat is above average. The coffee is not that good but I gulp it down with my meal none the less. This place is super cheap too! A meal for two for under $20. Service was friendly however it took awhile to get our food. We split a black raspberry milkshake and man did the favor memories start coming out. It's not the best ice cream but it sure is creamy. After tasting some of my wife's food, I'm beginning to think there are only a few edible things on the menu. Her poached eggs were horrible, the hash browns were cold and the bacon tasted strange and was probably microwaved. But like I said the chipped beef gravy, over easy eggs and scrapple are good eats at Baughers. read more

This Westminster staple is a nice stop while checking out the farm store or heading off to pick your own pumpkins or apples. If you are in the mood for homestyle cooking, this is the place to stop. Prices are inexpensive - I had to look at the prices twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating after our 3.5 hour hike. Even at 3 PM, the place was packed. Fresh pressed cider was sweet and farm fresh. We ordered the hot turkey sandwich with fries and gravy. The. sandwich was perfect, but the fries were pale and tasteless. I consider myself a fried chicken fan and the 2 piece chicken meal lacked seasoning plus the meat was dry eventhough it was too brown and overcooked. I was sad about the chicken, but I really thought they are right on with the cole slaw and potato salad. The pie list was impressive. They served a huge slice of chocolate cream pie - smooth, chocolatey and captured in a nice flaky crust. I'd come back for homestyle pies. read more

If you want good, old-fashioned country cooking that will remind you of family gatherings at Grandma's house, then Baugher's is the place to go! I've been going here for a couple of years now and it never disappoints. On Sundays they have a Roast Turkey and Dressing platter that is killer. You can order it with all white meat or a mix of white and dark, and it tastes like Thanksgiving all year round. The corn fritters are good, and their homemade Blue Cheese dressing is fantastic. They have desserts that are made from scratch and really good as well. I've had the Apple Dumpling and the Crumb-topped Apple pie...both excellent. The decor of the restaurant isn't modern by any means, but the place is always clean. The staff is friendly and the service is always quick, even when the restaurant is busy. There is a market attached to the restaurant where they sell all kinds of their baked goods, homemade apple sauce, and a good variety of fresh produce. After dinner I always hit the market and pick up some farm fresh fruits and veggies. This spot is the epitome of a country local restaurant. At least it seemed that way to a visitor such as myself. The servers were very knowledgeable about all the dishes and everything on the menu is just good old country food. I had the turkey sandwich with gravy.... wow... it was incredible. Of course I probably gained five pounds from the amount of gravy that was slathered all over my plate, but that's irrelevant to how good it was. Oh, and the warm apple cider.... delicious. My family and I have gone to this restaurant for years! We've had many good times there, thanks to a church friend who recommended it to us years ago. The food is what I call country cooking and it's both wholesome and plentiful. I love the Turkey Dinner offered every Sunday, but today I had the Roast Beef with green beans and mashed potatoes. It was all fresh and delicious as were the homemade yeast rolls. Always save room for the delicious fruit pies that are made of fruit grown on their own farm. Our experience was a disappointment. We were seated in the back, which seems to be an addition. It was bad enough that the back room looked like a run down, nursing home cafeteria but it smelled like port-a-potty chemicals. The service was absolutely acceptable. No qualms with that. I have two issues with the fried chicken that everyone is waxing and waning about. Granted the menu warns you the fried chicken is fried-to-order and as such takes extra time (20 min maybe?). But we're going there at a super busy time. Why do they wait to receive an order of fried chicken to fry it? Sounds like they need to rethink that. Great concept when you're not churning it out. It was a bad choice on our part because we had a young kid with us and that longer wait for the food was a killer. Besides, it wasn't really all that. It was fresh. Yes. But it wasn't super flavorful. I had the hot roast beef/gravy sandwich and it was what you'd expect. Nothing special about it. And no, we didn't get dessert. I know, we should have but we didn't and that's that but I was kind of done with the odor and the dingy surroundings. We felt very much like the unwanted stepchild in that back room and it didn't encourage us to want to stick around for dessert. If you grew up in Westminster you know all about Baughers. As a child I would eat here at least once a week usually on Sundays with my grandparents. Now that I'm an adult and live in another state its harder to get to Baughers but when I do it never disappoints. On Sundays they have there roast turkey platter. Its like a Thanksgiving dinner anytime. You can choose between dark meat, white meat or a mix of both. I always get the mix. It also comes with two sides. My side selections are always the same, corn fritters and mac and cheese even though they have a bunch of everyday sides and some daily specials. I also order a side salad with bleu cheese dressing. The dressing is homemade with small chucks of blue cheese. The prices are fair and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a country restaurant that has been around for as long as I could remember. Depending the time of day you go you could be waiting in a line that can stretch out the door and into the parking lot. The service is fast and very friendly. After your meal you can walk next door to there market. Fresh fruit(in season) and vegetables right from there orchard. Fresh breads and other pastries too. Baughers is the best local place for good old fashioned home cooking at a low price. Sometimes I tip the waitresses as much as my meal is because it is so reasonable. You can have Thanksgiving Dinner every Sunday. Fresh fried chicken any day of the week. Homemade pies and ice cream... they got it! Plus, the have a farmers market attached to the restaurant, so you can take hone fresh fruits and veggies with you. Most of their soups are actually made from scratch. Their gravy is also made from the animal broth of the meats they actually cook on site. Fresh cut potatoes, and the mashed potatoes actually come from real potatoes peeled and eyed in the kitchen. When she told the man he got really rude and said she wasnt talking plainly. He just walked away and dropped the ice cream. This is the worst service I have had in a long time. Atmosphere: small country cooking type place with a real genuine feeling, it is most of the times seat yourself which is nice because you can pick booth or table. There are also high stools in front of their ice cream that you can sit at as well, reminds me of the 1950's. Food: breakfast is the best there, it is definitely a must! I love their cream chipped beef, pancakes and French toast. For dinners and lunches I would recommend their hot turkey sandwich or their 1050's combo of a burger, milkshake (with your choice of ice cream) and freshly cut fries. Overall I would go here for home country cooking. Service: is pretty good, the waiters and waitresses have personality which is always good, service is very fast as well a wait time for food for 4 people was maybe 20 minuets. When we arrived at 7pm we noticed the parking lot was packed, always a good sign. But in this case it was more about the locals on a Friday night than about the food. I asked about the house speciality. Fried chicken I was told, I added apple fritters to the plate. The apple fritters were pleasant but the chicken however moist, had no flavor and you just wanted to get up and go to the kitchen to tell them to clean the fryer. However the ribeye though tasteless was tender, the sides, applesauce, potato salad and mashed potatoes were average and what you would expect from a diner. All in all, you have plenty of choices on the menu, sides come with everything, good price but average diner food. read more

My wife and I were rather unpleasantly surprised by this place, especially since it had been recommended to us by several locals. Yeah, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for. You would think that a restaurant owned by the same family who owns a huge farm stand and PYO fruit operation just a few miles up the road would use some of the fruits and veggies they grow on their farm in their food, right? Wrong. Most of the veggies we got were clearly canned. I ordered pork chops and they were quite dried out. My wife is vegetarian and told me that a lot of the stuff she ordered tasted like it had been cooked in or with meat (fine if you're an omnivore like me but not good for a vegetarian). The service was not great either. The moral of the story? Skip the restaurant, drive up 140 to their farm stand/orchard, pick your own fruits and veggies, and make your own dinner with them at home. read more

Buggers orchard, restaurant and everything in between. They are a small farm friendly diner. The atmosphere takes you back a bit and the prices do too. Chipped beef is less than 5.00 and it is delicouse! If I make it early enough(before 11:00 I think) they still offer certain breakfast items such as the chipped beef. Yum. The fruit in season is also a must. The Sundays are made with homemade ice cream and fruit from the orchard. I always go to the outside retail side to get veggies and fruit. Sometimes I get the second grade fruit, much cheaper but requires some work. I pick through and freeze what I can for smoothies or freezer worthy food. Go to the orchard and pick your own fruit, take your kids and go on the hay ride. It's definitely something you'll remember and enjoy. read more

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. The place has its ups and downs. It is what it is. A local country restaurant. The food is delicious. My favorites are the hot roast beef and the hot turkey. Their French fries are delicious. Their rolls are addictive. Piping hot with butter. You will fight over them for sure. Before I went here, I thought some of the reviews were so bad they were bordering on offensive. Unfortunately, they were kind of right. I'm not above eating at lower class food establishments, but, the caveat there is that they must serve decent, and at the very least, edible food. And, the place needs to be clean. My fiance and I came here a while ago, and I'm pretty sure he still hasn't forgiven me for making him eat here. It looked like it had seen way better days. I got a stack of blueberry pancakes, and the waitress brought out two, said the third was still cooking, and my first two were cold and the third that was still cooking was also cold. My fiance got the bbq beef sandwich, which was ground meat swimming in bbq sauce on white bread. The corn fritters and apple fritters (more nugget-like that fritter-like) were the saving grace. The bathroom was also surprisingly clean.
