Located on Nuuanu St on the right side heading to kawananakoa intermediate school . They have a small shopping complex with a Laundry mat and Sam's Korean food and then Bangkok Chef they have a few stalls in front of the restaurant and a few behind the restaurant. 70 percent is take out, so if there is no parking you can wait for one it is pretty fast, because most call in their orders and pick up in about 15 mins. This is the original location that they started at and opened another location on Nimitz in the same parking lot as TANAKA's Saimin and Party Center. I tried their new location because of the limited parking at the Nuuanu location, but the taste of the food was not the same. I ordered the basil chicken which I enjoyed and normally get a side of chili pepper & fish sauce to spice it up more. It was really good and tasty. It came with a lot of shredded bamboo chicken & basil. My wife had the ginger chicken she said it was okay I liked the taste it had a hint of coconut and lots of fresh long beans. I also had the strawberry tapioca dessert and it was tasty and creamy with a nice flavor of strawberry. My wife had the coconut tapioca which I also liked even more than the strawberry, They have many different flavors to choose from. Restroom located in the restaurant, but you will need a key it is for men & women same restroom. Limited parking if you want take out called ahead, service is pretty fast.

I got the shrimp pad Thai and it was really good. Service was fast and the container it came in was reusable, which is a plus!

Food is left here! I especially love their green mango salad! Similar to green papaya salad! Love their dishes hers from their curries to stir fries! Love how they also include rice in the order too in the same container.

Nuuanu Bangkok Chef is easy to miss but is a great place to eat at (or take out). Their seating area is slightly to the side and has 8 tables and up to 24 seats. It isn't a closed door+AC style restaurant and is sort of a covered open area to the side. The only drawback to dine-in is that water cups are $0.35. The food we got is as follows: Mango Tapioca: 9/10. This was a recommended flavor (other being Okinawan Sweet Potato). It was refreshing and not too light on the taste. Pad See Ew (Pork): 10/10. This is probably my favorite dish from all Thai cuisine. The broccoli was not overcooked, the noodles were nice and soft, and the pork was nice and tender. Everything you could ever ask for! Spring Rolls: 9/10. Freshly prepared with mint, Romaine Lettuce, and the chili sauce. Great crisp and taste with 6 per order as well. Chicken Wings (Ala Carte): 8/10. I enjoy different chicken wings from different spots, and it's hard for me to ever go above 8* from Thai Style. Often, the chicken is cooked extra crispy (at the expense at slightly less juicy meat). This portion is actually surprisingly good (14 pcs!) and comes with cucumbers and chili sauce. Honestly, it's one of the better thai style chicken wings I've had, but it's hard to compete with a chicken specialty restaurant. There are several Bangkok Chef restaurants, and each has their own perks and preparations. I find that I usually enjoy this Nuuanu location more than the others.

This location is the original from the other 3 on the island. They have a good selection of popular thai dishes that are made fresh to order. Most orders here are for take out but they have a few tables if you want to dine in. The dishes all had good flavor and nice serving size. Most of the entrees come with your choice of white, brown or sticky rice which is nice since many thai restaurants charge extra for rice. Since all orders are made fresh, be prepared to wait but it is worth the time.

Their restaurant is so cool tho. Upon walking in, you sign in if needed, wait to be seated. As you walk in, there's a pretty decor, I would say photo opp, but there's a table and stuff blocking. They should clear that area, so people can take pictures with it lol but when you get seated, you walk through, and they take you to the back for outdoor seating. There is no indoor seating. They have the commercial tents, and pretty outdoor decor out there too, like lights and stuff. And there's a koi pond. Bathroom is back there. The only sucky part is if it was to rain hard or have strong winds, I wonder how they deal with that. But make sure you go when it's nice weather. It's BYOB!! They have a good amount of seating too. Our go to for Olay's is the Lao style papaya salad. We eat it with chicharon, and I think they have option to order a side chicharon, but we were prepared and went store before heading over to buy bag chicharon and they allowed it for us instead of spending the same amount for a handful, you get more when you BYOBC - bring your own bag chicharon lol I just made that up. If it's BYOB, I'm sure they'll allow it. We eat that with sticky rice. Omg so bomb. I like to get the stuffed chicken wings, we ordered the calamari. Was good. We got yellow chicken curry. The wife wanted to try the beef jerky, she likes it. We take the sticky rice and roll it in to a ball, and dip it in the bagooong papaya salad sauce and even the curry. Eat it with the papaya salad and stuffed chicken!! Omg so good! One thing I forgot to mention, they are located in the heart of Chinatown, on hotel street, so you gotta find parking. Street parking or pay for public parking. Would we come here again, definitely! 10/10 recommend. Check out Olay's for your Lao food fix!

Came in craving Thai food and it absolutely hit the spot…read more The beef pad krapow was so flavorful -- perfectly seasoned with that bold, savory-spicy kick and fragrant basil. The beef was tender, and the heat level was just right (spicy but still balanced). So good over rice. The chicken panang curry was rich, creamy, and comforting. The curry sauce had that slightly sweet, nutty depth with just the right amount of spice. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was honestly spoon-worthy. We also ordered the summer rolls, which were fresh and light -- packed with crisp veggies and herbs. Dipped in peanut sauce, they were the perfect refreshing starter before the richer dishes. And Peter was a great waiter -- friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Service definitely elevated the experience. Everything tasted fresh and well-executed. Great flavors, generous portions, and super satisfying overall. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm craving solid Thai comfort food.

This, however, will probably be my first and last visit. The place is cute enough, with a large back garden area where I chose to dine. Service was also great. I appreciate the little button at the table that I could click for service. The food, however, was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, ginger chicken, chicken satay, and pork larb. The pad Thai was the best dish, but it was very tomatoey, which I did not expect. The chicken with ginger had very little chicken. It was mostly julienned vegetables, including celery which I do not care for. The chicken satay was kinda dry and most certainly needed the peanut sauce to make it palatable. The larb was very dry with very bland flavor, served on one lettuce leaf and a wedge of cabbage. How am I supposed to eat that? All of it was quite disappointing, especially for the price point. As I was eating this meal I remembered the Thai food truck at the end of Ward, where Fisherman's Pier used to be. Now THAT was some good Thai food. I guess that was the best thing about this meal-remembering where I could get really good Thai food-so that the next time I'm having a craving, I can go back over there...I hope it's still there.

The papaya salad is incredibly fresh with that perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy. Had to order the special - appetizer which was more like a main dish size surprisingly - crispy fried rice salad. Sooo good. Crispy rice with a hint of citrus acidity mixed in at the end. Could do with more lime on top as well. crunchy texture pairs well. Also tried the evil jungle curry - with chicken - curry sauce was good with coconut milk packed in. not spicy at medium, would consider thai hot next time. very small quantity of chicken, but had other veggies in there. Would like to see more appropriate protein amount in dish. Lastly tried the pad kee mao - at first sight - the noodle seems more pale and bright then what I was expecting. However, the flavor was still there despite the color. Ordered with the shrimp - had maybe 4 pieces. Again should have more in quantity. Noodle texture was just right and bouncy and chewy.

I really do love their food and my only nit might be that the sauce for the Me Grob is a touch too sweet, nothing a spoonful of one of their chili sauces doesn't help balance out though. This meal was easily enough to feed a family of 4 (and keep in mind there was a 2nd beer ordered somewhere in the middle of all the food.) If we were planning on heading home afterwards it'd be no problem boxing up the leftovers for a late night snack or breakfast but we had a ton of plans afterwards so the food would probably go bad sitting in the car. Well, we did like all kids of mothers who drilled into us the "...there are starving kids in foreign countries" mantra and pretty much ate ALL of it, I think the only thing left was a bit of sticky rice and a tiny piece of chicken. We never told her how much we wanted to tip, so it felt pretty shady that she just added one on her own and then still gave us the option to tip again. If we hadn't been paying attention and just tapped a tip option, we would've ended up overpaying. What's weird is that we had eaten here just a couple days earlier and everything was normal. The total matched, and we tipped on our own. No one added anything extra without asking. If this had been our first time, we probably would've assumed gratuity was automatically included and not thought twice about it. When we brought that up, the waitress suddenly acted like she didn't understand us, even though she had been communicating perfectly fine before. She walked away and got another staff member, who told us tipping is optional and then in a rude tone, asked, "So what do you want to do?" We still tipped in the end because we know service jobs aren't easy, but the whole situation just felt icky. Like how could you try to scam your own customers? Definitely left a bad impression, and it looks like others have had similar experiences if you look at the 1& 2 stars reviews. Makes me wonder how many people this has happened to without knowing.
