Help write a review: A group of us have been going to the same bar and restruant every Thursday for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, this bar/restaurant changed managment is just not the same. We are on the look out for our next location and decided to try Barney's Beanery. You are greated with friendly security. Upon entering the bar area is very hip, a celing with license plates from accross the nation, sting lights and the tables have picturs of 60's and 70's bands and singers. The main cliental are 20/30-somethings. We are a group of GenX and Booms. The music playing was a variety of 70's to present top 40. We came on a Thursday and they had kerioki down stares and there are pool tables up stairs. We had a problem finding seating for our group. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating and our sever, Peter P helped us find a table that worked. We were very impressed by the beer offerings and menue. The wine menue was a bit limited, however. They serve breakfast all day and several at our party orded the eggs bendeict and bagle sandwitch. Another orderer fish and chips and I had their Juciy Burger that is their stuffed with cheese. The food exceeded our expectations for a bar. I can say the burger was amazing and the fries were awesome, crispy and well seasoned... I sould come back just for the beer and fires. We were very impressed with the staff, especially our server, Peter P. He was very friendly and went out of his way to accommodate us. We had one issue where it looked like the kitchen lost our order of fish and chips. Peter was on top of it and got it out right away. The only negative is that we are there to sit, eat and drink. I checked this place out over the weekend since a coworker recommended it. I like the decor and the vibes of the place but it felt dead when I went for drinks around lunch time on a Saturday. A lot of seating but not a lot of people dining or drinking there. I got the mezcalarita since I liked mezcal and it was alright. If you want to have a beer, this isn't too bad a spot. It's a sports-themed bar that's frequented by a younger crowd and the occasional celeb. I saw Oscar De La Hoya here once. The food? Well, it's not good, even for bar food. Everything is just hastily put together and just not quality. I've let it slide for a while because the wait staff is usually good, and they have decent happy hour prices and a full bar, but this recent visit was just bad. My friend and I each ordered a dozen wings. The wings came in a reasonable amount of time. But, they were overcooked. Well overcooked. Practically inedible. Some pieces were so over-fried that it felt like biting into wood. Both of our plates were like that. Not sure how any kind of decent cook would serve that to people. I spent most of the time picking out pieces from the bone that wouldn't tear up my mouth, and I just quit after a while. I let the waitress know how bad the wings were and she said, "oh, ok, sorry about that" and took our plates away. And that was that. The only redeemable quality here is that they do practice sound social distancing measures and space everyone outdoors accordingly. The wait staff are very attentive and hard working as well. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I understand that we came out on a busy day (Rose Parade), but that didn't give them the right to skip us. I hate to jump to the conclusion of being profiled, but we were definitely the only "brown" table and were not being served at all. 30 minutes into being seated and being the FIRST table out in the patio, no one had taken our drink order. 4 other tables came after us and crazy to say, but the woman who introduced herself as the manager that morning would look directly at us and stop for a second and continue to walk away. She had zero issue serving the table full of w sugar d's if you get what I'm saying. Every table that came after us had their drinks and food way before we did. Our food order was taken before the drinks and even after finishing the food, our driks still hadn't came out. Needless to say, they forgot to put the drink order in because the server tried to make an excuse that she added it as a separate bill. When the food came out, the man who handed me my burger and fries, shoved it towards me in such a rude manner. Then proceeded to ask if I needed anything. I asked him for syrup for my daughter's pancakes and he responded with, "Well that would be nice wouldn't it?" umm yeah, who tf eats pancakes dry? We were a party of four on Saturday night around 8 pm. The server was nice and attentive. The drinks were subpar but the pizza was delish! Chili is a must try! We were A little older than the median patron so the music wasn't to our taste. At 9pm they have karaoke on the lower basement level. Looks like a great time we will definitely go back for that. Lots of people in the downstairs tiki setting bar having a good time. By 9pm only one table was left to sit at downstairs so it is a popular place to go. Upstairs on the second floor is a pool hall and additional bar. Unfortunately, the music is the same as the first level DJ after 10pm. Love this Barney's. Think it's the best one in LA. Has 3 levels with different vibes. Basement is a tikibar that has trivia and karaoke. Ground floor is a sports bar that has a fun little double decker bus you can sit in along with a couple classic bar games like pool. Top floor is a pool lounge and has a fun patio. They have a ton of beers on draft and an insane amount of TVs. A lot of the tables on the ground floor even have small ones in the booth you can adjust the channel yourself on. Unfortunately, while sitting on the side patio, staff from restaurant, the Kebob Restaurant, Lav Shash, decided to stand outside the patio and smoke. Ruining it for 4 tables. He was within 20 feet, which is against Pasadena Smoking ordinance. Don't recommend Lav Shash as the waitstaff does not follow city ordinances. But don't miss Barney's. A staple in Los Angeles culture for decades has become a Christmas Day tradition for my family and me. We walked in as they opened. No one checked our vaccine card. The family that entered behind us weren't even wearing masks! We had a friendly server. We ordered wings and fried pickles for starters. And the obligatory Bloody Mary. So far so good. When the lunch order arrives the burgers that had been ordered medium came crispy black. The impossible burger was perfect. The fish and chips were good as well. Great sports bar with a wide range of channels. There is a personal TV per table and the staff is very accommodating about changing the channel so that your preferred game is in your sight line. Great atmosphere, great food/drink selection - we ordered carne asada fries and Mac and Cheese sliders. The staff is very polite and since there are a lot of TVs around it's easy to support your favorite sports team. The ambiance is upbeat, casual, and overall extremely personable. The food was pretty bad. Ordered the "special" which was three fish tacos. The fish was frozen, breaded filets, fried and put in a tortilla with a little shredded cabbage on top. The "salsa" looked like it came from a jar. Very disappointing. The service was okay, but we ended up having to get our own straws and at the end of the meal getting up and looking for someone to get a check from. The ambiance is great, love the decor. The only good thing about having to wait so long for everything was the chance to look at all the sports and music posters on the wall. This is another review written during the aftermath of the worst of the pandemic and its impact on hospitality. We don't go to Barney's for a gourmet meal. We go for the atmosphere and for Old Town Pasadena, the best open secret in greater Los Angeles. First of all, it's casual and festive. A wonderful vintage rock mix blares overhead, just loud enough to make you want to get up and dance, but not so much so as to kill conversation. I wish I could clone their playlist. The menu has always been diner-level overdone and fun. They have understandably had to cut back but it is still ample and has my favorite things on it like Huevos Rancheros and a vegetarian option for Eggs Benedict. I chose an avocado melt and mozzarella sticks with dipping sauce instead. Others at our table had gigantic omelets served with toast and hash browns. The portions are large but not obscene and the quality is good, sometimes very good. I was happy that my sandwich came with a sourdough rye-pumpernickel combo, my favorite. The table was spotless, the utensils wrapped in napkins and we were given their usual stack of extras. The plates were immaculate too, but since Covid is still lurking around, I wiped everything down again. All the wait staff wore masks. We were able to snag a seat on the indoor/outdoor corridor that has a fresh breeze all the time, due to its being between two open doors. The poolroom/bar atmosphere was intact and people were cheering a hockey game that was displayed on the overhead screens throughout. The waitress was very friendly --all smiles-- and attentive. We never had to wait for service or extras even one minute, she was always nearby without hovering. Given what she and the other staff have been through this year, we gave her a generous thankyou tip. What can I say? Barney's reminds me of the upbeat "joints" we frequented in college. And, it is on the busiest and most inviting street in Pasadena where we were heartened to see the almost-usual crowd, most wearing masks. The weather, as it usually is in Pasadena, was gorgeous, i.e., in the low 80's, sunny and gently breezy. We came for the best bookstore on the West Coast, Vromans, and amped up the day by having a late lunch here. What more can we ask? read more

I was at Barney's on 2/22/2023 for an association event I belong to. Barney's let us use their new Tiki room downstairs and it was a perfect spot for us. We had about 22 people and the room was quite large. There was plenty of room for us to walk around and talk with one another. When we ordered appetizers, it took around 15 to minutes from order to food on the table. Very quick. All in all, a good experience and venue for us. I believe we would have had more attendees and I'm certain the rain affected us. That had nothing to do with Barney's though. read more

My friends and I had a reservation that fell through and decided to walk-in at Barney's. While it was busy inside, we got a table right away. There are TVs everywhere so you can watch your favorite game and the place has a cool, chaotic vibe. Our waitress gave us time to look over the menu and we placed our drink orders first, then when we received our drinks we ordered food. I ended up ordering the Mish-Mosh scramble (they serve breakfast all day). We waited about 30 minutes for our food. Luckily we were having a great time talking and catching up, and when we made eye contact with the waitress she informed us the kitchen was backed up. However when we got our food, it was hot and my scramble was delicious! The hash browns were perfectly crisp and I thought it was a great meal for $14. Getting there: Located on the main street of Colorado in downtown Pasadena; street parking can be hard to find on a busy night, but you might be able to find some a few blocks down then walk over. Experience: This was the only place open for a late night snack and hangs so we decided to stop by. Originally, we wanted to see if the tiki bar was open, but it was not so we sat at the normal bar when you walk in. We ordered a drink and some mozzarella sticks. It was pretty dead, but it was a Monday so that was expected. They have a cool outdoor patio with TVs as well. They also have a separate bar upstairs, but it was closed also when we went.
