Shout out to Max who was our waiter. He also knows the wine list inside and out, yes he can pour beer, but the guy is a legendary mixologist as well. How do I know? We went more than once, which is something we have rarely done with Vail restaurants as most are overpriced without excuse and poor quality service, but for Barrio, Max and the squad brought an amazing level of service and exquisite plates for multiple visits. My wife had the prix fixe menu which changed between the nights we were there and was delightful. I had the organic chicken and the Iberico pork. Both times were perfection. Here's the revelation that this place brings quality every night. I got the organic roast chicken the first night in order to just have something inoffensive that my daughter (3 y/o) could eat from my plate. It was so perfectly cooked with a nice balance of acidity, salt, and a touch of sweetness with acidity with wonderfully tender and juicy chicken that my daughter ate over half of the chicken (a rare occurrence). The menu is exquisite. The service is world class. Joshua H. was incredibly knowledgeable about both the cocktail and dinner menus, and helped make the entire experience feel dialed in from start to finish. We had the Pappardelle pasta and the pan-seared cod. Both were delicious, but let me be very clear: that cod is due up for a Michelin nod. I finally tried this place after years of walking past it, and probably won't go back. Although the food didn't taste bad, the menu is limited with very few healthy options. I ordered the beet salad with a side of grilled chicken. There was literally one cup of salad with less than a beet and a samll amount of goat cheese. For the price, I expected at least enough to make a meal out of it. It tasted fine but lacked ingredients. My friend ordered the fried calamari sandwich. I tried this and while it was tasty, it was mostly bread and the calamari was heavily coated, almost like a tempura calamari. It is unfortunate because the location is excellent, and they seem to have invested a lot of money in the space. I hope that they will take these comments and adapt. However, not sure if it was the shrimp we ordered, but both me and the person I was dining with were a bit sick afterwards. I wonder if the shrimp might have been stored for too long ? Unethical and unknowledgeable for allergies and dietary restrictions. If you have an allergy, do not dine here. I have celiac disease, I mentioned this several times to the host and waiter: I ensured they understood it's a severe gluten allergy that I cannot have any cross contamination with, this establishment assured I would be safe and they would find gluten free items I could eat safely. After serving me a seafood dish, and confirming it was gluten free, they told me they used gluten free soy sauce, I asked one more time. They checked again and "realized" there is wheat in soy sauce apologized for serving me a dish with gluten, soy sauce, specifically. After this, they charged us for our meal. The least they could do was compensate us for the 3 items we ordered. Never have I had an experience like this, I will not dine or recommend people to dine here again. read more

People who visit Vail often already knew this, but on our first visit we discovered there's a bit of a situation with the restaurants and especially on Sundays. Though there are a number of upscale dining options, they follow hours that are intuitive to the area but not necessarily to first time visitors. After a long day of traveling, we were eager to get in there, see Vail Village, and grab a bit to eat. Barrio Social was one of the few places actual open and serving more than ski aprés. We were delighted with our entire meal. The potatoes, shrimp, and scallops were well prepared, seasoned, and plated. The dining area is beautifully decorated, and even though there were not many people in it was very enjoyable. The cocktail menu was strong, too. This was our 2nd or 3rd time at Barrio, my wife and daughter love it. I could take it or leave it, the food in Vail, in general has declined in quality since COVID. My daughter and I both had red snapper, which was pretty good. It was served on top of some kind of giant lima beans, which were great. My wife had the whole bronzini (one of our favorite dishes), but it was somehow deboned before cooking and was a little dried out. It was also a very small fish for $62. read more

My husband and I hadn't been to this spot before and we loved it! The items from La Bottega on their menu, combined with their unique menu, make for a wonderful variety of things to choose from. Hell, we liked it so much -- the food, the service, the ambiance -- that we came back multiple times in our two week stay! Situated right on Meadow, you can sit on the patio and people watch, stare at the beautiful mountains, or enjoy their luxe and lovely interior. We sat outside each time because, well, why not! My favorite dishes were the tartare and the chorizo croquets -- god, I wish I could ship myself some of those croquets! The gnocchi was delightful as well, which I got on a whim, and my husband couldn't get enough of the La Bottega steak and cheese. All were absolutely delicious and had great serving sizes so we could all share. For the entree, I got the black cod and highly recommend it. Finally, we finished off with the chocolate mousse for dessert, which was an excellent way to finish the evening. We started with a cappuccino and pineapple rosemary juice - both of which were delicious. For our meal we ordered the Francesinha Rustic and the Chicken and Waffles. The flavors of both dishes were wonderful. The Francesinha was savory and hearty while not being too heavy. The potatoes were perfectly crispy. The chicken and waffles was honestly the best I've ever had! Made with chicken thighs which made for moist and flavorful chicken and a waffle that had that sugar crunch you always crave with waffles and so rarely get.
