Very nice restaurant right on Waikiki. The wait staff is plentiful and attentive. The food is pricey but excellent. We both had steak and they were perfectly prepared. The salads and sides were good also. read more

This place was very nice but the service was not good. The food is way over priced for the quality of food you get. It was my birthday and all I asked for was a desert and they threw the desert plate in front of me and walked away. It was beautiful scene but a very awful service read more

As it was out last night at the Hawaiian village our family felt like it was appropriate to splurge and go to the steak house as a nice farewell and end to our trip. Our reservation was for 7:45, we arrived at 7:40 and weren't seated until 8:10. Upon being seated at the table, we were a little disappointed in the decor. The table had four placemats, made of a woven plastic that all overlapped over one another and plastic, fake candles. A little lack luster for a fancy steak house dinner. As for the meal, we started with a shrimp cocktails. They shrimp were massive, the size of my hand, and we received 4. For the entrée we had a filet, a New York steak and wagyu beef New York steak. In addition to 3 sides. The sides were massive and our family of 3 could've easily gotten away with 2, possibly even one. The filet and the New York were both phenomenal but to our extreme disappoint the wagyu didn't meet our expectations. For an additional $25 over the price of the regular New York, we thought we'd give it a go because why not, we were already splurging. The traditional New York was leaps and bounds ahead of the wagyu in terms of taste. For the money spent, it felt more like a grocery store steak at an absurd price. That was a let down. The service was decent. It wasn't bad, wasn't great. Overall, the steaks (excluding the wagyu) were good, the sides were huge and the ambience was meh. Next time we wouldn't go out of our way for this one. read more

Okay so even though this place was expensive I give it a 5 star because the food tasted really good, the ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Try to get reservation and ask to be seated in an area where there is an ocean view. If this is your first time, I recommend The Bali Trio... Grilled Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce, Orange Miso Glazed Kona Kampachi and Grilled Lemongrass Prawns with a Spicy Mango Coulis... I liked this plate the best because it was a sampler dish of all their specialties... price was about $47 for dinner... one plate! But hey...its worth it! and for desert... we were not going to order because we were so full... but I guess we got there when they were closing so they gave us 1 Chocolate Lava Flow - Chocolate, Fresh Raspberry, Almond Dough with warm Chocolate Sauce, to share! Ohhh just fainted and went to sweet tooth heaven! By the way... for the wine list! I prefer Riesling and enjoyed the "Bay Mist" Riesling Don't forget to validate your parking ticket! read more

The steaks were good, but the fresh fish of the day was much better. It is conveniently located in our tower where we stayed for our vacation. It doesn't get very crowded and if you are able to get a table by the water, it is quite nice. If you are staying at HVV and don't want to leave the resort, this is a good option. read more

Went for dinner last night, the service was not good at all. Food was good but I was soo disappointed the next day we checked our bank account, we were charged more than the receipt showed. We left our own tip for the waitress but instead of charging us the amount we wrote she put in her own amount. NEVER coming back to this place again.. read more

Went to dinner last night for my birthday. The view of ocean is 5 stars. The food was bad. I had the 4 course meal with steak. My steak wasn't hot and the vegetables were hard. Tasted like it was sitting under a heating lamp. My wife had the huli huli chicken which was good and still hot. The service was so so. For the price you can dine at other steak places in Waikiki for better quality food and service. read more

Bali-by-the-Sea doesn't disappoint. The food is always good with a right-sized selection, and the wine list is expansive. The location offers a great view, the service is good, and the price is more than fair considering what it is and where it's located, overlooking Waikiki. Also, they know how to make creme brûlée. After a poor mango creme brûlée at Top of Waikiki, I thought mango creme brûlée might be a fool's errand. Bali's version in the Trio of Creme Brûlée is excellent. The Top of Waikiki staff should visit Bali to see how it's done. read more

I was in Honolulu for a business meeting, and we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village - which is owned by the company that I work for. During one of the nights, we had a "family" dinner at Bali By The Sea - one of the in-house restaurants at HHV. It's a beautiful restaurant, with great views of the beach in Waikiki. We came in, and they immediately sat us in an area originally set aside for another party. However they were able to move the parties around a bit (the perks of coming from corporate!), and we were sat in a semi-private space with French doors opening out to a terrace looking toward the beach. As night fell, the moonlight was shining on the sea, and the view was breath-taking. The view was just as beautiful as the service and cuisine at the restaurant. Our servers were quite attentive, and we even got a quick visit from one of the chefs. The ahi poke, which you must try when you're in Hawai'i, was delicious... and I've had poke from all ends of the spectrum: inexpensive to albeit pricey. Bali's version, while on the pricey side, was pretty tasty. For my main course, I ended up getting a 12 oz prime rib -- which you must have when you're in Hawai'i, right? Probably not, but I am NOT disappointed with my choice. The steak was beautifully served, and cooked to perfection... nicely pink in the middle. For dessert I opted for an assortment of sorbet since I had, by that time, already had my fill of SPAM musubi and other snacks during the day. But despite being satiated beyond belief, I was extremely pleased with the experience. Wonderful food, wonderful ambiance, and even more wonderful company --all together equals a very great time. read more

This place is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. I originally thought that there was no such thing as a good "hotel" restaurant, but this place definitely proved me wrong! The service was very good, exceptionally friendly staff, beautiful views, romantic atmosphere, excellent food, and just overall a very relaxing, lovely dining experience. Plus, it wasn't very crowded, so we had no problem getting a good table. Thank you Yelpers--your reviews never do me wrong! I ordered the Bali Duo: a combination of two fish with purple potatoes and mixed veggies. It was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. They also give you a mixed bread basket with yummy sesame flat bread--a nice touch while you are waiting for the main course. My advice: if you are pretty full after the main course, don't order a dessert because they give you a complimentary chocolate-truffle-like treat that is just stunning (I won't give away the details because I don't want to spoil the surprise). Needless to say, I would definitely come here again, and I recommend you give it a try! Be forewarned, it is a bit on the pricey side, so take a look at the menu before you go! read more

We found Bali-By-The-Sea on yelp and decided to give it a try. It is VERY hard to find in the Hilton Hawaiian Shopping Center, but when we finally found it (and were 20 minutes late for our 8:15 reservation), the hostess was lovely and very kind, leading us to a table that overlooked the ocean. Had it been a little lighter, it would have been an amazing view! We did have to sit right but the server's station which made it a little loud between the clinking of wine glasses and server talk, but our servers Mike and Andreas made the evening great. We started with the Eggplant Ravioli which was 5 star, freaking amazing, delicious, rich, just the right amount of sauce left over to dip my wonderful walnut bread in...AH! So good. Speaking of the bread, there were 3 varieties which was unexpected and a nice touch. My favorite was the darker walnut bread, accompanied by the french baguette and flatbread. Yum yum! I ordered the Grilled Mahi-Mahi which was served over rice and asian style veggies in a teriyaki glaze sauce. VERY good. Tay had the Bali Trio which consisted of Grilled Filet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce, Orange Miso Glazed Kona Kampachi, and Grilled Lemongrass Prawns with a Spicy Mango Coulis, accompanied by a Ginger Scented Turmeric Jasmine Rice and Baby Island Vegetables. AWESOME. Overall, it was a great experience, but not better than Sarento's ;) read more

Hmmmm, a little torn. Overall, a wonderful night...but something just didn't seem to reflect the price. Something about the ambiance is off. Not the food, it was great. And not the service, which was some of the best I have ever had. Maybe the dining room itself. Something felt "old", "off". Anyway, that is the only reason for the downgrade. So, four of us, ready to get our beef on. I had the filet, she had the prime rib, and the other couple was a mirror of our order. We chose three sides to share: asparagus, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. All very good, including my steak. But. But it wasn't quite "hot". My wife, never shy, brought this to our waitresses attention. There was no claiming the food was "cold" or even "lukewarm", just "not quite hot". And what followed was amazing... Before you could say boo...our food was whisked away. Not just hers, but all of ours. Mine was actually very good, but away it went with the promise, "we will make this right, we are sooo sorry". 10 minutes later, we have brand new food, perfectly prepared, and piping hot. While I thought my filet and sides were very good before, they were now awesome! Ditto everyone else at the table. There was no arguing. No challenging. No rewarming. The kitchen literally started from scratch, and considering the time involved to bring us 4 brand new dinners, it was obvious we were the sole focus of the kitchen during that time. Amazing. One disappointment, the diamond head lava cake has been permanently 86'd. So I mentioned a downgrade? Yes, but I'm taking it back. The ambiance is still a touch off, but the service more than makes up for it. And the food carries itself. read more

The food was good, Brussels sprouts were our favorite. Our waiter was wonderful too! The ambiance although the view (from most tables) was pretty the set up reminded us of a hotel meeting room that they set tables up in. The menu is wayyyy overpriced. We had 1 appetizer, 2 entree's, 1 side dish & 1 drink for 2 & our bill before tip was $235 in our opinion it was NOT worth it. We could have ate dinner elsewhere considering we left hungry. Think twice before making a reservation here. read more

Bali is amazingly placed on the 2nd floor giving you large panoramic views to the ocean and the sunsets, making this place a wonderful setting for a romantic evening with your loved one. My wife is allergic to shellfish so we were not able to partake in the seafood, which I understand is very wonderful. We spent our evening enjoying the steakhouse side of their menu. The menu was not overwhelmingly extensive but there was still plenty of enticing entrees, so it was quite easy to pick what we wanted and the food that was served was prepared with a great deal of excellence. and the service definitely made you feel special. We were very happy with the evening. read more

Made reservations for a Friday night with 3 other friends right before sunset. Every seat had an ocean view. Our servers were attentive, helped us in deciding what to eat. The sides are large enough to share. Example, the salad side was enough for all 4 of us. It's pricey, I get it, the location, it's a resort and the view the relaxing atmosphere. Great for special occasions, not your everyday go to. I selected the Roasted Kona Kampachi Fillet. It was deliciously prepared, tender. My waiter brought me another sauce just in case I didn't like the cilantro pesto sauce. Both were great. For dessert we shared 3 scoops of ice cream-different flavors with the bread pudding...perfect size. read more

We were staying at the Hilton over Valentine's Day so made a reservation for Valentine's Day couples' dinner here. We could only get a reservation very early or very late, which wasn't surprising given that Valentine's Day is a big date night and that everything's crowded at this resort, but we were a little surprised when we showed up for our late reservation (9 pm) and found only two other tables eating and a completely empty restaurant otherwise. Maybe only one member of the wait staff was staying late so that limited the number of tables, but I was expecting it to be much busier. There was a special Valentine's menu for the fixed price of $95/ person, but it had quite a few choices - I believe there were like six appetizers to choose from, and four different entrees, as well as several desserts. I remember having an amuse-bouche with some sort of caviar, an oysters Rockefeller hot appetizer, a filet mignon with chocolate sauce, and gourmet strawberry shortcake, all with a Blue Hawaii cocktail and some very good bread and GREAT coffee. And a box of chocolate macadamia nut cookies with coconut to take home. Our table was not where I would have normally picked it - it was on a balcony overlooking the main part of the restaurant and pretty close to the entrance and the adjoining bar. Ordinarily I would have been bummed not to get a table downstairs, in the window facing the beach, as the restaurant features in its ads. That section of the restaurant was closed off. However, at 9 pm it was dark, windy and kind of cold outside, so I probably wouldn't have been comfortable eating down there anyway. The waiter was a pro and took good care of us and his other two or three tables. It was a nice experience and, given that it was a special day, well worth the price. Only minus was having to walk past some construction going on in the tower where restaurant is located in order to get into the place - but I assume this is a temporary condition. read more

The service was great, the view was great (we were there in time for sunset). The menu had a lot of different options on it. That's the good stuff. The bad stuff is that it's very overpriced, presumably because it's part of the hotel. We got the Tomahawk steak for 2, and for $158 (for both), it better be one of the most amazing steaks I've ever eaten. It was seasoned very well, and tasted good, but definitely wasn't the best, nor close to it. We ordered it medium, it was definitely more on the medium rare side in places, but I've had better steak at Bonefish Grill, for a lot less. If you want someplace with decent food that has a great view (it's also an open-air restaurant making it nice), and you don't care about price, then go here. It's definitely very overpriced for the quality of food. read more

We should have read the reviews before doing our Valentine's Day dinner here. Service very friendly and very helpful! Setting nice a little dark but relaxing. $60 steak came out cold for both of us literally cold. First time in 6 years living in Hawaii that I didn't finish my steak. Forgot to bring my soup. Brought the salad at the same time as the steak. Very friendly horrible food just like all the other reviews. They did comp one of our steaks. It's to bad that a great setting on the ocean with great service is consistently ruined by sub par food. Manager came to apologize so bumped from 2 stars to 3. Hope the food improves so others can enjoy... We will never return. read more

5 stars for the food & the views from the table but minus 2 for the service. As other stated it is pretty sweet being able to watch the waves crashing while you eat. We had a 7:15pm reservation & requested a table closest to the ocean. They were going to sit us at a table much further from the main windows than I would have liked, but luckily the hostess last minute said they did have something closer. Our server "Ranulfo" was just awful though. He checked on us maybe 1 time, while we watched him go to other tables MANY times. It was not that busy during the hour and 15 minutes we were there. He did not make any small talk with us, did not make us feel welcome, & never even smiled. I'm not saying I need a server to act like my best friend but we seen other servers who seemed much more friendly than ours was. Not sure if it's because of our age (mid 20s) or what, we just felt overall that we did not receive the same service as other tables. Ranulfo was working with another server, who's name we did not get. He pretty much took over or table after we got our food. Although he did not check on us until we were done eating, so he could clear the table, but at least he offered a desert menu, and it was him who brought us the bill. Meanwhile Ranulfo was walking around checking on other tables. At least let us know your handing us off to someone else! We only hope that our tip went straight to the second server who was much more friendly. read more

Great Meal in Rainbow Tower after a long travel day. I had the bone in ribeye which was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Also the mashed potatoes and the kolbe burger with fries were fantastic. I don't know if the ceasar salad was anything special but everything was what I would expect from a fine restaurant. Great view of the beach and comfortable open air meal. I look forward to going back my next stay at the Hilton Hawaiian village. Meal for 2 was about 135 with tip. Nonalcoholic drinks. read more

I think all the descriptions here regarding the ambiance and locale are spot on so I'll spare readers any additional details; really, the reviewers all describe it very well. The ambiance seems like it is a very high class place, but being part of a hotel there were several casually dressed persons. There is a lobby/waiting area where they have a small music ensemble that plays on select nights. There is also a bar there with some couches and nice arm chairs to relax in... looked like a very cool chic place to chill out. My review is more for entertainment value I guess... Went to Tropix for dinner and fireworks tonight but outside seating was closed so we ended up here... we were told the view of the Friday Night fireworks was just as comparable and the place seemed really elegant. For me, this was probably the most expensive and chique place I have ever eaten at lol... we were totally highfalutin that night for sure- Robin Leech was probably sitting behind us... unfortunately fireworks ended up being cancelled due to high winds. Honestly we were a bit sticker shocked when we opened the open and saw the prices... an 8 oz steak cost 52$ The cheapest thing on the menu for the main course, chicken, was 34$ and sides were a la carte... at 12-14$ each. The Salads ran 14-18$. And our Prosecco's were 9$ each glass. The bread basket was very cool; full of different kinds of bread and yummy. The Prosecco as one reader pointed out was amazing! Because of the sticker shock, and because neither of us eat a lot, we decided to split everything so we got a caesar salad which was basically a half a head of romaine lettuce split down the middle. Then we got the chicken which was two huge pieces with red curry sauce (A-MAAA-ZING!), and then a side of coconut jasmine rice. The amount of food was perfect for the two of us to split and we had lovely time. The wait staff was fabulous! We had two different people taking care of us and they were refreshingly mature, professional, and truly made you feel special and welcome. They put the napkins in your lap and had a very light touch when setting food down and taking things away... very enjoyable experience. read more

Two stars were mainly earned by good service, food presentation and the quality of beverages ... all were great. The server was attentive and friendly to both kids and adults and all were happy with the wine selections. The food was just OK however. 50% of steaks were overcooked , 100% was bland and had no crust. The sauces did give it some flavor, but that kills the whole point of having high grade beef. The fish was on a dry side, but I am not sure if it was the type of fish or if it was overcooked. Overall food was disappointing, I would not be back. read more

The experience was totally spoiled by the terrible service given by the waitress (though her assistants were very pleasant and helpful). If two people are spending $200 on a meal and drinks, you would think they would be provided something close to adequate service. Not so in the case of Bali's. I mentioned how extremely disappointed I was upon leaving, to which the hostess could only reply, "I am sorry". A lot has changed from the first time we went there about two years ago until now. It seemed that the quality of service and food had gone downhill. First off, we went during Restaurant Week Hawaii. We understand that sometimes the restaurant may lose some money with these deals which is why a lot of the restaurants involved don't advertise that they partake in RWH. Which is why we have no problem ordering off of the regular menu, as well. We arrived for our 6:30 reservation (made off Open Table) and had to wait about 15 minutes. We were seated and given the regular menus. Someone came to pour our water and to explain that he would be assisting our server. We asked for the Restaurant Week menus and he said he would be right back with them. Our server came with the menus and just dropped them off, even though we knew what we wanted to drink. It wasn't until another 10-15 minutes and me sitting with my arms crossed and glaring at both of our servers walking past us that the man who poured our water came to take our order. I can tell that he wasn't supposed to have took our order because when I ordered the 4-course option off the RW menu, he had to stand next to me and ask me which starter and salad I wanted (it was already set). Anyway, the 4 course was the lobster bisque, the baratta salad, I chose the filet mignon and lobster tail option, and dessert was apple banana malasada. My fiancé ordered off the regular menu. He ordered the scallops to start, the mixed salad, the Del Monaco steak, the truffle tots, and ice cream to accompany our malasada. We thought the scallops would be warm so maybe that was on us for not reading it properly. The caviar on top gave it a very oceany taste and it seemed to be served the cafeteria greens as garnish (cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots cut up very fine). The fiancé didn't care for the sauce on the bottom (or any of the dish, really) but I thought it had promise. The lobster bisque was very good but the lobster chunks were tough. The barrata salad that I got may have been the best salad that I've ever had! It was a very fancy but local play on the caprese! So good! The mixed salad had more beets and carrot slivers than lettuce (there were 3 pieces of lettuce). Everyone kept expressing to us about the fireworks and that our food could be put on hold if we wanted to watch it. We made it clear that we wanted to stay at the table several times so to proceed with our food as normal. Ugh, we totally should have watched the fireworks because there was a good amount of time between our salad and our entrée. We were waiting about five minutes prior to the fireworks and didn't get our entrees until about 5 minutes after it finished... so 15 minutes of waiting. When the food came out, it seemed like the Del Monaco had been waiting for my filet to cook because it was dry! It was ordered at a medium but came out almost a medium well to well done... but even so, I have NEVER seen a cut of steak like that be chewy and dry. My filet was nothing special but the lobster was very tender and not overcooked like the claws that were in the bisque. Surprisingly, the tots were my favorite part of the dinner! Not because they're tater tots (I was making fun of my fiancé for being a child since he ordered it BUT it did come with prosciutto and drizzled with truffle oil), but because they were crispy and had really good flavor to it. It was a pretty generous amount, too. Which is why I told both of our "servers" to leave it on the table after clearing our plates. Not even kidding, while I had two cheekfuls of the tots, the gentleman server came by and swept up the tots before I could even say anything. It made me very sad because I was still picking at them. :( The malasadas were good but very dense and filled with apple bananas. The extra scoop of ice cream really helped wash down the sugar they were coated with. All in all, the food was decent and the service could definitely have been better. I thought that the price for Restaurant Hawaii's 4-course meal was worth it... but if the point of Restaurant Week is to get locals to try out new places so that they can return... I would say that the service and food items that were NOT on the RW menu but on the regular menu ruined the experience for us. I don't think we'll be returning unless we're invited to go or if they are part of RWH with a deal that is waaaaaaay too good to pass up. read more

Overpriced and disappointing. For a place with "steak and seafood" in their name, both their steak and seafood sections of the menu were limited and unimpressive. The fish special for the night was Opah. The fish was decent but terribly under seasoned. When I'm paying around $50 for fish, I expect to not have to add anything to it. My mother ordered a 10oz Filet, medium. It came out medium rare which is fine, in fact it should've been better that way but, it was as dry as can be and, once again, it was incredibly under seasoned. I'm beginning to think no one in Hawaii has heard of adding salt or pepper to food before it's cooked. Her steak was more than $60 and to be honest, I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it. I'm not even sure if it was truly a USDA Prime cut despite the price. Even the table next to us complained of the same things. Long story short, this place is not worth the money. read more

Good food but I expected better, others with us said they really enjoyed their meals so perhaps I'm more critical. We were a table of 10 and a few of us ordered the same fish special but several of them came out differently. Some with sauce, some without, some on the side. Service was friendly and they checked on us often but I wouldn't rush back here especially with the plentiful dining options in this town. read more
