It's been a long week and I needed some comfort food. I was in the South Bay this weekend and decided to look for a place to get a good gyro. I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon, where a few other patrons were already dining. The seating has around 6 or so tables inside that can fit around 4 each, and they also have high chairs for children! I ordered a number 17, which is the gyro, and got a side of hummus and pita then found a table to sit at. I had just finished buckling my child into the high chair when my order was delivered to my table! They are super fast here! The super friendly waiter delivered my meal, and I dug in. The gyro was stuffed with meat! This is a huge deal, since a lot of places skimp and don't give enough. So extra points to Al Hamra for a job well done. The flavor of the meat was juicy and well seasoned, super delish! The hummus and pita was good, although I usually add a bit of spices to my hummus so this one was a little plainer than I'm used to. Either way, it was a nice addition to the meal. The grand finale were the desserts! I usually go for baklava, but decided to try the knafeh, a layered cheese dessert with syrup and pistachios. Get the knafeh! The warm cheese and syrup were so delicious and made for the perfect ending to a good meal! Our friend, who's been coming here for years, highly recommended Al Hamra and we weren't disappointed! The food was full of flavor, and the portions were generous. Our group of four adults and two kids came in starving. I had the chicken kabob wrap, which was a perfect burrito-sized meal, while my husband enjoyed a beef and chicken kabob plate that fully satisfied his appetite. Honestly, the highlight for me was the warm pita served with garlic mayo, so much better than the cold or room-temperature pitas you often get at otherMediterranean spots. Someone that works there was on their phone, walking in and out - speaking in Farsi or Persian about who knows what.... after waiting I figured that they can stick their kabobs up their ass. Hole in the wall/mom and pop deliciousness. Wonderful Mediterranean food when you need something quickly. We got our food to go and I was pleasantly surprised with my falafel wrap meal with Greek salad. They add pickled beets to their salads and it was a nice touch of texture and flavor - along with a boost for gut health. My son said his kabob combo meal was the best Mediterranean food he's ever had and I believe him- he's picky. Perfect baklava too! read more

Al Hamra Kabob is a solid option if you're craving good, straightforward kabobs. The food is consistently good and flavorful, and the owner is very friendly, which always makes the experience more welcoming. The inside is nicer than you might expect, with a great mural, attractive pendant lighting, and some cool tile work. You order at the counter, but eating in is pleasant enough and comfortable. There are several similar kabob spots in the area, and while Al Hamra competes well, it's not a place I go to all the time. I've been wanted to try this place out for a while now after seeing the reviews. I came in for a to-go order for dinner and just got one plate. There are a few tables and seating inside and you just order at the counter. My food came out really quickly, like less than 5 minutes and the workers were all very nice. I got the chicken shawarma plate which came with pita bread, hummus, a salad, and rice. The portion size was good with a lot of meat however the meat and rice together was a bit dry. It came with one garlic sauce and a spicy sauce which were both a little overpowering so I didn't use too much of them. I wish there was like a yogurt garlic white sauce or something. The pita and salad were good but honestly not the best I've had. I think the reviews are a little overrated. read more

I got the lamb gyro wrap with 1 side (salad with dressing in the side for $12.99), as that is the thing they identified at not having garlic. It was excellent and they were so sweet and accommodating with my allergy. Also, their tzatziki sauce does not have garlic either... double bonus!!! Food is always the best here. The rice is fluffy, perfect and seasoned. The service is always top notch. The owner and the staff are always accommodating and always let us try a little if we are unsure of the dish. The environment is very intimate as there is little space inside. However beware it does get really hot inside. The kitchen and dining are all one big room so you definitely feel the heat. We love coming here. I have been going to Al Hamra Kabob Grill for 5 years, and I have never had a bad meal. As far as service is concerned, the young gentleman working there invariably provides excellent customer service and has a great smile when taking orders. While other restaurants' prices are soaring, Al Hamra's prices and portion sizes are holding steady and the portions remain generous. Service can be lackluster but we usually order takeout from here. Taste wise, it's hit and miss as the meats are cooked on a rotating spit and can be on the dry side and seasonings can leave a pasty texture at times. The garlic sauce is a bonus and enhances the flavor of their dishes. While this place is not necessarily one of my go-to restaurants, I would not object if someone in my party wants to go there. read more

My favorite item was probably the baba ghanoush, super smoky and one of the best I've had (comparable to Bavel), this is a must get. The manager(?) was also incredibly sweet and friendly; we ordered a piece of baklava and she gave it to us on the house as first timers. The baklava was really good (not too sweet) and very nutty. Overall delicious food, friendly service, reasonable prices. Came here because it was recommended for people who like Borjstar and it came through! I ordered Togo the person on the phone was really knowledgeable and accomadting. The place was really cute. Beef Nihari I wouldn't trade a minute of it in taste but I'm so glad I got the falafels since the beef nihari But the addicting kind where you can't stop eating the food.
