Bali has a nice location on the second floor overlooking the beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Resort. This location is a great place to dine to watch the sunset. That is about all that I can say good about the place. The menu is nice, but is lacking a few things to make it the place it wants to be. I almost went there a couple of years ago with a co-worker, but we decide not to because it was in our minds too "fancy" for a normal dinner. We thought it was a special occasion restaurant. I decided to go this time, since I received gift certificate from Hilton. I started off with an appetizer that sounded great on the menu. It was a little pricey for the amount provided. It looked nice, but the flavors didn't flow. I then ordered a steak and the waiter was pushing sauces to top it. I have been to a few steak places in my time and none of them ask would you like a sauce to top that steak. I was getting a little scared, since most good steak places are offended when you ask for A-1. The wine list had some good wines, but the prices were way too high. I know most restaurants use a 2 - 3 multiplier for most wine below $50, but they used a 4x throughout the list. They have a professional wait staff that was very attentive, but could use a little training on letting the guest go first. This place has a lot of potential and I really hope it gets there, because it has a great location and could be the place for many special events. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had a great table with a view and the service was exceptional and friendly. We had a number of different waiters who were fantastic and made it a really fun evening. The wine list had a good selection and we had a nice Rutherford Merlot. The beet salad was amazing. Service was top notch. The servers were extraordinarily friendly and attentive. We ordered the Ahi Tuna and Filet Mignon entrees, with the truffle fries, asparagus, and mushrooms for sides. The food was excellent. The filet was properly rare and the ahi tuna was seared perfectly. If you get the filet, make sure you get the bearnaise to accompany as it is probably the best I've had. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert but I'm sure it would've been just as good. If you want to get a table with a sunset view, you need to make sure to make a reservation. I had a dinner here that allowed me to view the beautiful sunset during my meal. The food here is influenced by Asian cuisine, although the ingredients are local. For starters, we had a mushroom dish which was really delicious, but not something that's meant to be shared (I'm used to sharing appetizers). All the items are a la carte so be prepared to pay $40 for just a protein with nothing on or with it. On my recent stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village I ate at Bali with several colleagues who were attending the same conference. Like many things with the HHV, I am somewhat ambiguous on this restaurant. I think it is better than average (3 rating), but not very good (4 rating). There is nothing wrong with the quality of the food, but at the prices they charge, it should be better. The menu feels very dated, more of a 1990's menu than 2011 place. That being said, the seafood towers we shared were really good and my steak, the rip chop was excellent and cooked perfectly at medium rare and I loved the bread pudding dessert. The service was very good, we had a team serve us and they were very op top of the service all night long. The setting is also great and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. If I was staying at the hotel and wanted a nice, high end meal, this is a pretty good place and probably not that bad cost wise if you order judiciously. I am sure the fact that we were 8 guys on expense accounts added to the outrageous total, but it was pretty expensive given that for the same or less we could have gone to Alan Wong's, La Mer or Orchids. read more

The late hour may account for the quiet atmosphere, there was almost total silence in the restaurant. There's a dress code and the furnishings are classy, right down to the real silver. Our waiter was attentive, and the lady who refilled our water was extremely friendly. She even walked us to the elevator when we were done and opened it for us. Maybe the view is good during daylight hours. When we were there it was pitch black outside and the ocean could have been miles away. If you're kama'aina, be sure to let them know. They took 15% off our bill. It was my birthday so they gave me a very nice dessert, on the house. Bread and butter are complimentary - and a good thing, too. We needed to eat a lot of bread to fill ourselves. The prices were very high, which might have been okay if the portions were reasonable. My salad and my husband's fish would've fit it the palm of our hand. Everything is ala carte, and we ordered 3 sides just so we wouldn't go away hungry. They say the sides are served "family style" but the portions are still pretty miniscule. Excellent meal here overall. The restaurant is open to the beach so you get the nice ocean breeze flowing through. All tables have a view of the ocean, although to get one of the Oceanside tables with the best view you need to make a reservation a few days in advance. I had the 12oz Filet with Maui Onion sauce. I ordered medium, but it came out medium well, and almost well done. Not a huge issue as they quickly brought out a new one that was perfectly cooked. Excellent steak, very high quality meat and very render as a filet should be. My wife got the seafood special with a red curry sauce and loved it. Entrees are served ala carte and sides need to be ordered separately. We had asparagus and sweet potato fries. Both were excellent, and some of the best I have had. Dessert we had strawberry shortcake which was pretty good. Everything fresh. Service was excellent and the waitress was very knowledgable and accommodating. They have us dessert complimentary due to the mess up on the steak. One pet peeve I have is places that do not give refills on soft drinks (as I do not drink much alcohol). I ordered a Coke, which came in a small glass with a Plumeria and pineapple slice. Unfortunately they do not give free refills. Since they comped us the dessert though, I can let that part go. For the price food should be much better. It's your basic higher end joint much like a Ruth Chris. However this is on the beach in Waikiki, so why am I wasting my time ? Restaurant tries too hard to add their flare to the dishes, i.e.. Coconut in the potatoes au gratin. Presentation was just weird (tomatoes and grilled serrano pepper with my New York Strip ?!?!?! and their Onion demi glaze tasted just like French onion soup - good but not $100 a plate special. This past Mother's Day, my sister-in-laws, my mother-in-law, and I dined at this restaurant. We were seated ocean-side so the view was spectacular. We watched the sunset as we ate, and the lights on the pier nearby looked as if they were coaxing newly weds to walk in their cadence. The service was wonderful. They treated us like VIPs. Bali Steak and Seafood is one of the best restaurants that I have ever dined in. The staff is friendly, quick and happy to answer any questions that you might have. The views of the ocean are amazing and the fresh air is very refreshing. The food is delicious, beautifully presented and appropriately priced for the fine dining experience. The restaurant does get busy during the usual peak hours (6:00pm-7:30pm) so I would suggest either making reservations several days prior or plan on dining in the early/late evening. NOTE: You CANNOT see the Friday night fireworks from the restaurant. So if you are planning on dining there on Friday in order to see the fireworks, you will be disappointed. I would suggest either dining early and then watching the fireworks on the beach, or vice versa. Bali Steak and Seafood is highly popular and for a good reason. The dining experience is something to remember and definitely a place that I will recommend to anyone staying in Waikiki. Also, the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays and does NOT open until 5:00pm. You can make reservations through the concierge, but don't expect to get into contact with the restaurant directly until they open. read more

Honestly this was the worst meal that I have ever had to pay $139 for. My mom and I decided to split the seafood platter only to find out when it was brought out that is was all cold and mostly raw. The waiter had walked past our table three times for even acknowledging us. They did not seem concerned that we didn't even eat a quarter of the food. The only saving grace for this experience was the hostess, Katie, who helped us with an edamame order in the lobby after dinner. I would not go back, poor service from the wait staff and customers are not notified what they are getting when they order the seafood; the menu did not say anything about the food being cold. read more

While on vacation on a Friday night, my mom and me were wandering around at dinnertime searching for something that looked good and was reasonably priced. We ended up at this higher end restaurant and actually had one of the best meals of our week. Even though the menu is a bit pricier than what we were willing to spend, the location (beach adjacent), ambiance, and super friendly service lured us in. Here is my breakdown. Good 1. Excellent wait staff. Even though we showed up on a fully booked Friday night without a reservation, they happily managed to set us up with a nice table facing the ocean without a wait. 2. Our server was so nice and very helpful in pointing out items she felt we would like on the menu. 3. The food was top notch. My Huli chicken was tender and so flavorful. 4. Restaurant was quiet even when full. I hate loud restaurants. Even though there were many people eating, you could still carry on a conversation without having to shout. 5. Even though this was a "fancier" restaurant, it was still casual enough to enjoy in your sundress and sandals. Jacket and Tie not required. Bad 1. Expensive. While there are more moderately priced menu items, be prepared to spend at least $30 on your meal. 2. Make a reservation. Even though we got lucky and were seated without one, this place is usually booked and unless you make a reservation way ahead of time, you will not get a table. 3. Since this restaurant is located smack dab in the middle of the busy Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, you will have to make it through the gauntlet of sunbathers, trophy wives in Manolos, tour groups, and spoiled brats running around the pool before making it to the entrance of this restaurant. Be prepared to run serpentine through these crowds. 4. Very small portions. If you are hungry, you will need to order an appetizer, entrée, sides, and dessert because the portions are super tiny at this restaurant. My $26 chicken entrée consisted of a small leg and thigh and that is it! Other than the obvious, expensive, hard to get in.... I liked this restaurant. The food was tasty and the service was exceptional. If you wish to have a beachside dinner and are willing to spend some extra money, give this restaurant a try. Okay so even though this place was expensive I give it a 5 star because the food tasted really good, the ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Try to get reservation and ask to be seated in an area where there is an ocean view. If this is your first time, I recommend The Bali Trio... Grilled Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce, Orange Miso Glazed Kona Kampachi and Grilled Lemongrass Prawns with a Spicy Mango Coulis... I liked this plate the best because it was a sampler dish of all their specialties... price was about $47 for dinner... one plate! But hey...its worth it! and for desert... we were not going to order because we were so full... but I guess we got there when they were closing so they gave us 1 Chocolate Lava Flow - Chocolate, Fresh Raspberry, Almond Dough with warm Chocolate Sauce, to share! Bali-by-the-Sea doesn't disappoint. The food is always good with a right-sized selection, and the wine list is expansive. The location offers a great view, the service is good, and the price is more than fair considering what it is and where it's located, overlooking Waikiki. Also, they know how to make creme brûlée. After a poor mango creme brûlée at Top of Waikiki, I thought mango creme brûlée might be a fool's errand. Bali's version in the Trio of Creme Brûlée is excellent. The Top of Waikiki staff should visit Bali to see how it's done. read more

I was in Honolulu for a business meeting, and we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village - which is owned by the company that I work for. During one of the nights, we had a "family" dinner at Bali By The Sea - one of the in-house restaurants at HHV. It's a beautiful restaurant, with great views of the beach in Waikiki. We came in, and they immediately sat us in an area originally set aside for another party. However they were able to move the parties around a bit (the perks of coming from corporate!), and we were sat in a semi-private space with French doors opening out to a terrace looking toward the beach. As night fell, the moonlight was shining on the sea, and the view was breath-taking. The view was just as beautiful as the service and cuisine at the restaurant. Our servers were quite attentive, and we even got a quick visit from one of the chefs. The ahi poke, which you must try when you're in Hawai'i, was delicious... and I've had poke from all ends of the spectrum: inexpensive to albeit pricey. Bali's version, while on the pricey side, was pretty tasty. For my main course, I ended up getting a 12 oz prime rib -- which you must have when you're in Hawai'i, right? Probably not, but I am NOT disappointed with my choice. The steak was beautifully served, and cooked to perfection... nicely pink in the middle. For dessert I opted for an assortment of sorbet since I had, by that time, already had my fill of SPAM musubi and other snacks during the day. But despite being satiated beyond belief, I was extremely pleased with the experience. This place is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. I originally thought that there was no such thing as a good "hotel" restaurant, but this place definitely proved me wrong! The service was very good, exceptionally friendly staff, beautiful views, romantic atmosphere, excellent food, and just overall a very relaxing, lovely dining experience. They also give you a mixed bread basket with yummy sesame flat bread--a nice touch while you are waiting for the main course. My advice: if you are pretty full after the main course, don't order a dessert because they give you a complimentary chocolate-truffle-like treat that is just stunning (I won't give away the details because I don't want to spoil the surprise). It is VERY hard to find in the Hilton Hawaiian Shopping Center, but when we finally found it (and were 20 minutes late for our 8:15 reservation), the hostess was lovely and very kind, leading us to a table that overlooked the ocean. Had it been a little lighter, it would have been an amazing view! We did have to sit right but the server's station which made it a little loud between the clinking of wine glasses and server talk, but our servers Mike and Andreas made the evening great. We started with the Eggplant Ravioli which was 5 star, freaking amazing, delicious, rich, just the right amount of sauce left over to dip my wonderful walnut bread in...AH! So good. Speaking of the bread, there were 3 varieties which was unexpected and a nice touch. My favorite was the darker walnut bread, accompanied by the french baguette and flatbread. Yum yum! I ordered the Grilled Mahi-Mahi which was served over rice and asian style veggies in a teriyaki glaze sauce. VERY good. Tay had the Bali Trio which consisted of Grilled Filet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce, Orange Miso Glazed Kona Kampachi, and Grilled Lemongrass Prawns with a Spicy Mango Coulis, accompanied by a Ginger Scented Turmeric Jasmine Rice and Baby Island Vegetables. Hmmmm, a little torn. Overall, a wonderful night...but something just didn't seem to reflect the price. Something about the ambiance is off. Not the food, it was great. And not the service, which was some of the best I have ever had. Maybe the dining room itself. Something felt "old", "off". Anyway, that is the only reason for the downgrade. So, four of us, ready to get our beef on. I had the filet, she had the prime rib, and the other couple was a mirror of our order. We chose three sides to share: asparagus, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. All very good, including my steak. But. But it wasn't quite "hot". My wife, never shy, brought this to our waitresses attention. There was no claiming the food was "cold" or even "lukewarm", just "not quite hot". And what followed was amazing... Before you could say boo...our food was whisked away. Not just hers, but all of ours. Mine was actually very good, but away it went with the promise, "we will make this right, we are sooo sorry". 10 minutes later, we have brand new food, perfectly prepared, and piping hot. While I thought my filet and sides were very good before, they were now awesome! Ditto everyone else at the table. There was no arguing. No challenging. No rewarming. The kitchen literally started from scratch, and considering the time involved to bring us 4 brand new dinners, it was obvious we were the sole focus of the kitchen during that time. Amazing. One disappointment, the diamond head lava cake has been permanently 86'd. So I mentioned a downgrade? Yes, but I'm taking it back. The ambiance although the view (from most tables) was pretty the set up reminded us of a hotel meeting room that they set tables up in. The menu is wayyyy overpriced. We had 1 appetizer, 2 entree's, 1 side dish & 1 drink for 2 & our bill before tip was $235 in our opinion it was NOT worth it. We could have ate dinner elsewhere considering we left hungry. The service was great, the view was great (we were there in time for sunset). The menu had a lot of different options on it. That's the good stuff. The bad stuff is that it's very overpriced, presumably because it's part of the hotel. We got the Tomahawk steak for 2, and for $158 (for both), it better be one of the most amazing steaks I've ever eaten. It was seasoned very well, and tasted good, but definitely wasn't the best, nor close to it. We ordered it medium, it was definitely more on the medium rare side in places, but I've had better steak at Bonefish Grill, for a lot less. If you want someplace with decent food that has a great view (it's also an open-air restaurant making it nice), and you don't care about price, then go here. Bali is amazingly placed on the 2nd floor giving you large panoramic views to the ocean and the sunsets, making this place a wonderful setting for a romantic evening with your loved one. My wife is allergic to shellfish so we were not able to partake in the seafood, which I understand is very wonderful. We spent our evening enjoying the steakhouse side of their menu. The menu was not overwhelmingly extensive but there was still plenty of enticing entrees, so it was quite easy to pick what we wanted and the food that was served was prepared with a great deal of excellence. and the service definitely made you feel special. Made reservations for a Friday night with 3 other friends right before sunset. Every seat had an ocean view. Our servers were attentive, helped us in deciding what to eat. The sides are large enough to share. Example, the salad side was enough for all 4 of us. It's pricey, I get it, the location, it's a resort and the view the relaxing atmosphere. Great for special occasions, not your everyday go to. I selected the Roasted Kona Kampachi Fillet. It was deliciously prepared, tender. My waiter brought me another sauce just in case I didn't like the cilantro pesto sauce. Both were great. We were staying at the Hilton over Valentine's Day so made a reservation for Valentine's Day couples' dinner here. We could only get a reservation very early or very late, which wasn't surprising given that Valentine's Day is a big date night and that everything's crowded at this resort, but we were a little surprised when we showed up for our late reservation (9 pm) and found only two other tables eating and a completely empty restaurant otherwise. Maybe only one member of the wait staff was staying late so that limited the number of tables, but I was expecting it to be much busier. There was a special Valentine's menu for the fixed price of $95/ person, but it had quite a few choices - I believe there were like six appetizers to choose from, and four different entrees, as well as several desserts. I remember having an amuse-bouche with some sort of caviar, an oysters Rockefeller hot appetizer, a filet mignon with chocolate sauce, and gourmet strawberry shortcake, all with a Blue Hawaii cocktail and some very good bread and GREAT coffee. And a box of chocolate macadamia nut cookies with coconut to take home. Our table was not where I would have normally picked it - it was on a balcony overlooking the main part of the restaurant and pretty close to the entrance and the adjoining bar. Ordinarily I would have been bummed not to get a table downstairs, in the window facing the beach, as the restaurant features in its ads. That section of the restaurant was closed off. However, at 9 pm it was dark, windy and kind of cold outside, so I probably wouldn't have been comfortable eating down there anyway. The waiter was a pro and took good care of us and his other two or three tables. It was a nice experience and, given that it was a special day, well worth the price. Only minus was having to walk past some construction going on in the tower where restaurant is located in order to get into the place - but I assume this is a temporary condition. read more

Setting nice a little dark but relaxing. $60 steak came out cold for both of us literally cold. First time in 6 years living in Hawaii that I didn't finish my steak. Forgot to bring my soup. Brought the salad at the same time as the steak. Very friendly horrible food just like all the other reviews. They did comp one of our steaks. It's to bad that a great setting on the ocean with great service is consistently ruined by sub par food. Manager came to apologize so bumped from 2 stars to 3. Hope the food improves so others can enjoy... We will never return. read more

5 stars for the food & the views from the table but minus 2 for the service. As other stated it is pretty sweet being able to watch the waves crashing while you eat. We had a 7:15pm reservation & requested a table closest to the ocean. They were going to sit us at a table much further from the main windows than I would have liked, but luckily the hostess last minute said they did have something closer. Our server "Ranulfo" was just awful though. He checked on us maybe 1 time, while we watched him go to other tables MANY times. It was not that busy during the hour and 15 minutes we were there. He did not make any small talk with us, did not make us feel welcome, & never even smiled. I'm not saying I need a server to act like my best friend but we seen other servers who seemed much more friendly than ours was. Not sure if it's because of our age (mid 20s) or what, we just felt overall that we did not receive the same service as other tables. Ranulfo was working with another server, who's name we did not get. He pretty much took over or table after we got our food. Although he did not check on us until we were done eating, so he could clear the table, but at least he offered a desert menu, and it was him who brought us the bill. Meanwhile Ranulfo was walking around checking on other tables. At least let us know your handing us off to someone else! Great Meal in Rainbow Tower after a long travel day. I had the bone in ribeye which was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Also the mashed potatoes and the kolbe burger with fries were fantastic. I don't know if the ceasar salad was anything special but everything was what I would expect from a fine restaurant. Great view of the beach and comfortable open air meal. I look forward to going back my next stay at the Hilton Hawaiian village. Meal for 2 was about 135 with tip. Nonalcoholic drinks. read more
