When my wife and I first came to base bowl the food was amazing. The broth was flavorful, the noodles were fantastic and this time.. IT was an extreme let down. I got the batters favorite and it tasted like noodles in water. It was bland from start to finish. Even adding the Chili oil did not help. The meet was unseasoned, the broth was unseasoned, the drinks were not good. I don't know if it was just an off night or the place has gone down hill. It use to be vibrant and a place you could hang with friends and chill. Now, it was empty and lifeless and this is on a Friday night. Our friends got a mixture of things and one of my friends got the coconut curry ramen with extra chicken and didn't even bother eating the chicken and said the Ramen itself was not worth it. I'm not a fan of trashing restaurants, I truly like to find the beauty somewhere but this place gave my wife food poisoning. For a cold and dreary day, hot ramen is the perfect pick me up! Saw plenty of great reviews about this place and decided to check it out. Street parking was a challenge as others seemed to have the same idea but once I parked across the street everything from there was up. It's pretty spacious with a nice size patio area; it was empty, so I opted to sit at the bar - they have happy hour specials all day every day. I settled for a tequila lemon drop, edamame and the Strike Out ramen with fried chicken. The chicken was seasoned but I felt like I had mostly fat which added a chewy texture so I didnt eat all of it. The ramen itself was good, had a nice spice to it and the lemon drop was strong. The edamame was soft, like they used thawed frozen peas and barely any salt. Overall - this visit satisfied the craving of wanting ramen. My son & I came here before the Phillies/Nationals game. The food is fresher, better, a little healthier and same price or cheaper than ballpark food. There was one server/order taker so he was running around taking care of everyone. Eventually, another staff member showed and helped out. An automatic 20% service charge is added to bill (I am assuming tip so people don't skimp on the tip). I have no problem with that. The Crab Rangoon was good. It came out hot from fryer. Generous filling of imitation crab and cream cheese. The sweet and sour sauce was okay. Cuts through the greasiness of the oil from the crispy skin. The Hunan chicken turns out to be black bean chicken cause Hunan chicken should have a spicy brown sauce sans black bean. Nonetheless, it was a food portion and to fill 2 people, get an extra bowl of rice. There was chicken, broccoli, slices of canned mushroom, red & green bell peppers, water chestnuts, snow peas and onion. The dark brown sauce was savory with a fermented black bean saltiness. No spicy. I asked for medium spice. No red chili could be found. The servers while running around did give us refills of water without us asking. That's a huge thumbs up for me. Update: since my last review this restaurant kept its name but changed its cuisine to Chinese. We decided to try it out as a Chinese food place and wanted beef noodles. We decided to do take out and ordered online. The process was easy and the food was ready on time. When we got there it was a little quieter so we had to wait until an employee was on the floor to get us the food. We got braised beef noodle soup and wonton in chili oil. The wontons were good, 8 pieces. It seemed like there was another sauce on it, in addition to the chili oil, and that sauce had a sweetness to it that I wasn't expecting. We enjoyed the braised beef noodle soup. They packed the soup separate from the rest of the dish, which was good. The beef was tender and so were the pieces of bok Choy. The noodles were a little thicker than what I'm used to but they were cooked well. When we first ordered it, I was afraid it was going to be spicer, because of the redness in the soup. Basebowl was a really delicious Ramen bar that is across the street from the Nationals Stadium. My boyfriend and I were looking for a yummy spot before going to the D.C. United game Saturday night and glad we stopped here! They had roll up doors so the bar faced the sidewalk and was very inviting. We got the Lychee Frozen Colada and a vodka soda with the steamed shrimp dumplings as the appetizer. They were fresh and tasty but could have used a little more seasonings to give it some oomph. Then we both got the Strike Out ramen bowl with the fried chicken. It was delicious! Really good flavors and the coconut milk base broth was really tasty. Overall, a great spot to stop at grab food and drinks and people watch from the bar. They had very attentive staff that were always smiling and asking if we needed anything more. The name is a bit cringe, but this is a distinctive offering amongst the largely generic set of businesses outside the stadiums. It was busy due to the game schedule when I walked in. Their solution was a QR code ordering system. My cell service was dubious but they do have free wifi, so that helps. There was some waiting, but I was able to get out inside of an hour when most businesses in the area were slammed, so not a terrible service outcome. They offer a generally Szechuan style of cuisine, and I had not seen the yu xiang preparation offered for tofu before so I took the chance to try something new. The flavor was a little sweeter than I'd expected for the cuisine, but there were ample fermented beans that showed that proper ingredients were used in the sauce, and the savory element grew on me. I prefer my Szechuan cuisine to be mouth-meltingly spicy, but I could see why this dish appeals to people. My tea was quite strong-I would go so far as to say overbrewed-but to me it wasn't a huge bother as it provided a useful flavor contrast. We should've turned around when we walked in but we decided to give this place a try on a game night. To be clear there was literally one family sitting and we weren't even acknowledged by the host/waitress for a while. The restaurant is pretty small probably eight total tables throughout the space and they have some outdoor seating. When we finally got seated she gave us zero time to even attempt to look at the disgusting menus before asking us numerous times what to order. Meanwhile, she couldn't bring us water. I asked several times for a cup of water for my son .. never received, nor could he get a fork or spoon. Just all around disappointing service and again they were not busy. We ordered spring rolls and the mango general two chicken. The spring rolls were flavorless, the sauce really didn't help them at all. It was just carrots in a fried paper with a little of cabbage. The general tso was fine but didn't have any different flavor compared to a normal takeout restaurant. Basically for the mandatory 20% gratuity and the price of the food I wouldn't recommend this place. This is a pan Asian type of restaurant in Navy Yard. I just got some appetizer type foods here instead of a full meal. It was pretty good. I got the pork wonton soup, which was pretty affordable since you got six of them for about five dollars. The soup was a tad salty, but the wontons were pretty good and I was satisfied with the flavor. I also got the tempura. The shrimp was decent and it was crusty. The crust was a little thick, but I did enjoy this. It came with a sweet-and-spicy sauce rather than the tentsuyu sauce. Overall, it was pretty affordable pre tax and tip. Note that there is a 20% gratuity added. While it does advertise Ramen. I would tend to avoid that dish as this is not a Ramen restaurant so that dish seems a bit sus. read more

So basebowl had great ramen. Then they got rid of the ramen and added Chinese food. That was a mistake. Fortunately the ramen seems to be back on the menu, but we tried the Chinese food for carry out recently. It wasn't the best but it was good enough for us to conveniently pick up in our neighborhood. The sesame chicken didn't taste bad but the sauce wasn't the right sauce for sesame chicken. The lo mein was actually quite good. The veges were very fresh in the vege lo mein and the beef was tasty in the beef one. I liked the steamed pork dumplings, my husband didn't. We prefer Yums for carry-out Chinese but since we left that area and live in navy yard now, we'll prob pick up from here from time to time for the convenience. I stumbled on this spot after a Nats game. The open door concept was inviting and they had a huge sign that said happy hour all day! They had some amazing drink specials for HH. I also decided to try the ramen. The bartender suggested the Strike Out. I wasn't impressed. The soup, which was curry based, lack flavor. It was missing something. The name is excellent - and it's a decent option for any type of Asian food in a neighborhood without many Asian options. It's right next to the ballpark and it's a perfect meal after watching the game with a few beers. That said, it's no where near the best ramen in the DC area so I would only recommend this place if you are already in the area - you should not come out of you way to visit here. Swung on by after the Nats game was done - super busy at the bar but the dining room wasn't full. They told us to sit anywhere so we picked a table - it was cooler than outside but since the bar opens to the outside and connects to the dining room - it ended up being a little warmer than I'd like - which was a bummer after a hot June game. Servers were polite, albeit rushed and I'm sure tired after a long day of game day customers. We ordered an appetizer of gyoza, entrees were ramen & specialty sushi roll, a nigiri roll & a soda. We had to ask again for the soda after they brought out the appetizer but not the drink. They promptly brought out the soda once we reminded them. Ramen came out quickly after the appetizer and then the specialty roll. Ramen had a good flavor- perhaps a smaller bowl than I'm used to at other ramen places but it was still good. I had ordered the Foul Ball roll but they had accidentally served the Wild Pitch roll. I didn't realize it was the wrong roll since both have tempura fish in it and topped with tempura flakes. When I had finished, the server came up to profusely apologize that they made a mistake and offered to bring me the correct roll and not charge me for my food, but I was already full. I appreciated that they informed me and took off the meal on our check which is why I'm giving 4 stars. The food was fine, staff was friendly and it was a nice vibe after a long day at the ballpark. COCKROACHES IN FOOD!!! This new management of this restaurant has been the worst thing that has happened to this establishment. Gone are the baseball themed ramen noodle bowls! Now you have run of the mill Chinese dishes that don't taste good and aren't anything unique. There is absolutely nothing unique or good to say about the food or even the menus. Management is so cheap that they don't even pay for new menus and just tape paper over parts they don't to apply to this location! It doesn't even belong infront of a baseball stadium! Speaking of the food, my guest and I were surprised to find a literal COCKROACH in our bowl. Definitely not the type of protein I ordered with my noodles. The only thing good I can say about this store is the waitresses. They apologized so much, comped the meal and even offered a replacement meal and a bottle of sake. They did everything they could in their power to make it up to us, which I can't say about management. When contacting management they offered us a refund or meal replacement. Thanks buddy, but if you're going to charge me $17 and put a cockroach in my food, then you need to do more than say whoops. Your own waitresses cared more about us than you did. The spicy beef ramen tasted very fresh and the beef was so tender, I was able to savor all the flavor with each chew. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. But the bar has a lot of seats they played '10 R&B and it really was a vibe. 5/5 Side Note: There was couple sitting at the bar being super friendly and talkative. My wife and I have seen this place near Nats Park and have been intending to try it. My wife and I decided to come here with our best friend before the final game of the Nationals and Cardinals series last Sunday. We arrived shortly before their scheduled opening and the server was kind to seat us early. The restaurant unfortunately does not seem to be getting the high level of business or other restaurants which is shame given their punny fitting name, cherry blossom theme, excellent food, and outstanding Asian beer selection. My wife and I started out with the Wild Pitches sushi roll and the Batter's Favorite (beef) ramen. They were both some of the best sushi and ramen we have ever had. We also had the Màkku Passion Fruit beer and the Hokkaido Melon ale. They changed the beer selection from the menu which listed a mango and watermelon ale, but what they had did not disappoint. We were still hungry so we ordered the Strike Out ramen which was our favorite as it was a green coconut curry with fried chicken. We also ended with the Kyoto Bakushu Kuromane ale which was also good but not as great as the first two beers, but still very good and unique. We loved the ramen, sushi, beer selection, and cherry blossom theme. The service was also wonderful. We look forward to returning before or after another Nats game or maybe to go to the neighborhood and would even go there just to support them when the Nats are not playing or before or after a DC United game as their new Audi Field is nearby as well. read more
