Tom Yum soup with tofu
Karolina K.

Don't let the outside look fool you, the restaurant is very nice inside, beautiful decorations and a comfy atmosphere. The rose napkins arrangement on the plates is very cute. The service was also super friendly and very accommodating to vegan needs. We tried few different appetizers, some of which were made vegan for us, soups and noodles and everything was very good. The chive pancake is so different from what I'm familiar with, but it was surprisingly tasty. Curry puff with taro was amazing, spring rolls which came with dinner plate very tiny but fresh. I've had a Tom Kar soup with tofu and it had a lot of fresh veggies and plenty of tofu. Delicious flavor. My friend had the Tom Yum with tofu and she enjoyed it too. Pad see-ew was also good with plenty of tofu and veggies. Overall, this was a great meal and I'll definetly be back, especially since they are able to accommodate vegan needs.

This is by far our favorite restaurant to eat at. The food is phenomenal, the service is excellent, and the ambience is so romantic but also family or friends. The have a cool waterfall in the restaurant with comfortable booths with pillows. They have an extensive Thai menu and can accommodate gluten allergies. We have ordered most of the menu and love it all! My daughter gets the ramen, we usually get a few appetizers and a rice and noodle dish to split. I recommend trying the rice berry rice instead of white rice if it comes with the meal. It's an Up charge but totally worth it. Their prices are reasonable also, Check them out! 100/10

Shrimp pad Thai medium

My friend and I decided to try Hug Baan Thai last night. We have been in search of the best Thai restaurant in Metro Detroit, and I think we may have found it! To begin with the atmosphere is very cozy and cute, and the restaurant is very clean. The staff was very friendly through the entire visit. I ordered shrimp pad Thai medium, and it was outstanding. The shrimp were huge and plentiful. The spice level was on the hotter side and next time I will order mild plus. My friend ordered the yellow curry and it was also top-notch. We had the spring roll appetizer and I wouldn't say it was the best spring rolls, they were average. The prices were good and the presentation was beautiful. Next time, I'll have to try the fresh rolls. I definitely recommend this place and will be going back.

I decided to dine in at Hug Baan Thai for the first time, since their take out never fails to disappoint! This is at the top of my list for Thai restaurants in Sterling Heights especially since they seem to be one of the only Thai restaurants open on Sundays. I loved the decor and zen atmosphere here. The wooden booths, art, rose folded napkins, and indoor pond really brought character to the space. The only thing was they weren't playing any music, which was unusual for dinning. Anyway, we ordered the Yellow Curry and Cashew Nut Fried Rice with Crispy Chicken. Our portions were generous and the flavors were rich! I'm excited to come back and try more!

Fantastic food and friendly service! Everything I've tried has been delicious but special love for their gang gai/red curry and their tom kar soup! Look at the size of the shrimp. They are located in a strip mall on 14mile just east of Dequindre. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

If you love Thai food this place is the best! First time coming here and it was amazing! This is a mom and pop place, every mom and pop place I've been to has never disappointed me. When you walk in, it feels like you're in Thailand. The decor and seating brings it out. Starting with Thai tea (always a must). Got the crab Rangoons as an app, packed with flavor and filling. My GF and I got the drunken noodles with crispy chicken. Delicious! Every bite packed with flavor, chicken cooked perfectly. Also tried the Thai beef salad and that was really good too! I will be coming back to try more. I live 3 hrs away and would drive down here to get more of their amazing food. Their service and hospitality was also amazing. After we paid the owner thanked us for coming in and gave us a home cooked Thai meal she made. Said this was for customers coming in today cause she was celebrating 3 years of being open. So if you're ever in the mood for Thai food stop here, you won't regret it I promise!

A solid 5/5 experience. Everything from the food, the ambiance, the service was great. Food: got chicken skewer, a diced chicken salad, a soup, a diced chicken with egg (M2). Wow. Very flavorful. All cooked to your spice preference. Not overtly salty. Soup was creamy, slightly sweet, and salty and savory all at the same time - a delight for the taste buds. The M2 (see menu) was the highlight. Spicy thin diced chicken in a savory sauce paired with a runny egg. Chicken skewer had a unique thai taste. Service: on point. Quick. Returned quickly for refills. Answered all menu questions. Pleasant individuals. Ambiance: never see a mom pop asian restaurant so well decorated. It is very authentic inside with thai ornaments. Not high end but culturally unique. Would come back for sure.

Hug baan Thai aka Sala Thai. Was this place renamed? Was Sala Thai. Been here one time. Wow! Very nice decor! The chairs are incredibly beautiful. Great Thai food. One of the best in the area. Nice workers. Just too far from where I live. Good Thai papaya salad. Michigan has a large community of Thai people so seeing this kind of restaurant is good. Excellent restaurant. Hands down! Highly recommended

This place is so cutely decorated. It's nice and clean and the service was really nice. I tried their new menu item called Khao soi which is a spicy curry soup. It was amazing for a first try. I also got the dancing chicken appetizer which is really just like chicken katsu. My friends also enjoyed their dishes. I definitely would go back again to try their other menu items!

Finally some Thai food with flavor! And a Thai place that is open all weekend and Mondays! Only closed on Wednesdays. Hit this spot because our usual haunts the quality and taste of their food is slipping. Pad Thai tastes like nothing, basil fried rice, one piece of basil, no flavor, etc. The place is very pleasing inside, and the preset the tables with rose napkins, which is a nice touch. The servers were fast and attentive. I loved the fresh rolls! Not every place makes them, and not every place makes them well. They were fantastic here, but the peanut sauce wasn't peanutty enough for me. They gave us spring rolls as well, with plum sauce, both were standard flavors. Hubby absolutely loved his green curry and the humungous pieces of eggplant. I ordered the spicy pad thai which was eh, but I'm excited to try their pad se ew and drunken noodle. I never get pad thai, but it was hubby's bday and he wanted me to get it. Thought I'd be sad to see Sala Thai go, but Hun Baan

We started with Old Fashioneds, which were very good, although it did take a while for our drinks to arrive. Our server was friendly and attentive, but they were clearly very busy, and there was a wait by the time we were leaving. For appetizers, we ordered both the Devil Goons--seafood rangoons made with Sriracha and ghost chili peppers--and the regular rangoons. The Devil Goons were excellent; I had never had spicy rangoons before, and it was a great twist. The regular rangoons, however, were just okay in comparison. I ordered the red curry and thought it was just alright. I asked for medium spice, which was tolerable, but it lacked the rich coconut milk and curry flavors I'm used to from other places. My friends ordered fried rice, and their portions were noticeably larger than mine. For a similar price point, the portion sizes felt inconsistent. That said, they really enjoyed the fried rice. Overall, it's a cool spot to check out and clearly very popular. If I return, I'd skip the red curry. I'd also recommend making a reservation if you're planning ahead.

The vegetables in both entrées tasted almost raw. The onions were still green and crunchy in a way that didn't seem intentional. The Pineapple Fried Rice was noticeably bland, especially compared to other Thai restaurants nearby, yet the prices were $3+ higher. Service didn't help the experience either. With only one other couple in the restaurant, it was surprising that our dishes came out in stages: first the rice, then the Honey Sriracha Chicken a few minutes later, and finally the Pineapple Fried Rice. It felt disorganized for a two-person table. The rice itself was clumpy, dry, and overcooked. It mushed together when scooped. The only beacon of light in this depressing meal was the Crab Rangoon, which actually tasted good, though they were still dripping oil as if they hadn't been drained properly after frying. To their credit, the interior was nicely decorated, clean, and the bathrooms were well stocked and well maintained. The final shock came at the register: the preset tipping options were 18%, 20%, and 30%. The buttons were so large and aggressive that I honestly felt that my brain short circuited at the sight. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place unless I hated the person. There are much better Thai options in the area for both quality and price point, like Bangkok Cuisine or Som Jai Thai Cuisine.
