If you want a "just average" eating experience you should skip Rock Salt. It was fantastic. But, get there early, make a reservation, or be prepared to wait. My brother and I wanted something for lunch after going to a car swap meet. We landed on Rock Salt Grille. I'd eaten there several times before. We arrived at 11:45 AM (Saturday) and there was a 30 minute wait, so we grabbed two comfortable seats at the bar. A good call. I had the Rock Salt Oysters, broiled with bacon and parmigiana. Delightful. I also had the cream of, and Maryland crab, soup combination. My brother had the crab cake sandwich. I'd had it before, but wanted the oysters. His crab cake sandwich was double the size of any I'd ever seen, without exaggeration. He guessed it was 8 ounces or more, without exaggeration, with no visible filler, (Broiled). I had a few beers and we split the Bread pudding with Grand Marnier sauce. It was enough for four. The bar and food service was spectacular with "tag teaming" to make sure we didn't wait for anything. I'd like to thank the bartenders who served us perfectly: Kelsey and Nikkea. Award winners. They legit served me a burger with a ramekin of French onion soup as a dipping sauce. I just about smacked myself for never thinking of this genius activity. Rock Salt has been on my list for a couple years, but it was always hard to get a table when I wanted one (holidays, usually). We called ahead and reserved a table of 8 for my birthday. They do not take online reservations but do accept them via phone for parties of 6. You'll receive confirmation via text. The menu is a seafood lover's dream. Make sure you scan it before you visit. Otherwise it will prove impossible to choose just one entree. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. I ordered old bay friend green tomatoes, which were topped with cherry tomatoes and jumbo lump crab meat. When I tell you this was the best bite I've had this year, I mean it. WOW!! Incredible flavor, crunch, the tomatoes weren't cut too thin or thick, and the crab pushed it over the top. For my entree, I ordered steak and cake. The serving sizes are huge so don't even try to finish - just ask for a to-go tray at the onset. The steak wasn't seasoned very well, but a little steak sauce helped. Not sure I would order it again but I did come for the seafood, which did not disappoint. The 10 oz jumbo lump crab cake will last you for a couple meals. A dash of old bay would have make it a perfect 10. I was given the flourless chocolate cake for my birthday treat. Nothing spectacular but the plating was pretty and appreciated. The restaurant was modest in decoration and has a nice size bar, and an outdoor patio with a bar. We started off with complimentary rolls that were warm, fluffy, and honestly on the same level as Texas Roadhouse -- seriously, so good. The calamari was another standout -- perfectly cooked with just the right crisp. I tried the rockfish bites, which weren't my favorite, but my dad absolutely loved them. The indoor bar area is small but nice. The food is great from the seafood to the steaks. The raw bar if always fresh and the salads are amazing. The menu can be pricey but well worth it. On 11.09.25 (Sunday), dined in and arrived @ 6:15 pm. The restaurant was almost at capacity. There were four of us and we were seated immediately in the back. Two of us ordered the stuffed rockfish which both said was delicious and there were no problems with the dish. Did have a problem with a photo so that is why you don't see one below. The old bay wings were cooked perfectly. The dressing was extremely good and the celery was the best I have ever had. It was light and crispy. I normally don't eat celery, but this was incredible. I was impressed. The double crab cake dinner was perfect, along with the green beans and baked potato. The lobster and filet mignon were cooked well and to order. The accompanying green beans and baked potato were also perfect. The waiter was prompt, polite and accommodating. We were checked on by the hostess, and the general manager was seen monitoring the restaurant. The ambiance was excellent. The restaurant was noisy, but this is to be expected since the restaurant was almost at capacity. I only saw one table for two that was empty. Today is my husband's birthday. We just played 18 holes on a beautiful Maryland golf course and I wanted to find a restaurant that featured Maryland crab - nailed it!!! Monica was our server. She told us "Maryland has the sweetest crab and the best crab cakes - and we make the best crab cakes in Maryland!" Husband had the Cream of Crab soup - a chunk of crab in every bite! And the crab cake "lunch" plate which was one huge crab cake (ALL crab - didn't have, didn't need any stuffing!) along with their fabulous cranberry coleslaw and perfectly cooked green beans. This was my fourth time dining here in the last 12 months. This restaurant never disappoints. My wife and I met two friends from Rhode Island here Monday for a reunion luncheon visit. The Calamari portion was generous and delicious. Enough for all four of us for an appetizer. I also ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell as an appetizer. They were the Sand Dunes oysters from Prince Edward Island...... and they were fresh and delicious. This restaurant has an incredible raw bar oyster list see photos. One of us had the crab imperial luncheon plate. and said it was delicious. Three of us had a luncheon special of blackened grouper with shrimp and that was also outstanding. The portions are very large, which makes it difficult to have room for a dessert. So we all shared a piece of Keylime pie with four forks... It was very good. The service by our waiter was very efficient and prompt. This is a very popular restaurant and even on a Monday it soon filled up for lunch. There was a festival going on so street parking was a little tight they also have a lot for parking up the street. Rock Salt grille has been a favorite for years. My late husband and I went there with friends a few times a year for many years, even though it was a 45 minute drive. He loved the oysters and I loved the crab. I went there yesterday with the same friends to toast my late husband. I ordered the cream of crab soup, as always, and the oyster basket in his memory. When I took the first spoonful of soup, I knew something was wrong. It was very salty, and when I stirred it, instead of finding the usual clumps of crabmeat, there were just a few strands. And the oyster basket... Well .. The fries were chewy and tough. And the oysters, once I cut through the heavy and dry coating, I found a very tiny oyster. I found this place on Yelp. Would you believe this is the only place with high ratings in this area? 100% earned, and now, I fully understand why. One of my all-time favorite restaurants in the greater Washington-Baltimore Metropolitan area. What can I say? The food is fresh, high quality, original and has that country delicious state to it from the seafood to the meat and vegetables. The salmon BLT is scrumptious and mouthwatering. The roasted Brussels sprouts are grilled to perfection. (I don't believe anything is perfect, but somethings are darn near close.) I have not had the carrots as a side dish, but they always look freshly grown from Carroll County farms and are radiant and earthy. You cannot go wrong with the many salads, sandwiches, wraps, entre items among others here. The menus is expansive enough without being overwhelming and confusing to the general populace. The portion sizes are nice for the amount of money spent and reminds me of Southern destinations such as New Orleans and Memphis for the bang for the buck, tasty, well-seasoned, large portion sizes of food without breaking the bank like one would venturing to those bougie white table cloth restaurants in DC providing you a small yet expensive portion size that the anorexic community would die for! The customer service is what separates this place from many others. The friendly, warm, small-town charm, rural, country politeness, kindness, patience, and dedication from the waitstaff, kitchen, bussers, and management are noteworthy and very commendable in a world where there is a struggle with consistent top-tier customer service. The staff is likeable and memorable. You even will remember servers by name. The small-town charm is there. The ambiance and interior designing are modern, sleek, inviting, and has natural charm, simple yet elegant but not too gaudy or too ole timey. I like the modern curb appeal with the design and feel of the restaurant from the walls, tables, booths, wall ornaments etc. Nothing is a bigger turn off than a restaurant with hideous, ugly big ole pictures on the wall from the stone age or 1800s just yuck! Modern art rules! Ole timey drools! Leadership is interactive and comes to tables and cares about the experience and the aura that clientele is having which is a pro to the restaurant. They are courteous, genuinely nice, empathetic, and believe in providing you the best service. Leadership does a bang-up job just awesome and consistent. People such as I visit the Rock Salt Grille from other counties such as Prince Georges (PG) and Montgomery County, as the food is worth the commute time whenever one has spare time. Sure, I can cook from home a lot, but the ambiance, peacefulness, rural charm, and Southern hospitality culture of the Westminster dining scene is worth the road trip occasionally from the DMV and Baltimore communities. The rural landscape in and around Westminster itself is a breath of fresh air from the fast paced, stressful, anxiety induced culture of DC and its immediate suburbs. This is like a mini getaway without travelling too long distance, nice for day trips. I am glad to have discovered this hidden gem. The mom and pops certainly beat the chains closer in the DC. I grew up on chains nothing wrong with them, but the fresh quality, original ingredients and stellar mom and pop customer service experience here are outstanding and noteworthy. read more

There was hardly any orange flavor at all. It tasted like they used orange seltzer water or something instead of orange juice. My boyfriend ordered one as well and his was the same. I wanted another drink but knew I definitely wasn't going to get a crush again. The sangria was a special for that day and I enjoyed it a lot more. The friends I came with raved about the seafood skins, so we got some of those to share. Again, I wasn't super impressed. They were decent, but I thought they could have used more of the seafood filling. I had the mahi mahi tacos as my entree, which I thought were bland. The cilantro slaw it came with was mostly kale or some other leafy green, which I felt was too tough to chew as a slaw on a taco. Everyone else was pleased with the food they got, which included a fried shrimp basket, seafood club, and one of their salads. Nothing I had was horrible - it wasn't so bad I felt I had to send it back, but it really was such an average experience, I have to only give three stars. Good food, way too busy. We had a Saturday early dinner a few weeks ago at Rock Salt Grille. I don't think reservations were an option, so we went early at 4:30ish, and we still waited a long time in the little anteroom. When we finally got in, we were given a marginal table (as we'd said first available), a high 4-top in the bar just inside the door, in a constant cold breeze from the opening front door. The rest of the bar was full of folks watching the games. Monica, our server, was friendly and efficient and knew it was a difficult spot, but the place was just packed. Our friends had been but we hadn't. We had a drink, then dove in, with a pretty good cream of crab soup and some very tasty rockfish bites, plentiful and with an irresistible Old Bay ranch dip. Then my bride had the mahi mahi tacos and I had the enormous seafood club. This towering sandwich, including a crab cake, bacon, and lots of shrimp salad, was very good, if logistically difficult to eat. It came with good fries alongside. We still managed (many leftovers were boxed) to try some desserts, including a good red velvet Smith Island cake and peanut butter "bomb". With a round of drinks, apps, and desserts, we ended up around $50 per couple before tip. We enjoyed the food and the service, and would try again, though not on such a busy day. read more
