I had a gift certificate here so we decided to cash it in for my birthday. I made a reservation at 6:30 pm and was seated right on time. The view was amazing and the ambiance was classy, yet casual. Although, my boyfriend and I seemed to be the only people under 40 years old, including the servers LOL. The menu is A La Carte which was a bummer, and the food quality was OK. I don't think our bill was worth the price. The only complaint I had was the service. Our server was Bonnie, she was attentive and helpful at first, but towards the middle to end of our meal she was very absent. I saw her attending every other table but ours. I tried to be understanding because I'm a server myself, but about 30 mins went by and she is still attending other tables. We even had a server from a different section help us box our things up and refill our drinks. But Bonnie tried to make up for it by offering a complimentary dessert for my birthday. I couldn't bring myself to tip her the service she gave (which was under 15%). Definitely recommend to people who don't mind spending 2 hours here. read more

We were celebrating a birthday with some mainland friends, one of whom had never been to Hawaii, and staying at the comfortable Grand Waikikian in the Hilton Hawaiian Village. On Friday nights at 7:45pm the Hilton generously treats its guests (and everyone from locals to tourists) to a very nice fireworks display. It wasn't rocket science to create the recipe for a wonderful evening starting with dinner at Bali Steak & Seafood. All the staff was attentive, efficient, helpful and kind (Kama'aina given:) They gave us a great table overlooking the ocean. The food was very good with standout dishes being the roast duck on faro and perfectly prepared sea scallops. The wine flights were enjoyed by our guests who thought the selections were average. The portions were very generous. A tasty complimentary mousse was another nice touch. As mentioned the staff went overboard to make sure we had a nice evening. We timed it so we could be there for the fireworks. At Bali, they have their own lanai, and we all had a front row seat for the terrific show. This combo made for a memorable evening. read more

My boyfriend and another couple were staying at the Grand Hawaiian for an early birthday getaway and were blown away by the food and service. We made our reservations a day in advance, showed up and were seated promptly. We split a lovely bottle of wine and the chilled seafood platter to start. Both were delicious. Boys got the bone in ribeye, I the seafood medley, and can't remember our other dates. All dishes were superb, perfectly cooked and staff was wonderful. Sides- mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and lobster ravioli were all also wonderful. We will be back on our next annual trip. read more

To say this place was appalling might be an understatement. I tried to make a reservation for the place and they said there is none available, but we're welcome to sit at the bar. Okay, cool, so we arrived around 6:15 and they tell us that you can eat in the lounge. I never even stepped foot in the restaurant. My family and I ate outside in a round table sitting on office chairs. The service was non existent, the food was below mediocre and the price is disgusting. The salads are really bland and cost about $20 each. They come with full anchovies, that's right, fishes on a salad. You would think they incorporate it in the dressing or cut it up in pieces for you, but nope! The lobster bisque was more like a gravy than anything else. It comes in a gravy cup and they pour it out for you before they set it on your table. The giant shrimps are way too fishy tasting. They aren't just giant; they are HUGE!! The biggest dissapointment of all was probably the alaskan crab. I was confused for why it was only $24 on the appetizer menu, but when I was presented with the plate I figured why it was cheaper then the shrimp. It was unquestionably 2 pieces pinky finger length of crab meat. I felt really disrespected by the portion. And it looked like a one side of a snow crab claw. The best thing(and I've also read this on many past comments for This establishment) was probably the tater totts. With such sadness and regret I was letdown by this place. Tasty and great experience! My husband and I had dinner at Bali Steakhouse during our stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village during our honeymoon in Hawaii in May. Bali Steakhouse is located in the Rainbow Tower (we stayed in the Ali'i tower during our stay at the resort) and we had a great view of the ocean from our table. Service was nice and the food was delicious. We ordered: -Wine (white) -Cocktails -Seared sea scallops -Crispy Brussels Sprouts -Filet Mignon steak with potatoes I definitely loved those delicious sea scallops and my hubby loved his filet. I don't know how many stars to put because this was a weird experience. Because the experience turned ugly, and I would never return or recommend the place, I'm going with one star. This place is called Bali, but it doesn't appear to serve any Asian or Asian-influenced foods. The menu looks entirely European, and the dining room is European style, but I ended up getting snubbed when asking for a simple espresso drink that they had already told me they have. Prior to finding this place on an in-person recommendation, I was looking to have a cappuccino and some small food item to go with it for my breakfast. I asked a couple of restaurants in the area, and no one had espresso drinks. There was a Starbucks, but I hate Starbucks and I didn't want to walk around with a paper cup. One hostess recommended I walk over to Bali, because she said it was a classy place that serves espresso drinks in the traditional way. Perfect. I walked about 15 minutes over there . The first thing I noticed coming out of the elevator was a dirty, stained carpet. The first room you come into is a bit depressing like a dingy, generic convention center ballroom. By now, I really wanted that coffee sooner than later, so I walked over to the restaurant reception desk and confirmed that they serve espresso drinks. They sent me down the hall to the hostess stand, and they also confirmed that they serve espresso drinks. There was a big menu of breakfast items posted outside the door, and there appeared to be enough selection that I could find something to eat as well. It is notable that no prices were listed on the menu outside the door. Once at your table, you will discover that the Belgian waffle, for example, is $30 (oct 2022). One of the two hostesses walked me back to the table, which has a spectacular view. The outdoor dining terrace was about half full. The waiter came over with a coffee pot and started to pour coffee in my cup, but I told him I wanted a cappuccino. He told me they don't serve espresso drinks. I explained that was the primary thing I was looking for, so I excused myself and started to leave. Walking past the hostess stand, they were curious why I was leaving. I told them they don't serve espresso drinks, so she tells me, oh our espresso machine is broken. I thought to myself why didn't you tell me that when I asked you 10 minutes ago if you serve espresso drinks? She explained that they have regular coffee and that's all they really like to drink in Hawaii. I thought, OK, that's fine, but I want a cappuccino. I said I was just a little surprised that Hilton in a major tourist zone didn't have a restaurant that serves espresso drinks. I politely asked where I might find a place that serves espresso drinks, and the second hostess says, "Europe." That snide answer was clearly meant to say "go away." I would not have walked in the door in the first place if you had told me you don't serve espresso drinks. Why is this so complicated? You are serving a European menu in a restaurant called Bali, and you told me you serve espresso drinks, then told me you don't serve espresso drinks, and then you told me to go to Europe to get an espresso drink. Last night we returned to Bali Oceanfront restaurant to celebrate a birthday, the first time back since the pandemic and since it has been rebranded and the menu updated. (Forgot to take photos though!) We do miss the bread, lavosh, and breadsticks that they used to put on the table - but that actually helped us save room for the delicious entrees. Some fish dishes that we previously enjoyed - like the grilled kampachi - disappeared from the menu, but the new menu is still fantastic. The service was spot-on; Summer was our server and she rocks! Great explanations and recommendations, fun conversation, perfect timing and genuine. She started us off with some fantastic cocktails, none of which were too sweet, and the oysters on the half shell - which were the biggest ones we've seen in Hawaii. Not just big, but scrumptious. The Osso Buco was so tender and the bone marrow that was left inside the bone was a great touch - eat it if you like, don't if you don't. The seafood in the tagliatelle was so plentiful, although the mahi mahi could have been a bit less salty. The shrimp and scallops and the light lobster cream sauce were delectable. The recommended New York strip was perfectly cooked with all the favor locked in. We finished it off with the mango cheesecake - again, not too sweet - and a complimentary personal chocolate birthday "cake". We are so glad that Bali is open again. Restaurant week was the excuse. The menu sounds bizarre and that prompted me to get adventurous. Unfortunately, if it walks like a duck... Toasted garlic vinaigrette with ahi sashimi (I know) baffled me. I guess the fish was supposed to be a foil for the garlic? The subtle flavor of the ahi is totally lost. The raw oysters with a STRAWBERRY mignonette, yes STRAWBERRY was in a class by itself. Its amazing how incredibly fishy and disgusting an oyster can taste when paired with fruit. Steaks are OK. Prime but not well trimmed or aged. They lack deep beefy flavor. My dining companions prime rib has large pieces of fat in the rib cap. For sides, stick to the usual. The green beans with Portuguese sausage was just unusual and totally obscured the flavor of the beef. Standard, uncreative, wine list. Hawaii resort pricing. Good service. Incredible ambiance. But especially the service, from the host seating us at the best view table overlooking the fabulous Waikiki Beach to the server, who was kind enough to explain the sizing portions of the appetizers when he knew we were aiming to share everything. It's rare to find a restaurant where the waiters are professional and elegant without an inch of pretension. The appetizers were stellar. We shared the $22.00 sampler, which included a little of everything, including melt-in-your-mouth maguro, beet salad with goat cheese garnish, miso scallops...it was all perfectly prepared and gobbled up without hesitation. Be warned...it was NOT easy to split it among four people. There were some gruesome moments that are so unsavory, I will spare you the details. We are not good at sharing in my family, in case you didn't already know from 1799 reviews describing my many escapades of stabbing people with forks, threatening "friends" with butter knives, and poking out eyeballs with coffee stirrers. I'm not proud of it. The main courses, although not inexpensive, were just as impressive. My tenderloin was perfectly cooked, even though I had asked for it basically charred black. It was nearly fork tender. The seafood was perfect, and may have well been fished straight out of the sea just before preparation. The sea bass was fresh and delicate, and the shrimp and lobster were both excellent. I should know, considering I ate off of everyone else's plates the entire night. At the end of the meal, they presented us with a little chocolate sculpted Diamond Head, filled with truffles. We ate the truffles, only to have them re-fill them again, and then pack the entire plate of deliciousness into a box for us to take home. WOO! I would love to say I will be returning to Bali's every year for Christmas, as it has become my new favorite swanky spot to dine. Sadly, the rumor mill has it that the place will be closing down in the future (date unknown), due to cutbacks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Boo. Bali's is the type of restaurant I thought didn't exist anymore...friendly, accommodating, personable, and on top of all that, fancy-shmancy enough to take your most critical of parents. Bravo, Bali. The waitress was friendly, they do not have kids menu on paper, but she told us what they can do,steak with either fries or mash potato. Ok we ordered that, we ordered the drink, we ordered the prefix menu for the adults. Ten minute later, our drink arrived, so did the kids meal! There was no bread bought to our table, we had to ask for it twice. By the time our appetizer came, the kids were almost done with their dinner. So the rest of the dinner felt odd, because the kids had to watch us eat our main entree for a good 30 - 45 min. We tried both the prime rib and the macadamia nut pan fried mahi mahi,, both lacked flavor and weren't that good by our standard. Dessert wasn't anything spectacular either. What came at the end was the bill which was a shocker - the tiny portion kids' steak dinner was $23 a piece!! Wished I knew that before I came here, as I had three kids meal to pay for!! So my advice, go elsewhere to eat! If you have kids, do not bring the, here, $23 can feed the kid many plate of gyoza in Hanajuban the noodle place onsite. For adults, unless you don't want to leave the resort and absolutely don't want to eat at other restaurants, then you might have a reason to come here. If I wanted a Maine lobster, I could get that back home. The little tail meat that was in the lobster was mushy, and the claws were not proportional with the body.... I asked if waiter if the lobster was alive, and cooked to order, and he said it was cooked today...but the texture of the meat said otherwise.... We started with the steakhouse classic, a wedge salad; iceberg lettuce, house cured bacon, sweet yellow Maui onion, chopped egg and tomato dressing. I'm a Blue Cheese fan, but the tomato dressing paired well with our Oregon Pinot noir. It's a tasty departure from the norm that serves two. For our main course, we chose the Tomahawk for Two; a 36 oz. 28-day dry aged Prime Ribeye steak. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Succulent and juicy with a hot red center. If you haven't shared a frenched bone-in steak with your sweetheart under the tropical moonlight with the Pacific trade winds gently blowing through your hair, I highly recommend it. My husband took my family here for my mother's birthday while we were in Hawaii. It is a nice place with ocean view located at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. There were eight of us so we were able to try different dishes. I especially enjoyed the salt roasted Kanpachi filet. It was seasoned and roasted just right. My husband and my stepson shared Tomahawk. I had a bite of it, it was pretty tender. You get to pick different sauces and butters that goes along with the steak. I thought Maui onion demi is the best. Our two servers were very friendly and I was amazed by how many Japanese words they know. They made Birthday dessert plates for my mother with Malasadas. _Used_ to be one of my favorite places. Very sad to say that while the wait staff is just as good, the food has taken a really, really bad turn for the worse. The prices are as high as ever but the portions are getting smaller. Add to that food is.... well just not good. Pedestrian food served in ugly cast iron vessels. My braised rib came in a "microwave looking" cast iron container. It looked similar to a microwave container. The food, not hot and too salty. The sides were ok, I could make it myself a lot better.
