I went a bit overboard by ordering a lot as I wanted to try a few dishes and knowing there would be left overs. I have to tell you their gang gai is fantastic! I got it with chicken. Super flavorful and the addition of basil even made it better! Their tom kha soup was good but I may have had better? Their crab rangoons were also good and they give you a lot for your $. So the food was great I had really simple food what I call a spring roll they call a fresh roll they were very fresh and tasty it also got an order of pad thai with tofu which was great I hadn't had tied in a million years and it was excellent I did want it spicy and when she confirmed for me did I want it very spicy I hesitated a moment and said just spicy which was the right call it was plenty spicy. I did get the food to go, shocker, which was ready to go right on time if you were to eat there I wouldn't call it casual but I wouldn't call it divey either but I like divy. Wow...... the lady who answered the phone was amazing! I placed my order and it was done in 10 minutes. Ordered the Shrimp pad Thai extra hot. I wanted it hot but not like so hot you can't enjoy it. The spice level was perfect! Excellent taste, just enough spice to make your nose run but such a good flavor you can't stop eating it! It was so fresh and well prepared. I'd driven by Aaroyd Thai dozens and dozens of times before finally setting foot inside. (I'm tempted to say a hundred times and maybe that's just supposed to be a figure of speech but I don't know if it's quite that many times.) I've eaten at both nearby Thai Kitchen and Thai Star several times as they've both been around longer than Aaroyd - to my knowledge - but never reviewed either on here as somehow neither made much of an impression on me. I guess they're both threes? I love Thai so much you have to fuck it up pretty damn bad to get less than a three star from me. But that's neither here nor there as this review is for Aaroyd Thai. Aaroyd Thai is an odd sounding name to my American ears that makes me think of SNL OG Dan Akroyd every time. If phone books were still a thing in 2023 I might hypothesize they were trying to get the first listing in one, definitely at least for Thai. It's very unassuming when you're driving by on Dequindre, perhaps one reason I kept barreling by so many times. I did notice the use of the Thailand flag on their sign on the front facade of the strip mall, a cool little detail if you're a flag nerd like me. The interior is a bit odd, with a lot of unused space, with a semi walled in dining area with some character in the front corner a ways away from the main counter and a row of tables against the wall away from the windows with almost nothing in the way of decor but closer to the main counter. I tend to sit at the boring tables just so Song, the gal who's working every time I go in there doesn't have to walk so far. The side against the wall is booth seating as well, always a plus in my book. I usually come in for dinner on Monday or Tuesday and there's always very little business, a shame since the food here is absolutely bomb! Very flavorful with spice levels that don't mess around- the fabled medium plus still lives and breathes here and it's sometimes close to the edge of my comfort level. I like a little kick and it certainly provides it. Hot or extra hot must be pretty fearsome at Aaroyd Thai. Some places I can hang with their hot but Aaroyd I occasionally think about downgrading to medium. Portions are plentiful, another throwback to the days when medium plus reigned at Thai joints across the land. I open that fridge late at night and boom! there in the styrofoam second meal, just like it should be. Sometimes that strong spice level makes it more of a snack that has me going back for thirds or fourths still later. And it's got that Thai deliciousness that makes it so tasty even cold. The Pad Thai is great, the basil fried rice is great, Vegetable Curry is great, Pad Pak is great, and the Tom Yum soup doesn't disappoint either. I usually get shrimp as my protein and it always tastes nice and fresh. I tried the Gang Paa on my last visit, one of those dishes where I'll just point and say G9 rather than risk butchering the pronunciation of a word like Paa. Don't wanna make a faux paa. *rimshot* It was pretty good but maybe not as hugely satisfying as some of the other dishes. The closest I've had to a disappointment here was the chili paste fried rice, a dish that wasn't jarring any memories from other Thai restaurants and was a bit of a strange combination on the flavor front but even that wasn't all that bad. And now I know that's just not my thing. As far as service sometimes Song is very on point and sometimes she seems to drift off a little. It's always slow when I go in and I know from experience sometimes it's actually harder to stay focused on on your A game when it's like that. So yeah, don't be shy about asking for a box or a water refill if you need one. I hope Aaroyd does get busy sometimes cause I want this place to stay around for many years. I already forgot about all the little mental notes I started making for future Yelp reviews of Thai Star and Thai Kitchen and good riddance. I don't need em clogging up valuable space up in my aging brain cells. I'm gonna keep going to Aaroyd Thai and keep trying more things - still haven't had any appetizers, salads or Thai iced tea. Ordered some NYE Thai food from here today. Started with their crab Rangoon, steamed tofu, chicken pad Thai extra spicy and scallops and steamed tofu pad pak no corn, medium spicy. Had to add spice levels, wasn't asked and had to ask if they wanted my name for the order as well. Food would be done in 20 minutes, ordered at 4:19pm. The food was ready in 20 minutes, They give you a free can of soda, Coke or a bottle of water with your dinner order. The app and two dinners cost us $35.89. Additional costs for a second protein to each meal. The carry out containers are durable and well packed for the entrees. The crab Rangoon styrofoam is vented to keep it from getting too soggy from the drive home. The crab Rangoon inside tastes good, the skins are too thick for my preference. The pad Thai is fully packed, portions are decent as is the pad pak. The pad Thai with the steamed tofu and chicken is pretty good, good portion for sure. The chicken slices are quite sizable in the pad Thai. The pad pak isn't bad, it's not overly salty, has a decent amount of heat, not super flavorful. I had about 4-5 pieces of scallop in my pad pak. There are big chunks of broccoli stalk that I am not so fond of either. Service was quick and efficient. Portions are decent here. read more

We decided to try this place out based on previous reviews. I would probably give it closer to 3.5 instead of four for a couple of reasons. The food here was good, but not great. I did like the sauce the spring rolls came with, but they were run of the mill frozen ones. I ordered the Pad Bai Kra Pow (veggie) and my guy ordered Pad See Ew (pork). Personally, I didn't care for their brown sauce. It was lighter in color and thicker than what I'm used to. We did decide to eat in, and as expected, they weren't busy. At all. Yet, I had to go up to ask for containers, as well as our bill. I'm glad we tried this place, but due to the steep prices and okay food, I don't think we'll be back. We were looking for a place that has Halal food options, and this place had Halal meat as an option which was great. The customer service is just impeccable. The people who work here treat you very well and try their best to answer questions. I really appreciated the elder gentleman who was there to first greet us, and he was kind enough to bring out the chef to help us decide on which items we wanted to order and how to customize them, we asked for extremely spicy food and boy did they deliver! At the time we were the only ones in the restaurant, and they gave us their full attention I would say this is definitely a family friendly place and they are very kid friendly. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. They served us the dishes fresh and piping hot. If you were looking for savory and spicy food, this is the place to go to. I would even come here for large groups as well. It wasn't "bad" but also it wasn't super tasty. I didn't care for the type of chicken they used. It was real chicken, it just was some odd type of slicing of the meat. It sounds odd to say that, I realize that, but I'm not a chef and maybe I don't know the right way to explain it - it was like the chicken was sliced against the grain in thin sheets, similar to prepackaged l lunch meat. I just didn't care for it. Also, I have been eating keto lately, and I have a cheat day each week or ten days so I can have my Pad Thai, which I love, and some ice cream afterwards. My favorite Thai restaurant. Everything is amazing (except their prices.) Try their pineapple curry, Gang Gai, or Yum Neau (Thai salad) Also, they make the best CRAB RANGOON I've ever had. They're so good, I had to capitalize every letter. And there's something about their rice... I think it's the texture. It's almost velvety. I feel stupid waxing lyrical about white rice, but it's really good rice ‍ I would've given them 5 stars... that is if they didn't use inflation as an excuse to price gouge. They announced in advance that they were raising their prices on Mar 1st 2022 I believe. "That's to be expected" I thought. You would expect a restaurant to raise prices 10-15% to keep up with inflation, but they raised their prices about 50%!!! Quite frankly, it's predatory what they're doing. A standard dish went from $11-12 to $17-18. You can go to Olive Garden and get one of their most expensive dishes "Tour of Italy" for $19.49 They do give 10% discount for paying cash, so that helps. read more

So good. First time here, the 4.5 star rating (and that they were open) caught my attention. Got the A12 shrimp appetizer (with the spring roll wrap), the S4 veggie Hot & Sour soup, and the G7 Gang Ped (Pad Ped anywhere else). It was $25 for everything and that was plenty for 2 people. Parking was ample (I'm sure even during non-shelter-in-place times). I can only imagine since everything I ordered was amazing that they knock it out of the park on everything they make. The staff was very nice, but due to COVID-19 I only had a carry out order, so I was in and out, but the interaction I had with the 2 staff members I encountered was pleasant and professional. Quite good for my first time there. It should be understood that this is based on only one visit, and I ordered something that isn't normally on the menu that was recommended to me by someone "in the know". It is honestly the sole reason I went, and it's kind of hard to create a baseline review on a place based on a dish that they only will have every second Tuesday. Ah, but what a lovely dish it is. I don't even know the name of it! It's boiled chicken, skin-on, served over a stickier white rice, topped with some cilantro, and some minced ginger served on the side. So far, it's not exactly running for the roses, though, based on that description, is it? Don't worry about it: the sauce will make everything better, and will haunt your dreams. *Man*, is that ever a lovely sauce that goes along with it. It brings the whole dish together, isn't too hot (spice-wise), and causes the dish to groove. You're going to want more of the sauce. I certainly did. I also ended up asking for a bit more cilantro, which they were happy to provide, and the dish is *plenty* for one person. Yes, I did eat all of mine (minus the included chicken liver, which is a taste/texture that I don't prefer, but don't worry: it's on the side), but I could have easily stopped with about 2/3 of it gone and been happy. As it happened, I was quite hungry, and the workday was a long way from being over...I finished it. Gladly. There were some partially skinned cucumbers on the plate as well, and those got eaten, too. A clear-brothed soup was served alongside, and that functioned, but wasn't anything to write home about. It certainly was consumed, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it at all. Service was very pleasant and attentive. The nice woman knew the dish I wanted to have based on my buddy's recommendation, and she remembered that I'd been there before to try it, but came on a day when it wasn't available, unfortunately. Such is life. So I'll be going back! Yes! Maybe not even on a Tuesday! Who knows? Trust me, though: this dish? Marked "K1" on my bill today? Yeah. Good stuff, Maynard. You want that. Placed an order today, drove 20 minutes to get food and received the wrong order. Called the restaurant and upon returning, received food but no refund for the difference of the two orders. The one of which I was charged was about a $5 difference than the one I actually ordered. Had to then initiate a refund for the difference of the meal. For all of this inconvenience was offered chips instead, because of my strict diet I don't eat chips, the employee then told me "well that is just what we do". The shrimp fresh rolls are the best I've had and I have had fresh rolls from a ton of places in the area.

We tried this place for a Monday night post-work dinner carryout. My husband and I both ordered appetizers. He ordered a won ton soup while I had fresh shrimp rolls. He commented that his soup was good. So for the fresh spring rolls: The rice wrap was perfect, the vegetables had super fresh crunch and substance, and the shrimp was perfectly tender and odorless but tasty. Presentation was on point as well. The rolls peanut dipping sauce was amazing. Not loaded with salt and sugar like places that have no clue what they are doing. Savory and peanut-ey just right. For main course he ordered a dish with beef,rice, and vegetables while I had Pad Thai with Tofu. He ate all of his meal which he never does. He commented there was a lot of sauce but it's better than dried out! He ate his entire entree pretty much until he had to stop and it was a generous portion. My pad thai was really good. Noodles cooked perfect, tofu just right, sauce wasn't overly sweet and salty. I had some taste of super fresh green onions in there. I ate 1/4 of my entree because I ate my entire appetizer!! So good! I'm a vegetarian (no fish sauce, shrimp paste, etc). They had a lot of vegetarian options and they answered any questions I had about the ingredients. They have a "miscellaneous" section of the menu that allows you to customize your dish even more if you want. Large selection! Tofu comes steamed or fried. Brown or white rice available. Aaroyd was recommended by someone at work so I thought I would give it a try. I live in Royal Oak so it isn't too far from me. I usually just order PadThai the first time I try a new Thai restaurant and this was one of the best PadThai I have eaten. The medium spice was perfect and the flavors were outstanding. The portion was also very good. There are other highly rated Thai restaurants closer to me but they aren't nearly as good. This will be my go to Thai restaurant going forward.
