New Basta location in Thousand Oaks is a solid 4.5 stars but rounding them up to 5 stars. I love the interior and design here, friendly staff, strong cocktails and delicious food. What's not to love? I was already a fan of the Basta Agoura location but was even more excited to learn that a second location closer to home would be popping up. Initially I came for their grand opening night and was happy to sample some of their small bites and to chat with the owner. We had such a good experience I was eager to get back here. Thankfully I have girlfriends who are always down to have foodie adventures so we came last weekend and had a great experience. The staff and service here is truly grand. Everyone is so nice, accommodating, friendly and welcoming. Our hostess was kind and let us pick our table and was even more understanding when the sun started to get in our eyes to allow us to pick another table. Our waiter was fun and lively, creating a nice environment for a girls night. I would say service was attentive and well paced. The owner always seems to be here and he's just a lovely guy. Always friendly and eager to hear about your experience, you can tell customer service here is big. I really dig their cocktail menu here. It's a best kept secret for now. Their cocktails can definitely compete with some of my favorite bars. I started with a berry whiskey sour and it was to die for. I am a whiskey girl but also love sweet cocktails - the way that they were able to craft a cocktail that mirrored both flavor profiles so well was awesome. I ended the night with their Basta Margarita and this is another must have. Love the aperol and the rim was perfectly salted. I'd honestly come back here just for some cocktails at the bar because 5/5 for sure in the cocktail department. For mains my entire table went with a different variety of pastas. I opted for something simple but mighty, the tagliatelle pasta with meatballs. Out of the three of us my dish unfortunately scored the lowest. The issue was my pasta was a bit undercooked. I had everyone at my table try it and they all agreed. I was encouraged to send it back and I know if I would have they would have handled it right BUT there is no worse feeling then sending a dish back while everyone eats without you or your table feels stuck waiting for your food. I wanted to avoid all of that so I kept the dish. It was edible but just not preferred. Had the pasta been cooked correctly it would have been a 5/5. As it was before me, like a 3.75/5. The sauce was simple and delicious. And the meatballs outstanding. Despite my dish not being perfect I could taste the potential and it was still enjoyable. My friends both really liked their dishes so I think the pasta will always be a good choice. Next time I'll try something else but happy to see they have a good amount of options. Overall Basta is the perfect restaurant for this space. It's elevated Italian dining but still has that soulful rustic charm. It's a feel good vibe here. Casual enough for a friends and family outing, but definitely nice enough for a celebration or date night. They've done a good job with their second location and I'm happy to come back soon because this cocktails are killer and there were some tasty appetizers calling my name for next time. read more

I enjoyed our visit here for the first time in TO. I usually go to Agoura. I loved everything although it looks like they're still working out logistics. The food itself was the same amazing experience. We had their burrata salad , Branzino and blueberry cobbler. All were terrific. We also tried their 2 item cheese appetizer. Once I had their artisan bread with apricot honey, it was over, delightful!! I also had their Pisco Sour and took me awhile to overlook the blue hue. We were looking for a place to have a late lunch after visiting the Reagan Library and Yelped the area and found this place. Solid choice. The food was well prepared. Nothing was over-seasoned and the fish was very good. We began with the mussels and they were an excellent starter. Lots of broth that was really good with some salted bread. I'd recommend stripping the marrow and spreading it on the toast points. The mussels themselves were very plump and hearty. Cold day lunch for sure. We followed it up with the octopus salad and enjoyed that as well. Fresh and the dressing was light enough not to overpower the octopus. We finished with the whole branzino and it was seasoned wonderfully and cooked great. She really liked her Bellini and my iced tea was always full. Our hipster server was a man of few words but timed our courses just right. If you don't know the area and are looking for a well put together place for lunch, this is it. Wanted to try the new Basta in Thousand Oaks and went early before a concert there in town. Glad we went early at 5:00pm because they do not take reservations and what a pleasurable experience. There was not a wait and we were seated immediately upon walking in by a smiling happy staff member. Great room with a totally visible kitchen and full bar. Our server was great and happily told us the specials and took our order. The menu offered many choices and had a good wine list by the glass or bottle. The food came out hot and delicious and did not disappoint, I did notice while we were enjoying our meals that the dining room was filling up fast as well as the seating at the bar. They do offer seating outside for al fresco dining with heaters but it was rather chilly outside. My wife and I decided to try something new and visited Basta. This high-end restaurant serves genuine Italian cuisine with excellent service, very good food and pretty steep prices. This facility has a nice streetside outdoor dining area, which is dog-friendly. The parking is limited, but the ambiance is very good. Our waitress was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and was actually Italian, so she could decipher everything on the menu for us. We ordered a seafood dish and a ravioli plate, along with a fried pizza appetizer, dessert and coffee. The portions were perfect, the flavor and quality was exceptional and the overall experience was very good. The only weird thing that happened was that they give you these little table lamps at your table. They're very helpful. However before we were finished, they took ours away, so we were left in the dark. It was unusual to be sitting there at a dark table, while all of the other patrons around us had their cute little lights. If it wasn't so amusing, it might be something to complain about. The friend pizza appetizer was recommended but not that great. Basically deli meat and cheese, served with fried bread. However the tiramisu and butterscotch pudding were incredible. We walk in for my birthday, and the first thing I notice is how loud the place is. Did not expect it to be popular, but the layout was nice. It felt more closed in at the booth, so we couldn't hear other conventions. I got pasta, and the service was quite fast. My food came almost immediately . Our server was friendly and offered recommendations on what to order. We ended up with the meatballs, a salad and the mushroom pizza. Our food arrived quickly, especially loved the Cavolo Toscano salad! By far the best part of the meal was the Butterscotch pudding, so rich and flavorful and could definitely be shared among 3+. The entire staff took such great care of us last night, especially Jackie, our waitress. All were so welcoming. We started with the Basta Margarita and the Shequila cucumber margarita and both were excellent. Presented beautifully, I love a cute coupe glass. The Basta gem salad is meant to be shared. It is quite large and my favorite part was little pieces of sliced asparagus in the salad. It could even be shared by more than two people if you are ordering many courses. Our Salsiccia e Funghi pizza could not have been better. Lightly charred crust, perfect pizza crust. We asked for Parmesan and they brought out a little plate of freshly grated heavenly cheese. We will be back often for the pizza. We ordered the Cappelletti Romagnoli pasta, which were little "hats" of pasta, similar to a tortellini, filled with pork, mortadella and other meats. Yummy taste that we had never experienced before. It was covered with a delicious Parmesan cream sauce that we ended up dipping our pizza crust into. The Tiramasu is described as the best in the world, and they are not wrong. It is topped with a little chocolate chip biscotti that was absolute best biscotti we had ever had. It was dense but not hard to bite into. Usually we almost break a tooth on biscotti, so we were pleasantly surprised. Then, low and behold, the Tiramisu is made with a layer of these lovely biscotti inside!!! We were moaning out loud! During the meal we tried a bottle of the Basta Brunello and it had lovely red fruit notes balanced with earth tones. We looked forward to trying other wines with the Basta label. We feel Thousand Oaks Boulevard needed a classy, friendly neighborhood restaurant like this. We look forward to bringing our friends. (They mentioned that they will be adding valet parking next week. The staff was all friendly, and our server, Ivan R., was extremely personable and knowledgeable and helpful in advising us on the wide array of choices from the menu.
