Clearman's Galley, aka The Boat, has been around since 1968, initially on Huntington Drive near Rosemead Blvd, I think where the custom floor store is now (was formerly a Kohl's). I remember being entranced by the red boat exterior whenever we passed by. Sometime after 2007, the Galley moved around the corner on Rosemead Blvd just south of snow-topped sister Clearman's North Woods Inn. A driveway to the parking lot and a small, very cute fire station separate the two. The signature boat is still out front, but is decorative only; the Galley is now a huge space behind it and is pretty much a family-friendly sports bar. There are massive TV screens, plus some smaller ones, and much sports photos and memorabilia throughout. And there are a number of classic model boats, including the Titanic! The tchotchkes are of course mostly LA-centric and professional; I didn't see any collegiate items, although they surely show big college games in season. I remember The Galley service being cafeteria-style, and the two "tracks" you'd move your tray along are still present, but now only accessible to staff. Diners place their order with a person or at a kiosk, and you are given a number to place on your table, fast-casual style. There is a full bar with bartender and barstools. There are also cocktail menus on all the tables, but I don't know if you order these at the bar or if someone comes around to take you order. The food menu is classic and broad, with apps, salads, burgers, sandwiches, chicken and seafood options. We came for DineLA lunch, just as we did at North Woods Inn a few days ago. There were 3 options for lunch and 2 for dinner, all serving 2 people, plus 3 Family options that serve 4. We chose the Galley Combo for lunch and ordered it to go. It included 2 sandwiches (4 choices--grilled or crispy chicken, beef dip, Philly cheese steak), fries to share and 2 sodas. We also tried their beer-battered zucchini sticks and onion rings. We both got the beef dip sammy with everything (cheese, peppers). It was nice, as was the dipping jus. The wedge fries portion was pretty large, easily shareable. The sodas are refillable if you dine on-site. The zucchini sticks were identical to those at North Woods, but a smaller portion, lesser price and no dipping sauce. The onion rings were okay, not very crispy but the batter was light. Niggle: we were charged $.50 each for the ranch and blue cheese dipping sauces! Overall a nice meal. I'd dine on-site next time for the free soda refills, ketchup, mustard and malt vinegar. There are many items I'd like to try. read more

My husband and I had dinner there last night. The food was OK at best. I ordered a cheeseburger with chili and a blue cheese salad. I got only 1 bite of chili on my burger, and my salad was wet iceberg lettuce with a little bit of dressing. My husband had the fired chicken dinner. The chicken was crisp but had no flavor; needed seasoning badly. I ordered from the kiosk. It actually asked if I wanted to leave a tip! But I realized that someone would be bringing out our food (so tip for them). Also ordered 2 beers from the bar. Again, I left a tip, because the bartenders were very nice. But next time, I'm leaving a very minimal tip when I order food. I wonder why they even have food runners. They should just call a number when your food is ready. When I'm back home and if there is a Dodger game on TV (for those who don't know getting Dodger games isn't the easiest thing to achieve), my first thought is to go to Clearman's Galley. They check enough boxes for my TV sporting event viewing needs. 1. There is a 360 degree offering of TVs. (Great for Sunday Football viewing.) 2. They generally play the sound/audio for the "main" game. Granted the sound is a bit muffled but not many venues offer the audio to a sporting event. 3. The beer is cold and the chili cheese (steak) fries hit just right. And there is plenty of decent bar food available. 4. And there is plenty of parking. (Compared to Old Town Pasadena, the parking situation is extremely favorable.) I've been going to the Galley since there were family style/picnic style seating with sawdust on the ground. This is a great locals hangout. And I was able to convince my boogie friends to come as well. #win read more

First timer today! Lots of parking outside and we stopped in for a late lunch. You order at the front counter and seat yourself so it's very causal and laid back. The turkey and avocado wrap was okay 3/5 because it had barely any avocado but the fried chicken was pretty good. My daughter ordered the Mac and cheese with fries and no complaints there. This place is covered in tvs so it's perfect to watch all sports and have a drink. I'd definitely go back for drinks and try something different on the menu. I can't really speak to service since this isn't a traditional sit down spot but the worker at the counter was decent and the food runner too. Always heard people talk about this place. So I visited this spot twice over last 6 months. I can't find anything on the menu that is edible. Tried the chili. I can think of 5 places with better chili. I tried the clam chowder. Way over salted. Burger, sandwich and salad. Whatevs. You can't trust everyone's taste buds I guess. Clearmans Northwoods is one of my favorite places to dine. They never disappoint. But yesterday I decided to go to "the boat" which basically serves the same foods. We ordered fish n chips, chili cheese burger, and a pastrami burger. The burgers were meh No seasonings like basic salt n pepper at all. The salad dressing seemed a little thinner than normal. Onion rings and cheese bread were fabulous. Fish n chips were good. Overall, I was underwhelmed. But I won't cross them off my list. Maybe it was just a bad day for the cook. I guess I missed getting a picture of the fish because it came late to the table. And wasn't served with the burgers. read more

This place is a true "Place to be" I love it there is only 1 problem, when me and my friends go in to enjoy a game it seems lately the huge screen on the opposite side of the bar always glitches and goes black, it happened while there where exciting plays and we missed them due to the glitch, we might have to start frequenting another establishment for games, Clearman's please do something to fix the problem so we can continue to enjoy all of our baseball, football, and basketball game there PLEASE read more

Overall I enjoyed my experience at Clearman's Galley. I haven't been here since I was a kid, so I was surprised to not walk through the boat like in the past! Now Clearman's is a sportsbar-style restaurant serving favorites from Clearman's Northwoods restaurants. This was a more casual version of Northwoods offerings. The service here was great, but I would note that especially when there is a sports game on, the restaurant is very loud. Great for a night out to watch the game, but definitely made it hard to have conversation. To eat we tried the potato skins (my favorite bite of the meal), the cheeseburger with chilli , and fried chicken dinner. All of their combo options are a great deal because they come with one of Clearman's famous salads and cheese bread. The fried chicken dinner was perfect for two people to share! read more

From the outside, Clearman's Galley looks like a greasy, divey bar, but I would love to tell you that it is not that at all. My family and I met up with some friends here for an NFL playoff game during a rainy day and it was so crowded. There was a line to order food from both the register and self-checkout kiosk. Luckily our friends held down at table for us (no reservations, first come first served) and we didn't have any issue. Due to the rain, they had to close their patio. Because of the sheer number of people inside (every table was filled and it was definitely standing room only this day), we each went to order drinks and food. My fiancé ordered drinks at the bar, and I went to the self-checkout kiosk for food. I ordered mac and cheese from the kids menu for our kiddo, salad and bread for me, and nachos for him. Food came to our table very quickly, and I was pleasantly surprised by the portions! The salad was also very good and the veg was a great quality. Eventually a server came by and let us know we could order more food and drinks through her, so we did just that. She was super patient and was quick. We went on a Saturday afternoon to watch a Dodger game. The ambiance was good as most always is at this place. They now bring the food to your table as you can also order from your table. Wow this place has definitely changed. It's been a favorite for sometime, I'm talking 20 years plus but lately you're better off going to a fast food place since it's what it taste like. Stopped by to get my kid a kids meal since it's what he wanted. When a kid complains you know something's up. His burger was a mess, no taste whatsoever. Fries, not even a bit of salt. Fine we doctored them up and he ate. However, an hour later he's sick to his stomach. He's been fine all day prior to eating this meal. He was sick all afternoon and didn't want dinner. Never again! Came here with a friend. We were intrigued by the boat and nautical theme. The inside was definitely not what we expected. It's just a sports bar inside. Nothing special really. It's a large space with tons of seating inside and outside. Definitely good for large groups or parties. They were playing the Dodgers game when we arrived. Seems it's a local spot for watching the games. You order at the counter and then take a number. They deliver the food to your seat. The prices were kind of outrageous for what it was and the food quality. I got a turkey burger with waffle fries. They were just ok honestly. Probably wouldn't order that again. Most people seem to come to drink anyway, but we didn't order any alcohol this time. The outdoor seating area is actually really nice. And they did have some fun decor like model ships and a sea diver. The boat out front is probably the coolest feature though. I dunno, I guess I was just expecting more. Got in line more than 10mins early - and I literally saw my pickup order waiting on the side of the register area, of which they had ONE PERSON working the register on a holiday, causing the line to go out the door. We came in on a Saturday evening and it was pretty packed due to the FIFA World Cup being on and game 5 of the Spurs vs Knicks but we did find a table within 5 mins of getting in. Our waitress Melodie came to the table and took our order within ten minutes. We didn't wait long for our food and Melodie checked on us often, she was great. The fried chicken was delicious, nice and crispy, definitely recommend! And you cannot skip the cheese bread! You will not regret trying it! It can be pretty noisy but that's to be expected with different games going on!! It's has pretty ample space and they have lots of TVs all around. You can order at the register or get waited. I came here to watch some sports game and honestly, the vibe is pretty good and they have plenty of TV's. We watched the NBA finals here and they were also showing the LA Dodgers came as well. Place was PACKED even for a Monday. Tables is free seating and you order at the front and they deliver food to your table. Drinks are gotten at the bar. In terms of food, I got the pastrami burger and it was pretty good. The pastrami was flavorful and the burger was on par with a burger. I had it with sweet potato fries and that was pretty fire. This is my first visit and love this place. The restaurant is divided into two sections. One section is where you can sit down and have servers to take your order and serves you. The other is where you go find your own table and order from the cashier. The restaurant has a couple of large-screen TVs to broadcast different sports events, which the environment will get kind of noisy but the atmosphere is excited. We opted for the sit down section as the serve yourself section is full. We were served by a lovely and friendly lady. She explained to us the menu and took our order promptly. The food was tasty. I've been going to the "Boat" since I was a little kid and, even though they moved the location, it is pretty much the same..... quality American comfort food at a reasonable price. Went with my Mom and my girl, and we had a great time. I got my usual.....a small 1/2+1/2 Salad and 2 slices of Clearman's Famous Cheese Bread. Always a great lunch. I Love the contrast in flavors involved with the Salad and the Cheese Bread is always to die for. I also enjoyed a nice ice cold schooner of Aloha Warrior.....refreshing and delicious! My Fiance got Grilled Fish Tavos, Rice and a small 1/2+1/2 Salad, which she thoroughly Loved. Mom raved about her Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which she nearly finished. Staff was friendly, arrived late afternoon early dinner. Tables were clean and easy to order with cashier or use a kiosk. Food came relatively quickly but we ordered early and it wasn't too busy not sure when a sports game would be on if it would be as fast. Parking is plentiful but if it's during a weekend and sports are playing come early. TVs everywhere and they have decorative different types of ships and artwork and sports memorabilia and a full bar. Bench seating high top seating available. It's got a fun theme infused with plenty of Kobe tributes that really captures the essence of LA. The staff is incredibly friendly, and our food arrived quickly and without a hitch. Everything was incredibly tasty and definitely worth every penny! Since this restaurant doubles as a bar, we couldn't resist trying out a couple of drinks - a Dogerita and a Stone IPA.
