Tried La Nonna Ristorante Vail with a group of 8 (including kids) and had a nice time with great meal. Good spot for families and date nights--sure the views would be amazing in the evenings. Mushroom ravioli with truffle really stood out. Rigatoni arrabbiata and Alfredo were fresh but pretty standard. Squash soup and focaccia basket were good starters. Service and ambience were great, though the table felt a bit tight for a larger group. Our server was attentive and suggested us good vegetarian options from the menu. Quick helpful service, amazing place to see the sunset, and great chef specials. I understand why t books out in advance. We were able to snag a last minute reso at 5 o'clock thanks to a cancellation and we enjoyed the whole experience. Lovely staff, plus our food was quick and delicious. We got the gemelli which was great in its simplicity, and the perfect about of sauce, along with the chef special risotto which had scallops, asparagus and sun dried tomato's. The scallops were cooked to perfection, which isn't easy, and left us wanting more. Portion sizes were great, we only got two entrees and did not leave feeling hungry, however their appetizer menu looked great and will definitely try some more items on future visits! read more

Everything about this meal was lovely. It was super cozy inside for a winter day and we were seated by a large window where we could look down on the town. The staff was kind and funny and let us sit there and unwind after a day of skiing. It's a two story building so you do a coat check with someone downstairs (make sure you say hi to the cute dog there) and then Mae your way upstairs to the bar and restaurant. No complaints about the food, it was so delicious and we were trying everyone's dishes. The calamari was the star of the show and everyone loved their pastas. The sorbet was divine and while the bill was pricy, the quality of the food matched the cost. read more

Some hits and some misses The hits: my mushroom ravioli was orgasmic, especially if you like truffles. Also their focaccia was excellent however they charge for the bread. This should have been complimentary as virtually all restaurants do. The lavender dream cocktail was very good as well. - refreshing and not too sweet. The ambiance , bar and artwork were very nice. The misses: we ordered the special veal piccata and I'm still trying to figure what they were thinking. ( see picture ). It looked more like veal Marsala but with no flavor. We asked the waitress and she said oh they add a demi-glacé sauce - well that's not veal piccata which is typically nice and lemony. The Ceasar salad was marginal at best and we split it but they bought out a salad on one plate. Fortunately we asked them to cut it in half and they did. Another miss was our waitress - she never even came by and asked us how our meal was but she would come by and weirdly tuck the napkin in and around the remaining bread in the bread basket without saying a word and the. My friends and I had a wonderful time at La Nonna. I had heard mixed reviews beforehand, so I went in with low expectations, which may have made the food and ambiance feel even more impressive. For appetizers, we tried the focaccia, burrata, and calamari. The focaccia was diced into small pieces, which I found a bit odd, but it tasted good. The burrata and calamari were delicious--I'd definitely order them again. For the main course, we shared the short rib, mushroom ravioli, and vodka pasta. Everything was stellar. The mushroom ravioli was incredibly rich, so I'm glad I didn't get it as my sole dish. It was fabulous, but too heavy for a whole plate. The short rib with mashed potatoes was delicious, but my favorite was the vodka pasta. Its simplicity was perfect, and it was executed so well. We also tried the tiramisu for dessert, but I could have skipped it. It wasn't bad, just not memorable compared to other tiramisus I've had. As for the service, it was just okay. We had a strange interaction with our server when we asked her to bring olives with my friend's Venetian Spritz since we noticed theirs didn't come with one. She responded by saying it was weird and that she had never heard of it, almost as if she didn't believe us. It was odd because, if you look it up, that's what a Venetian Spritz is. She also took quite a while to check on us between visits, though they were very busy. Overall, the service didn't ruin our experience, but it could have been better. read more

We began with cocktails and some appetizers! Octopus was excellent and tuna was one of the best presentations of tuna crudo o have ever had! Then we had the pasta course and this pasta hater finished her dish / maybe it was the 4 hour hike that preceded this - maybe it was the truffle as I love truffle anything - or maybe it was just that damn good! This place was amazing! We came here after a long day of hot springs hopping and while I wasn't all that hungry when we arrived, I ate more than my share because of how delicious everything was. We arrived around 7pm on a Friday night and were able to find an open spot at the bar but would highly recommend making reservations for a group of more than two (or if you prefer not to be at the bar). We ordered the focaccia, their vegetarian salad, the mushroom ravioli, and the linguine. There wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy! The bread and salad were amazing (I would have the focaccia every day if I could) but the real stars were the pasta. They were cooked perfectly and the cream sauce on the ravioli was literally heaven on Earth. We enjoyed the pastas so much, we even contemplated getting a third pasta dish just to try it but ended up going with the tiramisu which was a great way to end the night (although I wish I had also gotten the third pasta lol). I'm not sure if or when we will be in Vail again but I can't wait to come back when it happens! read more

We got seated right by the kitchen which was very lively and fun but we did feel in the way at times. The food was all worth it though! La Nonna is a lovely, delicious Italian restaurant in Vail Village that is worth a visit if you're wanting a nice dinner out while in Vail. I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation as they are very popular and frequently full. The restaurant is tucked away a bit off the Main Street through vail village so be on the lookout for the sign, but once you go up the stairs, you're in a spacious dining room that makes you feel like you're being welcomed into someone's home. They have an extensive wine list, both by the glass and by the bottle featuring Italian wines, and the staff is knowledgeable about giving recommendations if you're unfamiliar with Italian wines. To start, I had the Caesar salad and the foccacia. The salad came in a presentation I hadn't seen before, with full leaves of iceberg with the cheese and toppings laid on top. The prosciutto (I believe that was what was on the salad) added a delicious crunch and the foccacia cubes were delicious. For a main, I had the wild boar tagliatelle, which is possibly one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. The wild boar is slow braised in Barolo and just melts away. I could have eaten this pasta dish forever if I had more room in my stomach. I had an overall wonderful experience at La Nonna and would recommend it to anyone looking for an upscale dining experience in Vail. read more

Negative... we were seated at a tiny table, crammed into others, I could reach out and touch the lady next to me. Why average food? Not sure, but I would guess there is a lack of herbs and spices. The food was certainly clean, but was bland. The wife had a chicken pasta dish and I had veal piccata. Neither were something we would come back and order again. We have had much, much better at other places. When a couple, dinner for two, go out and spend over $200... you need, you must expect the very best. This restaurant is managed well and I sense they want to be excellent, but you either need to change recipes or the chef's. There is much, much better Italian food out there. read more

Awesome!!! Finally we shared the short rib. And the steak served with perfectly Al dente broccolini and mashed potatoes ( usua an afterthought but here just as delicious as the main) The only missing thing was the dessert list. La Nonna vail was delicious! I came with my mom on a holiday weekend as a party of two and overall, the food was authentic and amazing. However, we likely will not be returning due to the service. Food first (always): we ordered a warm beet salad and the burrata as appetizers. The burrata was simple and delicious; it came with a pesto and some traditional, Italian crackers. We then ordered the mushroom ravioli and the wild boar Ragu for our main entrées. Both dishes were again amazing, but took about 40 minutes to get out of the kitchen. We also ordered a super Tuscan to go with the meal. The wine list is, naturally, Italian-focused and impressive. I believe we had a two hour or 1.5 hour time limit on our table. It was not our fault that the entrées took quite a while to come out. Ultimately we were never offered dessert or espresso at the end of the meal and were instead ushered out. As a party of two our bill was well over $300, $380 I believe). Our wine itself was more than the food. This was bothersome because we likely would've ordered another bottle and quite honestly it was a poor decision on the restaurants part. Again I understand it was a long weekend, but to be a ushered out without being offered dessert or espresso at a traditional Italian restaurant was frustrating. Again, no issues with the food, but the service was lacking. We will likely not be back just based on principle. read more

We arrive at 5 pm on a Friday and it was already attracting a crowd. We were offered a Splendid table on the 2nd floor patio overlooking the main drag (and beyond to the ski slopes) with most welcomed and precious shade. We were ably and courteously served by Max (who has an unmistakable laugh) who guided us along each step of a great meal without hurry. He recommended the split of a most pleasantly surprising Pinot Grigio (the one at the top of the list) that started us perfectly as we considered the menu. What was first served was the best octopus EVER! Tender, not chewy, in a splendid lightly spiced olive oil that we were encourage to sop up with the focaccia, which was lightly toasted. Entrees delivered included a veal scallopine that was topped with a thin slice of pancetta and a white very thin cheese slice. Creamed but stiff mashed potatoes and a garlic sautéed spinach were well matched to the veal. My wife had the Crevette pasta with a side of the same spinach which she enjoyed judged by the few remnants left of either. We spent with tip $100 each. Not bad for Vail Center! Google takes you to the front of another restaurant at street level. La Noona is on the second floor with it's entrance located back from the intersection 300' +/- up a wee bit off a wide pedestrian alley. read more

The place was pretty high end, had great atmosphere and included a coat check. We all ordered a drink each, shared an appetizer (MISTO MARE alla GRIGLIA) and pasta dish each. I didn't think the appetizer was anything to write home about and was rather bland if I'm being honest. I had the TAGLIATELLE VERDI al CINGHIALE and while the pasta was good, the portion was quite small. Solid Italian spot in Vail Village! La Nonna seems to be the only real quality Italian spot in Vail Village. The night I was there it was packed at 6pm. So much so that a small cramped spot at the bar was the only thing available. Like most restaurant sin the village, they all shut down for nearly a month by mid-October just before the ski season onslaught. Luckily this was literally one week from their annual closing. It doesn't "speak" Italian with the decor or music, but the vibe of the place is completely "locals" feeling. The calamari was spot on, as was the accompanying marinara sauce. Their pasta and bolognese sauce was really good, perhaps not great, but I left with the idea that most items on their menu are probably pretty good. BTW, the spot at the bar wasn't a bad place to be as they have some of the most efficient bartenders I have ever seen! read more
