Third time visiting this location of Basta and it was my best experience yet. It started when our server Mila apologized for not being an expert on my beer selection and she asked if I would mind consulting with someone who was. He was able to help me. We ordered the Agnollotti special and it came out exactly as Mila described and was delicious. We were there for 3 hours and Mila never rushed us and checked in with us just the right amount of times. Their Tiramisu was an excellent desert. Decided to try out the Thousand Oaks location with some friends on a Saturday evening and overall it was a pleasant experience, however, it seemed to be slightly lacking compared to previous experiences at the Agoura location. We arrived at 6pm to put our names in and there was already about an hour wait which was somewhat expected as they don't take reservations. Tarantula Brewing Co. is conveniently located across the street if you wanted to wait things out over a cold brew (recommend). There is valet parking, however, there is plenty of street parking and depending on how busy it is you may just have to walk a little bit. The service has always been great whenever I dine at Basta and this occasion was no different. Very attentive server and once seated we had drinks order and bread on the table. We shared a handful of things on this occasion...Basta Meatballs, Spaghettini Vongole, Tagliatelle Al Ragu & the Caprese Pizza. All were very good though the Vongole was not as good as past times and the Caprese pizza wasn't quite what we expected (cold toppings on hot pizza). The Meatball and Ragu was delicious! We finished things off with the Tirmisu (good but not my fave and have had much better) and the gluten-free carrot cake which was easily the favorite on the table. It's usually always busy inside the restaurant, so the atmosphere is lively, however, it's definitely not the place to go for a quiet evening out if that's what you're after. read more

I've been to plenty of restaurants, but this one left me frustrated. The place was way too loud -- you could barely hear the person next to you. Getting service took forever. When we finally waved the waiter down, he looked annoyed. Our drinks came out at different times, and the food followed the same pattern -- one dish here, another much later. To top it off, they brought out our appetizers at the end of the meal. For what we spent, the service and food were not worth it. Go to the Basta in Agoura instead -- it's calmer, better run, and actually enjoyable. read more

A new & second location for Basta. I want to emphasize if you are in the valley. This Italian restaurant is as good as it get unless you can drive to Weho or DTLA. Everything I tried was delicious and the steak cooked just perfect. It was juicy and tasty. My server, Ms LudMila was the best, she was attentive, friendly and always with a big smile. The new restaurant is lovely with a big bar, good size patio and modern decor. I like this location better than the first location because it is new, lot of parking space in the back. You can have a beer or a cocktail across the street at Tarantula Hill Brewing while waiting for your table. One thing that stops me from coming back more often is that the restaurant won't take reservation or even take down phone number to text you. It is first come first served, you put down your name and wait around for your name to call. Average wait time is 50 mins unless you agree to sit outside. read more

I reallllllly wanted to love Basta, it really missed the mark for me though. Pro's: the restaurant itself is stunning, I love the open concept, the decor and lighting are lovely. The bartenders were very nice. Con's: the parking is difficult. They don't accept reservations so we agreed to wait 40 minutes for a table. Thankfully we were able to snag two spots at the bar to get a drink while we wait. It took about 30 minutes and then we were seated next to the bathroom, I asked if we could wait for a different table and she said it would be another 40 minutes... what? lol so we sat down. It took 10 minutes to get waters, I think there was maybe five servers for the entire restaurant and they were jam packed. We ordered the mussels to start. They had no flavor, the broth tasted like garlic water, the piece of bone marrow was so small and sad. I ordered the black truffle cavatelli and my guy ordered the ossobuco. The pasta had no trace of black truffle flavor I was so disappointed and my guys dish was heavily salted. We were so ready to go but it took about 40 minutes to finally get our server and the check settled. I want to give this place another chance because there are so many good reviews, so maybe on a slower day. read more

We're new to the area so on recommendations, we tried Basta for lunch. Service was very good as was the environment and good. We started out with the muscles. Perfectly prepared and substantial portion. There was more than enough for our table of 3. Next we had the burrata salad, delicious and very fresh. The dressing was amazing. We then had the parpadella pasta and chicken bowl. Again delicious. We finished with a butter cake that was eaten in 5 seconds. Will definitely return-for a steak! read more

On all levels ... a miss. We are big fans of the original Bastia in Agoura and had high hopes for the Thousand Oaks restaurant, but it doesn't deliver. Despite generally high prices (which translates to high expectations), the food was lackluster. Cannellini bean hummus was runny and served with very little bread. Ask for more bread and get charged for a half order of Focaccia. Trout was Bland, gem salad also bland. We ordered two side, one didn't show up so we asked 20 minutes into the meal and suddenly they found it. Overall, an experience we'd expect at a restaurant half the price. Not going back. read more
