The cheese curds were melty and paired with a zesty/spicy aioli, I really enjoyed them. The spice bag was so good with lots of fries, tendies, and peppers/onions mixed in served with a solid curry sauce. Drinkwise, the Guinness was poured perfectly and my espresso martini was so good. The East Village was popping as usual on a warm night and every spot had a long line. We were trying to grab a drink before heading to our final destination. Bar Snack was recommended by staff at least two other establishments as a solid spot in the neighborhood for food and drinks. We had just eaten so didn't have room for the famous spice bag. It did look good from the quick glimpses we took at other tables. This place is deceitfully big wrapping around the bar, and it stays packed. It's not a place to shoot the breeze, unless you are actively consuming. There is a gentle notice on the menu about not being a "camping bar" (sodas are fine as long as you are ordering food). However, I think this makes the whole vibe feel intense as staff seem to check in often. We were a group of three and ordered seven drinks total while there. I prefer a slower pace in general. That said, the music was nice, staff were friendly and the cocktails were creative. Security is a top tier class act. I could see why Bar Snack is often recommended and would consider visiting again. read more

10/10 I truly enjoyed visiting Bar Snack this evening. The bar is cozy with ample seating. Yay for purse hooks on the bar as well. The menu is so fun, per the name, they do snacking very well here. I had the chips and dip (bbq chips and jarlseberg cheese) plus their "Starving Artist" meal combo (glass of wine plus their delicious peanut noodles for $22). To drink, I had a glass of white wine followed by the Dawn Patrol N/A Arnold Palmer. What stood out especially was the amazing customer service. Danielle and Emma were warm, friendly and attentive. This was my first time at this bar but I felt like I was among friends. The noise level on a Monday was not loud though I'm sure weekends are busy! Bonus points for many vegan/vegetarian food options. There's so many overrated/shitty bars in the East Village right now and Bar Snack stands out as something authentic, fun and real. Not only is the food reasonably priced, it is actually good. Same goes for the drinks. Hoping to make this my new regular spot. Nice, chic vibes that is so popular for a night out. It was quite busy on a Saturday night, but we found a bar seat along the wall towards the back. Unfortunately, the space was next to the speakers and a large group, so it was very loud; a bit too loud for this millennial, unfortunately. It also took awhile to flag down a waiter to order drinks and pay the tab, but they would check in when we didn't need anything. came here to try the famous spice bag, and it did not disappoint! the chicken was well seasoned and the curry sauce was fantastic. i had a spicy bag in ireland once and this definetly competes, if you never hand a spice bag this is a great first place to try. their drinks are super creative and amazing as well, i'd recommend swinging by during their happy hour (i believe before 6pm?) because they have some great deals on food and drink. overall they choose unique cups and have a wide variety of beverages to choose from and even some season options. ambiance in here is great, it's small and cozy with quite the nice interior. so many reasons to go give this place a go, if you want a beer and a snack or if you want some nice cocktails, there's something for everybody. read more

Speaking of 70s, they have a disco bathroom! I came mid-day in the middle of the week, so there were only a few patrons here and there. I didn't get any snacks, but some of the offerings were: cheese and chips, grilled cheese and soup, a dressed up hotdog (pork and beef, onion jam, hot pickle, kettle chips). Spicy peanut butter noodles. Dorito pie. All snacks 10-14 dollars. Drinks were varied and seemed to have a classics with a twist vibe. I had the melonade (cantaloupe, lemon, "an herby kick," and grey goose vodka. I had the snack daq (comes in two or three sizes)--diplomatico, other mixed rums, clementine, winter spices, and lime. Those two were very refreshing and fruity, but not too sweet. The menage-a-gave I had was a little more savory, but still delish--strawberry, snap pea, yola mezcal, agave wine, agave syrup, and sparking wine. I also had the salad Negroni, which was one of the better Negronis I've had--nectarine, basil, and acid layered into gin. Closed with the Swan-yay Lo Ball--aberfeldy 12 single malt, white peach, and pink grapefruit soda. Service was laid back but attentive. Not pretentious. Prices reasonable, or at least on point for Manhattan, and the value is definitely there. Prices 16-18 dollars. They live up to their motto, "dressed up classics for dressed down people." read more

Bar Snack provided one of the better bar experiences I've had in the city in recent memory, because it offers elevated yet playful fare and has created an environment that is both lively and chill, curated yet very down to earth. I can almost guarantee that you will not want to leave. Maybe you'll find yourself eager to try something new because of a menu that sells certain items quite convincingly, maybe you'll end up having such a good time that you'll check your phone and somehow two or three hours have passed and it's suddenly way past your bedtime. Call it the Bar Snack effect. We came here at around 10:30 on a Saturday night. Despite being in a prime location, we were able to get a table for four (technically for three, but we were able to bring over a bar stool for a fourth seat), though pretty much all other seating was taken when we arrived. It was busy but not overcrowded, which was honestly kind of a shock given how most East Village bars can get (case in point, we walked past schmuck on our way, a bar that opened around the same time as Bar Snack, and there was a significant line). I knew I liked Bar Snack as soon as I walked in. There's just something about it. The layout and decor are welcoming, upbeat but chilled out energy that feels definitively cool but unpretentious. The music is a great mix of 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and had us playing a Price is Right-style game to guess the year each subsequent song came out, which I suppose clearly gives us away as millennials. Bar Snack markets their drinks as "dressed up classics", which is an apt description. I went with the stiffer drinks when we were here because that's what the time of night was calling for, but I would love return to try their "crushers" and snack-sized drinks, which are light and crushable as their name suggests, though they feel more appropriate for post-work and/or pre-dinner. A few folks in our party tried the Melonade (made with cantaloupe and vodka) and enjoyed it, so by proxy I suppose I can vouch for that one. I ended up trying the Force Majeure (rhubarb and beeswax dry martini with Irish and Scottish gins), because I just cannot say no a well-advertised martini. Unique and aromatic, and while of course it is spirit-forward, it is clean and well-balanced. I thought I'd only be getting one drink here, but the Good Gordo (spicy marg with apricot and rancho gordo hot sauce) looked too good to pass up. I just love a spicy marg, especially in the summer. I got mine with mezcal and finished it far too quickly because it was unbelievably good. My partner got the Salad Negroni (gin with notes of acid, nectarine, and basil), which I nearly ordered instead of my first drink, and also loved. read more

She got a pretty strong Whiskey, and I a Menage-a-Gave, which was perfect. When we arrived, my partner was pretty daunted by the packed, straight crowd that was there but I coaxed her inside to the back of the bar. The host was super friendly as was the bartender: I think they understood we we'ren't typical guests and really made an effort to make us feel at home. I've sat outside and inside at Bar Snack. The inside had a great atmosphere but it was very loud. I was disappointed on my last visit due to the service. My table specifically asked our waiter about the happy hour deals and they told us. What they failed to mention is that on Fridays there is no happy hour. Big fan!!! First off, great music. It was like disco house but not over the top, sort of chic and funky but still a vibe. The drinks were DELICIOUS. I don't think there's a bad one on the menu. I got the Verte Drip and the Melon one (i forget the name) and both were 10/10. The amount of ice they put in there is perfection (and its pellet ice!!!!) Service was bomb. I think I found out about Bar Snack through a social media post promoting their Spice Bag. Having been to London, though not Dublin, I have tried British Chinese takeaway a few times, but I'm by no means an expert on either style. Bar Snack's Spice Bag flavors are definitely similar to British Chinese and Sichuan food but not as comparable to the widely known American Chinese flavors. The bag's items are seasoned akin to a salt and pepper preparation (think salt and pepper squid or prawns) and served alongside a curry sauce. Bar Snack's curry sauce has gorgeous flavors of brown butter and lean towards a sweetened Malay curry versus a Japanese curry roux. If this sounds like your thing, I highly recommend coming in to try it. Their cocktail program is equally laudable and offers a decent number of NA or NA-able choices for those who may lead more of a dry/damp lifestyle. Everything I tried here was great: the daquiri, the big twea energy, melonade, and hay trip. To spare you the taste details, I'll defer to the menu because all menu descriptions are spot-on. On top of all the drinks tasting great, the employees were incredibly friendly despite being so incredibly busy. As Surbhi C mentioned, the bouncer outside braving the heat and humidity also smiles so genuinely through it all.
