Only open for carry out only as of January 14th, 2022. It's quite sketchy inside, dirty, water stain. My husband was concerned about eating here. Grabbed some pad Thai with steamed tofu, chicken and veggies, extra extra hot and pad prik with steamed tofu and chicken, medium plus spice. They don't offer scallops any longer. Carry out oder takes about 25 minutes to be ready, called in on our drive there. Must be busy since I was put on hold for a bit ahead of my order. The pad Thai had good heat, 10x isn't too hot for my hubby. The couple of bites burnt my mouth. The pad prik is so-so, not super flavorful, way too heavy on the white onions and greens onions. The pad Thai was crushed, small cardboard shelving the rice and my pad prik on top of it.

Jeffrey B. and I had a craving for Thai and thought we would try something different for a change. Based on Yelp reviews and the location we settled on Bangkok Express. It took us a while to find it. It's located on the east side of Southfield Rd. in a strip mall behind Big Boy. The decor was a little dated and the wall paper was peeling off the wall. However, the place was large for a Thai place and it was clean. I started with Hot and Sour soup. The soup was thick with a lot of chicken and was steaming hot. However the soup didn't have much flavor and was missing that signature sour "kick". I ordered the Pad Walnut since I've never really heard of it and it sounded good. I got chicken and medium spice. The dish was egg noodles topped with vegetables, chicken and walnuts. Though everything seemed fresh, it was not very impressive. The dish had almost no real flavor other than generic Chinese stir fry taste. Also, in my honest opinion, the spice level was not medium. I dare say that it was under mild. Maybe I'm just used to hotter dishes but it seems like I'm having a hard time getting the right amount of spice. The place was clean and the service efficient. It wasn't a bad place. I was pretty disappointed in the flavors of the dishes. I feel that I could have made the same chinese stir fry at home with frozen vegetables, chicken and ramen noodles. I don't think there is any reason to return when there are many more flavorful restaurants.

I've been coming here since May 2019 when my job location moved. I have tried so many Thai places in the area and THIS IS THE BEST HANDS DOWN. They are so nice and the food ALWAYS hits. I mean always always. And they don't give any problems about customizing anything. The order is always correct and I order 4-5 lunches at a time for my employees. Trust me, come here.

Food is delicious and authentic enough, I'd give 5stars if they had more of a selection of more traditional dishes

I liked the question "what Spicy level do you want ... (mild/medium/spicy)" for each dish. Decent sized portions and tasty food. The many and varied Pad Thai plates beckoned and we tried the omlette Pad Thai which was delicious and piping hot. Chicken Tom Yum soup and shrimp fried rice also were pleasurable. The atmosphere is really casual - the layout is more of a cafe than a formal dining room. I would definitely return and with friends.

To start, we got moo krob (deep fried pork belly) which is the Thai version of Chinese siu yook. I have to say, I like siu yook so much more - it's a lot more flavorful having been marinated with five spice and served with delicious sweet hoisin sauce for dipping. The pork here was bland and the sauce (fish sauce based) was pretty one note. For my entree, I got rad na (rice noodles with gravy, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and choice of meat - I got pork) which was one of the best I've ever had! They used fresh rice noodles and sautéed it properly to give it the "wok hei" (wok-seared flavor). The gravy was deep and flavorful and the portion size was very good. If everything else was as good as my entree, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars. Unfortunately, my mom's Kao mun gai (steamed chicken with rice and "special sauce") was awful. She asked if the dish had any spice because she can't do spicy, and the server said no, so she decided she'd try it. The chicken was way overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The sauce, the only thing providing flavor and moisture, was spicy so that she couldn't eat it. We asked if there was any sauce she could get instead that wasn't spicy, and they said no, but they can give us a bottle of soy sauce. So my mom used some of that, and also took some of my rad na gravy. But because the chicken was so dry and bland, it was beyond saving. My dad got the Thai basil fried rice, mild spice. It was definitely hotter than other Thai restaurants' mild, and my dad said the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. I tried some of it and it was not bad, but nothing remarkable. They told us that traditionally, it's served with the rice on the side, which was strange to me because then it's not fried rice - it's sautéed meat and veggies with rice on the side. I am curious about how some of the other dishes taste here, but it's a shame that 3/4 of the things we ordered were mediocre to downright bad. While I enjoyed my entree, I felt bad my parents didn't enjoy their food.

The food is great, but oh man they're not playing around with the spice levels. I did get hot (not Thai hot), and it's enough to bring a bit of sweat, which I love. It's not enough to mute the flavor, but it's strong and it lingers on your lips. I ordered shrimp, fully expecting to be screwed on the number of shrimp(a recurring theme in my life) - But there was a decent number, and when I chopped them up enough to work for the dish. Overall, a solid experience. I'll definitely be stopping by in person some day.

I don't know if they're having an off night or something, but the food was so bad no one finished their meal. The spring rolls taste like coleslaw, the pad Thai has zero flavor and it smells like wet hay, and the wonton soup tasted like chicken water. I honestly can't believe how terrible it was. My MIL said the curry was good (that's why I gave 2 stars), but she asked for no spice and it was quite the opposite so she couldn't eat much. We spent almost $90 on this takeout meal and it was so incredibly disappointing I can't justify ever eating here again.
