I do not find this to be a good thing, but I also have four kids and enjoy going to bed at 10pm so take my opinion with a grain of salt. My friend dragged me here on a First Friday and it was just like being in a swimming pool if all of the water molecules were replaced by drunk human beings. Every single molecule. It be crowded. People seemed to really be enjoying themselves, though! If you're looking for the meat market experience, this is a great place. There was a lot of meat that seemed to be on special that evening. Deep discounts. Practically free. So much meat. So much sausage. Uninvited sausages mooshed onto my buttocks and hips while I tried to dance by myself on the ridiculously tiny dance floor. My efforts to be inhospitable and unavailable were also crippled by my friends passionate emoting of "COME HITHER AND BRING ME SAUSAGE". And she's blonde. And hot. It's been a while since I've been out to a bar/club, but I can definitely remember that the experience was not like it is today, or at least not like I had at Bar 35--and that's a great thing. I'm 30 now but when I was 21, we were spending our nightlife at Zanzabar, Blue Tropix, Pipeline (eesh), Black Diamond, O Lounge, etc. In comparison to Bar 35, I would label those bars/clubs for the pretentious and immature "party crowd" (I can say that because that was me back then!) These days, Chinatown seems to be the hotspot for a more mature and socialite crowd and if you're looking for a good time with some dapper folks, Bar 35 and Manifest seem like the places to go. If you're looking for drama mamas, tiny dresses and pretentious glamour girl attitudes, head to Waikiki. I do have to say however that the Oahu nightlife crowd has changed for the better over the years. I'm glad that bars and lounges are more of a thing compared to "clubs." Young people these days are a bit more refined, a little less mainstream, and seemingly more intellectual than we were back then, which is great. Bar 35 is a great place to go to be around that kind of crowd and it works for both older and younger folks. Honestly, I didn't feel very out of place there at all. Just a year ago I was at Ginza and felt like there were a bunch of kids running around me, not to mention I was the tallest person there and I'm not that tall! I love Bar35. Extensive collection of import beers, great ambiance, outdoor patio andddd delicious food. I'm a huge fan of their French Kiss pizza, it's thin crust and it has yummy pesto sauce on it. I could prob eat a large one by myself to be honest. I've tried some others but this was is my favorite. Also here's another big surprise THEIR GYROS ARE AMAZING!!!! I can't do too spicy so I go for their regular one. It's messy but so delicious. The tzatziki sauce is on point. I love their staff, very friendly and accommodating! They also have a great happy hour filled with deals. I did their $25 deal with a bottle of wine and a regular pizza which was enough for me and my friends. This was our first stop of the night and we had a blast. There was plenty of seating and the bar was not overly crowded but had a good mix of people. The music played was THE BEST because it was between 90s-2010 yay area hottness. All music that my husband and I grew up to in California. Drinks are a tad $$$ not bad though. The pour seems a tad weak. The staff was super kind and attentive. They have an outdoor patio as well. It was raining but I did poke my head out and see how adorable it was. Only 2 women bathrooms. Came here while on vacation in Oahu. Located in ChinaTown and when we attempted to go the first time it was closed. I was looking forward to their happy hour but that was my fault for looking at the hours incorrectly. Any who we came back a few days later and the pizza was pretty good. We got a deal where they gave you a good size pizza with a bottle of wine for about 25 bucks. The pizza was New York style and I'm a Chicago pizza kinda guy but regardless it was delicious. I can't remember what day we went but when we arrived the place was dead. I just recently visited this establishment with friends for the first time ever on a Friday evening. Here are my quick takeaways: 1. Good selection of beers. 2. Our waitress was weird. 3. Old school music. (I suppose it depends on who is DJing) It started off not too crowded, but as the night progressed, I was just glad we had a table. There are a lot of different places to look for drink options. The wall by the bar, and various menus (standard and special) at the table all seem to have different drinks to choose from. I almost missed the entire wall menu because from where we were seated, my back was facing the bar. Their list of sours and saisons is a bit sparse for my liking, as those are definitely my favorites to gravitate towards, but I know that I am definitely not a member of the majority when it comes to my taste in beer. We did not eat anything here, so I can't comment on the food. I had to dock a star purely because our waitress really bothered me. She was so impersonal. Every time she stopped by and asked her robotic "Are you guys doing okay?" we would look at each other as she walked away, because we all felt the awkward and forced nature of her question. I would have been totally fine if she had just left us alone for most of the night. In the 2 hours we were there, she probably stopped by our table at least 6 or 7 times. It's one thing to have a friendly waiter who adds to the experience, but this waitress seemed like she really did not want to be there. Service plays an important role, even at a bar. The DJs rotated out throughout the night. The music was pretty good. The last DJ played so many throwback hits, I was reliving my middle school dance. Unfortunately, we ended up having to leave because the music got so loud we could barely hear each other from across the table. Bathrooms are pretty clean. It's nice that there are 2 individual bathrooms for women, even if they are small. I think I would be more inclined to return and try the food here if I had a better service experience with a less awkward waitress. read more

This place is garbage and music is shit. My wife and I got manhandled by security for no good reason. We were with 3 friends. The front Asian doorman let me in for free. He proceeded to charge everyone else I was with when they tried to enter right after me. Not sure what happened there. After we were in for a short while drinking our first round, a black security guard was in the process of throwing two girls out when he shoved me out of his way. Then he had the nerve to manhandle my wife and I for no good reason and throw us both out. This person was clearly on a power trip and treated us like we were belligerent when we had just gotten there (literally our first drink of the night). I honestly had a f'in sober blast at this spot during the 90's bar crawl. I was all over that dance floor showing off my twerking and whining skills--I was drenched through my maxi red dress, and glistening all over that night (in other words I was sweating like a pig oink oink f'yeah!). The best part is that they play dancehall here...its not as hardcore as you would find in the Caribbean (dancers over there on a whole other level) but it suffices for the island. I loved that there are Carnival costumes that were just the right touch of Caribbean ambiance. I cannot wait to come back here again. Bar 35 has some talent mixologists! Every Black Russian I've had there has been divine. The pizzas are also very good and the atmosphere is relaxing. Before the space was Bar 35 it was The Swing Club. This is where sailors used to come to listen to the devil's music (jazz). The Swing Club was the most important location for jazz in Hawaii. There is a commemorative placard above the door that says Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn performed there! It was on the way to our final stop at Bethel Union for dinner. I'm not sure if the guy was new, in a bad mood or if this was just his normal personality. At the very least a smile would have done wonders for the way he came off. We had a few beers and left. I'll be back, but if I see that guy behind the bar I'll take my business elsewhere. Thia place is a gem in downtown, definitely a place to check out for their massive beer selection and reasonable prices especially during happy hour. Where fries are 25% off and 20% off two pizzas. Wednesdays they have beer flights for $7 where you can try a selection of different craft beers. The beer is the highlight but they also have very good thin crust pizza that they make in house, thin, crispy, and flavorful. This is one of my favorite bars for Pau hana since working near downtown. My dear Yelp son Thomas O is moving to California and we decided to throw him one last grand hurrah at Bar 35! We had originally planned on throwing this party at a sushi bar but he's quite the popular yelper, our guest list expanded past the restaurant's capacity. Luckily Bar 35 was more than happy to accommodate our large group fete. I'd thrown my boyfriend's birthday party at Bar 35 a few years back and remembered what an awesome time we had! I haven't had a downtown booze fest in awhile and was pleasantly surprised to see that they've reconfigured the patio area. It has a more enclosed feel which makes it easier for guests to interact. I reserved the patio and it fit our 40+ guests that came in and out throughout the night perfectly. Everyone ordered pizza and drinks on their own, and the waitresses were great about splitting the tabs. If you've ever hosted a large group gathering you know that some places aren't always very accommodating but we didn't have any issues. They have an awesome happy hour at Bar 35 which includes $3.75 Skyy cocktails and $4 beers. The drink menu is ridiculously extensive and dare I say there's almost too many beers to choose from? This is one of the few places I know of that serves Frambois Lambic which is a sweet bottled beer that I adore. None of my friends had ever tried it and all the girls enjoyed the samples I distributed. Their super thin crispy gourmet pizzas are my favorite and our group ate bites of the French Kiss, Sweet Bangkok and Italian Perdition. Had an event at Bar 35's patio bar on a Wednesday. There was a minimum food order, which was fine. However, nearly 50% of the food that was 100% pre-ordered did not come out until after all the guests left (literally every guest). We asked them to cancel the remaining food once our last guest left, but they insisted we pay for it and a 20% mandatory tip. Mind you, our event was 3 hours long, so there was ample time to bring all the (bar) food out while the guests were present. Being that it was a Wednesday, the inside bar had a handful of patrons, & we could've easily had an event without the mandatory quotas. Bar 35 for First Fridays was the place to be! Our group got there around 10PM and there was already a long line. Good thing our other friends got there beforehand. We were fortunate to only wait about 20 minutes. Cover was only 5 bucks, too. Not bad during First Fridays! Once inside, this seemingly narrow bar from the outside opened up to have two rooms, one indoors with couches and a live DJ, then a large patio section in the back. It was pretty stuffy inside the bar, but once outside, the atmosphere was great. Just saw a giant, black RAT run across the bar while eating. I didn't scream, I jumped and nicely told the waitress what was going on. We then decided it was time to leave. The waitress brought us the check for the whole price. After asking for a discount she then went to talk to the bar tender who came back and only offered us our ONE round of drinks for free, but still charged us for all the food we ordered. Bar 35 consists mainly of 3 areas: the main dance floor/bar area, a room with a "beaded curtain" giving patrons some privacy, or an outdoor patio in the rear. Our group chose to sit in the room with the beaded curtain, and this room was very modern and comfy complete with leather couches and miniature stools to sit on. Our server commended our choice and told us we picked "the best place" to sit. Most of the group took advantage of the $3 martini specials, while others chose from some of the 150+ international beers that are available here. I tried 2 of their martinis tonight: The Geisha and the Loosey Liu. Just my opinion: Forget the loosey liu and just ask for the Geisha. To satisfy our appetites, we ordered the euro fries, and 4 pizzas: Tuscan Sun, Veggielicious, Deep Forest, and the Smokey Heaven. Though my favorites were the Tuscan Sun and the Deep Forest, all of the pizzas were quite good and it certainly would be a travesty if you decided to come here and not try at least 1 of their delicious pies. The euro fries comes with 1 sauce with the option of additional sauces for 50 cents each. There are a total of 14 sauces to choose from, and I would recommend the curry mayo or the aioli to go along with your fries. Everyone enjoyed the food tremendously every single piece of pizza was devoured and our dim sum tray of fries disappeared before our very eyes. SERVICE: Terrific and wonderful service. Our server checked up on us in a timely manner, made sure things were ok, and apologized for the slightly delay with 1 of the pizzas we ordered. She provided great service overall. MUSIC: Personally, I loved the music they were playing tonight. It was a mix of rock and alternative, with a lot of cover songs being played....i.e. Kiss me by Sixpence none the Richer and Hungry like a Wolf by Duran Duran. So being that it was First Fridays, me and some friends went out and made Bar 35 our first stop for the night. We got in around 10:30 and it was packed! I was surprised how fast the line went. The first thing I did was to hit up the bar in the back past the hallway (since the front bar was just way too packed with sticky people...gross). What made them lose two stars was based on two things: 1) I ordered a LA water and the guy at the bar gave me a vodka water!! When I took a sip I was like, "WTF?! This ain't my drink!" My friend thought it was because he didn't know how to make it, but it was probably because of the loud music. The LA must have been drowned out by the loud music and he probably heard "water" and just assumed it was vodka water. Good thing I pregamed because if I was sober I probably would've been a little angry. 2) After getting out drinks We made our way back to the front lounge area and the most annoying thing happened...this super bright LED flashlight came out of nowhere and was shinning at our faces! Apparently that's how the waiters/security get around. The first time it happened I was just dumbstruck by the brightness and I let it go but then it happened four more times! Three of the four times was while dancing! So after that we just left to SoHo. Inside was a nice mixed crowd. I really wished I looked up this place prior to my visit, because I didn't know about their pizza until we were leaving. While walking to the door another bright light was up ahead and the girl was carrying two pizzas that smelled SO good. I'll definitely return. My sister decided that she wanted to celebrate her bday at Bar 35. i had never been there so i checked out the website. The contact person listed for 'parties' is George-what a joke. My husband and I tried calling him and left numerous messages and he did not call us back once. I wanted to call and make sure that everything was all set for my sister birthday party. the only person that George did call back was my sister's girlfriend (after her she called numerous times as well). When George finally called back my sister's girlfriend she confirmed that we would not pay a cover charge (the website said that they would have a guest dj and $5 cover) his response "there is no cover and no guest dj - i should know, i book the events." and when she confirmed our reservation for the "VIP" area (I am using the words VIP loosely) he said "oh did i tell you you could have it - well we are having a photo shoot in there - i guess we will work it out." Because it is my sister we all decided that we would worry about George later and go there and have a good time. When we got there the placed looked alright, short line to get in, and no cover. but the VIP section was not ready. I had to call a waitress to set it up which she did and then returned back to tell me it was ready. She did not escort us there and when we made our way thru the crowd there was a random person sitting in the 'VIP' area. I asked a staff member if this is the only VIP section and if is was for the bday party. the staff member said this is the only VIP section and wasnt sure if it was for the Bday party and would go find out. when he came back after 5 min he told me he couldnt find anyone and did not know who the room was for. I had to go and find someone to help us. When we finally got settled in the 'VIP' section it was so hot. We tied the metal chain curtains together just to get some cool air in there. And these 'models" that were there for the photo shoot kept poking in their head (good thing we got there first - i am sure that George didnt tell them that we would be in there) we did order some food - the Euro fries were pretty good with the kim chee mayo and spicy aoli. We also got the #6 pizza - not sure of the name but one of the staff said it was the most popular. The drinks and food came quickly and we were happy with our server. There was also an extensive beer menu that a friend of ours was excited about (i am not a beer drinker). No one from management came by to make sure everything was ok and that we were satisfied with the 'VIP' area. And because of how hot it was in the 'VIP' area everyone was outside. We even handed out the paper plates that we brought for the cake for our guests to use as fans. The frequency we're at this bar is occasionally REALLY high, and generally pretty high. It's always the default place to go because the staff is consistently chill and outgoing, and drama is never a consideration. The bar's true appeal is for beer lovers. Anyone who subsides solely on "green bottles" will miss out on the immense variety of beers that Bar 35 carries. There's a weekly beer tasting for $20 every Wednesday from 6-8 PM, which provides you with eight beers you would probably never have the balls to order, along with a handy worksheet explaining what origins and characteristics each possesses. I will admit that I have found at least five of my new favorites from these tastings, and am infinitely more adventurous in tasting new options. Knowing is half the battle, after all. Next is the food. It's simple, it's American, and yet it's amazing when you're sober and orgasmic when you're drinking. There's a line of thin-crusted pizza selections, including the Gyromatic (lamb and tzatziki), the Deep Forest, and even a Salmon pizza if you're that kind of person. Order fries or chicken nuggets, and you'll get what you expect. What you won't expect is the option to pick up a couple of unique dipping sauces, including my personal choices, the garlic aioli, curry mayo, and plain old ranch. This bar's appearance is very mainland, with a long bar and dark lighting, as well as an open lounge area occasionally occupied by a DJ. There's an outdoor section that gets packed pretty quickly, where you can smoke if you must. I personally prefer the slow nights when you can relax and chat without shouting over the DJs beats, but there's a very different (but still great) vibe on busy nights. *Note: Do not leave the bar on busy nights. Bar 35 is awesome any night but Wednesdays are my favorite! Every Wednesday they have beer and pizza tastings. For $20 you get to taste 5 beers and then pick which one you liked the best to have again for your 6th. Each beer comes with a small slice of pizza. I'm not big on pizza so I opt for the crispy chicken nuggets and french fries. There are about 10 different sauces to pick from and I've tried most of them and they are all delicious!! I had a good experience here at Bar 35. Inebriated after our booze cruise and still in the mood for more debauchery, we headed on over to this 'local' spot. We managed to snag one of their little booth areas that was hidden in the back after an hour or so and ordered two pizzas, which i must add, are pretty delicious. I can't remember how the music was, but it was suitable for the dry hump and stripper moves my friends managed to perform that night, therefore i take it in as a success for the DJ. I like this bar, not for the GREAT selection of alcohol, not for the cute little outdoor sitting area in the back, nor the cool/dark mysterious interior ambiance...!!! :-) So why the four stars? Well I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEIR PIZZA'S! Not just one but all of it! The pizzas are not big, nor are they tiny, lets just say a guy could gobble it up in less than a minute, whereas I would take my sweet time savoring every bite! Finally a bar in this town that's totally my speed. Bar 35 is definitely the kind of place I could see myself hanging out on the regular. A great beer list (by any standards - even Portland standards), some tasty cocktails, delicious pizzas, friendly service, a swankier-than-average atmosphere but with a laid-back feel, a great back patio, and DJ's! Oh yeah. All it needs is a group full of people in Lederhosen, and you've got a party. Which is what we did here last Wednesday night. Party. Hearty. To the tunes of great hip hop and R&B (the DJ even played the Bed Intruder song). Rad. I love a bar that takes itself seriously enough to have an amazing drink selection, but is at the same time laid back enough so that we can chill. The staff were even stoked that we showed up in the partyhosen. +1 for that. In a city full of bullshit tourist bars (and I say this as a visitor), Bar 35 was a welcome oasis. read more

5 reasons you need to drop by Bar 35. 1)for all you gourmets, the thin crust pizza here is tasty. Don't even try to categorize it as bar food. 2)for all you discriminating beer drinkers, the selection is global and runs around 100 deep. Yes you read that right. 100. And don't be scared mr. mainstream domestic beer guy. Its not just chimay and a bunch of other fancy smancy beers. PBR and Miller High Life were available last time I visited. 3)What? You like music? Local jazz/funk/hip-hop band Swampa ZZ currently rocks it here Thursday nights. Sometimes it's crowded, sometimes it's not. As long as you appreciate good music, you should enjoy yourself 4)Don't bother you? Just let you sip your drink in peace? Settle in on one of their couches and aimlessly watch the movies they have projected on the wall. 5)It's beautiful outside? Why be inside? Grab your drink and cruise out w/your friends to their patio. No griping about chinatown parking please.
