I'm a donut connoisseuse, too, and this place has very, very good donuts. The donuts are light-tasting and fluffy; they don't bog you down like an anvil in your stomach. The donut holes are also fluffy and delicious. My son would agree! I'm not a huge fan of the coffee; it's okay (not strong or thick enough for my taste), but it's cheap, so you can't complain. Very nice service at the counter. Not crowded or busy, very laid-back place. The only hard part is pulling a left out of the lot when Bascom is busy. ;-) read more

I do believe they do have GREAT donuts (personally the chocolate covered devils food w/ or w/o nuts). Have been going ther for years. Also personal note, while the new owners are nice, the old owners were a little bit more generous with the donut holes when you bought regular donuts. But a questions still remains in my mind, I don't think they make them there. Any opinion? Doesn't change how good they are. read more

First time I had ever been to this shop. I have passed it a lot in my travels. It really doesn't look like much when you drive by. It kind of looks like a dive. But we were in a hurry yesterday morning and it was on our way at the start of a 3 hour drive first thing in the morning so we stopped. WOW, so glad we did. The staff is incredibly friendly. My husband wanted a filled chocolate bar. She didn't have any, but said she was happy to fill one of the bars for him. So we did. The donuts were so light and delicious. Good donuts and great service. Definitely a win! read more

This place isn't terribly close to my house so it probably won't be my first pick when I have a doughnut craving...still, there was a pretty solid selection and the doughnuts were okay to excellent. I tried three: a glazed old-fashioned, a coconut chocolate cake, and a glazed buttermilk. Normally I looove cake doughnuts but this one disappointed; there was a weird aftertaste and I *gasp* couldn't finish it. The old-fashioned was good; nothing special but tasty. The buttermilk was the star! I gobbled that one, licked up the crumbs, and looked around for more! Service with a smile was an added bonus to the (mainly) tasty doughnuts! read more

So this morning, 4-5-17, I was on my way to work & I googled a doughnut shop near by. This was the nearest location. I was a little skeptical because I'm a doughnut person & I would have have been so disappointed if they were stale :( I walked into this doughnut shop around 6:20am & was out & back in my car by 6:22am. By far, one of the BEST doughnut shops I've been to! Fresh & fluffy! I ordered a chocolate bar & crumb doughnut, they were great! And, the gentleman threw in 2 glazed cake holes for free! I didn't even realize until I got into work. Over all great place! read more

This place is rad as hell! The staff are a friendly group and sometimes throw you extra donut holes for the heck of it. Most importantly, their donuts are wonderful on top of the prices being pretty fair too. As far as donut shops go, you can't go wrong with this spot. read more

Been going to this donut shop for years! I love it. Everything is so tasty. Their donut holes are soft and melt in your mouth delicious. The consistency of the dough for all the donuts are so yum. Donuts much better taste than Safeway and lots of variety. Love the cinnamon rolls and my kids will eat cake donuts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The service was great and coffee was good. Just one Star off cause I still like the taste of the blossom hill donut shop called donut basket. Sorry Bascom donuts but my taste buds like the other place a little but better. First off I personally don't like donuts but I was here this week buying some treats for my team. I looked up Bascom donuts and after the great reviews on Yelp I decided to give this place a try. After a short drive from my hotel I drove up on the donut shop and brought back some great memories. I didn't know at the time I looked this up, but this used to be a Winchell's donuts back in the day. This brought back a lot of great memories as a kid from riding over here on our bikes, skateboarding and favorite my aunt used to take me by here in the summers when I worked with her at her place of work. Inside wow a throw back in time...they've kept some of the old decor up which I thought was really cool. What I liked best was not only the nostalgia of the place but the friendliness of the owners and staff. I ended up chatting it up with the owner for approx 15 mins about his business and shared a story about my good friend that owns his own shop back home. He was completely genuine and I really liked sharing a few donut shop stories as well as watching what a locals fav this is. In the time I was here they had turned over several customers and by the time I was leaving a line to the door was forming. So for me the neighbors voted and the vote is this is a great donut shop and has other options like breakfast sandwiches, but known for the good stuff. This is a family owned donut shop that puts the extra touches that make these donuts great. My team threw these down and couldn't say enough good things about how good these tasted. Bascom Donuts is THE Best! Their donuts are so good that I would drive out of my way to buy their donuts! They are so kind and sweet to their customers and I've been coming here since I was a teenager and figured out the difference between a good and bad donut. It's a tiny place that's been here since I can remember, but those places are always the best around. If you love donuts, give Bascom Donuts a try very soon! ****Update*** I noticed a note on their counter Sunday morning. They will be changing ownership January 1st. I guess the current owners live in Hayward and they are sick of the drive so they sold this shop and opened a new one closer to home. The current owners are really nice people and I wish them well with their new shop. We will see if the new owners keep the same great food and same great prices..... I just moved to the area a year ago and this was one of the first breakfasts away from home I had. This place is run by two of the nicest people you will ever meet. The donuts are pretty good and made fresh every day. I am a donut snob so they will always fall short of my favorite Stan's but they are still pretty good. The main reason I eat there are the breakfast sandwiches they make. I usually get the #2 which is egg, bacon, cheese on a croissant. The croissants are made there every morning and they have the best friggin bacon in town. It's thick, lean and lots of it. On top of the good taste is the price. The breakfast sandwich is made fresh to order and comes hot enough to burn your mouth all or less than $3.00. Top it off with some fresh coffee and maybe a donut and you are still under $5.00. The owners usually throw in a hand full of donut holes when you order anything which is always a nice surprise. I usually stop in once a week or so on my way to work and each time I am greeted with a big smile and a "good morning". It kinda brightens my day each time. I am giving them 5 starts because of their very friendly service, good prices and easy access from Bascom Ave. If you want some good advice, the breakfast sandwiches are really hot and cheesy so they don't like to spend a lot of time traveling. I try to eat mine there. After 15 or 20 minutes in the paper wrapper they may get a little mushy. Still real good but they are always better eaten right away. i was craving donuts late last night, so i could NOT WAIT to check this place out super early this AM. what got me sold was the cute little boy (?) in the star wars helmet pointing at the donut case that was chosen as the main yelp photo for this shop. upon arriving, the place doesn't look like a fancy coffee shop: there's an adjacent private parking lot, there are singular booths to sit at and a retro-70s fast food pricing guide above the donut counter. everything that screams lonely drive-thru truck-stop that you see in movies. but then, you're welcomed by asians behind the counter (owners?) who are in legit aprons and then you realize that you're not in the countryside, but a suburb of san jose. the friendly older asian lady who helped us out with our order was so patient with my "what's in that?" questions and so cute in general. she answered everything with a smile. we ended-up getting a dozen variety + a couple apple turnovers + a blueberry-cream cheese croissant. i don't know why we bought so much, it's not like we're going to eat it all (i just wanted one), so it's ideal to bring to office/workplace to share. as other previous yelpers have noted, the donuts (the typical glazed or sugar coated ones) are to DIE FOR!!! they're super soft when you bite into it. just watching my husband bite into his (a glazed donut hole) almost reminded me of what it looks like when someone puts their head on a down feather pillow. that is what a bascom donuts' donut looks like when a mouth bites into it. i know, weird analogy, but it's the closest thing i can describe this donut experience too. the donuts aren't too sweet + just enough frosting, glaze, sugar on the outside to not overpower the donut taste underneath. i had another one for dessert tonight and it was as tasty + fluffy as it was at 6:30am this morning. i know i pretty much screwed my diet, but a couple of these bad boys (my fave are the sugar covered donuts) will make any man, woman + child happy. just check out with your doctor that it's okay to have them once in awhile...or else, just not tell him/her of your guilty indulgence. just remember, if you are ordering less than 5 bucks worth, bring cash. $5 is the minimum for use of plastic (CC/debit card). read more

There is only one saving grace to this donut shop....they close at 2pm weekdays and 1pm weekends. If they were open any later, I'd probably stop by every day after work for a fix, cause they're just that good! I'm a fan of the old fashion style donuts - slightly heavier with a touch of buttermilk tang and sticky sweet glaze...oh Homer Simpson, you poet, you writer of those words that will live in our hearts forever, "MMmmmmmm, donuts!" Homer must have known about Bascom Donuts for truer words have not been spoken! I've had better donuts only once in my life and that was up in Sonoma, so there may have been wine clouding my judgement. Bascom donuts are fluffy where they should be fluffy, rich where they should be rich, sweet where they should be sweet...you get the idea! Not the most promising looking place, but since I get my donuts to go, that's not an issue. Oh, and they DO accept credit cards for purchases over $5...not much of a stretch for me, despite how affordable the donuts are! If you need some rich and sugary goodness, and are the kind of person who can get up early to get there before they run out, it's worth the trip. read more

What is going on with their chocolate old fashions?! Really very good chocolate! I find myself going well out of my way to get them. I volunteered to donate two dozen donuts at my son's high school flea market - a job that got me up at 5:30 on a Saturday. Why did I not complain? We love Bascom Donuts! Whenever it's a special weekend morning my husband is sure to pick up a bag of our favorite donuts from the friendly staff. We have also ordered donuts on a few separate occasions and are never disappointed. We just had a donut party for our daughter and ordered 5 dozen without any issues.
