The paninis are definitely the star of the show here -- really solid and flavorful. The chop salad was also delicious and surprisingly fresh. If you go, I'd recommend sitting outside since it can get a bit warm indoors. Service is great and the staff do consistently check up on you even if you're outside. I'm so glad Simi Valley finally has a spot like this. It's honestly one of the only Italian delis around here that really delivers. I ordered the Bambino, and one bite says it all. The sandwich is loaded with capocollo di Martina Franca, Genoa salami, and prosciutto cotto, layered with provolone, pepperoncini, tomatoes, red onions, and lettuce--and somehow everything comes together perfectly. The flavors are bold but balanced, the meat is tender and juicy, and every bite just hits. The bread has that perfect crunch and holds everything together without falling apart, which makes a big difference. And the size? Huge. Definitely worth it. What really stood out too was the service. The person who took my order was very nice and attentive, and you can tell they genuinely care about their customers. I saw people dining in, and right away they were being welcomed, seated, and offered drinks. It just feels like a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. The inside adds to the experience--it actually feels like a true Italian deli. They've got shelves stocked with Italian sodas, snacks, sauces, pastas, and all kinds of condiments you can take home to make your own Italian dishes. Everything looks high quality, and it makes me want to come back just to try their products and cook something at home. I'd easily compare this place to Criccas in Woodland Hills, which says a lot. Plus they offering catering where you can get larger portions of salads, trays of sandwiches, lasagna and more. They also offer a variety of Italian treats and drinks to enjoy with your meal. My friend and I decided on a couple of sandwiches. Sandwiches range from about 17 dollars to 22 dollars. They offer both meat sandwiches and vegetarian sandwiches. I settled on the chicken parmesan sandwich. I appreciated that it was not overly breaded with the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The bread was the perfect touch. As it was a beautiful day we were happy that they offered outdoor patio seating. Some of the seating is directly in the sun, but they do offer some in the shade. There is a mixture of high boy and regular tables. Plus there is indoor seating as well. The staff was super friendly at the restaurant. Plus very patient with us as it was our first time here. Yum, a new delicious Italian Deli on the westside of Simi Valley. Tucked in the corner on Madera and Royal you can find this place. Straightforward you order at the front, get a number and find a seat. My friend and I both ordered sandwiches as that appears to be their specialty. I can see why. The bread is outstanding. Lets start with the Service, the ladies behind the counter are friendly and engaging. Due to the very busy adjacent street corner, the amplified road noise kills the casual outdoor seating area. As to the food, The first time we went, we had the meatball sandwich and lasagna, both were very good. We told all our friends and neighbors about it. Today we ordered the lasagna and the margarita pizza, and unfortunately the pasta in the lasagna was hard and tasted like cardboard, the sauce tasted like it came from a can, and the mozzarella less than fresh. The pizza was no better, the crust was super gooey, and overall not tasty. The fact that we spent $46 for this type of experience made it even worse. It's a mix of emotions rating this place, I love seeing new local businesses instead of another big franchise place open up, but this platform is about being honest. The food itself is good, not blow your mind great but I don't think you would walk out disappointed. I tried this place partially because I'm Italian and the other because of the video ad. I ordered the "Polpetta" (aka Meatball Panini) and was taken aback by it. This is NOT a panini, not by a long-shot. Panini's are grilled, smashed, and on regular bread. THIS is more like a meatball sandwich on a round, thick bun. Pros: delicious, large meatballs and tons of tomato sauce and cheese. Cons: it's super messy (all that sauce), so you'd better get a lot of napkins! The bread roll falls apart after the first few bites. Plus, there's no fountain drinks (Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc) or even iced tea, just imported bottled stuff from Italy. After hearing decent things about Porcellino's we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, don't waste your time or money. We watched the food prep and I was disappointed to say the least. The arancini was pulled from the freezer and thrown in the fryer. While the outside texture had potential, after covering it in sauce, they fell apart, were soggy, and lacked flavor. The meatballs were reheated, dry, cold in the center, and were bland with no identifiable seasoning. The lasagna was pulled from a tray under the kitchen island. It was placed in a porcelain bowl, covered in plastic wrap, and microwaved. It tasted as though the wine had not been cooked out of the sauce. Stauffers is a better choice for the money. The bambino panini was large, but was just a sandwich on bread...not a panini as described. The best part of our meal was the margarita pizza which was made fresh. Now to the positives: Cute market to the left and it's where you can grab your cold drinks. Ordering was easy and service was friendly. Our food was delivered to our table freshly made, and fairly quick! Love that they use wooden plates and boards for the food! We sat on the cute patio (despite it being 92°). We shared a bottle of limoncello (they graciously gave us two cups filled with ice), the margarita pizza, and the Bambino sandwich. Ok, the sandwich itself was worth the trip...so good! I'm a huge Bay Cities fan, and although the bread is different and delicious in its own way, the taste was comparable to the Godmother. The pizza had a nice crust. Not super flavorful, but good. Simi Valley has many virtues. Wide streets. Good schools. Plenty of sunshine. But culinary adventure has never been the first thing that comes to mind when people speak of it. There are, of course, a few honorable exceptions. So when word began circulating about a new Italian deli called Porcellino's, I raised an eyebrow. An Italian deli? Here? This is a town where a decent meatball can feel like a minor miracle. I assumed it would be pleasant enough, but nothing worth writing home about. I waited a few weeks before stepping inside. Immediately, something felt different. The place had charm. Real charm. Not the laminated-menu, fluorescent-light variety. It was warm, a little stylish, a little quirky. It felt like it had been transported here from somewhere else, somewhere with narrow streets, Vespa scooters, and grandmothers arguing about tomato sauce. The staff greeted us like neighbors, not customers. We ordered with optimism. First came the eggplant parm. I've eaten eggplant parm all over Southern California and beyond, and I don't say this lightly: it may be the best I've ever had. Tender eggplant, perfect sauce, cheese doing exactly what cheese should do. Then the Dani North panino: prosciutto and cheese in flawless harmony, pressed between bread so good it deserves its own paragraph. I won't even try to explain the bread. You'll just have to meet it yourself. The polpette arrived next. Meatballs the way they should be: simple, comforting, deeply satisfying. And then the Porcellino's Chopped Salad. It is a higher price point than the chain sandwich shops. I get home and 3 boxes. A sticker on each box to let you know what sandwich was inside. I opened the box to find this massive sandwich. The bread looked similar to the bread in Florence. The meats and cheese were piled high. The Calabrian chilis gave the sandwich a great touch of heat. They sandwich was so big I ate half for lunch and the other half for dinner. We thought the sandwiches were dry. My daughter added red wine vinegar to her sandwich, I should have added olive oil, to my sandwich. Unfortunately the ear piercing construction, when I ordered was ordering was off putting. It's my own fault. I ignored one of my cardinal rules. Never go to a restaurant unless or until they have been in business AT LEAST SIX MONTHS. This is to give them a chance to iron out the kinks/issues. There will ALWAYS be the kinks/issues with new restaurants... just the nature of the beast. Not anyone's fault. It's just a rite of passage, I suppose. In any event, I ignored my own rule, and I got what I expected. A disappointing experience. However, I will certainly give them some time to clean up their act and get their _ _ _ _ together, but if after that time, I still get the same issues, we will have a permanent parting of the ways. For now, though, it's a wait and see game. So here's what transpired... We ordered the Porcellino Chop (Salad). It was SUPPOSED TO HAVE iceberg lettuce, radicchio, pepperoncini, red onion, garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, Caciocavallo cheese, with a red wine vinaigrette & oregano. We asked for the onions to be kept separate and placed in a separate container. What we got was a salad COMPLETELY VOID of any garbanzo beans or cheese and paid $17 to have TWO KEY ingredients missing. Strike ONE. Strike TWO was that while they did place some onions in a container, they also placed onions in the mix of salad ingredients, which we asked them NOT to do. And then, strike THREE was that the vinaigrette was waaaay too vinegary and way too salty. The dressing was so harsh, we couldn't finish the salad because the dressing had already been mixed throughout the salad. Next, we come to the sandwiches. My husband ordered the polpetta panini, and I ordered the pollo parm. The polpetta included meatballs, pesto sauce, melted mozzarella, pomodoro, and salsa verde. Strike FOUR - my husband's sandwich was completely missing the pesto and salsa verde. My husband said he loved the bread, but the other items were without a lot of flavor. My sandwich SHOULD HAVE included chicken parmigiana, melted mozzarella, tomato sauce, and salsa verde. Instead, strike FIVE, it was completely void of the salsa verde and mozzarella cheese. Are you kidding me with the cheese? As for the tomato sauce, strike SIX, it was completely void of taste. Don't just heat up tomato sauce out of a can... how about seasoning it, so it has amazing flavor? The chicken parm had a little flavor, but it could've used more, and we won't even talk about the lack of cheese. Because ours was a take-out order, it wasn't like we could have had the food immediately returned to fix (most of) the issues. We had brought it all home only to then realize the mistakes. We weren't about to schlep back there, so we just dealt with it. And because it was take-out, we have no idea if they simply weren't paying attention OR if they had actually run out of all those missing ingredients. I've seen a few Yelp reviews citing them for running out of key ingredients. This would be part of their learning curve, and if they are reading this review, I would please ask them to PAY ATTENTION MUCH BETTER - - - and - - - INCREASE THEIR AMOUNT OF INGREDIENTS ON HAND, so that the orders can be made with the ingredients THEY list. There is simply NO EXCUSE for running out of things. Lastly, some of their food was seasoned, and as with the vinaigrette, it was too much, and some of the food wasn't seasoned at all, notably the tomato sauce and pomodoro. It was uneven, and I was so disgusted by the lack of flavor with the tomato sauce, I just ate the chicken parm even without the cheese present. Again, I knew there might be problems attempting to try this place so early on, and that is why they got three stars from me. That was me being generous because if this happens after considerable time, I can assure you that star award will drop to 1 if this doesn't improve. This is a story that will be continued. The sandwiches are large so my husband and I share. We met the owner on our first visit. She was very friendly and answered a lot of our questions. I heard from a friend a few months about about this new restaurant in town and I was excited because there's zero good Italian food besides my kitchen in Simi, let alone in Ventura County or even LA County. But again was hoping the pricing was due to the homemade goodness and yummy flavors. Again I was wrong. I love a good chicken parm sandwich which is what I ordered. I also love meatballs and wanted to try but figured I would see how the sauce is and would consider to a second visit. The cutlet seems manufactured and not a fresh piece and neither did the breading. Not crispy at all. No flavor of any kind not even a hint of fresh sautéed garlic. The sauce aka gravy was bland and they had to cover it up with lemon pesto which isn't a authentic chicken parm sandwich. The cheese also had no flavor. Bread was okay. I also got the small pasta salad which was dry and no Italian dressing of any kind on it. No diced onion either. One piece of salami about the side of an inch by inch. Hubby got the Capocollo di Martina Franca sandwich. He said it was very salty (the meats were) and it was just okay, cheese no flavor. He actually said the OG at Jersey Mikes was way better and half the price with chips and a drink. Lmao A woman next to us ordered lasagna and I couldn't believe how small the piece was for the price. I can make an entire homemade pyrex for that price with meatballs too. The ambiance was good for a lunch spot and they have a patio but is pretty packed in. The flow of the place is crowed and needs some feng shui. Italian-American (not from Italy) rainbow cookies are commonly known as Tricolore, Venetian cookies, or seven-layer cookies are my favorite cookies of all time! I'm from a place that has real Italian bakeries and when I go home first stop is Bella Napoli's for cookies! I was hoping Porcellino's would have these. They do but sadly they have the fake ones you can get on Amazon or I've heard they also have them in Walmarts. Prepackaged not fresh. Guess I'll have to make a sheet for us. We have visited Pocellino's twice since they've opened and we love it. The food has been great, the first time we got the harvest salad, the chicken parmesan sandwich, and arancini. I loved everything we got, the salad is so fresh and very filling with a light vinaigrette. I'm a true lover of arancini and these are excellent. The sandwich was great as well. The food is high quality and tastes great. It's small inside but there's seating outside as well. They have a small marketplace area with Italian imports. It was so fresh & homemade tasting! The bread is so so good! My gosh, I devoured it! Third, because I was waiting for my to-go order I was able to watch the whole vibe! What I witnessed was the hardest working people who really seem to have so much heart! And on top of that they seemed genuinely happy. I was saddened to see my fellow simi citizens write reviews complaining about the silliest of issues! Please don't let anything said detour you. It really was a very authentic Italian experience! Finally! Simi Valley has its very own authentic and delicious Italian sandwich shop and deli! This charming new space in West Simi is a fantastic addition to Simi Valley's food scene. I love the green awnings and the charming cafe chairs- so cute like you're in Italy! The sandwiches are much of the menu, but there are appetizers and lasagna that also looked fabulous. Fresh baked daily focaccia bread is the heart of each sandwich and it is just the most incredible texture. There were lots of choices for cold panini that looked delicious, but our fam went for the hot chicken parmigiana panini. The serving size was hefty! The chicken parm inside was perfectly cooked- crispy exterior and moist tender chicken inside- and the delicious marinara and melty cheese on top. Next time, I really want to try one of the deli sandwiches with fried zucchini in it or maybe the muffuletta. We also got the Porci pinsa, which was a white mini-pizza with mortadella, salsa verde and pistachio drizzle. It was subtle and the crust was delicious and perfectly toasted. When we go back, I'd love to try the other flavors too. There was also a Bianca pinsa and a margarita. They had some yummy Italian imported sodas and a peach nectar, which was like drinking a fresh peach. No high fructose corn syrup here! :) On the left as you enter, there is a mini market filled with charming goods from Italy fun to peruse as you wait to order. Service was friendly and helpful. They are a brand new business so still working out some details and timing, but everyone is doing a great job. Behind the checkout, there are some drink choices- Italian wines by the glass and espresso based drinks too. When friends visit Simi, I can't wait to introduce them to Porcellinos. Went for the soft opening and holy cow, the sandwiches were unbelievable!!! Had the hot meatball and a traditional Italian (#3 I believe) - meatballs were phenomenal and the fresh bread is so so so good. The entire menu leaves you wanting to come back and try every other sandwich. Staff was extremely friendly and the spot itself is so nice as well. It will absolutely be one of our regular spots.
