I think I might have overhyped this place in my head a bit. it's a cute spot, and I bet it's nice when the weather is nice. It's a chill bar, dark lighting, but seating is a little weird. We ended up getting a small table but overall it was an okay experience. Service was fine, and we tried the teeny tini's. the classic is good, pepper one is okay, and I'd say you can pass on the pizza one.

I've been to many bars in the LES and this is hands down one of my favorites! Good date night lighting. Definitely try the Pizza martini. Had a great conversation with my bartender Lizzie. Quick service too!

Came here on a Sunday evening looking to enjoy the patio seating and have a few glasses of wine in a party of four. It was very empty at this time and there were few people coming by dimes square so we thought the environment was very lax. Unfortunately was immediately talked down by a pretty rude waitress while I was waiting inside on the phone who asked me about the paper plate I was holding that I was looking to throw out and basically kicked me out to throw it away before being seated. We were told to seat ourselves and so when we combined two tables for our party of four the same waitress came to tell us that they usually don't allow that and why did we do that, but "whatever". Clearly having a rough day and thought to take it out by power tripping some customers. The atmosphere was nice but the lack of hospitality will deter me from ever coming back. The other waitresses were quite sweet, but they do not make up for this one's lack.

A cute local martini bar in LES (Lower East Side). Fun place for a quick cocktail. Place was packed but our server was kind enough to find us a table. They have regular size and teeny tinis, depending on your mood.

I'd rate Grove Street Social three and a half stars…read more Cozy bar in the West Village. Few beers on draft. Handful of wines. Pretty decent whiskey selection, but they were pricey. One of the prices that came to mind was Redbreast 12 for $20 for a pour. I settled on Bitburger which was $10. Service was quick. You're certainly paying for the location as the bar situated amongst many clubs and events spaces.

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

I've been wanting to check this place out for so long and finally brought a group of friends out on…read morea Saturday in the early evening. Perfect time to go! Not too crowded, the wait for a pool table was about 30 minutes, enough for a quick round of shuffleboarding. The games are relatively cheap, and there's so much variety, ping pong and board games. The live jazz is really what sets this place apart from the other pool halls, starting around 7 pm with what seems like maybe the house band and I think they have guests later in the night. It's the perfect atmosphere, fun lighting, lots of grungy writing on the walls, good indie music from the 2010s before the jazz starts. Plus the spacing of the tables is good so you're not constantly bumping into other players, which is a pet peeve of mine. I'm sure it's busier later in the night but it's perfect for an early stop in the evening. Cheap drinks and good deals as well!

Pretty cool and genuinely unique spot, different from most places in the city. The whole concept is…read morebuilt around keeping your hands busy: pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, foosball, chess, checkers, even some old-school arcade cabinets scattered through a sprawling underground space. It's actually a legacy spot in disguise. This basement used to house Fat Cat, a longtime West Village institution that shut down right before the pandemic, and before that the room itself was a bowling alley, tucked into a 1932 Art Deco building a few steps from Stonewall. Drink selection isn't the draw here, don't come expecting a deep cocktail list. Crowd skews heavily undergrad, and the place is loud, so it's not the spot for an intimate one-on-one or a real group conversation. It's built for a different kind of hang: elbow your way to a table, keep your hands busy, let the noise do the rest. There's also live jazz most nights, which adds a nice layer if you catch it at the right time. Neat place, just know what you're walking into.

Wonderful experience…read more Mackenzie was amazing, helping move our reservation to an earlier time, and getting us the seat we wanted. The decor was stunning. The food: The volcano rolls and bikini had amazing flavor. They really do take care in sourcing the best ingredients. The chef, Issac, brought our burger to the table, and checked in afterwards. It was phenomenal. Layers of flavor. We only needed one, and it was a perfect split (yes they brought a knife to cut it). It deserves all its praise. The mochi fries were a nice add. We finished up with the Hokkaido Soft Serve, courtesy of Angela, our server. Outstanding, and thank you. Patron note, they often run out of burgers early, so an early reservation is recommended. Thank you to the chef, and all the staff for an amazing, never rushed, and very chill experience in the heart of the village. Looking forward to our next visit.

Overall a very mid experience at "Sip". We were excited to come here during our recent trip to NYC…read moredue to Sip being named the best bar in America, but ultimately left disappointed and wishing we had spent our limited time elsewhere. The personnel was nice enough, but we didn't receive the personalized experience that you would expect with this level of establishment. Our server seemed a lot more attentive to other tables. We noticed that our server asked the table next to us, who mentioned they had been to Sip before, what types of drinks they typically like in order to make recommendations (she even sat down at their table for a more intimate inquiry). We did not receive similar treatment. She simply asked for our preference of water and what we wanted. No enhanced descriptions of the drinks were provided. The decor and ambiance is neat, I'll give them that. You go down into the cellar in a Japanese-inspired room that feels like you're transported to Tokyo. That part we enjoyed. However, the tables were very cramped and overall not very comfortable. Additionally, they told us that they had a limited number of menus so they couldn't leave us one to study for our next drink order. Given the popularity of the business, this was pretty surprising. They're not particularly special/unique menus, so they should definitely get more. Strange. The drinks themselves were fine, however, definitely fall into the "high art" category which isn't for everyone and can seem a little pretentious. The espresso martini was the oddest one out. It was clear with a slight brown tint and did not resemble a true espresso martini. It was more of the "essence" of an espresso martini with darker-chocolatey notes. I thought it was decent given what it was, but my partner did not like it as it wasn't what they were expecting. The yakitori-inspired cocktail was unique and delicious, although I would have preferred slightly less char-flavor. The creamsicle-inspired cocktail was overall pretty forgettable. The tomato/garden-inspired cocktail was fine. For food the only notable items we had were the volcano roll and the Hokkaido ice cream. The volcano roll was very delicious and probably the best thing we had all service. The Hokkaido ice cream was strange. It tasted... cheesy? Overall not what we were expecting. We've had Hokkaido milk in Japan and Hokkaido ice cream from other places in America and it has not tasted like this. Overall we were just trying to eat it without thinking about the flavor too much. I can see why some people might be a fan of Sip & Guzzle. I can't say that we were big enough fans to warrant a return visit.

Since we had such a great time, we stopped in on the next night, and it was a massive disappointment. Shitty attitude from the bartender. (Not sure if there were 2 bartenders with the attitude, or just one terrible bartender and a friend hanging out with him doing nothing but distracting him.) Either way, the bar was not crowded yet and he straight up ignored us. For a while. We left. Drinks are made with the cheapest of booze and served in plastic cups. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job.
