We ordered the curry puffs, crab fried rice, Panang braised beef, and a Thai iced tea. The curry puffs were probably the biggest letdown. They were pretty one-note in flavor and felt underwhelming. The crab fried rice and Panang braised beef were both enjoyable, but neither dish was particularly memorable or something I'd go out of my way to order again. The braised beef itself was tender, but it was served in large chunks that didn't make for the most appetizing presentation. The Thai iced tea was also noticeably sweeter than what I'm used to, which may work for some people but wasn't my preference. One thing that stood out for the wrong reason was the pacing of the meal. Our crab fried rice arrived first, followed by the curry puffs, and then the Panang beef came out last. The timing felt disjointed, especially since you'd expect the appetizers to arrive before the entrées. The biggest issue, though, is the value. The prices are on the higher end for Thai food, and when the overall experience is just average, it's hard to justify the cost. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're after solid Thai food. We ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken and the Pad Thai. Both were excellent. The noodles had that nice wok-char flavor, the chicken was tender, and I appreciated that neither dish was overly sweet. It's refreshing to find a Thai restaurant that lets the savory flavors shine instead of drowning everything in sugar. The only hiccup was the timing. The Pad See Ew came out first, and by the time the Pad Thai showed up--almost 20 minutes later--we had nearly finished the first dish. We asked about it, but it didn't really seem like anyone followed up. It wasn't the end of the world, but eating together is part of the experience. Now, dessert... don't leave without ordering it. We had both the mango sticky rice and the durian sticky rice, and they were fantastic. The fruit was perfectly ripe, and they were surprisingly generous with it. Too many places give you a mountain of rice and a few slices of fruit. Here, the fruit-to-rice ratio was spot on, and the sticky rice itself was rich without being overly sweet. I went here with some friends for a dinner around 8pm - not too busy but also because they close on the earlier side so we were one of the last seatings. We got the Penang braised beef, pad see ew, pad ka pow, Thai hot pot, and mango sticky rice. The Penang braised beef is basically like the Penang curry - very rich, well spiced, and the beef is tender. My favorite dish here. Pad see ew is good but fairly standard - pricing is pretty high for a dish like this - $20+ for a noodle dish. The pad ka pow is good - something I normally wouldn't get, in favor of curry, but it was great for sharing and open up my horizons beyond my typical order. Thai hot pot for $35 was really disappointing - there is good amount of beef but they do not do a good job with the meat cuts and it is easy to overcook due to the constant fire inside cooking up the soup. Mango sticky rice is good - mangoes were sweet and fresh, but the rice was on the undercooked side. Service is good as water refills were present and they brought the dishes in a timely manner. Last time we ordered takeout from Khao Kang Thai Kitchen, I had a lot to say. First, I'd like to acknowledge that this place has let us down quite a few times. I usually skip writing reviews for places that disappoint me for the first time but after a series of letdowns, I felt compelled to share my opinion. We ordered a variety of dishes all spicy level of heat, including the Panang Braised Beef, Crispy Dragon Ball, Tom Kha Chicken and Shrimp (which came with an extra charge), Beef Pad Kew Mao, and the yellow curry (which was out of stock, which was odd since we ordered our food on a Friday around 6:30 pm). The Tom Kha soup was by far the worst dish we had. It tasted like watered-down coconut water, with the proteins and mushrooms just thrown in. The broth lacked depth and was broken, as seen in the pictures. I was so disappointed that I almost drove back to the restaurant to ask for a refund, but my fiancée didn't want me to seem cheap for doing so. The Crispy Dragon Ball "Salad" was another disappointment. It had no greens other than the cilantro that came with it, so I ended up taking some out and adding it to the Tom Kha soup to try to add some depth and flavor to the broth. The flavor of the dish was great, but they should clearly label it as a warm salad without greens or dressing. The Panang Braised Beef had a bland curry flavor, but the meat was very tender and fell apart easily. Pad Kee Mao, recall the beginning of the review where I mentioned we ordered everything spicy level heat. This dish, however, was utterly inedible. How could you possibly make it so spicy that the noodles would instantly burn your tongue and teeth? I shed a few tears trying to eat it, not wanting to waste my money. The result was a very bland, uninspired Thai taste that lingered in my mouth. The next day, we decided to order Thai food again, but this time from Shana Thai, another Thai restaurant off Moffet Blvd. They never disappoint. The ambiance was average, typical of a regular-sized restaurant. The tom kha soup didn't look very appetizing but it was bursting with flavor. Tons of different types of mushrooms all up in there and the pork was good too. I loved the coconut milk broth. The portion was a good size too. The pad kee mow was still a bit spicy even though we ordered it mild. The flat noodles were so bouncy with the perfect amount of chew. Good serving of veggies too. Some of the shrimp seemed undercooked. Kow ka pow with chicken was ok. Also ordered mild, it still had a kick to it. Service was ok. My friend told them she thought the shrimp was undercooked and the server said they parboil it before they sauté it but he would pass the feedback onto the chef and returned to offer 10% off that dish. Not your standard hum drum thai restaurant. While Khao Kang has the classic Thai restaurant ambiance and decor, the food can definitely throw some twists, starting with the crispy pork and roast pork rice plate that resembles more of Cantonese style cooking. Then add the curry options which really just feature green and variants of red curry, feels limited without Penang. Lastly, the pad see eww was different from what I'm used to. Overall, we enjoyed it. Food was good, albeit different. Service was very friendly and nice. We've been ordering delivery from here a few times, which have always been pretty tasty! We decided to come in person. We came around dinnertime, but we were quickly seated. The staff were quite friendly. We ordered the pad kee mow with crispy pork, pad see ew with chicken, and the crab fried rice. The pad kee mow was decent. I had asked for medium spicy, but it wasn't too hot. The noodles have an amazing bite to them. The crispy pork is incredibly juicy and, as the name calls for, crispy! Definitely recommend choosing that as your protein. The pad see ew is our typical delivery order. Similarly, the noodles are very springy. It's always seasoned so well; just the perfect level of sweet and salty. Are you telling me a crab fried this rice? In all honesty - maybe, since it took quite a while to come out. We had imagined that it would come out first, but it came out after we had finished our noodle dishes. It was okay; it was a little on the blander side and was a little mushy. I went here with my friend group, coming out to 10 people in total. Because of our large group, we made reservations in advance to secure our seating. We arrived close to 8pm. It's good to note that they close at 9pm every night and that their kitchen closes at 8:30pm. I ordered the Red Curry with chicken and mild spice. I also ordered a side of jasmine rice as the curry is not normally accompanied by any other sides. You get a good serving of both the curry and rice to make for more than a satisfying meal. The ratio of curry to rice is also pretty good. Their menu is fairly diverse and is sure to cater to different cravings. The service was really quick as the food came out in a timely manner for everyone. There's lots of parking outside in the plaza and it wasn't really busy inside or outside despite it being a night on the weekend. read more

Might not look like a lot of food, but it is! Decided to try a new thai spot out and discovered this place. On the table as a side dish they have this pickled jalapeno? So good, plus they make it in house. Our server was quick to get our order in. Inside is pretty spacious compared to the outside. On all of our food we ordered medium spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. The Papaya salad thai style tasted bland in my personal opinion and they use whole tomatoes instead of cherry tomatoes. The Pad See Ew with chicken was really good though. It didn't taste too oily and the texture of the noodles were perfect. The Har Mok Salmon was super good. That coconut milk really pops out and that curry taste isn't over powering. Plus the fish is still pretty juicy. It seems like a lot of people order online here too! I've been on the hunt for a go-to Thai spot in Mountain View, and this place might just be it! I came by around 6:30 PM on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised there was no wait. That said, the service was a bit slow as only two servers were managing the entire restaurant. The menu is extensive, with lots of dishes to choose from. Had the red pineapple curry with chicken, Khao Moo Krob (crispy pork), Pad See Ew, Chicken Satay, Thai fried rice with pork and crab rangoon. They don't serve yellow curry. They have a choice of Red Curry dishes which is pretty much the same curry sauce but with different vegetable ingredients. Spice level from medium to more spicy. Choice of protein from chicken, pork, crispy pork, shrimp. Got the pineapple curry with chicken . Good curry flavor but mild on the curry taste. Didn't have enough chicken. The curry flavor almost disappears when poured over the rice. The Thai fried rice was good. It had the smoky flavor that's a signature taste of having cooked in a wok or wok hei. Had good proportion of rice to meat ratio. Green curry was another choice. The Khao Moo Krob and Moo Dang was described as having crispy pork and BBQ red pork. The crispy pork was good. Basically fried pork belly slices. The BBQ pork was just 4 small pieces of Chinese sausage called Lap Cheong. I've had this dish elsewhere and they usually have the sweet BBQ cha shu pork. Steamed rice was included with two dipping sauces. Pad See Ew was good. Each noodle was coated with the sauce. Had milder flavor of sweet and soy sauce. The greens they added gave it an additional flavor of very slight bitternes. Different but interesting. Noodles were not soggy. The crab rangoon and chicken Satay were good. Satay had a good portion with 4 skewers of good size chicken pieces. Good peanut dip. The rangoon had a really nice presentation. Crispy wrappers that are not too oily. Good amount of filling, mostly tasted the cream cheese. Was accompanied by sweet chili sauce. Reasonable price for the Fried Rice and Noodle dishes. I found this place on Yelp and this is their new go to. Got to town tonight and they immediately said Khao Kang! The best Beef panang ever, can't find a better one. We made a reservation for a Saturday lunch and we were excited to try them out since they had a lot of great reviews on Yelp! Glad we made a reservation because when we showed up to the plaza, there was barely any parking. Luckily we just followed people who were leaving and we were able to take their spot. The spots did seem a little small though. When we go to the restaurant and let them know we had a reservation, for some reason we still had to wait a little bit. It wasn't too long, but I feel like if you have a reservation and you're on time for your reservation, you should be seated right away. I've always understood that's why reservations are made; to avoid a wait. We finally got to sit down and took a look at the menu. One thing that was a little odd was that they didn't have any yellow curry, which was odd because they had a dish that had yellow curry and their roti came with yellow curry, but they didn't have a yellow curry dish. We ordered so many things, but honestly only 2 things really stuck out: The Crab Rangoon and Pad See Ew. Both were great! In total, we ordered 6 dishes but these 2 were my favorite. The only downside was that the portions for all the dishes were on the smaller side, which is understandable since they're in Mountain View. The food was good, but portions were small. I'm convinced that this is some of the best Thai food in the Bay Area!!! I eat Pad See Ew an ungodly amount of times a year, and the noodles here are just perfect. Great texture, well seasoned, and the crispy pork belly was TO DIE FOR. Not too oily too! If I lived closer to this place, I'd eat this every week. The Hor Mok Pla was the real deal. This is a comforting dish that my mom would cook for me growing up. The curry is a soupy consistency and is reminiscent of a panang curry. Very sweet, creamy, and a little spicy! I ordered simple fried rice to go over the phone. 30 mins. Ok I understand but when I get there in 30mins add another 15mins. Like wtf? You had two groups in entire Resturant. One group got there after me, 45mins waiting for one order of fried rice. If this was a one off incident I would not be making this review. Numerous times I've waited super long for simple orders. This was the best Thai food I've had in a very long time. My table ordered 5 different dishes and each one was absolutely delicious. It looks unassuming from the outside, but Khao Khang is a local treasure.
