My wife and I were pre-gaming before the Boise State football game. We checked out The Refuge. I have had apps here before that were tasty but not a full dinner. We sat at the bar as the crowd was full of Broncos and every seat was taken. I ordered an NA beer, and my wife had the Best Island Pilsner. The vibe was football and sports. Not too loud, but just loud enough to hear Lane Kiffin getting cheered on as he loses at Ole Miss. I ordered the chicken strips with tater tots. The taters were crispy, and the tangy special sauce was horseradish, ketchup, and mayo. Perfect blend. The ranch was naughty- meaning good, as it probably is the bad kind, but good for the soul. The chicken strips were juicy and crispy. I cleaned my plate. My wife had the fish basket and fries. Very tasty, and I helped her out. Refuge is my wife and I's go-to spot in Boise. We usually come every Friday for the prime rib, which we split and add an extra salad perfect amount of food. The kitchen will actually split the meal for you, which makes sharing the prime rib even better and super easy. Fridays do get busy, so I'd recommend coming a little early or later in the evening if you want to avoid the rush. What really makes Refuge special, though, is the staff. Everyone is incredibly kind, welcoming, and fun. We've honestly never had a bad experience here, and it's a place we always look forward to coming back to as often as we can. Bonus points for parking too Refuge sits in a massive parking lot, so you'll never struggle to find a spot. Came here for a solo dinner after my first day of a work trip. The hotel I was staying in recommended this place. It was very busy inside so the service was very slow, but I can't fault them because it was busy. My waitress was apologetic about the wait and super friendly. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 was the food. I ordered the lamb gyro; the lamb was dry and the taziki sauce tasted weird and overpowered the dish. I would definitely return and I recommend this restaurant, but I will not get the gyro next time. read more

We are here for a convention and we went to all the " usual" restaurants, but this place was the best and the best value for our buck too. Great food, good atmosphere, and excellent service. There were 12 of us Boomers that went dining there this past Tuesday to try out the restaurant . The service was very good and a nice selection of different types of food items. My wife had the pesto pasta with chicken that she really enjoyed as did I from the tasting she gave to me. Both my wife and I enjoy Mediterranean style dishes so when I saw the Gryo sandwich I had to try it out . The pita bread was warm and soft, lots of lamb and filing hardly had any red onions which surprised me as it had plenty of feta cheese . But the biggest drawback was the tzatziki sauce which is crucial for having a good gyro was so watered down it was thinner than soup! So I didn't figure out it was the taziki sauce that was running all down my hand till the waitress brought me another little cup of it! You would think with all the yogurt plants now in Idaho that having a good tzatziki sauce with olive oil yogurt lemon juice which I could not even taste in the current tzatziki sauce so till they fix their version of tzatziki sauce I don't recommend having the gyro. read more

The Refuge has been our home away from home since the Downtown Old Chicago closed back in 2020. We live in Southeast Boise and are there two, sometimes three days a week. It's our go to wind down on Fridays after work and NFL football on Sunday. Food is fantastic and comes out fast even when they're slammed. They do breakfast specials on Sunday. The pancakes are always fantastic when they have them. Prawns and chowder are my go to dinner, but the specials are always really good, too. I've never had a bad meal here. The staff is incredibly friendly, hardworking and has basically become family. They know our drinks when we walk in and what team we're coming to watch. We love having The Refuge as our neighborhood bar! read more

No parking hassles like in Downtown Boise. Very comfortable seating with large separations between tables, not crammed like Downtown. This place rocks with fast friendly service and great food. Date day took us to the Refuge. Very nice place. The food is better than good, the service was great and the atmosphere very casual. We had a bloody mary and a glass of pinot grigio. Lunch was finger steaks and tots for me, finger steaks and fries for partner. She had a salad and I had a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was thick with lots of clams. The salad looked great. My husband and I actually ended up eating here almost everyday five days in a row! It was next door to our hotel. We were there for my father in laws funeral... Each day we walked over for either lunch or dinner: the service was amazing (kind, perfect, on point), the food was WOW yummy, and the bartending was needed and sheer perfection! Staying in a hotel next store and exhausted from a family road trip, so we decided to get food to go. It was pretty busy, I was greeted right away and I said I was placing an order to go, and said I didn't need a menú as I knew what I wanted. A server standing at the register called out over the noise of the crowd, asking me what I wanted. It wasn't bad but didn't feel super professional as I felt like I was screaming over the crowd and had to repeat myself a few times. Food was ready pretty quickly and was tasty and plentiful. Just a walk across the parking lot from the Marriott made this spot super convenient, and they are open late (kitchen closes at 10pm). The bartender was super sociable and the food was A-MAZE-ING. We were finishing a 2 week road trip along the Oregon Coast and the food here beat every place we ate on the trip; a great way to end the journey. Solid place like SOLID! I am pretty sure I judged this book by its cover. I have always had a beer on the patio in the summer but I have never visited inside ever. Great, great bar. There is character to this place. High, low and bar seating. TV's for games and booze and food when you are hungry. The menu has a wide range of selection from finger foods to burgers and more. Drinks are stiff. Yes please. The things I actually like the most about this place is you can hear your table mates talking. While the place was BUSTLING, you could still have a conversation.
