We then closed our night out with the infamous "deal closer dessert." A massive ice cream cake with a sexy presentation. After living in the area for almost 4 years and traveling here well beyond that- we finally made it to Barbacoa. I wish I hadn't resisted for so long. This is probably the nicest restaurant in Boise and is 100% the best when it comes to service, flavor and over all experience. It's definitely a splurge- but it's one I didn't regret nearly as much as other "fine dining" restaurants in the Treasure Valley. Everything was well seasoned, nicely flavored and you will not leave hungry or annoyed that you spent $60 for processed cheese as an "upgrade." If you have the budget for it, and want a special experience - make the reservation early and treat yourself. I sure as hell will be back. read more

We sat in the bar area for a late dinner (10pm) after driving 6 hours as part of our road trip. This was our first time there and we went based on Yelp reviews. The food was good (4 stars) although it did take a LONG time for the food to come out. I had a salad with chicken. My son had a steak. Nothing really exciting to say about it other than it would good. Not amazing, not "meh." The service was very good. She was there pretty much whenever we needed her and she checked in on us a lot. The ambiance was good. They put a lot of thought into the details of the place. If you look at the ceiling in the bar area, you can see a face of a woman (I attached a photo). Again, we were passing through since we were travelling, so this was just a stop for a meal. It was good enough, but if we were back in the area, we would try another place as I am sure there is somewhere that we would love instead of just like. The food was delightful! They have wood fired stoves for pizza and a full kitchen. Seafood pasta was my order for the evening and it was perfect. It was so large of a portion, I wish I had someone with me to share it with. Service was fast and smiling. And, one of the hosts found me a seat as a single near the bar, although the restaurant was very crowded and people were waiting. Thanks! Herradura ultra, one ice cube, and a lime, to start. I had the mixed grill with spinach substituted for the coconut rice. Excellent dish! Scallops, shrimp, and fish were grilled perfectly, with a slight char. Nice presentation too. My server, Terica (see photo), added to an already great meal. She was very engaging, and was nice enough to suggest fresh in a fruit for dessert, as the other desserts were too sugar-filled for my healthy eating orientation. Delicious meal. Been here twice. Reservations are better on Friday -Sundays. We sat outside both times and it's beautiful facing the lake. Both times were in May-June so weather in BOISE is perfect! Food was great! One of our friends recommended this place. Wow! It is packed even on a Monday night! We made reservations. We started with the habanero tequila ribs . Meat fell off the bone, nice crust but the texture of the meat was a bit dry. My fiancé loved it though. The pineapple coleslaw was very refreshing and the sauce was tangy but not spicy. Overall a great start. The octopus with chimichurri sauce was amazing! The octopus was so tender and the sauce has a nice kick to it. We ordered rib eye with hot rock. They flambé the steak served in a hot rock. The steak came quite rare so we left it in the rock for some time. The steak was very fatty ; almost 1/2 was all fat. The rock didn't really cook the steak so by the end of the meal, pieces of steak was still rare. Definitely a great presentation, but next time I would order without the hot rock. We told the waiter about the issue with the steak and he graciously agreed with us. He asked management to take a portion off the bill off. We also ordered onion rings and asparagus for sides. IMO this is the best restaurant in the area. It's fun, it's unique, it's beautiful (inside and out) and they have a wide variety of food and drinks to choose from. It's an experience and it's worth the wait and cost. I've been here dozens of times and have yet to be disappointed by anything on the menu. We finally tried this place after seeing recommendation after recommendation on the Boise State Parents page. We dropped in around 5:30 on a Friday night hoping to get a couple of seats for happy hour. Well. Don't do that. According to the hostess, one must arrive at 3:50 to get a couple of spots at happy hour, which is 4-6 daily and she's you get BOGO drinks. The restaurant has a cool vibe, with dim lighting and iron artwork throughout. The staff is professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered the top shelf margarita and the heat margarita, which has serranos and cilantro. It was just the right balance. For food, we ordered the table side guacamole and the young man who prepared it for us was friendly and more than capable. He had us try it before he left (probably knowing it was perfect ). We also ordered the Cancun shrimp--order this!!! I don't know what is I. The sauce, but you'll want to dip everything in it, pour it in everything and eat it with a spoon. Good lawd! We needed a bit more so we ordered the mini tacos, which are definitely mini. They were okay. My one piece of advice is to ask for extra napkins or bring your own wipes for your hands. One word for this place - WOW! I think everyone is well aware of how good it is, but we went there on my birthday last week and it did not disappoint. We started with table side guacamole - outstanding!! I ordered the cowboy ribeye and shared some with my wife who ordered the jalapeno rice & Mac and cheese sides. We both had a garden salad. All food was outstanding. We each had a couple drinks and since we were there for happy hour, we ended up with two for one! The drinks are amazing - the "ice glass" amazing. We Love Chandler's in Boise and that has been our go to steakhouse for years. We kept hearing good things about this place so we decided to check it out. Outside was unimpressive. You have to drive through a RedRobin parking lot to get to it then its pothole city and a poorly cared for parking lot. Upon entering the building we were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere! It was clean, visually appealing and saw some of our favorite wines on display. We were not greeted when we came in and took about 10 min to be seated past our reservation time. It was 100 degrees outside and they had all of the doors open so we were literally sweating and contending with flys which makes it hard to enjoy dinner. Not a great start! The food, drinks, and service were good despite everything but the icing on the cake was getting charged $1 for an ice cube in addition to the $36 drink. Obviously it's not about the $1. Just charge $37 for the drink instead of itemizing an ice cube. Seems petty to me. I've been to some of the most expensive whiskey bars on earth, who stamp their logos into their crystal clear craft ice and still don't have a separate charge for it lol. Our combined bill between dinner and bar was over $300 which is definitely less than our usual bill at Chandler's, however we found this place to be lacking. read more

From their rooftop bar, to their main dining room area, their beautiful bar and cozy outside seating, delicious drinks and outstanding food... don't know how anyone can find anything wrong with this place. We started our night at the rooftop bar, where service was quick and friendly. My Huckleberry martini was served in a fun martini glass shaped glass, keeping my drink chilled til the very last drop. After enjoying this and the atmosphere here, we made our way down to make it to our reservation. The entrance to the restaurant is impressive, dark and a beautiful wine arc welcomes you in. We were seated outside, where we were able to see the full blood moon (first row) that night. They also had some fire pit tables and for the rest of us, heater lamps. Looking at the menu it was hard to pick, so many items looked great but, when our server told us about how their steaks were cooked, I was sold, and order the NY. Food didn't take too long, and when my steak came, it was served next to a HOT stone, which they flambe on the table, making this a fun and video worthy dish. The steak is cooked a bit under your prefered temperature so you can keep cooking it on the hot stone to your liking. This was great for sharing as my boyfriend likes his steak more cooked than I do, so we both got perfect bites each time. I had mine with fries on the side and these were amazing too! Thin, crispy outside, delicious seasoning, and the sauce to dip them in was so good. I got to try the enchiladas and have to recommend those too. Tender meat, and that sauce... Wish we would have had room for dessert but, enjoyed the meal so much we ate until we were full. Honestly one of the best places I've dined in, and would plan another trip to Boise just to go back and try more of what they have to offer. read more
