First time trying Tunisian mediterranean food. Walking into the restaurant was like being transported to Morroco / Tunisia mediterranean ambiance and decor. Food was a culinary adventure and a delight!! I savored each bite! My favorites were the beets and beef cheek (must order!). Food was 4.5 stars w/ 5 star potential; a couple of dishes were a tad salty for my taste but incredibly flavorful. Our server was super helpful and fun to talk to.

We went here for my wife's birthday dinner and really only liked the falafel sliders. The lamb meatballs were underwhelming and a bit too salty. The branzino was just okay, and both were served over a bed of couscous. The fries were delicious and crispy, but overly salted as well. On top of that, the menu of drinks written in chalk on their wall is just for show. Their actual drink menu is so much smaller and they have $11 beers on draft. I got a Pilsner, which was great, but $11 for a beer is pretty hefty. I'm used to paying $8 or $9, but $11 for a pint is steep. They played pitchy, piercing, high treble music which fit the theme of the restaurant, but we asked them to turn it down because it was giving us headaches. Thankfully they did so we could hear our own conversation and think clearly! There's a huge parking lot so no trouble parking at least.

Chicken Liver Pate

Yum! The food was amazing, and well-priced. The braised beef cheek had a great texture while the mussels were cooked in a delicious, mildly spicy soup. The desserts were just the right sweetness. The staff were nice and our server was very friendly. The interior has wonderful lighting and decorations are pretty and homey.

Mediterranean restaurant in a strip mall location with plenty of parking. My husband and I ordered the chicken, lamb, sample platter, friends which were all delicious. The restaurant itself is very cozy and romantic, I would say that our waitress must had been new because the service was choppy: the waitress would ask us if we want anything a few times in 10 mins but seemed like she was forced to do so lol. But would return again for more Mediterranean food!

Ive never had tunisian food and it was honestly SO good. I was not expecting much based on ambiance and it being in a parking lot but almost every meal was really tasteful. The shrimp and gritts were my least favorite and felt the hand of fatima quantity was little for value but everything else tasted great. Wish it had better ambiance/location to make it better for date night

Service was very helpful and informative! Refilled waters several times. We got these for ~120$ before tip/tax: hands of fatima: 7/10, a bit underwhelming for how popular it is. Liked attagirl's platter better, but the bread was fluffy and crisp. falafel sliders 9/10: normally wary of falafels as they tend to be dry, but these were so juicy and flavorful. another must have Beef cheek cous cous: 10/10! best item we got; meat was soo tender and paired well with the spices. chicken mosil: 7.5/10, the chicken was crispy and the quinoa was great but not my fav flavor profile. bread pudding: 6/10, was highly recommended but was dry. I do like that it wasnt super sweet though.

Our 1st time at Barsha. Food was great. Our server was overloaded with tables but incredibly efficient & very attentive. We weren't terribly hungry so we ordered a bunch of sides and a couple of drinks. All the ingredients were super fresh & everything was delish. Would definitely love to come back & try some more dishes. One negative was that it was kind of dark and loud (but it was a weekend night). I'd be interested in coming back on a weekday :).

Lamb Meatballs

Barsha is a laid back spot that's great for light bites and drinks with your friends after an afternoon at the beach. The team here is very friendly and welcoming. The owner knows how to take care of his guests. Lamb Meatballs: The meatballs are big and plump. They are nice and chewy on the inside with a bit of a sticky and crisp exterior. The m'hamsa stew contains hand rolled couscous with an optimal size. The tiny pearls are large enough so they're not gritty and small enough that they're not doughy. The stew itself is tomato based, nice and savory, with spinach, and warmed by gentle spices and seasonings. The cilantro labneh provides a luscious and creamy topping for the meatballs. Dining Area: The snug spot has a handful of tables inside and outside, plus a bar and counter. Parking: The giant strip mall (is it really even a strip mall?) has a big lot with many open spaces.

This place is so special! The ambiance is lovely, the staff are attentive, and the food and wine were very high quality. I ordered the Terramagna Sillares Syrah blend and my sister got the Xarmant Txakolina. Both were delicious! The Syrah blend was very rich and intense, and the txakolina was crisp and smooth. We ordered the moussaka, roasted cauliflower, and pappardelle. Each one was full of unique flavor and texture. The pappardelle noodles are made in house! Everything tasted very flavorful and fresh. We ended the night with the rose trifle for dessert. It was slightly tart and not overly sweet. It was extremely popular with my niece! Overall, we had a wonderful time, and I look forward to coming back.

Our first time here with friends for my birthday. We heard lots of great things about this restaurant. This is a very authentic Mediterranean *Tunisian flavored and inspired menu. The chefs are creative, but most of all passionate about what they put on their plates. The flavors are packed and the spices are unique to the region of North Africa. Love the use of cous-cous and quinoa and their sauces. Just enough acidity and fats and salt. The branzino was cooked to perfection. The mussels and dips/bread starters were delicious as well. My wife loved the chicken dark meat and potatoes. She stated that it was a bit salty but she is sensitive to well seasoned foods. Anyway, the service was great and the atmosphere was very nice. It was busy for a Sunday night at a location that you could easily drive right by. The inside is nicely decored and the lighting is very nice. Would definitely recommend this place for the incredible food and ambiance. Overall, we loved this place at first glance/taste. Enjoy!

hand of fatima

Highly recommend the falafel sliders! Amazing texture and flavor of the falafel paired with a delicious sauce 5/5 for sure! We also enjoyed the hand of fatima with the crusty bread - the bread was really warm and fresh, loved the hummus and pesto dips especially. The lamb meatballs were juicy but the couscous on the bottom wasn't my favorite. The spritz and golden hour drinks were good but i think we could've skipped the bread pudding. The atmosphere was lively though it can be a little loud. The manager seemed to know everyone and greeted the tables which was nice, although some of the service seemed a little rushed. Overall a decent place to come with friends and enjoy some dips and sliders!

Lamb meatballs with labneh

Roasted cauliflower and other veggies were great. The lamb meatballs was so good with labneh and accoutrements. The beef cheek cous cous was so soft and tender. The waiters were very attentive and helpful in the menu selection. The moussaka and beet hummus were super good! The shrimp and grits had a lot of flavor and not too much heaviness on their take. The noise is a bit loud so it's a bit hard to hear and they have live music nights!

De Soi Golden Hour (non-alcoholic)
Lisa Y.

If you're looking for something different in the South Bay, I'd recommend trying Barsha! They serve Tunisian food, which was my first time having. We started off with some non-alcoholic apertifs that sounded really interesting! The De Soi Purple Lune has dark fruit, rose, Gentian root, Ashwagnda, green tea, and black pepper. The De Soi Golden Hour has pear, yuzu, earl grey tea, bergamot, lemongrass, maca, and elderflower. For appetizers, we got the Housemade Farmers Cheese, which was nice and creamy. It comes with roasted beets, charred tomato, balsamic grapes, pistachio, and a side of sliced bread. We also got the Chicken Liver Pate, served with pistachio and a seasonal compote, as well as bread. Would get this again! For small bites, we got the Roasted Eggplant. It's mixed with heirloom tomato, caramelized onion, balsamic, and almond with a side of bread. This was quite tasty! I definitely recommend their Falafel Sliders! These come with caramelized and pickled onion, tabil aioli, cucumber, feta, and labheh on a toasted slider bun. For items from the "Bigger Bites" section of the menu, we go the Lamb Meatballs that come in a M'hamsa stew with cous cous and labneh. We also got the Moussaka, an eggplant stew with tabil bechamel, parmesan, and croutons on top. I enjoyed this dish! This was a good amount of food for a group of four people! Everything is set up to be shared with the exception of the sliders. They also have live music that happens on select Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We left just as they were setting up the stage, but I'd love to come back to enjoy the food and music!

Hi! Is the meat Zabiha Halal?

It would appear the Lamb meets Halal standards and the chicken is in the process of getting there. No word on their beef though. Great question!

Hi! Is your restaurant zabiha halal?

Given reviews say the wine pours are "generous", I'd imagine it isn't halal. Sorry.

Do you have happy hour?

Hi Lauren, thank you for your inquiry. unfortunately we don’t at the moment. Best regards,…

Do you take reservations?

Yes they do

Can you bring your own bottle of wine?

Yes you can! Our corkage fee is $30. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Do they offer gift cards or gift certificates?

Hello, yes we do! For our restaurant in Hermosa you can call 424-452-6266. And for our wine shop / wine bar in Manhattan Beach you can call 310-318-9080. Happy Holidays!

I'd love to see a copy of their nightly takeout family meals if the restaurant can post them.?

Posted here! Not sure how often they update the weekly menu options but they are good at updating the website. Actually just picked up their pot pie dinners tonight! Enjoy!…

The restaurant itself is a bit disjointed, when one walks in, do you go up or downstairs, after that it's a beautiful place..The staff was very friendly & helpful.. The restaurant & restrooms were clean, important to me.. As mentioned the service was great, as for the menu, imo, it was a bit sparse, and not cheap..For example, the one burger was $22.00, seemed expensive to me, when we go to many restaurants offering burgers and generally speaking the range is $16-$19.00, well, that may be true but this beef & pork burger was delicious, albeit a bit small..My wife's breakfast was very good as well.. So, up until we ordered all was just fine, yet our meals took a very long time to get out to us, we never said a word to any of the wait staff, yet finally the GM, Michael come over, apologies & explained the reason for the wait..Which he admitted should not have been, then offered us champagne as a way of apologizing..Again we said nothing to anyone, so Michael did his job & did it with grace & professionalism..We won't forget that either, and will be back soon.. I would highly recommend having lunch or dinner at Baleens, you won't be disappointed..

The place is really cute, clean and just a little upscale - great for locals and visitors alike. As we seated, we ordered our drinks. They were all great and quickly served. They do know how to make a nice, dirty martini. We started with the house made focaccia and cheddar biscuits. That focaccia was warm, light and delicious with butter. Everyone loved it. Then, the biscuits showed up and stole the show. Order the biscuits. I ordered the sea scallops dish, very tasty and light. The other standout on the table was the Monday night special of fried chicken. My peer and boss split that dish and it was plenty. Half of a chicken, perfectly battered and fried! For dessert, we all shared the cheesecake and budino. Very cute place for brunch events as well. All of the staff were very good and multiple people helped serve the table. Go there, get some. Just a place to kill time while my iPhone and watch clawed back to life. The bar was empty, except for the bartender, quietly gliding between folding towels and polishing glassware like it was ritual. I'd missed breakfast, so the plan had to shift. The Turkey Club caught my eye--classic, no fuss. I ordered it, skipping the tomato and avocado, and added a side Caesar for balance. Simple, solid, exactly right for that in-between kind of afternoon. Later that evening, I came back to pregame--needed something to smooth the edges. I was headed into a house full of strangers, stepping into a holiday tradition I barely understood. Tito's and tonic felt like exactly what the doctor would've prescribed--crisp, clean, just the right amount of courage in a glass. The pour was generous, and before long, I felt the lock in my head click open. Wit, charm, one-liners--I could feel the entertainer in me stirring, ready to trade in the quiet for something electric. The bartender--sharp-eyed and perceptive--caught the thirst in me and asked if I was ready for another. I didn't hesitate, even knowing happy hour was just a concept, not a deal. His delivery of the bad news was so dry, so perfectly timed, I laughed and handed over my card without blinking. Sometimes, a good drink and a better exchange are worth the markup.

That experience, you ask? Making monjayaki! Monjayaki, as I was Googling it, as described as, and I wholeheartedly agree, the "wet, sloppy, soupy" cousin to Okonomiyaki, hilariously enough. I've seen monjayaki mentioned in a lot of manga and anime like March Comes in Like a Lion, DANDADAN, Otaku Elf, and even Persona 5. What makes Happa even more unique though, and because the okonomiyaki restaurants don't do this, is that they let you cook the monja ingredients yourself. They bring out the griddle hot plate, you can scan the QR code, and then follow the instructions to cook! A lot of confusion, not the most visually appealing pictures, but it was a fun process and for all my food adventures in SoCal, this was a first for us! Also thank you to the staff that eventually stepped in to let us know we don't need to mix anymore and to turn off the grill to let us know it was ready. You're a real one. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Broiled Tara Miso: -Broiled miso marinated black cod. -Moist and fluffy piece of fish. Decent portion for a snack to eat while drinking. Comes with a lemon slice. Nice sweet savory miso flavor. 2) Mabo Monja: -This comes with the cabbage and monjya base as well as the toppings and ingredients needed for the mabo flavor (mabo seasoned ground meat, tofu, green onions, etc.). -There's 2 small spatulas you use to cook and eat with, but be careful, it's really, really hot! -I'm not sure what making the circle dam is and pouring in the liquid was for as I'm not a cook versus just pouring everything in at once, but it looked like what it was supposed to and the staff didn't cut in immediately (positive). -Savory, slightly sour due to the mabo taste, not numbing, but great umami taste. Not too salty either so we didn't feel like we needed any rice, slightly gooey, runny texture (avoid this if it's not your thing) with the crips edges. My brother enjoyed this more than regular okonomiyaki as it's more protein and savory taste and less cabbage. Worth trying at least once. -Though, this was barely enough for 2 adults and we were not even super hungry, so keep this in mind if you come here starving or with a large party (maybe not the best idea to go to an izakaya or drinking focused restaurant if that's the case). Altogether, with tax and tip, this was around $60, which is pretty steep considering the amount of food we got, but it is what it is and it's more of the experience than anything. Parking is easy, you can park inside the hotel parking structure. Just wait for the gates to open. The restaurant has outdoor patio dining, a regular dining area, and a nicer area if you plan to drink. We didn't plan to drink so we dined in the regular area. Reminds us of a bit older, aged take out restaurant, so nothing fancy, super low key. Hopefully, one day we can go dine in the nicer area.
