We saw the menu online, made a reservation via OpenTable and came in on a weekend. There's a free lot out front and easy access/restrooms. Their online menu is not the current one. They're unable to change it. We order the vegetarian rotolo, the swordfish, the potatoes and tres leches. All were decent (4/5). Their drinks were ok, skippable. But their after dinner digestifs were amazing, esp the house orangecello and coffee aperol. Service was decent and there's not much of an ambience. My first time at Bar Becky and I 100% recommend it to all my friends and family! I loved the open concept kitchen. The whole restaurant feels so welcoming and inviting, and you can really see the passion from the entire team. The food was amazing. We had the bread and cheese, crispy potatoes, and grilled duck, and every dish was full of flavor. The desserts were definitely a highlight. The flan was delicious and the peanut butter donuts were absolutely amazing! The cocktails were just as impressive. The Steve Hates Bieber was my favorite, and their shots are incredible. You can really taste the difference with their homemade syrups, especially in the coffee shot. The service was outstanding. I really enjoy Bar Becky for various reasons. Location, simplicity, service, and good food. What I don't like. 1) They never have enough bread to even handle their 7pm seatings; 2) Their website is inaccurate. They no longer offer their $45 pri fixe meal on Tuesdays. So it was a bit disappointing last night to get neither the bread or the special. The Caesar salad was still delicious and crunchy, the lamb ragu great, and the poppy seed cake marvelous. We were given a complimentary glass of prosecco to manage our wounds but please update your website and bake an extra loaf. At least parking was available. read more

It's me, back again. We unfortunately came back for what would be our last time dining as a group (we might come back one more time) at Bar Becky. So this review is for nostalgia. They even worked with us to add two more people to a reservation, which they are always so accommodating with. Because it couldn't be missed by any of us. We had a phenomenal meal. We made a reservation for Bar Becky on Open Table and were greeted by a cute and cozy ambiance. There is a mix of bar seating at the open kitchen, high tops, and standard tables. It is a unique concept to have such an open kitchen where you can watch the innovation in action. Chef Johnathan and the other chefs were very playful and laid back when interacting with each other, and everybody was pitching in and doing their part joyfully. For drinks, we got the Sesame Mario, which was akin to a mildly spiced pineapple tequila-based cocktail, and the Rice Rice Baby, which was very smooth and rum forward. I didn't know what to expect when ordering a rice-flavored rum drink with orgeat, but the best way I can think to describe the drink was that it was both an expected and unexpected taste. We got a mix of appetizers, including the beet salad, mom's carrots, and pork belly. The beet salad was our favorite - the creaminess and acidity of the sauce balanced out the fresh earthiness of the beets. There was also a nice crunch in the sauce that provided additional texture. The carrots had a pleasantly warm flavor profile, and the maple syrup was very thick and paired nicely with the carrots. The pork belly was probably our least favorite, although still delicious. It tasted almost a bit gamey, although the rosemary in the beans was really nice. We shared the Pat's Bolognese for our main. The flavor was well-balanced, although we felt it could have a bit more meat and substance. We finished off with the panna cotta, which was unique with poached pear, pomegranate, and candied almonds. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Bar Becky, from the care put into the food and service, to the evident camaraderie between the chefs and waitstaff. Parking can be tough at LBX, but is free. An additional bonus is that EV charging is available in the lot (Charge Point - Level 2). Would definitely recommend a stop here. Chef Johnathan Benvenuti from Hell's Kitchen heads up Bar Becky, a tribute to his mother. When you enter you're greeted by photos of Becky at the host stand which immediately give you a cozy feel. The restaurant is spacious and the main feature is the open kitchen with chef's table seating where you can watch the chefs busy at work. Our server was so warm and made our experience great. The menu changes seasonally but I believe what we ordered were some of their most popular and longstanding dishes. The Caesar Salad was perfect and I loved the squid ink breadcrumbs. I knew I had to go with Pat's Bolognese as my main, made with their house spaghetti, wild boar and burrata. The quality of both the pasta and sauce was amazing and you could tell how fresh both were. I only wish the portion was twice the size because I wasn't quite full after. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and they gave her her choice of dessert on the house. That was a nice touch, considering most restaurants don't do that these days. She decided on the donut holes and OMG they were so good. Warm and fluffy with a delectable dipping sauce. You know the place that makes you smile from the time you enter until you walk out, this is that place for me. The service, the atmosphere, the cocktails and of course the food! Chef you always leave me amazed. Of course the focaccia and ricotta/prosciutto if a must. They replaced the anchovy dip (which I loved) with garlic butter (which I also loved) so worked for me. But I would buy that anchovy sauce by the jar if they sold it!!!!! Eggplant as always, best vegetable dish I ever had but will try Brussels sprouts next time just to venture out (so I say, lol) and since they don't have them all the time. The spaetzle was so tender and flavorful even without the sauce. And the sausage was a perfect pairing. Potato Gnocchi with a Korean pork ragu and a pesto ricotta sauce dolloped on top. The most tender pillow like gnocchi around, I love them here in any form and the ricotta pesto was a nice creamy complement to the whole dish. For the libations...the Anne Marie was a win with a tart rye whiskey meld and red wine floater. They made me their version of a Penicillin and it was fabulous, it's not on the menu but I hope they can make it again. Finished with the ricotta donuts and a huge smile. Warm and so soft inside from the ricotta. Cinnamon and sugar outside with what I think was a maple brown sugar sauce. Bar Becky... wow, wow, wow. We were visiting from out of town and looked up places nearby on Yelp ~ this place looked like a great option. The shopping center was having a holiday Christmas event and the entire area was CROWDED. We were not hopeful we could get in...but after a small wait we secured a table. One night ended up being two nights in a row because it was just that good. The culinary expertise here is outstanding--every dish was absolute perfection. The menu isn't huge, and honestly, that made perfect sense. They focus on what they do best, and it shows in every bite. I recommend getting multiple items and sharing family style so more can be enjoyed! Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about wine, and the cocktails were pure perfection. I'm still thinking about this place and already planning to come back the next time we visit. Which makes it even COOLER ~ if it can be...Bar Becky is tribute to the chef, Johnathan Benvenuti's mother (Becky) and the restaurant reflects the families Italian/American heritage and culinary philosophy: scratch made pasta, focaccia, and chef-driven creations. I had dinner at Bar Becky last night with pretty high expectations. It's a small, intimate space with very friendly and attentive service. On my first visit, everything we ordered was delicious. Portions leaned small, but the overall experience left me really happy. This time, I was hoping for that same level of quality, but unfortunately it fell short. There were two standout dishes: the crispy eggplant and the hamachi crudo. The eggplant was perfectly cooked crisp on the outside, light, and full of flavor. The crudo was bright and fresh, with a flavorful relish that honestly had me wanting to lick the plate. Beyond that, the rest of the meal was underwhelming. We ordered two pastas, the duck nudi and the bone marrow bolognese, and both were noticeably under-seasoned. The pasta itself tasted overly floury, almost as if the cooking water hadn't been salted. We also tried the swordfish and the pork belly. The swordfish was quite bland, and while the sauce was decent, it didn't do much to elevate the dish. The pork belly was similarly disappointing, tough and lacking flavor. Overall, I left feeling pretty let down, especially given the price point. So the service here was really great. The hostess was also the answer for runner everything even though I was a little sad back she remembered my friend's name and not mine. But I think she was running around! We had to wait about an hour to get seats. It's not really big. There may be more space to the left, but I didn't really see. The food came out pretty fast. We were near the kitchen area where it's kind of like an open kitchen half of it so that was really cool. The focaccia was really delicious and to get prosciutto and ricotta was a must! It's been a while so I honestly cannot remember the exact post mean I swear one was like Popper deli with some meat which I'm sorry I think a short rib both was really good except the pasta was a little harder than I like. Happy to have learned of Bar Becky through a local Long Beach Foodie FB group. The location, at Long Beach Exchange is fantastic, as it has added an additional dining option to the center. I visited on a Saturday evening with a friend, with 7:15 reservations made easily online (my original reservations were for 6:45, and we were able to adjust the time quite easily about an hour beforehand). Parking at LBX is ample, but can be a bit tricky during peak hours. We were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess and seated within 5 minutes of arrival. The restaurant itself is not very large, with a wall of half booths, a row of stand alone tables, and bar seating. There are also tables outside, though there was no one seated out there on the night we visited. Would be ok for groups, but I would definitely recommend reservations. My friend and I sat at one of the free standing tables for two, and were able to hear each other well in our conversation. The menu, printed on a large sheet of paper, featured appetizers and main entrees on one side and wines/cocktails on the other side. I appreciated the simplicity of the menu's offerings, as it made it quite simple to focus in on what you wanted. Our server attended to us within 5 minutes of being seated and provided an enthusiastic review of our selection, the Spaghetti Bolognese (featuring wild boar). My friend enjoyed a Cosmopolitan (I stuck with lemon water tonight), and we both ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, as recommended. While I wouldn't personally return just for this dish, it was delicious, but very rich. I wished it was served with a thicker pasta, rather than the thin spaghetti. BUT, I'm also not a chef- so I know for a FACT that this choice was for a reason...and I respect that. This was very obviously a well constructed entree with quality ingredients, and the cost reflects that. As for service, both the hostess and our server checked in multiple times (bordering on a little too much), but I appreciate that there was never a moment where we lacked anything...also they were both so darn friendly, you couldn't be annoyed! Food: 4/5 Service: 2.5/5 Complete lack of response when I emailed to share my experience: 0/5 Below is the email I sent to the restaurant about my experience. I never received a reply: "I had an early reservation and chose seating on the patio. Staff were very friendly when initially greeting and seating me and while I ordered. My first course arrived promptly and was fantastic (all of the food was very good, so I'm focusing more on the service in this email). I was still enjoying my appetizer (only about 2/3 of the way through) when a server came back to deliver my main course. This surprised me, as I hadn't been seated all that long and certainly hadn't had enough time to finish the appetizer while eating at a normal pace. I set the main course aside and finished my appetizer before returning to it. As with the first dish, the main course was very good, but I wanted to save room for dessert so I stopped about halfway through. I then sat at my table for at least 30 minutes while servers came and went tending to the other table without even looking my way (an impressive feat since there were only two tables seated on the patio). Finally someone came with a box and asked if I wanted to take the rest to go, which I did. They cleared my plates, and I assumed my dessert would be out shortly. I had been hoping to order a drink with my dessert, but instead I sat waiting at my table for another 30 minutes before someone finally came by with the dessert, placed it on the table, and promptly turned and walked away. It was a lovely night, so I didn't really mind the chance to sit and relax but I was surprised by how quickly the main course was served, how dramatically service slowed down after that, and the lack of attentiveness. When staff did interact with me they were all professional and welcoming, which made the lack of consistency even more notable " Based on the food, I would definitely have gone back if they had taken just a minute to reply to me. Excellent food. We went during the Long Beach Food Scene week on Sunday. The place was pretty busy, and the service though very friendly was slow, especially at the beginning. We sat for 15 or 20 minutes after giving our order. We brought our own wine (corkage $25) but even that was unopened. I will give them a pass on that because once the service started, it was very good with the food coming promptly. The food was excellent. We opted for the special ($75 for 2) and it was a great deal. The focaccia with duck liver was very good, the crudo and salad were outstanding. The lamb was okay and the dessert was good. Decor is modern, minimalist and elegant. Recommend making a reservation as there is limited seating at this restaurant and diners sit for HOURS chatting even when they're done eating. Service is hit or miss. They don't really check on you other than to bring out your next dishes. Everyone is very polite and friendly, the service is just very casual and laidback. Maybe that's the vibe they're going for. So sometimes the music is so loud that you can't talk to your partner, other times it's muted. Food opinions: (First off, you can tell the chef cares deeply about the food choices so I do not want to come off as disrespectful at all. Everything was plated beautifully. Chefs were working hard behind the open area kitchen. This is just my opinion below) Focaccia - must try. Crispy and buttery. Choose the prosciutto and burrata pairing, you won't regret it. Duck confit with handkerchief pasta - it is reminiscent of chicken noodle soup in the best way possible. The duck is shredded and the pasta is light. Amazing dinner at Bar Becky. My wife and I went to celebrate my birthday and really enjoyed our meal. We shared the crispy eggplant as an appetizer. It was very light, no batter, fried with a crisp outside and soft inside. For our mains, I had the branzino and my wife had the kale pesto gnocchi. I could eat this branzino every day. Simple, but tasty, I really liked the marinated morel mushrooms too. For dessert, we had the fresh banana donuts with a scoop of ice cream. Inside is super comfortable and I love that the kitchen is right there behind the "bar" so you could sit at the bar top and watch your dinner being made! I had the Caesar salad which was amazing! We have been here 3x for dinner and once for brunch and every time we left very happy. We went Friday night for the DineLA 3-course prix fixe and we all agreed that it was excellent, especially for the price of $35 each. First course: endive and blue cheese salad Second course: Alfredo with shrimp Third course: Budino with toasted marshmallow and almonds. We also got a bottle of wine for the table. $44 for a Thatcher GSM is a steal. This place is definitely on our rotation for date night. Forgot to take pics of the Alfredo but it was delish. The only gripe, which isn't Bar Becky's fault, is: parking for LBX on a Friday is ridiculous. We basically parked next to OSH,almost to Carson, and walked the 3 blocks to the restaurant thru the parking lot. Came here on a weekday night during the holidays and there was no wait (although we made a reservation anyways). We shared a couple appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 entree type food and 2 sides and we felt like it was plenty of food for 4 decently hungry adults. After hearing a lot about this place, was excited to finally try it! Everything tasted quite high quality, fresh, and well-balanced flavor-wise. Service was great and our waiter was really knowledgeable and funny. Food came out pretty quickly and drinks were great. If you're looking for non-alcoholic choices you can ask about mocktails which they do have off-menu! The focaccia was warm and fresh with a great texture. For the anchovy dip we expected something super-fishy but it was actually creamy with a fishy flavor which was not what we expected but it was still good. As for the pasta, they were both great but the Rotolo had to be my personal favorite--really deep textures with the multiple methods of preparing and cooking with a yummy filling. I also would definitely recommend the cacio e pepe sunchokes--very umami, very addictive flavor and great texture on the sunchokes. They were almost a cross between a potato and tuber vegetable in terms of texture. Wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. You walk in and boom--photos of Becky right at the host stand, which instantly makes it feel warm and homey instead of stuffy. The space itself is kept really clean, but the real star is the open kitchen. You can grab a seat at the chef's table and watch everything happen in real time, which is always fun (and slightly dangerous if you show up hungry). Also, shoutout to our server who was genuinely super kind and made the whole night even better. The menu rotates with the seasons, but we ended up ordering what I'm guessing are some fan favorites. Wish we would've started here though. We probably would have just stayed. Everything here at bar Becky is meticulously crafted, created. Whatever you want to call it, it's upper echelon. Tonight's dish was a hamachi carpaccio with 4 slices of amazingly fresh hamachi, lying in a layer of light citrus-y liquid. It was exquisite and light. (No price because my buddy had it waiting for me). Although I only had this appetizer dish, I can't wait to try more of the entrees when I get a chance. The Maestro of Mixology Fabian, conceptualized and concocted some of the most amazing cocktails. Cocktails were so good I forgot to take photos. I ended up ordering 3 drinks each with a different spirit and trust me when I say that each drink was delicious, mixed perfectly. The menú drinks hover around $16-18, but if you have something in mind that's not on the menu Fabian will def oblige. Now, bar Becky is a bar, so I'm not sure if it's a kid/stroller friendly place. But I feel like a wheelchair will fit, although it might be a bit snug. Parking is shared so it'll be busy, especially on the weekends. Bar Becky has been on my list to try for a bit now, I'm so happy we decided to swing by today! We stopped by on a Saturday around 5:45p. First Impressions: A quiet, cute little place. We were seated immediately. The staff was attentive and greeted us right away. We had our option of bar or table and chose the bar. Overall Experience: 5//5 It was so good! Jona gave us recommendations throughout the menu, and since we weren't super hungry or craving anything in particular, we just decided to go with his suggestions. Jona and Fabian both made drinks to our preference and they were very yummy. I definitely recommend speaking to the bartenders or waitstaff for the best experience. My water cup was never empty and we were checked in with multiple times. Food: 5/5 We ordered the focaccia, the hamachi crudo, and the carrots. All of them were amazing, but my favorite was the hamachi - it was the perfect blend of fresh from the fish, sweet from the cherries, and the various herbs and nuts kept things light and made the texture fun. The focaccia was amazing and I definitely recommend getting it with the prosciutto and ricotta for the perfect blend of creamy and savory. The carrots were also fantastic - fresh and sweet. Service: 5/5 No complaints. Everyone was very nice. Special shout out to Jona, Fabian, and the hostess who sat us (I didn't catch her name). They checked in with us often and were very welcoming. Atmosphere: 5/5 It was great! Everything was clean and tidy. It was just casual enough for us to have a light bite to eat, but could see it as a good place to bring a date or even a group of friends. Simply put, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Southern California. It might just be one of the best, too. That's a big claim, but we've been over a half-dozen times, and Chef Johnathan and his crew have earned that sort of praise in my book. Consistently inventive and -- most importantly -- *delicious* food, presented smartly and with great service and value. The optional three-course pre-fixe menu is a screaming value at $45 and will fill you up without making you uncomfortable. If you're looking for traditional Italian -- spaghetti with meatballs in red sauce on a red checkerboard tablecloth, this honestly isn't the right restaurant for you. (That's not a dig-- that type of Italian is magic when properly done, of course, it's just not what Bar Becky does for the most part.) With an open kitchen where you can watch the magic happen and interact with those preparing your meal while sitting at the counter, this place offers dinner *and* a show if that's what you're into, or you can just grab a table and focus on your company and the food. The menu is changes frequently, but standouts include the (seasonal) gnocchi, crispy eggplant (trust me -- I typically don't go for eggplant), short rib, and the desserts are great, too, especially the rich chocolate budino. Misses? Well, parking at the LBX can be difficult at times. Beyond that, there are brief moments of disappointment when a favored menu item is removed to keep the menu fresh and in-season, but there's always the hope that it will come around again when the ingredients are in-season. Chef Johnathan also keeps certain "greatest hits" on at all times, like the eggplant mentioned above. That's genuinely about it. This is a fabulous restaurant, one that you can get reservations for fairly easily. If this place were in Santa Monica, DTLA, or NY, it would be impossible to get a table at night in and night out. Food Scallops with harissa and mint yogurt - Seasoned and cooked very well. The white asparagus was a bit too tart/unbalanced and created slight dissonance. 4.5/5 alla Vodka - An excellent, perfectly cooked pasta . Depth of flavor was moderately high. 4.6/5 Octopus with farro - This was my favorite of the meal. Tender and seasoned perfectly. 4.7/5 Chocolate Budino - A balanced and high quality dessert but low depth of flavor. 4.3/5 Service 4.8/5 - Almost perfect but they did forget my lemon for my water. Atmosphere 4.5/5. Very clean and impressive restaurant, although where I sat (near the door) was too breezy and chilly, even during a warm day. We came in with a party of 8 as we are frequent diners at Trust DTSA and went there frequently when Chef Jonathan was there, which was our reason to try Bar Becky. We tried several different starters and entrees and unfortunately several of our group ended up feeling ill after dinner and/or having a bad meal. A minor complaint to start the meal, the chairs are not comfortable, the glasses are small and require frequently requesting refills of water, and the back room where we were sat didn't even have sun shades so half of our group was sitting with the sun in their eyes for the beginning of our meal. Our server was very polite and knowledge about the menu, except for his suggesting the Lamb Ricotta Gnudi as good, when it was the only dish that didn't get completely eaten from our group. Of the starters, the Ceasar salad and the Beet salad were both delicious. The focaccia was overly salty, but the garlic butter was delicious and overall we would rate the focaccia pretty highly despite the saltiness. The problem came with the entrees. Both of our group members that got the bone marrow bolognese ended up sick and throwing up after getting home after dinner. The lamb ricotta gnudi was an incredibly small portion to the point that we jokingly questioned our server where half of the food was. The lamb dish was also over salted to the point that we couldn't eat it all despite the portion being very small. It tasted as if half of a container of salt was spilt into the dish. The pork chop was pretty good. The swordfish was fine. The pasta vodka was pretty good. The pesto rigatoni and the hamachi crudo were great. Garlic Butter Focaccia: 4.5/5 Ceasar: 5/5 Beet salad: 4/5 Old Fashioned: 4.5/5 Bone Marrow Bolognese: 0/5, both people who ordered this threw up and are feeling ill now. We were SO excited to finally try Bar Becky when we were in town visiting family and wowee folks will I be back!! We had... Honestly we had so much food between the 6 of us and shared everything. I loved it all - like actually everything. Here's some highlights if you're not sure where to start: -The inspiration for this spot is truly special. You can see and feel the love put into Bar Becky through the delicious food, classy but welcoming decor & attentive service. -All the cocktails are good and they will gladly help you navigate the cocktail menu. -Yes, you must get the focaccia because 1)it's damn good and 2)all the sauces are damn good and you're going to want something delicious to mop it up with! -I ate hands down the best pork chop and eggplant I've ever had in my life but can't decide which dish was my favorite because everything was that good. -You will not have room for dessert but you should have some because there's a lot of love sprinkled in that too. -I've heard that a lunch menu might also be in their future so stay tuned.
