The food and service were amazing! We had the gem salad - very fresh and light vinaigrette. You can usually tell the quality of a restaurant by their salad and soup. I shared a New York steak with my sister. Our wonderful server, Daniele, seasoned our steak at the table with lemon juice, salt and pepper - yum, cooked rare, just as we requested. Chitarra Cacio e Pepe was 7/10 it didn't have much flavor then again that pasta is very basic in the sense of a few ingredients, the pasta noodles were excellent quality tho. Perfectly cooked. Steaks Tomahawk was flavored beautiful cooked, great flavor 10/10 sea salt was put on the side for preference. Tomahawk was based on the pounds. Came here on a Tuesday night with my husband and 7-year-old to check out the new location. We've been to the Agoura spot before and honestly had some frustrating experiences with their "first come, first served" system--watching people show up after us and get seated first was not it. Thankfully, this location didn't pull that. It was a slower night, only two parties ahead of us, and we were seated in about 20 minutes. No complaints there. First impression? The place is beautiful. Definitely an upgrade in ambiance. Parking, though, is a bit of a scavenger hunt unless you use valet (which, to be fair, is convenient). We got there around 6:30 and were seated close to 7. Even though it wasn't busy and tables were clearing out, service was... slow. It took a while just to get greeted and even longer to put in our drink and food orders (about 20-25 minutes in). Our server was friendly, but seemed more focused on chatting than actually keeping things moving. Like... maybe swing by our table before bussing another one? My son got the pepperoni pizza and asked for juice--options were pretty limited (orange, cranberry, pineapple... basically bar juice). We ordered the arugula and burrata salad, which was honestly the highlight. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you'd want. For mains, my husband got the pappardelle with meatballs, and I ordered the tagliatelle. Both were just... meh. Nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. The pasta leaned a little too far past al dente for our liking, and overall the dishes didn't wow us. By the end of the meal, the place had pretty much emptied out, yet it still took a while to track down our server for the check and a to-go box. All in all, the vibe is great, but the food and service didn't quite match it. It was great to try the new spot, however, in the future this probably won't be a place we'd go out of our way for when we're craving Italian food. read more

Mila was our outstanding server and I'm not sure she couldn't have given us better service. We started with the Fritto Misto Di Mare which was lightly coated and fried and was accompanied by a side of marinara sauce. Went here at 11:30 am on a Sunday but they were mopping the floors even though they were open at 11 am. We were the first one seated but surprisingly, instead of spreading us out, all the customers were seated on the left side of the resto - making the area crowded. Now the food: The seafood appetizer, pescatore bowl and tiramisu were good. The short ribs were just ok Now the service: There was only one waitress and she was so busy taking orders that we sometimes have to flag her down. Our main dish (bowl and short ribs) came 30 minutes after we finished our appetizers. It would be nice if they would tell us how much longer it will take for them to cook it...not "it's coming"....but never came on time Remember, we got there at 11:30 and one family came after us. The waitress took our order around at 12:05. Bread and appetizer came fast enough and The resto became busy around 12:30 pm We didn't leave until 1:30 pm. We had to ask a server where we can pay and finally the waitress came to take our payment. We shouldn't be flagging down a waitress in order to get service. Would I ever go back? Maybe.... read more

Firstly, they have pitchers of Arnold Palmer, my favorite non-alcoholic beverage, and they weren't stingy with it. We started with the cannellini bean hummus with roasted squash, spicy chili oil and focaccina. It was a very unique presentation and quite tasty. The pappardelle with meatballs. Oh my, those fluffy, pillowy noodles smothered in rich pomodoro sauce were true pasta perfection. The meatballs were excellent - bursting with flavor and perfectly tender. Seriously, this dish is comfort food elevated to an art form. The tagliatelle pasta with a meat ragú was amazing as well. Basta hit it out of the park with their delicious food, excellent service, and warm atmosphere. I'm really pleased to see this side of TO Blvd becoming more of a destination. Tarantula Hill is thriving and it appears there is even more business to be had. Basta certainly can fill the void and I think is going to do wonders for TO. Modern, rustic, and somewhat warm vibe, Basta was hopping on a Friday night. The staff was very attentive and helpful throughout our entire experience. We did have an interesting table setup for our group of 7. We were placed in 2 side-by-side booths that at first we were apprehensive about. But after the first round of drinks, everyone settled in just fine. The waiter indicated the freshly made pasta and the meat selections was Basta's hallmarks. With that bit of information I enjoyed the Cavatelli with truffle and sausage. The plate was passed around the table to be shared amongst all. Nothing but thumbs up. The complimentary bread was a great way to break up the richness of the truffle sauce. The group shared Hamachi crudo, pizza, and grilled artichokes. All were solid picks and worth a try. We were all envious of the calzone that went by our table so that will definitely be on our minds at our next visit. I was in search of an espresso martini but the waiter suggested pistachio martini. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the taste and texture of the drink. It is definitely something I'd order on my next visit. Thank you Basta for opening another location in TO. The updated ambiance feels much more modern, with a sleek, upscale vibe, and I really appreciate how they've made the bar a focal point - it's the perfect spot to start the evening with a drink.
