Our party of 3 arrived at 4:10 last night a Saturday evening. We did have to wait 10 minutes as the hostess stated a table was currently paying their check and they would get the table cleaned as soon as possible. As we were being led to our table I noticed many empty tables and 4 empty booths. I asked if we could get a booth rather than the table but she said no as they were reserved..okay. We had MD crab, cream of crab, and scallops wrapped in bacon for appetizer. All excellent! My soft crab sandwich and side of onion rings all cooked to perfection. My friends had shrimp and grits and stuffed rockfish, both meals exquisite. For dessert lemon tart and the chocolate peanut butter cake. Yum, the only thing that could have made that better was a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Kudos for using a local company for their desserts, Bertuccos Bakery and giving them credit on the menu. Love it, supporting other Carroll County businesses. To top of the entire evening we had Blake as our server, the absolute % best. From the introduction, use of beverage napkins under our drinks, clearing of dirty dishes, and to the dry humor he engaged us with us throughout the evening. Thank you! In today's society many servers are handing me my bill before I even finish my meal and dont bother to clear away dirty dishes. What a pleasant evening out with friends with great food and quality service. We left by 530pm and the entire time we were there, at least 3 booths and a couple of tables were consistently vacant. Your hostesses need to work a little better at seating people without long wait times. The couple behind us were told a 45 minute wait. This is not our first time at Maryland Mallet and have been turned away at 4pm on a Saturday before due to no seating available because of reservations. OK!!!! my second time around I ordered jumbo crabs maybe 2 out the dozen where actually jumbo but Heather was the worst server ever!!! because i ordered at 12 noon to guarantee my jumbo crabs . I was told by Heather " the next time don't order from carryout to eat over HERE!!" and was treated horribly once i arrived . She placed paper for me to eat my crabs served me one blue moon and never returned with a crab bucket !! It took a while before we got waited on. The guy that was behind the bar waited on a couple that came in after we did. As soon as the other couple came in and sat down he went right by me and the person I was with to help the other couple. I also felt that I was looked down upon because of the way I was dressed, and because we were a black-and-white couple coming in. The good was when we did get waited on the waitress was real nice. So we ordered drinks and our appetizer together and we all ordered the cream of crab soup 5 orders and only 3 came out. I personally did not care for it the crab meat was like grind no lump of meat. Just was not a fan . Crab dip was just ok ordered two dozen of xlg which were very good. Stuffed mushrooms were very good. We arrived this past Sat. at 3:30 and were told for our party of 3 that there were "reservations" scheduled and we wouldn't be seated till 5 unless we wanted to eat downstairs in the pub. We planned to eat and be out within an hour and when we were told we "have" to eat downstairs at the pub. Very POOR planning on your part as this is NOT the 1st time and I've heard this MANY times from other friends that have done the same thing. I counted 11 empty tables on my way downstairs and my sons and I had to sit with a rowdy group of people who were drinking and very loud and I had to explain to them how NOT to behave like them along with why we had to sit downstairs b/c you guys were too "busy" to seat us for an hour, b/c as we left at 4:30, THE UPSTAIRS was STILL EMPTY and we saw one group of prom students and being a mother for my Mother's day dinner, we chose your restaurant in the middle of the day knowing it wouldn't be busy, but I promise everyone I know will not be coming there if this is how you "Plan" your customers to be pushed away, your loss of $$$$ since I will take my business to other nicer restaurants and I own a business so my clients will hear about this pathetic way to "serve" Carroll County. read more

Had a great meal Saturday afternoon. Our server was doing triple duty at the service bar main bar and tables and still kept us taken care of. Appetizers were great. Smoked wings were really tasty. I have 3 main complaints. When they tell you the platter comes with "chips " they should tell you the chips are nasty BBQ kettle cooked chips. The "crab soup" is actually vegetable soup with NOT a speck of crab meat in sight, this is NOT crab soup, it is NOT cheap either. Let's start with the food, outstanding! There were 4 of us, we had the stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped bourbon scallops, smoke beef platter and the pork sriracha tacos. There was absolutely nothing wrong with anything. There was so much oohing and aaahing going on, I don't believe many other words were spoken. Brian was our server, and was very knowledgeable on all items on the menu. He was always right there when we needed refills or anything at all. My only complaint is if you go into the ladies room, don't take your purse because the stall I was in did not have a purse hanger. My wife and I shared a double crab cake that was one of the better crab cakes. It came on two plates with the sides also split. Our waitress, Shelby,was very attentive to our needs. We tried this restaurant because we were near the area at the time for dinner. We ordered the fried shrimp platter, shrimp salad wrap and ribs with a peach crush. Everything was fresh and delicious! Made a reservation here for a date night. The staff was very friendly and over the phone told me they were having a crab shortage and didn't know if their shipment would be in by the time we arrived. I stated it was fine and we would order something else. Their menu was full of options and all the food looked delicious! We were promptly taken to our seats and the food came out quickly! What ended up making this a 5 star experience, was the fact that during our meal they saved a dozen crabs for us just in case we wanted them since their shipment hadn't come in. Stopped by here on our way home from PA on a whim and we were very pleasantly surprised. First of all the service was great, our server Adam was awesome, very friendly and on top of everything. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. It was nice to see so many smiles and no workers looking at their phones. The food was absolutely delicious and the prices very reasonable. I had the 1/2 rack of smokehouse rib special, gave half my ribs to my husband and still couldn't quite finish my half. Fries were served hot and seasoned perfectly and even the coleslaw was good. My husband enjoyed his smokehouse quesadillas, he said they were delicious. We shared steamed shrimp that was steamed perfectly and served with onions. We had way too much food and had to take some home. I highly recommend this place and hope to be back someday, although it's a bit of a drive for us. Definitely a great place to eat. read more

First off....service was great. Now, the food was a different story. Soup of the day was French Onion. I suppose the chef doesn't taste his cooking. Sweet brown water with no onions and melted cheese on the top doesn't measure up. Sent that back. Our meals came, and while my shrimp were great, 1 bite into the crab ball, and I had to politely dispose of it in my napkin. It was VERY spoiled crab meat. I'm not sure who you have cooking, but that should have NEVER passed a nose test to even make it to the fryer!! The server was apologetic, and the manager was more than accommodating. The food is good with the exception of the crabs. We ordered 3 dozen large and at least 1 dozen would be considered small elsewhere. Additionally, at least 8 of the crabs were mushy and unedible. I always give a pass for a bad experience before writing negative reviews, but this is the second bad experience with crabs this year. They are a least one to two sizes less than what you would get elsewhere. The other food is good, but stay away from the steamed crabs!!! read more

We had an excellent lunch here! Got a dozen XL crabs that were seasoned perfectly and heavy. Apple Cider Crush was ridiculously delicious Stuffed mushrooms were absolutely delicious and so were the fried green tomatoes. My daughter got the cream of crab soup and Caesar Salad both of which she finished and loved. My Mom got the Captains Platter and was very pleased with everything. Only been in their Smokehouse Pub in back, not the dinning room in front. Bartenders have all been friendly, attentive and willing to chat. Huge selection of bourbons. Actually have some bourbons I've seen but not tried yet. Spicy Beer Mussels - Interesting. They beer sautéed mussels and put jalapeños on them, which I somewhat expected. However, they also put sautéed red peppers and onions (like you get on an Italian sausage) on them to, which I've never seen. The taste of the red peppers and onions over powered all other flavors, so that's all you taste. When I did find some that were not touched by the peppers and onions, the garlic beer taste of mussels was good and the heat pared well with it. May try to order without the red peppers and onions and see how they are. Blackened Mahi Club Sandwich - Blackened Mahi, lettuce, tomato, and bacon on a keiser roll. Blackened Mahi was cooked perfectly and seasoning balanced and flavorful. However,  though the sandwich was good, it needs a pop of something more to play off the other flavors. Maybe something like a lime aioli or Peurto Rican fry sauce. Fried Haddock Plater - A great example of what fish and chips should be. Light crispy flavorful batter, coating large filets of delicious perfectly cooked haddock with seasoned boardwalk style fries that are themselves delicious. Both delicious in their own rite but crave worthy when together. Served with a well balanced tartar sauce or malt vinegar upon request. The not needed by any means, both are great on the haddock. Crab Dip - Creamy crab dip full of crab. Topped with melted cheddar, dusting of old bay and a piece of jumbo lump. Served with bread rounds. Tastes just like my own recipe I've been making for the last 20+ years. Only place so far to equal it. AKA that means it is AWESOME!! Chesapeake Bay Fries - Delicious seasoned boardwalk fries topped with Amazing crab dip. Soooooo good. read more

The food was ok but the service was horrendous. The bartender was too busy talking at the bar instead of tending to the tables . We had to keep asking other servers for drinks and food items . The other issue was that we had a 13 month old and they would put us in the dining room. We sat on the bar side . When we asked to sit on the dining room side we were told cause it wasn't that person's time in the rotation even though there were tons of tables open on that side. This review is a little late but, let me just say they have amazing crabs! We were lucky enough to get the jumbo crabs when we visited from Las Vegas! Always a fun Friday evening at the Mallet downstairs bar! Great drinks, food, and bartenders. Interesting mix of people and entertainment.

I had the single crab cake entree and an order of the old bay wings. The wings were okay. Not the best. The wings also came out five minutes prior to when my entree came out, so I wasn't able to finish my entree. The crab cake was delicious and the mashed potatoes were as well. Brussel sprouts were ok as well. The menu didn't have any specification of what sides came with the crab cake; if I had known, I would have substituted for something else. It was also very pricey for the area it is located. I do like the overall layout of the restaurant. Very spacious, and it seems busy often. First let me start by saying I'm not to familiar with Westminster, so my date chose Maryland Mallet because she's always wanted to try their food. With that being said, I'm glad she did because it was a great selection. Love the massive fish tank at the host station. Very welcoming, and super friendly staff. We had a small wait time, but it was worth it. Once seated our server was very prompt, alert, and attentive. Not to mention she was very friendly and full of energy! The dining area was great! Very spacious, clean, bright, and it's awesome to see they stuck to the theme. The tables all have a pretty sweet MD flag skin. The food was a pleasant surprised! Didn't know what to expect because the menu had everything from steamed crabs, stuffed salmon, wings, to pit beef/turkey/ham. The ribs and crabcakes looked tasty (noticed them as they took them to surrounding tables). I'm pretty sure you'll find something on their menu to enjoy. Really wish I could have ordered everything just to try it. Guess I'll have to visit again. Also loved the portions, they definitely give you enough to fill you up. Lastly, I didn't realize they had a Pub downstairs. Kind of caught my by surprise because the bar on the main floor looks well stocked and welcoming. May have to check out the Pub in the future. Except.........the past two times I was there, last year, I ordered soft shell crab sandwich both times, and both times I got a soft shell crab WITHOUT THE LEGS AND CLAWS!!!! These were a first for me....never in my life have I gotten soft shell crab without these! I ordered soft shell crab not soft shell crab body!! I feel like I didn't get what I was paying for! What a pleasant surprise! I drive by this establishment daily and I've been watching reviews as they have "worked out the kinks" over the last six months or so. I visited with close friends over the weekend. I'm so glad I did. The had the remainder of a holiday local beer they had on tap. We were glad to partake. Additionally, one person in my portly had a mixed drink special. Also well done. Now for the food. The Old Bay wings were spot on. Not old frozen wings. Real deal here. We also had the crab dip appetizer. They bring 4 LOAVES of bread! Wow! The dip, being mid winter and out of season was decent. Not quite the "Dutch's Daughter' standard I hold all dios to but very good for local crab dip. Lastly the B-More quesadilla was a great signature-type appetizer. Full of shrimp and fresh tomato salsa. Not canned! Go visit the tavern below as well. Upstairs is a casual restaurant and bottom is the tavern. They seem to serve the same dishes in both places. We came to MM based on a recommendation from a friend. We liked it so much that we have been back almost a half a dozen times since (and brought others with us). The food is always exceptional and the staff is very friendly and focused on making your experience a good one! Much better than expected!!!! Much more stylish than the Gary and Dell's I remembered from the past. Service was phenomenal, and food was better than I could have imagined. The crabs were seasoned perfectly, fresh, and were the best I've had in years! Hands down! The jumbo steamed shrimp were HUGE! Chesapeake Fries.... oh my... mmmmm.... so good. The only thing negative that I have to say is about the upstairs bathroom stall doors. They could use updating. They reminded me of the doors from an old Western movie. At first we were disappointed because they don't have all you can eat on the weekends, but we actually spent less for three of us and was full on a dozen Large crabs, a pound of steamed shrimp, and the Chesapeake Fries.
