    Not a medium rare steak

We arrived at Bar Bouchée exactly at our reservation time and stood awkwardly for five minutes -- no host, no greeting, no clear idea of what to do. When someone finally acknowledged us, we were just told to "wait." Ten minutes later, we checked in again, only to be told that our table was still occupied, with no real update or apology. Trying to make the best of it, we went to the bar to order a drink while we waited, but the bartender responded with an attitude and told us "the host will be with you soon" -- which had nothing to do with the fact that we were simply trying to get a drink while we stood there waiting. It was an unnecessary brush-off. We were finally seated over 30 minutes after our reservation, and placed our full order right away, hoping to make up for lost time. But then the cheese board took another 30 minutes to arrive. When we asked, we were told there was some kind of miscommunication -- again, no real ownership or urgency. Then came the main course. I ordered the bavette steak medium rare, but what I got was clearly rare and chewy, as the photo shows. When I mentioned it, the waitress did say it looked maybe on the rare side to her but also that Bavette can come out like that looking red - but Undercooked and poorly prepared is not a feature of the cut. We didn't want to wait longer so just ate some. To be fair, our waitress was kind and acknowledged the issues, but it was one of the most frustrating "high-end" dining experiences I've had. At these prices and with this reputation, you expect better service, better pacing, and food cooked properly. Instead, it felt like we were an afterthought the entire night.

Great vibe and flavor. Friendly service Portion is on the smaller side (especially the salad)

Always something new on the menu

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in the area -always a good vibe and the food is incredible. The menu changes with the season -highly recommend you make a reservation now!

Stopped here for a little dinner before a show and was delighted to enjoy a delicious country style French meal in an outdoor seating that was more than cozy. An "Al fresco" seating area is equipped with lovely radiant heat that kept the drizzly night from getting us down. We began with escargot and a chicken liver mousse that was rich, velvety and just luscious. A petit hanger steak, cooked to perfection and a plate of handmade cheese filled pasta pillows served with a rich lamb ragout was just what I needed to satisfy my voracious appetite. Attentive server and beautiful decor keeps this place on the top of my fine dining list. BTW, the craft cocktail Bees Knees was a delicious blend of Bar Hill gin with a cinnamon simple syrup and dash of nutmeg was just perfect

Im afraid i confused Bar Bouchee with Cafe Routier!!!!! Ive been to both and both FABULOUS but the pics here are Cafe Routier Le cuisinière est magnifique !!!! il y a un place endroit confortable et décontracté, mais le nourritures est extraordinaire !!! and of course they speak English the food is wonderful and authentic French cuisine

We adore Bar Bouchee but I think what makes it exceptional is Christine, one of the waitresses. She makes every meal there fee like I've flown across the ocean and am back in France. Best escargot but the shrimp special this time was the star of the show! We bring our son, who's 6, and he is always fine there but I wouldn't necessarily say it's kid-friendly inside.

Straight ahead you can see the chef hard at work. We choose to sit at the bar for dinner. We were very impressed with the cocktails and wine flight. We were very impressed with the complimentary rosemary bread and bean/olive oil spread. For the first course, we opted for the crudo with the white wine, absolutely delicious, refreshing, and light. For the second course, we had the scallops, seared perfectly with a mushroom, hazelnut, and a fantastic sauce For the main course, we had the prime sirloin strip, roasted potatoes, and parsnip. The New York strip was out of this world...cooked medium rare all sliced with a side of truffle butter. After dinner, we were surprised with complimentary cantaloupe sorbet and two salted chocolates. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special evening in New Haven. I plan on coming back for the chef's pairing, which you have to sign up for ahead of time.

I was searching for something that could match up to Maison Bar Vins back home. First off can we talk about the bones of the place. The Taft building which once was a hotel now sits and houses a very charming French restaurant with a chef who could care less who you are or if your camera is permanently to your hand. I sat at the bar and the chef seated me. I opted out for their three course pre fix bar menu. Chef and owner Vincent who had trained under ICONS in the culinary world met me with this good old fashion old school attitude that today's foodie influencers could never understand. Serious poised stern energy that I love so much about old world cooking boh lore. The food was great. The playlist was upbeat, the kitchen had energy. This place should be the hardest reservation to get in New Haven.

We returned for Father's Day and we were seated immediately without a reservation, though I think we just got lucky so I don't recommend this. We all shared the warm olives, the croquet poulet sandwich, the fries, the quiche lorraine, the chateubriand, the roasted beets, and the strawberry ice cream. It was all a hit, and when a 3.5-year-old and a 22-month-old are enjoying your food without any coaxing or help, you know it's fabulous! My husband got some cocktail and I got the phony Negroni mocktail. Service was great and the atmosphere is chic without being uptight or snobby at all. We all left really happy. I still dream about that sandwich. I'd love to go back and try other things on the menu. I'm sure they knock everything out of the park. I am hoping Le Mazet will be our special occasion restaurant.

Definitely need a reservation to get in on the weekend fyi! When we arrived we were seated at a beautiful booth. The interior is gorgeous here. Our server was fantastic I wish I remembered his name! He suggested some great items. We started with their steak frites and I cannot rave more about it! First this plate is definitely shareable. Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

Even though they lowered the music back to normal volume after that song we were on edge for what to expect. The food was good but we couldn't wait to leave because we were not able to hear each other nor relax. Service could have been better such as telling us what wasn't available when we were given menus rather than finding out the hard way when we went to order. The waitress told us they had a watermelon salad but didn't describe it at all. They did serve the food all at once but had to ask who got what -auction style "who gets the steak?". The food was good. The salad altho delicious was minuscule. One hanger steak was tender and not seasoned enough while the other was tough and too salty. Back to the beginning, the hostess repeatedly asked us if we booked the other location which we kept having to say no several times. Finally she said ok and gave us a table. I can't imagine why she didn't just give us a table from the beginning if she always had one. It was very upsetting to think that we were about to be turned away and meanwhile there was a table. Rough beginning, and rough ordering. Food was good overall. If you like a party come here. If you like tranquil look elsewhere.

We were welcomed with freshly baked bread and a warm gougère, which reminded me of Brazilian pão de queijo. For drinks, I enjoyed the French 75 along with the non-alcoholic Pamplemousse, while my niece ordered the non-alcoholic Guadalupe. To start, we each had the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and comforting. We also shared the foie gras torchon, which my niece described as incredibly smooth and creamy. For our entrées, we ordered the filet of beef and the rack of lamb. Both were cooked to perfection, and I appreciated that neither dish was overwhelmed with gravy or sauce, allowing the quality of the meat to shine. For dessert, we shared the mixed berry soufflé and the Feuillantine. The Feuillantine was my favorite--it was wonderfully rich, chocolatey, and creamy. Pairing bites of the light, fruity soufflé with the decadent chocolate dessert turned out to be a delicious combination. To end the meal, the restaurant surprised us with complimentary pistachio macarons, which was a thoughtful finishing touch.
