Many "Thai" restaurants in SE Michigan are owned or staffed by Hmong/Lao ... and the recipes sometimes vary. Then there is the additional matter of altering the recipes for a broader American audience (by adding sugar). Thai Star serves authentic Thai food. It is not the fanciest restaurant, but it is plenty nice enough and certainly clean. My favorite server is named Pink. She is both knowledgeable and attentive. I really like their Angry (spicy) Catfish. It is available in spice levels for all patrons.

Thai star has a great lunch menu. I got the drunken noodles, and it was great to see that they had the thick noodles and a good amount of sauce. But truly enough food for 2 meals :) The spring roll could have been crispier, but always a good app to the meal. The service was fast to help move through lunch quickly.

I don't see what the fuss about this place is. In my opinion nearby Aaroyd Thai is much better. As is increasingly the case with many Thai places this restaurant seems to mainly traffic in carry out orders, which is just as well in the case of Thai Star as the dining room has a distinctly depressing, downtrodden vibe. It's usually nearly empty and on my last visit was so cold I left my coat on. Even my waitress remarked on how chilly it was in there. It was also so quiet I could hear the hum of the neon in the window that I sat by cause I love neon and hey, I had my pick of the dining room. Sure, it was likely colder by the window but it was frigid everywhere in there. Anyway, it took me five minutes to realize there was no music playing and as they have no television either there was no soundtrack to dinner in a restaurant with exactly one other patron. I ended up punching up a Thai restaurant playlist on my Spotify just to allay the uneasy near silence. Portions are huge and meals come with a small soup and an egg roll. Sounds great, right? Well, it would be but unlike most reviewers here I'm not much of a fan of the food here. I'm no Thai expert but it doesn't seem like real Thai. It's maybe a Chinese/Thai hybrid in my opinion. (The dining area also looks more like a classic Chinese restaurant than a Thai joint to me as well.) The rice always has this slimy, sticky consistency I just don't like either. I actually find the food here better as refrigerated leftovers than served piping hot and fresh. I've eaten here maybe four times with long intervals between each visit. Long enough for me to forget what I might say about my meal in a potential review and to convince myself I might like it better the next time. This time I don't think there's going to be a next time as I'm hooked on Aaroyd Thai now. Service here is good. They're very nice to the point where on my last visit I actually felt bad knowing I was going to stab em in the back on Yelp but hey, I have to keep it real. Has anyone else out there ever gotten pangs of guilt for giving a tepid to bad review of a seemingly struggling mom and pop who are earnest and kind? God, I can't get away from the depressing vibes even when I'm not there. If you like Thai Star good for you but it's got no sparkle in my eyes.

-5 Star, if I only could. Ordered pad Thai 10x hot (extra $4 for 10 teaspoons of dry chili) with chicken, steamed tofu and veggies and pad prik with chicken, steamed tofu and added veggies, medium plus spice. The pad Thai was nowhere near 10x hot, maybe 2x hot at most. The pad prik sauce was super bland and so boring and was only about a mild plus, if that even. Some fresh Thai chili would make their dishes properly hotter, but they only have a liquid Thai chili and dry chili powder. Wasn't as good as our first visit at all either. I didn't even want my dish after trying both chilies. The woman lectured me that I should have ordered it twice as hot instead. I had medium our first visit and it was hot enough for me. Service was beyond bad. We kept having to ring the front bell every time we needed anything at all. Bill total was $34.61. The woman and owner absolutely refused to take our Amex and told us we had to get cash or else. She said it's their rule. They aren't connected with Amex at all. She said Amex doesn't pay them. Keep in mind our bill came on an American Express bill try. Owner said it's an old tray. It was hard to believe a word coming out of this owner's mouth at all. Kept saying how Amex doesn't pay them. I asked if they could try running my Amex card at all. The owner said the Amex card will go through, but they just won't get paid. How absurd is that? Never heard such a story from an owner before. My husband had to leave me behind and get cash to pay our bill. Awful business acumen!!! Definitely not a supporter of shop local and small businesses.

I've had the (curry pad thai) 3x - Best I've ever had! Service can be slow limited staff - so be patient. There's not much to be said for the decorum, it's clean and I'm there for the food not ambiance anyway. Try it I think you'll like it - I drive out of my way to come here for lunch.

Ordered a carry out today. Had three orders - vegetable curry, pad bai kra praow, and pad kra tiem prik tai. Two entrees were ordered medium plus and one was hot. I was excited to try a new place since there's quite a bit in Warren. The inside doesn't seem as up to date and some others in the area, but I'm more concerned about the food. The entrees come with a spring roll and hot and sour soup, which I thought was cool, considering many or any don't do that except during lunch dine-in. So it was nice it was included also for dinner carry outs. All of the dishes, however, were super bland tasting and had no spice whatsoever. They all tasted more like a very very low mild. Also, the portions weren't as big as compared to other places. Not sure if I'd go back considering there's so many more in the area.

Best Thai in Detroit, a hidden gem. My favorite is the pineapple curry, C3. My wife's favorite is the peanut curry.

My girlfriend took me to this restaurant as her and a co worker went here and enjoyed it. It is considered one of the best restaurants in Warren. We started with the crab Rangoon and Tom yum soup which both were delicious! After that, I had the pad cashew that was also delicious! It's a place that is not recognizable when driving, but make sure to stop by for some great Thai food!

Each entree comes with your choice of Tom Yum or Tom Kha soup.

Have to say, probably the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. Recommended by a co-worker, must have been angry with me.

They give you a number and call it out when your order is ready. Behind the counter is a line of high powered stoves to heat up woks to serve food that's piping hot. Yes, it's the stoves that require a steady trickle of water to run over them to prevent the fire from melting the metal stove. I think that must be the secret why the food is so delicious due to the wok hei. I've had their Thai Stir-fried Glass Noodles (Pad Woon Sen), listed as Woosen Pad Thai on their menu, as well as their Curry Noodle Pad Thai with chicken. It's always been delicious, although be careful with their spice level. They can't serve it without any heat, but the mild still has a kick! They also have drinks and bubble tea-the Thai tea is delicious and has a strong flavor and a lot of caffeine, but their boba is hard so I wouldn't get it again. For seating, there's open food court seating indoors and outdoors.
