This place is a favorite. We have been going here for about a year. The owner puts so much thought, time and effort into decorating for every holiday. The origami napkins for different seasons, pillow changes in the booth and different centerpieces. I'm always excited to see what she does next. The service is wonderful. We were treated great our first visit, but have felt like family ever since. From recommendations to secret sauces or methods for eating dishes how they would in Thailand, Sue is there guide and assist. I look forward to seeing her as much as I do the food. Our food is always excellent and I like to try new things all the time. But we still have favorites. Appetizers. It's hard not to order the fried wontons, my spouse's favorite. We both enjoy the apple or papaya salad. And I'm a sucker for tum yum soup, theirs does not disappoint. Entrees we often enjoy traditionals like Pad See Ewe and Fried Rice. They are staples for a reason. But I've enjoyed trying many of Sue's recommendations. And I love a ground chicken dish she recommended served with lettuce cups and a fried egg. I wish I remembered the name. But it's one of her favorites. She will know! Be sure to ask for the Thai pickled lime and hot peppers condiment (upon request). My newest obsession is their Chicken Satay salad. It's fantastic. So fresh and delicious, not to mention gorgeous. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. I can't tell you about dessert because we are always too full. But I'm determined to try her mango rice because I'm confident it will be amazing . If you have tried this place, it's worth a visit. Highly recommended from many different outlets so we give this a try. Once you walk in, the restaurant has a strong Thai-inspired atmosphere. Generous portion of food and very deep flavor from all the dishes. If you have low tolerance on spicy food, even the mild option was quite hot, just fyi. Don't let the outside look fool you, the restaurant is very nice inside, beautiful decorations and a comfy atmosphere. The rose napkins arrangement on the plates is very cute. The service was also super friendly and very accommodating to vegan needs. We tried few different appetizers, some of which were made vegan for us, soups and noodles and everything was very good. The chive pancake is so different from what I'm familiar with, but it was surprisingly tasty. Curry puff with taro was amazing, spring rolls which came with dinner plate very tiny but fresh. I've had a Tom Kar soup with tofu and it had a lot of fresh veggies and plenty of tofu. Delicious flavor. My friend had the Tom Yum with tofu and she enjoyed it too. This is by far our favorite restaurant to eat at. The food is phenomenal, the service is excellent, and the ambience is so romantic but also family or friends. The have a cool waterfall in the restaurant with comfortable booths with pillows. They have an extensive Thai menu and can accommodate gluten allergies. We have ordered most of the menu and love it all! My daughter gets the ramen, we usually get a few appetizers and a rice and noodle dish to split. My friend and I decided to try Hug Baan Thai last night. We have been in search of the best Thai restaurant in Metro Detroit, and I think we may have found it! To begin with the atmosphere is very cozy and cute, and the restaurant is very clean. The staff was very friendly through the entire visit. I ordered shrimp pad Thai medium, and it was outstanding. The shrimp were huge and plentiful. The spice level was on the hotter side and next time I will order mild plus. My friend ordered the yellow curry and it was also top-notch. We had the spring roll appetizer and I wouldn't say it was the best spring rolls, they were average. The prices were good and the presentation was beautiful. I went back because I forgot how lackluster it was the first time. Just ok. It's edible. The Panang curry was weak and watery. I decided to dine in at Hug Baan Thai for the first time, since their take out never fails to disappoint! This is at the top of my list for Thai restaurants in Sterling Heights especially since they seem to be one of the only Thai restaurants open on Sundays. I loved the decor and zen atmosphere here. The wooden booths, art, rose folded napkins, and indoor pond really brought character to the space. The only thing was they weren't playing any music, which was unusual for dinning. Visited this place for a quick lunch. The service was quick and staff was friendly and helpful. The place looked nice and clean with their personal touches. We ordered Boat Noodle and Khao soi. Both of them were okay, a little too sweel to our taste. They also offered free eggrolls as appetizer. We also ordered the sausages and they were quite tasty. Hit this spot because our usual haunts the quality and taste of their food is slipping. Pad Thai tastes like nothing, basil fried rice, one piece of basil, no flavor, etc. The place is very pleasing inside, and the preset the tables with rose napkins, which is a nice touch. The servers were fast and attentive. I loved the fresh rolls! Not every place makes them, and not every place makes them well. They were fantastic here, but the peanut sauce wasn't peanutty enough for me. They gave us spring rolls as well, with plum sauce, both were standard flavors. Walking in the door, you're overwhelmed with decorations and decor immediately, but greeted with the biggest smiles from the staff and they never falter. Even the tables had red napkins folded into hearts and roses to head into the month of February - albeit we are still in the beginning of January. I've had many Thai food experiences and I love the spices, the aromas and the food combinations, but honestly, Hug Baan Thai was just like many others. I found the potatoes in the Massaman to be lacking in any flavor. It was just a potato in a curry sauce. A fresh roll appetizer was packed with mostly lettuce and carrots and two smaller shrimp, cut into fours, leaving two ends of the fresh roll with no protein. I was a tad disappointed in two seemingly small details, but 'when the Devil is in the details', it truly does matter. That being said, I would tell someone to give them a try. My opinion may not be the same as theirs and that matters too, but overall I felt it was a little lackluster in the flavor department and would probably choose not to go back. read more

The service was friendly and quick, everything we ordered My friend and I shared the green papaya salad, a dish we had in Thailand, and found theirs comparable, it was so fresh and flavorful. I would go back to order this again. I had the pad see ew, and she had a curry. You are able to pick the chili level, and it can get spicy if you ask for it. Honestly soooooo shocked by the crazy high ratings this place has. Came here a couple days ago for carryout and got shrimp pad Thai mild, and crab Rangoons which came to $24. Price for the pad Thai I think was $16-17 which is pretty steep for what I got. The quality of the shrimp were great but the pad Thai had almost absolutely no flavor at all. It wasn't sweet and tangy, salty, sour- literally tasted like boiled brown noodles. Only thing I was able to taste was the peanuts and green onions. I loved how much they gave of the bean sprouts but so confused how this place is rated so high. I was soooooo bummed as that's one of my favorite Thai dishes to get. The crab Rangoons were nothing special either. Interior was cute and the food was served at 500° lol, never have I ever received food that hot before which I liked. Overall wouldn't come back unless I was ordering completely different items but seeing as this was like a 2.5/5 for me I can't imagine they'd make other things better than the most commonly ordered dish. The papaya salad is fishy and has some crab legs in it, it was too fishy for my husband and after a small taste he told me it was all me. They are going to make us a salad that's less fishy and has crushed peanuts on it. The second version wasn't fishy at all, it wasn't bad. I think less fishy and spicier would be a good middle ground for the papaya salad. The crab Rangoon at first looks like the wonton skin would be thick, but it is so nicely packed with cream cheese and a bit of crab, it's worth a go. For food we ordered the Crab Rangoons, the Laab "Salad," the Chicken Red Curry and Chicken Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was my absolute favorite. It has that slight tomato? flavor in it and the spice was just right, I loved it! The Red Curry was my second favorite with a luxurious creamy curry sauce and a healthy amount of chicken and veggies. The Crab Rangoons were good, but could have used a little more filling, but still very good as is. The Laab was good but could have used a little more texture for me, it was primarily just deliciously flavored ground meat. I would like to see it served with cold, chilled lettuce (along with the cucumbers it came with) so it could be enjoyed as a salad (as the section it was listed). Overall, great spot!
