So it seems ol' Hai Authentic is now Bao Gogo. I was not sure what to expect, but this is a new darling to Alpharetta's dining scene, in my opinion. I stopped in for lunch today and had the flounder. It was so good! Spicy and tingling with all the Szechuan flavors that you don't find too often around here. They do not dumb down the flavor and now has a spot in my rotation. The food is pretty decent as we ordered noodle dishes and skewers for a family of 4. The owner (I think) didn't look at pleased to be there and gave us only 1 set of menu. I noticed the table next to us received a different menu and inquired about and she completely ignored me. Very disappointed to say the least so we were only able to order from the skewers menu (red menu) and not the menu that contained different dishes (white menu). read more

HAI in Alpharetta was A-OK! We were in the Windward area and I was craving Chinese food - and thankfully we found Hai right around the corner. We had the pup with us and there was outdoor seating that was dog friendly. We ordered the "Xiao Long Bao" Pork Soup Dumplings (5 for $10), the dry fried string beans and the hot and numbing flounder stone pot. The dry fried string beans and the spicy flounder were solid Szechuan dishes. I was a little disappointed by the soup dumplings - the skin was ok - not too thick and didn't break. The filling was also ok. But for $2 a dumpling... I was expecting much more. Overall, definitely recommend if you're craving Szechuan food, but I would say maybe skip the soup dumplings next time! read more

I enjoyed this place. It is so pretty inside and clean. The prices are a little bit high but they have some really nice Asian dishes you won't typically see at a regular Chinese or Thai restaurant. Visited for the first time today. It was good, but below expectations food wise. Service was good as well as the atmosphere, upscale casual. The duck buns were similar to Peking Duck. These were good, but the duck lacked flavor. The fish filet with chili was my favorite dish, quite tasty with the perfect balance of heat and flavor. The fish filets were cooked just right retaining their flavor and tender texture. I would definitely order this again. Chicken fried rice was good, but nothing special and missing any hint of wok hei. Chicken strips were marinated well remaining tender and stir fried with diced onions and bean sprouts that were so few they were barely noticeable. I give this a 3 out of 5 stars. Singapore noodles could be a very tasty and satisfying dish, buy not here. Where most restaurants serve this with a mix of shrimp and roast pork, Hai only uses shrimp. This dish was quite bland with hardly any curry flavor. The noodles were very dry and chewy and the lack of green peppers and sprouts made this dish pretty one dimensional and uninspiring. I give this a 2 out of 4 stars. Though disappointing overall, I will be back again to give them a chance at redemption, perhaps trying some of their more regional spicy dishes. We ordered shrimp tempera, egg drop soup, chrispy pig feet, soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and sesame chicken. The sesame chicken looked and tasted like it came out of the freezer, The sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. Definitely not made in house. The egg drop soup was the worst I've ever tasted. I love this place! As i entered the restaurant, host came up and sat me immediately in this casual place. The menu had tons of vegetarian options, and I couldn't decide what to choose, so I asked the waiter for recommendation. He recommended Hot and Numbing Casserole and he was spot on! The service was fast and food came out in on time after placing an order. The food came out bin this wok with bunsen burner lit under wol to keep the dish nice and hot. The dish had tons of vegetables and it was nice and spicy. The recommendation was spot on and was extremely satisfied with the choice. It was an authentic Chinese dish from Sichuan region. Overall the food was ok but nothing memorable or great. The crispy pork feet were tasty. Singapore noodle was lacking flavor and only had shrimp as the protein. Hai was a complete let down when we were craving Chinese and honestly some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The Dan Dan noodles and wontons had an overpowering, bitter taste from the Szechuan peppercorns. So bitter that it was impossible to finish the dish, which was too big of a turn off for me. Soup dumplings tasted interestingly, just like the Costco frozen ones (not saying they are, but sad that it was the same quality) with a thick and doughy exterior and meatball-like filling. It was so good that I took my family to eat lunch on a Sunday afternoon the following weekend. We ordered a few items such as Crispy Pigs Feet, Mongolian Beef, Wuhan Sesame Noodles, Minced Flounder Fish Tofu and Shredded Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce. These are just alright. Service is quick and great. We sat down as soon as we arrived and the food came out pretty fast. Food: * Szechuan Chili Wontons ($10 for 6): Very tasty! I like these without the mustard sauce on top. Some people LOVE the mustard- but it is not for me. Otherwise, it's a super tasty app - must order! * Szechuan Chili Chicken ($16): Tasty and not too spicy. Lots of flavors and it comes out wrapped in a duck-shaped(?) aluminum foil. I thought that was a little strange, but this one was good. Lots of chicken too. * Hot & Numbing Flounder ($20): FAVE! This is a must-order for me. This entree comes with a lot of flounder. Bean sprouts at the bottom. This dish does have peppercorns which I am not a fan of, but I basically just dodge those when I can (lol). * Three Spice King Mushroom and Beef ($16): Eh. The mushroom and beef were overdone. Mapo tofu was authentic and good, their dragon eggplant was one of the best I've had. flavorful, perfect balance of sweet and sour and I liked the sliced circles. pepper beef, while a little too sweet, was the much needed variety (there's asparagus and peppers and onions). Food is good. It's not great but it's pretty good. Service is alright too. We ordered the szechuan chili chicken, three pepper beef, and the dry fried eggplant. The chicken and eggplant were good. If you're not able to handle spice though the chicken might be too hot. The beef was too sweet though. I would say though that getting the lunch special looks like good bang for your buck. I didn't get a lunch special but I saw a lot of other people getting them and it's $10 for the order with rice, soup, and some wonton crackers. All in all, I think it's worth the trip! Absolutely love this place whenever we want authentic Chinese cuisine. There haven't been too many things we've tried that we haven't enjoyed so far. Two go tos we always get are Grandma's noodles and the Szechuan Chili Chicken. You can't go wrong with those. Other items we've enjoyed are the lamb chops, dry fried eggplant, and veggie dumplings that we would get again. The restaurant is clean and bright with servers that check on you often.
