What a super fun, cute, local pub. My friend and I came in early around 5 PM and were able to catch the last 2 topper by the door. We were later moved in closer inside so it wasn't so cold. We enjoyed the friendly service, cool bar atmosphere. Everything we got was delicious and unique, especially the Basque cider (with it was on draft), peppers, quiche and the croquettes. I will come back to this historical pub as it's unique and great!

Absolutely delicious food and a location that's historic -- Bar Gernika is within the Basque block of Boise, Idaho.

My first time eating Basque food was memorable thanks to Bar Gernika! The chorizo was perfectly flavorful and the onions and peppers complimented it. The croquettas were knockout. The show stopper, in my opinion, is the sweet and spicy sauce that comes on the table. Like Frank's Red Hot says, I put that s*** on everything! Very attentive servers, fun indoor pub-like atmosphere, but limited seating so get there early.

First and foremost: the bartender and server were very friendly. That said, I was underwhelmed. Had I read for detail I would have not ordered the Chorizo as it's a link. It was good mind you, but tasted no different than a good sausage roll at a street fair. The Croquetas were meh, and are much better down the street. Most of the cocktails were canned, although one of the recommended ciders from Spain was very refreshing. In the end, not much of a Basque experience, but not a bad one either. Parking was a bit of a challenge on a Wednesday evening.

Great food and service. And, amazing atmosphere, took thousands of miles away to Spain. My buddies and I split the Lamb Grinder and Chorizo, both were so tasty. Great selection of beers on tap.

Another great time at Bar Gernika! This time we tried the Tortilla de Patatas which were really good and the broccoli cheddar soup hit the spot! A great local restaurant!

The food here is no frill, good bar food. I ordered the Lamb Grinder which is pretty much a French Dip with cheese and lamb. The lamb was tough, but the dish was well seasoned. The toughness and dryness could have been reduced if the meat was chopped a bit. The croquettes were really good. I loved how the acidic sauce balanced the heaviness of the croquettes. It was soft and creamy in the middle. The Lamb Stew was extremely rich and had depth in it. The flavors were on point, but the Lamb was dry. Perhaps use a fattier cut of lamb. Service here is beyond fantastic and the staff was very friendly!

A great old bar/pub with tasty food. If you are seeking big leather booths and fancy menus in a leather binder, this is not the place for you. If,however, you want a cool little pub in the Basque district, slide right in The croquettes were a great start followed by a tasty lamb grinder and a cheeseburger. The bread is amazing and the meat super tasty. The salad and fries were also good. We didn't care for the salad dressing as it was a bit sweet Waiter was helpful and attentive. The place is casual and delicious. This one gets high marks from me

An afternoon snack of 10-deep fried croquetas (butter, onion, chicken, flour and milk) served with sweet & sour Louisiana Tiger sauce. You can use Tabasco for spcie. The texture was excellent... crispy, yet easy to cut with the side of a fork. Big croquetas fan! I also got an Isastegi cider, which is a very dry Basque cider that didn't have much flavor. Don't recommend this cider. Wasn't impressed with the service at all. Sat outside on a beautiful day and there were 1-2 other tables filled. The server dropped off the menu and came back a full 10-minutes later. Perhaps it was super busy inside. She delivered the food and drink, but never appeared again. I waited and waited, but eventually asked another server for my bill, which he brought. Wish I were hungrier because they have a ton of other seemingly good/original things on the menu.

Highly recommend Bar Gernika in the Basque Block of Boise. Very good Lamb Grinder with au jus sauce sauce as well as delicious tiny croquetas. The beer menu was a very pleasant surprise as well as the had many imported beers on tap. Also appreciated the convenience of it being located adjacent to Boise Centre. Highly recommend if looking for a place with culture and convenience near downtown and walking distance to everything worth seeing in the immediate area.

My 1300th review of 2022 and it lands on this fantastic meal in Boise. I had learned earlier that Idaho has a huge population of Basque immigrants who came here in the 1800s to work in the mines. Many of them settled as sheepfarmers, bringing their experience from Spain to the Idaho Territory. And with it, their culture and food. So this neighborhood in Boise is chock full of Basque restaurants and even a Basque cultural center. I love Iberia and Basque food, having been to Madrid twice and also Bilbao https://www.yelp.com/user_details_reviews_self?userid=hWDybu_KvYLSdEFzGrniTw&review_filter=location&location_filter_city=Bilbao&location_filter_state=BI, Palma and Barcelona as well as Porto and Lisbon. It's my favorite region in Europe and so I was excited to get a taste of their great food here in, of all places, Idaho. I was warmly greeted and shown to a table and presented a menu. I opted to just have a dinner of appetizers this evening and it all arrived together. Perfect. Blistered shishito peppers (spicy but not hot) dusted in salt, tiny croquettes and a plate of three different Spanish cheeses with a bowl of olives and a fresh bread. Oh, my. It was absolutely perfect and definitely took me back to my last trip to Spain. Great food. Service was also fabulous and the atmosphere in this small place was cute and eclectic and quite warm. If you're looking for an impressive date night, this is it. And yes, it's a Diners, Drive-In and Dives feature https://www.dinersdriveinsdiveslocations.com/bar-gernika-idaho.html with a picture of Guy Fieri on the wall. A couple of my friends showed up first, got a great table outside and ordered a couple apps to get the party started. I showed up after goodies and drinks were ordered. We started off with some chips and salsa and pountine. The chips and salsa looked good but the pountine was definitely calling my name! I love me some potatoes and these potatoes looked like they were going to be right up my alley! I dished up a good portion before my friends got some. They were kind to let me plate first cause of my new kidney. I didn't want to be too greedy so the portion I got was a few bites. Those few bites got me hooked so it was a must to get another order started. While my order of pountine was being worked on, I tried the pretzel with cheese and the hummus plate. The pretzel was perfectly salted. The cheese sauce was the perfect addition to the soft pretzel. I took a good amount of the hummus and Greek salad. The pita that came with it was a great vessel for the hummus. It was crispy with a slight chew to it. The hummus was clean tasting and rich. The Greek salad was so fresh. All the components of the salad tasted like they were just picked from the garden. You literally can't get anymore farm to table than that! It was so fresh! The second order of pountine came out. Everything about this appetizer was delicious! I love soggy, softer fries and these fries were the business! The gravy and cheese were the highlight of the dish for me. You can never go wrong with potatoes, cheese and gravy! There was a good amount of meat on the pountine. It was so tender! You can tell it was cooked with a lot of love and time! I took the rest home and I plan on hiding my box in the back of my fridge so my daughter can't get to it! We ended our happy hour with the beignets. Each one of these goodies were covered in powered sugar. The caramel sauce that was paired with it was devine! In all honesty, as full as I was, I could have polished off an order myself! They were the perfect dessert to end this fabulous meal. Bittercreek has been on my to go list for a hot minute. I'm so happy we got to come here and celebrate my birthday. The food was marvelous. Our server did a fantastic job taking care of us! Our waters were always filled. Our cocktails were never dry. And our plates were always filled cause food was always ordered on time for us. Homie was on point tonight! The venue can't be any more stunning. The weather was lovely. We were meant to be here today! In so happy we started my birthday week off at Bittercreek!

If the weather is cooperating, sit outside. The beer selection is impressive, with a great range of lagers and ales. We had our eye on one particular light, crisp option, but they were out for the night. Our server pointed us toward something comparable... I believe it was called Teddy Bearnd...it worked. Now, the food. My friend went for one of their signature burgers, which was seasoned simply so the beef really gets to shine. The only hiccup was that they were out of tomatoes, which is a non-negotiable topping for her, so keep that in mind if tomatoes are a must. I went a different route and ordered the beef focaccia. Uniquely layered ribeye and really good. We also shared a Greek salad that was simple but fresh and satisfying. And the french fries with their homemade ketchup? Don't skip em. Service was smooth and friendly from start to finish. No complaints.

He was very informative about where to go and places to check out in Boise. I ordered one of the local beers and their flagship meal, the Santa Maria Tri Tip Sandwich. As you can see by looking at the photos, the tri-tip was cooked to perfection. It had tomatoes, poblano, and chimichurri sauce on it to add to the flavors of the tri-tip. The bread consistency was great, not too soggy, and with a great crispy texture. I wish they had spread the tri-tip out more to make sure every bite was being celebrated. I also ordered the mac and cheese as the side per the instructions of the bartender, James. Let me say that was one of the best mac and cheeses that I have ever had. Truly amazing creamy texture and full of rich flavor. Everything melted in your mouth. Definitely worth it. I eventually ended up talking to a fellow bar sitter, and he ended up being the co-owner of the place, TJ. He also filled me in on the places to go and, most definitely, the places to travel to, to experience great beer. He was refreshing to talk to since most people don't have the passion for beer that we both represent. I would highly recommend this place for the staff that is there the solid pub style restaurant that they have created. Super easy and relaxed kinda of place.

I don't know that I have ever given a brewery a 5 Star review...this makes sense!…read more I have been doing my little Fish & Chips search through Boise and I will have to say, this place is Hands Down the best yet that I have found! Now I have been here a few times and I like the place. The service is good, especially in the bar. The place is very open and has great light and fresh air which I always love. Add to that some great food and creative cocktails and you have a winner! They have a great Old Fashion that is a creation of one of the bartenders and I think is just a fantastic drink! Balanced flavor, a little sweet but not too sweet...with a nice bourbon finish to it! Now back to the Fish & Chips...I have had them twice now, with the same cocktail to chase them down. These are what Fish & Chips are meant to be. The batter is light with a great crunch, not heavily breaded but a light flavorful batter! To start, I tried the Pickletini. As a fan of pickle-forward drinks, I found it "not bad"--a solid choice if you enjoy that briny profile. My fiancé opted for the All Ways Down Double IPA flight. At 9% ABV, it was a heavy hitter, but he really enjoyed the intense hop aroma and flavor provided by the Cryo Hops. For my main, I ordered the TNT Sando (Tri-Tip with bacon jam and garlic aioli) on Gaston's grilled focaccia. I requested it without pickles, and it was excellent. I paired it with the Black Bean and Veggie soup, which was a standout--perfectly delicious with a nice "zing" to it. Unfortunately, the meal hit a significant snag with my fiancé's Fish & Chips. The beer and cornmeal tempura batter was extremely thick (nearly 3/4 of an inch in some spots) and the fish was overcooked. Additionally, the blue cheese dressing on his side salad was very runny and tasted off. It was disappointing enough that we had to send it back. We replaced it with The Spicy Italian pizza. This was a total 180--it arrived looking beautiful, and the combination of the meats, pepperoncinis, and hot honey was absolutely delicious. Our server, Casey P., was generally good and attentive, though we did have to wait to start our meal because we weren't initially provided with napkins or silverware. A minor note on the atmosphere: the table we were seated at had "gay" carved into the wood, which felt a bit out of place for the professional vibe of the rest of the establishment. Overall, the TNT Sando, the pizza, and the beers are worth coming back for, but the kitchen consistency on the fried items definitely needs some work.
