Hot & Numbing Flounder
Jack S.

Great spot in the area for a Sichuan fix. The hot and numbing flounder is delicious, and the kitchen gets dishes out quickly.

Tso chicken - crunchy , fresh and lunch special came with rice and spring

HAI in Alpharetta was A-OK! We were in the Windward area and I was craving Chinese food - and thankfully we found Hai right around the corner. We had the pup with us and there was outdoor seating that was dog friendly. We ordered the "Xiao Long Bao" Pork Soup Dumplings (5 for $10), the dry fried string beans and the hot and numbing flounder stone pot. The dry fried string beans and the spicy flounder were solid Szechuan dishes. I was a little disappointed by the soup dumplings - the skin was ok - not too thick and didn't break. The filling was also ok. But for $2 a dumpling... I was expecting much more. Overall, definitely recommend if you're craving Szechuan food, but I would say maybe skip the soup dumplings next time!

If you like authentic Chinese food, this should be your go to place! The flavor is out of this world, everything is fresh and the service is excellent! You definitely have to try it plus the prices are very reasonable!

Needless to say We finished everything! The eggplant appetizer was amazing!

Great food excellent service! Seating area was clean and inviting. Adequate seating for small groups. They also have patio seating if you prefer.

Fish Filet with Chilis

Visited for the first time today. It was good, but below expectations food wise. Service was good as well as the atmosphere, upscale casual. The duck buns were similar to Peking Duck. These were good, but the duck lacked flavor. The fish filet with chili was my favorite dish, quite tasty with the perfect balance of heat and flavor. The fish filets were cooked just right retaining their flavor and tender texture. I would definitely order this again. Chicken fried rice was good, but nothing special and missing any hint of wok hei. Chicken strips were marinated well remaining tender and stir fried with diced onions and bean sprouts that were so few they were barely noticeable. I give this a 3 out of 5 stars. Singapore noodles could be a very tasty and satisfying dish, buy not here. Where most restaurants serve this with a mix of shrimp and roast pork, Hai only uses shrimp. This dish was quite bland with hardly any curry flavor. The noodles were very dry and chewy and the lack of green peppers and sprouts made this dish pretty one dimensional and uninspiring. I give this a 2 out of 4 stars. Though disappointing overall, I will be back again to give them a chance at redemption, perhaps trying some of their more regional spicy dishes. I hope they don't disappoint a second time or it will be my last time.

Food: Mediocre Service: Good Ambiance: Nicely decorated My hubby and I were on the hunt for a new Resturant to try! Our first choice was closed. So we decided to try Hai. I love dim sum. We ordered shrimp tempera, egg drop soup, chrispy pig feet, soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and sesame chicken. The sesame chicken looked and tasted like it came out of the freezer, The sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. Definitely not made in house. The egg drop soup was the worst I've ever tasted. It was tasteless. They definitely didn't add sesame seed oil. However, the crispy pig feet and tempura shrimp were really good! This is the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars.

I love this place! As i entered the restaurant, host came up and sat me immediately in this casual place. The menu had tons of vegetarian options, and I couldn't decide what to choose, so I asked the waiter for recommendation. He recommended Hot and Numbing Casserole and he was spot on! The service was fast and food came out in on time after placing an order. The food came out bin this wok with bunsen burner lit under wol to keep the dish nice and hot. The dish had tons of vegetables and it was nice and spicy. The recommendation was spot on and was extremely satisfied with the choice. It was an authentic Chinese dish from Sichuan region. The Sichuan peppers used in this dish were perfect numbing my mouth. I would come back here again just for this dish as I have not found it jn another restaurant..

The ambiance does not match the cuisine. It says they are dim sum but the menu had very few items for dim sum. The photos on the outside of the restaurant showed more than what they serve. Some food items Yelpers said they ate were not found on the menu. Service was ok. It was not bad but considering there weren't customers when I dined it was not great. Overall the food was ok but nothing memorable or great. The crispy pork feet were tasty. Singapore noodle was lacking flavor and only had shrimp as the protein. The fried eggplant was standard tasting. The crispy pork was not what was expected and was difficult to eat. Not pictured is the soup dumpling which had soup inside but the dumpling skin itself was too thick and doughy.

Name changed to Bao Gogo. If you're visiting Alpharetta and don't have really good Chinese at home, go here or order delivery now. Truly authentic flavors with fresh ingredients. Changed to more of a low-service model but the food is great. Grandma noodles are my wife's favorite. I can't do super hot any more so got shredded chicken with carrots, bell peppers and wood mushrooms.

Do they serve alcohol?

Yes, they are. But i only see the beer on the menu!

How is the Dim Sum? I'm from California where the carts come by and you are charged by how much your order. I would like to know if the Dim Sum carts come by individually for sampling or if each dish is prepared by a menu order?

I don't think they have carts. I think it's just menu order.

I've tried a variety of dishes over the years and they've been able to maintain great cooking consistency. Their dining room service used to be high-touch. They lost a couple older, but much more service oriented wait staffers over the years. Whenever you had lobster before, they would offer a new plate in exchange of your existing plate filled with discarded shells. Today, they couldn't care less. But, the biggest detraction now is that they have significantly reduced their portion sizing. It's been a short few months since I've dined in, but I was there this week and ordered a variety of dishes and was hugely DISAPPOINTED that most dishes were HALF-SIZED compared to last year. IT WAS SHOCKING. The menu prices have always been premium pricing but it's even more so today when shrinkflation showed up this past week. It was really a let down because they have raised prices over the years but at least kept the sizing fairly consistent. I was okay paying higher prices for good portions and good service, but that equation simply doesn't add up anymore.

I ordered 2 dishes to go (Mama's Chicken, and Bamboo + Pork) for my parents and me. I come to pick up the foods at the counter and behold, they give me 2 tiny boxes of white steam rice. No problem, so I asked for extra white rice. The front counter guy said it's an extra $1. I am like sure, he was then no, it's $2 extra. I was like, can you give me a bigger container than the tiny one you got. He said same tiny container. I was like can I just a one big one for $2. He said No, $2 for each tiny container. I was like seriously? I just spent $35 with them and I can't even get enough rice for me and my parents. Never in my years, have I ever had an issue about getting extra rice for any restaurant. This has got to be the cheapest restaurant in the world. I finally told the guy, don't worry about it. I didn't want to pay $4 extra for tiny containers or rice. They lost a long time customer for a such little dollars. Its the principle and they provided horrible customer service. I will not be coming back and I highly suggest in not giving these people any business especially on how cheap they are. I provided a photo of the rice containers that come with each entree. Nothing sucks more than having entrees and not enough rice to eat it with. Their entrees lack portions as their portions have gotten alot smaller as well.
