Stopped by for a happy hour and was impressed with their deals! *Drink Happy Hour Menu Attached to this review*. There is a fun ambiance, and it was larger than expected. We were able to seat ourselves in a back room with open windows to the street. Our server, whose name I didn't catch, was extremely friendly and attentive. They had a great espresso martini. Stopped by on a Tuesday for HH with the girls and we were so glad we ended up at Pretty Rickys! This bar has all the right things - good food, music and vibes. You can actually have a conversation with friends, enjoy great music, and dig into food that isn't terrible. Def recommend the fries and burgers. The service does get a little slow as there was only one or two servers but other than that would definitely recommend! read more

My friends and I finished having dinner and we stopped by this bar for drinks on a Friday night. The place was crowded and they were playing pretty good music, no one was really dancing but us. I ordered drinks at the bar and I didn't finish ordering and the bartender got upset. I understand that the bar is busy and he wants the order all at once, but I wasn't able to reach him when he was pouring the drinks. He was very rude, most likely will never go back. read more

Monday: All Day Tuesday to Friday: 4pm - 7pm Saturday & Sunday: 2pm - 5pm We came here specifically for the Happy Hour oysters, which are $7 for half a dozen. On the day we were there, they had oysters from Massachusetts, and they were quite good. Very fresh and cleanly shucked. Two of us had a dozen each. As for other Happy Hour items, the two Ricky's Sliders for $7 were just okay, while the two Fried Chicken Sliders were actually not bad. With that said, not sure I would get them when I could just order more of those awesome oysters. Lol Penicillin and Espresso Martini, each for $7 during Happy Hour, were both quite well made. Recently visited for happy hr. as me and my friends were bar crawling. They have select bites for discounted price. I was happy to see they had oysters but, they didn't have them available on this visit. Booooo. I didn't see anything else on the happy hr menu that piqued my interest. Although that was the end of my interest on bites, I took advantage of the happy hr cocktail menu. I went with the emotional orange. It reminded me of a jazzed up aperol spritz. It was tasty and boozy. The bartenders were pretty friendly and had many accouterments to craft beverages. The atmosphere was ok but, the music could've used a little help. I may give them another chance but, maybe I'd eye the regular menu on that visit. read more

came here for happy hour with friends and ended up staying way longer than planned because we were having such a good time truthfully. we shared the sliders, focaccia & hummus, and fries. we ended up trying a variety of cocktails & all the girls were sipppping! the bar has dim lighting BUT has holiday lights up everywhere & we appreciated that so much. it automatically enhances your mood. i will say, i usually don't like espresso martinis but this one surprised me. i loved it and even ordered a second. after 7pm, they begin $10 martinis. our server was also incredibly patient the whole time so shout out to her. read more

Give ELSA a raise. She's goated. Such a beautiful spirit and she makes amazing drinks. We come pretty often for the happy hour and specifically the oysters. You can't beat $7 oysters lol. I'd highly recommend for an after work spot. read more

Cool happy hour place for everyone's new favorite drink, The espresso martini! However please be aware they are pre-made with an inexpensive vodka that might leave you with a hangover the next day. Good happy hour food options as well but my chicken sliders were def made with old chicken. The chicken was brown and hard. Fries were good and very cool aesthetically pleasing bar. I would try it again, in hopes to have better food. Bartender service was very good though. read more

Popped in here while it was raining to stay dry and we grabbed a seat at the bar and got drinks. They have an awesome happy hour that starts early (at least on Saturday's). I got a glass of wine and our bartender was really nice! Vibes were great and it was a good crowd for a Saturday afternoon! I would totally go back. read more

$7 for a happy hour espresso martini is iconic. Quality espresso martinis too, not one of these watered down, low effort, danced on canned espresso martinis... Sorry a lot of descriptors there but they came from my soul. A reasonable happy hour from 4-7pm too. $7 at 6:59pm, $17 at 7:01pm. It really grinds my gears when places advertise a happy hour but it's from 4-6 M-F only... like I can't even physically make that. I guess I gotta go harder for financial freedom... I sat here at the Pretty Ricky's bar with my big homie, surrounded by Halloween decorations, ripping a couple $7 espresso martinis while just sitting there talking about life. $7 drinks and a weekend happy hour, what more could you ask for? Was attracted to the retro signage and came in to wait for my pants to be hemmed at Orchard Express. The bar has a lot of space, with a big back room. There are many places where you can stand and put down your drink, so you can tell it gets busy in here. I saw about 20 or so taps, so I figure it's a beer bar but had a cocktail instead along with the sliders (get the chicken ones.) read more

Came here with my finance for a quick drink and bite before a concert at Mercury Lounge last weekend. We ordered the Disco Shrimp: Resurrection and What Happened to the 9 Train to drink and shared fries, a kale salad and crispy chicken sandwich. I was super perplexed by the Disco Shrimp: Resurrection drink. The server described it as tasting like a chocolate covered strawberry margarita and she was spot on! This drink was so unique and very good. My finance also enjoyed his drink. The fries and sandwich were also good. I surprisingly enjoyed the kale salad more than I expected to. I mean it's a kale salad; what's so special? I find kale just ok and I would come back here just for this salad and disco shrimp cocktail alone. The service was great. We had two servers and they were both attentive and awesome. The windows and doors were open so it was a little hot but we're also in the middle of a heat wave so it is what it is. I'm not sure we'll be in the area again anytime soon but if we are I'll definitely stop by again. They have a few more unique cocktails that caught my eye. read more

(All the booths were taken.) Towards the end of our time here, it got busier, so we came at a good time. Everything above is from their HH menu except for the Jameson. In a world where inflation is driving up everything, $6 per HH item is awesome! I got the espresso martini and sauvignon blanc. The espresso martini was good. Not too sweet. The sauvignon blanc paired well with the oysters. Tho I'm a fan of smaller oysters, so these were on the bigger side for me. The fries were fine. Some fried food is always a good snack when drinking. If ordering straight whisky / scotch, I would recommend going for the higher shelf stuff as it is reasonably priced. I can't remember what we asked about (maybe the oban 14?), but the price was the same as a pour of jameson. (We figured the jameson would be cheaper, but it was the same price.) Great HH spot. Pretty Ricky's is my favorite bar in the Lower East Side, for many reasons. This spot is one you can go to at any time of day and have a great time. Their happy hour is $7 cocktails, wine, and beer from 2-5pm everyday. Amazing for day drinking on a warm NYC weekend day, as they also open up all their windows and you can sit outside. When I come here at night, they have great music and open up the backroom. The quality of their drinks are also very good. The bartenders are fast and attentive. Their speed does not sacrifice the quality of the drinks either. Definitely recommend this spot for drinking night or day. Next time I need to try some food! read more

Miguel was the best bartender I've ever seen in my existence of living. He was so kind he was so nice and he made my drink so good. I don't know who the manager is of that establishment but he needs to give Miguel a raise. Great spot for happy hour especially when the weather is nice. They open all the windows by the street so you have this nice breeze and good lighting all throughout the restaurant. Oysters for happy hour was $1.25 each which isn't bad at all. The oysters tasted fresh! (I wish I could bring some Thai seafood sauce and fried shallots to eat the oysters with lol my fav way to eat oysters. Cocktails were delicious but I observed that my espresso martini didn't have 3 beans on top for symbolism. Nbd was just an observation. The drink was still yummy and got me feeling pretty nice. This place is a gem! 7$ menu items during happy hour. Ordered one of everything for the table. Everyone had a different favorite, but all were amazing. The "penicillin" was the best I've ever had. We live in a very bougie area of the Midwest and it is difficult to get a good cocktail for under 16 bucks. This place has a private room and you can rent it out for parties even on Saturday nights but it's only available from 8 pm-12 midnight and they won't let you set up before 7:30 pm. Other than that, it's really cool and the bartenders are AWESOME! You can order some fries and onion rings to soak up the alcohol. Lol. My favorite spot for happy hour. I live nearby and can always grab a seat outside in the summer or inside. Usually have to reserve the booths for a bigger group. The cocktail menu changes every season and I'm always excited to try the new gin cocktails. The burger deal for happy hour is unmatched. The oysters are also always so fresh. I ran inside to use the bathroom on a Saturday night after dinner around 11 pm and ended up staying for drinks. There were other small groups inside but it wasn't packed. We (4 of us) were able to grab a table in the corner. For music, it was mostly top 40s. We ordered shots of patron and I had the cosmopolitan. It was made really well. It was strong, but enjoyable. The guys in my group ordered a couple different IPAs, which they seemed to enjoy and order more rounds of. I try to call the restaurant, knowing no one would be there to answer. They didn't open till 4 o'clock, and it was 10 AM. I have my husband sent an email saying that we might be late. Then traffic starts to clear up and it says we're gonna arrive in New York around 245. Awesome! No traffic picks up again and it goes back to 6 PM. We finally get a call from the restaurant, they moved things around and offered us a reservation at 5:25pm, but it was the best they could do. Their best was enough, we made it there by 5:15. Thanks to the amazing staff at sip and guzzle, my son was able to have his birthday dinner at the place he'd been dreaming about for months. Mackenzie and Kamila greeted us at the door, we had spoken to Kamila on the phone and she was just as wonderful in person. She led us to a nice corner booth where we weren't all crammed in and left us in the hands of our server, Angie. Unfortunately, they were sold out of cheeseburgers. I arrived in 2008 with very little, and when Graydon Carter revived the restaurant in 2009, I was beginning a rise of my own, first at a large global bank and then, to my astonishment, at one of the city's most powerful investment firms. The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was impeccable, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. I remain deeply fond of the place, partly for what it was and partly for what it witnessed. Some restaurants become attached to a chapter of your life, and Monkey Bar holds mine with unusual grace.
