So we rolled up to Barn Thai on a random Tuesday, stomachs growlin', hearts open, dreams big... and yo, this place delivered. Well, not literally delivered, cuz I actually had to walk inside like a responsible adult, but ya know what I mean. I grabbed the Pad See Ew, cuz listen... flat rice noodles, sweet soy sauce, eggs, broccoli? That combo never misses. And hot damn, these noodles were silky little flavor boats, carrying me straight down the River of Deliciousness™. Sauce perfectly balanced, just enough char to make you question whether you've been living noodles wrong your entire life. Meanwhile, my lady friend ordered something else... maybe Pad Thai? Or maybe she said Pad Thai but secretly meant "I want bites of your Pad See Ew instead." Relationship trust levels tested. Jury still out. And I gotta say -- place is comfy. Lighting's mellow, vibe is chill, nobody hovering over you asking every 0.2 seconds, "How's everything tasting?" Bruh... it's noodles. They're tasting like noodles. We good. One tangent real quick: why does every Thai spot in the Bay look tiny from the outside, then you walk in and suddenly it's like stepping into a Doctor Who time portal? Infinite tables. Hidden corners. Random glowing Buddha in the back. I half expected to find a speakeasy where they only serve secret curry specials and mango sticky rice under candlelight. Anyway... Barn Thai. I liked it. Food hits, service solid, and you're not gonna need to sell your kidney to cover the bill, which is a refreshing Bay Area rarity these days. Barn Thai is down the street from my work, so I drove over one afternoon to give them a try. I only knew about it, because some coworkers had lunch from there, and they said I should check it out. You order and pay at a kiosk when you first walk in. The kiosk was easy to use and allowed you to select spice level, protein, etc. You pay, add a tip, and designate if you want to eat there or take your food to go. I ordered Chicken Pad See Ew to go. Pad See Ew is not a spicy dish, but you could still customize it to make it so, if you wish. After I paid, I walked around the shopping center to see what else was available. I received a text when my food was ready, and it was pretty quick. When I got back to work, I was pleasantly surprised to find a little deep-fried egg roll. That was a nice treat. The noodles had very little color, were bland, and didn't have the traditional gai lan. There were a couple of pieces of broccoli and a few strips of carrot, but that's it. I was disappointed. I don't know if I visited on an off day, but my first experience with Barn Thai does not leave me feeling like I need to rush back to try anything else. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again, but I think I'd prefer looking for a different Thai restaurant. read more

This place is only open for limited hours lunch and dinner on weekdays, so I wanted to give it a try when I had half a day off. The roti appetizer was tasty, not as oily as other places, and the curry sauce had great flavor although was a little thin. Green curry was nice and flavorful although it had peas in it which was unusual and maybe not my favorite but the actual curry base was good. Basa fish was pretty salty but went well with the curry and there was a good sized portion of fish in the curry. Pad see ew was a good portion size, although a bit skimpy on the tofu and vegetable proportion relative to the noodles. Service was very pleasant, several indoor and outdoor tables available for seating. Relatively quiet on a Friday at lunch, only two other couples were there. Nice affordable Thai spot, limited hours and food was pretty standard for Bay Area. read more

Barn Thai is located in a fairly good-sized shopping plaza. There is plenty of parking available. Small family restaurant with inside dining mostly, but they do have a few tables for outside dining. The service is always friendly and nice. Order via kiosk, pay and tip on the kiosk, and decide if take out or dine in. Take a number if dining in and choose a table. On other visits, I've enjoyed the... Basil Fried Rice, Pad Thai Noodles, Drunken Noodles, Green Curry, Panang Curry, Devil Wing, and Tom Yum Soup. Today, I had the Thai Shaking Beef Salad (3/5). I got it mild, but it still had some good heat on this. I liked the salad and all the spices, tart and sweet flavors. The portion-size was good to share. Personally, I wish the beef was more tender. I felt the lemongrass was lacking. "JPP" Crab Stir-Fried Noodle (3.5/5). Thin rice noodles pan-fried with eggs, crab meat, and green onions. Overall, 3.5 stars. read more

Decent Thai food. We tried the place during lunch hours but it was not a very pleasant experience because of lack of AC on a 90 degrees hot day. Service was fast considering we only had 1 server. We tried Chicken satay, Devil wings, JCP crab noodles and mango stick rice but the only dishes which stood out were the 1. Mango sticky rice - You can't goof up this fool proof dessert and 2. Devil wings - Crispy, Sweet and a tad spicy. Super good. Other dishes were pretty average. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit this again! read more

Waited over half an hour for a togo order for my lunch, ended up having to cancel it so I wouldn't be late for work. Arrive at work just in time, without any food for my shift. That being said... Ambiance is nice, tons of space. They have a nice little self serve kiosk in the front and plenty of outdoor seating for warmer days. The food I could see came out slow, but it looked and smelled great. When I went up for a refund I noticed there was literally only two people working there. The woman who assisted in my refund had just finished making a dish to bring out to a table before helping me. And from the small window I could only see one chef in the back. I would like to try this place in the future, however it'll have to be when time is not a factor. read more

Average Thai food in a dated restaurant. Came here for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty empty. The Roti was very flaky and buttery; wasn't a traditional roti but I liked it. Also got a papaya salad that I forgot to take a picture of; it was refreshing and definitely would recommend. The curries were disappointing. It was just a small bowl of coconut milk and chili paste with some meat. What happened to all the veggies and herbs that typically go into a Thai curry? Tried for the first time today. I was in a party of 4, and we got in and ordered while no one else was in the restaurant. We received our appetizer, and then watched as every group that came in well after us received their meals before we did. (They even left before us because of how slow received all our dishes) Our server, while kind, never checked on us to see if we received our meals. It also looked like when I walked up to ask her about our food that she didn't realize everyone got served before us. Received our meals several min after I spoke to her, so I have no idea if they missed our ticket or just forgot. But had to ask AGAIN for our last dish before that came out. Loved that our server was so nice and friendly with everyone, but I had hoped that there would have been more check-ins or apologies with how our food came after everyone's. Aside from service, food was alright. -Really loved the drunken noodles and thought it had great flavor. -Green curry had a nice kick, okay flavor -Roti and curry was nice -pineapple fried rice - while I loved that they served it really hot, taste I felt was mediocre and could have had more flavor. Not sure if I'd ever try this place again with the service and food, if anything I'd just try those drunken noodles again to go. I'm done with this place. The only reason why I still went there even though I was already fed up with it was because my manager loves this one dish. He always likes to eat and pays for the whole bill (means free food for me!). Even though the waitress (I believe she is the boss!) is fairly nice the lag of everything else tops that effort. Food is not good! Dry meat, watery sauces and cheap white rice. The male waiter is ridiculously bad - glasses will be touched in a most sufficient way so it is ensured you definitely won't miss the fingerprints with your lips. His communication skills are limited to pointing and stumbling words which make some presidents look like a poet... But the worst is the wait time... it is horrible - you get a seat right away? Congrats, now you only wait up to 45 more minutes before your food is on your table (during lunch time!). To be fair we are often a group of more than 4 but still, every f*ing time! Doesn't matter if we come at 11:45 when nothing is going on or to rush hour... Even free, it is not worth it - that was my last time! read more

After taking a good look at my recent reviews, I realized some favorites were missing such as Barn Thai. I've been going to Barn Thai for several years for takeout mostly. First, I love that the spice levels are always right here. When I order medium for the food, all of the food comes in medium just as I asked! My family and I enjoy a lot of dishes from here but some of our favorites are the yellow curry, larb, and pad se ew. The curries are always high quality so one can't go wrong with ordering any of them. The owner is nice and friendly as well. I wouldn't hesitate to come here for some great takeout Thai during Covid and beyond! read more

Absolute worst experience! Went for lunch on a weekday. They were under staffed but customers were not informed. There were few customers who were already waiting for their food. We ordered using their automated ordering system. And then the wait began. After first 15 mins I walked to the kitchen and asked for water and settings. Yes, we did not have anything on our table. We got that after about 5-7 minutes. Close to 30 minutes since ordering I walked up to the kitchen to inquire on status of my food. It wasn't complicated order, just a couple of stir fries with veggies and tofu and thai ice tea. I was told my food is on the way. So I waited furthermore. After another 15 minutes my son went inside and was told our food is coming. All this while there were other customers who were getting served and some ahead of us who ordered after us! Finally after waiting for an hour and getting super hangry, I went back inside and asked to cancel my order. And this part bothered me the most: the owner almost immediately and unapologetically agreed to cancel the order. This is the worst I have experienced in dining out. She did not even ask if I wanted a refund. I had ask her for refund and watched over the shoulder that I am getting my money back. I will definitely not come here again and advise everyone else I know to steer clear of this place! read more

After returning from a trip to Thailand, we struggled to find authentic food that was actually spicy when you order it spicy. Barn Thai did not disappoint and gives us the kick we love! Flavorful, sweetest owner, & reasonable pricing. So grateful they're open again after several months closed due to COVID! There were only 2 staff members on the floor, a waitress and a bus boy. Lunch comes with a side cabbage/tamarind flavored soup and an egg roll. Delicious. Came here on a Friday night, and things were quiet. Staff was very polite and fast to bring us our food (Pad Thai and the Duck Curry). Flavor was spot on for both! The Pad Thai was the somewhat saucier kind which is definitely the best version. I got the Duck Curry at a medium spiciness level, it definitely still had a bit of heat at that level. Yep, nothing says good Thai food like the word "Barn"...Right? Seriously, it seems like a name change would increase the appeal and steer thoughts away from farm animals, offal, and hay. Once you walk inside the atmosphere is appealing: it's wood-paneled with subdued lighting; It has interesting Thai décor, incl. various photos of the Thai royal family. Service was also very friendly on each visit. Food is also respectable and lunch specials are reasonably priced at $7.95. My lunches here so far consisted of variations on my usual test dishes: -- Green Currry Chicken: mediocre execution, with OK sauce, too much bamboo shoot, and slightly poor chicken quality. 3 stars. -- Panang Curry Vegetables: Surprisingly tasty and satisfying. Tofu was pre-fried and had the right texture. Sauce was thin but good. Rice was excellent. Definitely a repeat order. 4 stars. -- Pad See Eeiw: A nice rendition, with fresh broccolini instead of broccoli. The chicken quality could have been better though. 3.5 stars. -- Pad Thai: gummy, clumpy, vermicelli noodles; dry chicken; few sprouts or carrots; low on flavor and ultimately unsatisfying. 2.5 stars. 3 stars overall, though I do like the friendly staff and the overall vibe here. Come here for mediocre Thai food and slow service. This place is PACKED at lunch and even though they have a list to write your name, go ahead in and seat yourself. They don't seem to care. After waiting ages to order, the food came out in batches so by the time I got my yellow curry, my coworkers' food was already cold. The yellow curry was decent, but absolutely nothing to write home about. We tried the roti appetizer. I lived in Thailand for a year and have never had roti taste like this. Honestly, I'm not complaining though, it was very good with the peanut sauce.
