I always stop here when I'm in Red Hook (along with Fairway, Brooklyn Ice House, and Dry Dock). They have pretty decent coffee, awesome brownies, and cheap marshmellows. Being a red velvet fanatic I had to have the perfect red velvet wedding cake. Lucky for me I knew just where to go. Baked provided a four tiered red velvet cake of perfection. The staff was so great and attentive and helped me make sure the shade of yellows for the outside icing were just right. Most importantly, not only did it look incredible, it tasted incredible. People raved about the cake and everyone was estactic that there wasn't a thick layer of fondant (which was banned from even discussions for our wedding) like most wedding cakes. Baked also provided cupcakes as a part of the desert table which were also a really big hit. Recently, now a year after our wedding, we went back to get a red velvet cake to celebrate our wedding and it's still just as amazing as ever!! read more

The cake was not outrageously expensive like some bakers in this city and they were by far the most responsive vendor we worked with, with almost immediate responses! This is one of my favorite places in NYC, and a sure stop in Red Hook. I don't have a sweet tooth (must be a genetic mutation) but they use the freshest, highest quality ingredients to bake up some amazing treats with fresh coffees and teas. Actually, make sure to try the delicious soups and panini sandwiches as well. And get some of the cool t-shirts before they run out and become collectibles! Their designs are limited production. I really liked the atmosphere of the place. It was super laid back and really relaxing. It's a good place to just sit back and chill with a sweet treat and some coffee. Had the following: - Piece of sweet & salty cake ($4.25): They were out of these cupcakes by late afternoon, so we went for the cake. It was a very generous slice. The cake was very moist. The icing was not super dense like the buttercream ones from Magnolia & friends. The sprinkle of salt on the edges of the cake were nice. My only complaint is I wish there was more salt sprinkled throughout the cake. Also, I'm not sure if I could taste the salted caramel that was supposedly infused throughout the cake. I don't think this cake would taste as good if you tried to save it for a couple hours. I could already tell the last bite was not nearly as moist as the first. Maybe the cupcakes would fare better. - Lemondrop cupcake ($1.75): The lemon curd saved the cake. The cupcake would not have been very good without the filling. I did not like the icing. While their website says it's lemon buttercream, it tasted more like meringue. This place is a fairly long trek from Manhattan and sort of in the middle of nowhere. If you're in the area (e.g., shopping at Ikea), definitely stop by. It was really good, but I'm not sure if I'd make the trek again. read more

My friend suggested we hit up this bakery after lunch one day and I'm so glad she did! We stopped in for a quick sugary pick me up. I brought home 2 cookies for me and my man. One monster cookie with peanut butter and m&m's, and one just-out-of-the-oven yummy chocolate chip cookie. Both were wonderful. The place was packed, which is always a good sign. Neighborhoody place on Van Brundt street. To be honest the space is a little too dark and not my type of decor, but the cupcakes are quite good. 2 bucks nowadays is not totally unheard of ( although it's a little smaller than the usual cupcake). The sweet and salty and the pistachio ones were my favorite! The butter cream frosting is DIVINE! The cake itself is really light and yummy too. This place is solidly three stars for me. If I really want a cupcake and I'm nearby, I'll go here because the cupcakes are decent. They're not really my cupcake-style, though...the icing is kind of strangely like butter instead of icing. It almost feels kind of watery? I'm bad at describing textures. I do appreciate all the flavors (and agreed, the salty chocolate one is delicious!) and the fact that they're not overly sweet. The cupcakes can be kind of dry, though, which contrasts strangely with the buttery icing. The ambiance here is alright, it was a bit dark inside but there was a lot of seating so this seems like a good place to sit and work with your laptop or have a conversation between friends over some baked goods and a coffee. I came here for pie but it was 5 o'clock on a Sunday and they didn't have any (sadface), so I got some cupcakes instead. The cupcakes were good. The cake wasn't anything special (red velvet and chocolate), it was moist and fluffy but it was lacking in flavor. The real winner was the frosting. It was this amazingly light and creamy vanilla bean frosting that wasn't too sweet or heavy. It was an burst of vanilla in frosting form. I would suggest the chocolate because it had more flavor than the red velvet, which didn't have cream cheese frosting and tasted like plain cake. I would buy another cupcake just for that amazing frosting. All in all, the cupcakes weren't a proper substitute for the pie I was craving (still sadface about it) but they were still tasty and small enough (about 2 inches across) to eat two without feeling disgusted with yourself. read more

Okay so here we are 4 years later and I have to say that I didn't give up on Baked. Alot of your reviews were so positive and so I called them again 3 years ago and had a completely difference experience. Suffice it to say that I have called them at least 5 other times and each time, they have been super friendly, eager to help and answer questions, fun to talk to, and very knowledgable about their cakes. I always et someone who actually eats them too so I can find out what's good instead of getting the super healthy vegan person who says, "I don't know...I don't eat it so I don't know..." They eat the delicious goodness they sell!! I have been happy with every cake I have tried except for the oreo one--the cake was dry. :( But the Dulce, the classic birthday cake, and the sweet & salty (this one was a HUGE hit with my peeps) have all been super delish. I had forgotten all about writing that one star review back in 2013. So I am writing this one to update you. They have not only (seemingly) replaced nasty grumpy guy with some of the friendliest people in the world, but their cakes are the best ever at extremely affordable prices. I won't take that last review down (yet) because it actually happened so hopefully they will stay on their toes about it. But you're gonna love them if you try them out now. read more

I had to make a trip out to Red Hook for this bakery. It has been talked about on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network and mentioned in a special "Best Sweets of NYC" in the Sunday Daily News. It's a quaint bakery in a quaint neighborhood with a very good reputation for delivering the goods. I bought the Sweet and Salty Brownie, a slice of Sweet and Salty Cake, and a Peanut Butter and Banana S'mores Bar. All incredibly creative creations that were very inexpensive. The quality of the ingredients themselves is extremely important when baking and here at Baked, they completely understand that principle. No imitation banana flavor, no day old frosting, and no day-old tastes here. Everything is fresh and it smells it! I would go back and order more but unless you are willing to deal with the overwhelming scent of sugar and butter baking, I would not recommend sitting there. What a terrific place this is! The Spicy Hot Chocolate (spring for the homemade marshmallow too) was out of this world, perhaps the best I have ever had. I happened to check my email that yelp sent me , noticed they recommended baked, saw the address and got excited because I was going to be in the Red Hook area. I saw the rave review and got even more excited lol. I had the pumpkin whoopie pie and a coffee and will be going back. I've read about this place and seen about it on television. I recently went to Manhattan to visit family and I made Baked a top priority. The staff was kind and friendly. As for the baked goods, I was disappointed. My husband and I picked an assortment of things and nothing blew us away. The sweet & salty brownie was okay. I tasted sweet, no salty, but it was a pre-packaged brownie wrapped in cellophane. We tried an apple tart, a Brookey (brownie and chocolate chip cookie), a few chocolate marshmallows and a hot chocolate. The only highlight was the marshmallow. Even the $4.50 small hot chocolate was a disappointment. Unfortunately, it was not worth it for the price or the distance we travelled. read more

I attended a wedding in Brooklyn last weeked and sought this place out. to my disapointment, I was handed a celo-wrapped brownie out of a jar. If there was a ribbon of carmel, I didn't see it. Their baked goods were excellent. I especially enjoyed their sea salt brownies. Their cupcakes were a bit dry, but the frostings on them more than make up for that. I had the lemon passion fruit cupcake, and took me back to the tropics.. One weird thing was one of the employees put down a reserved card to reserve the table in five minutes on my table where I was waiting for my sisters to make their purchases. I hadn't purchased anything get, so maybe she thought I was loitering. After my sisters joined me with their cupcakes and brownies, she didn't come back again and I noticed she was meeting with someone, maybe for a catering job. So I decided to make the "pilgrimage" to The Immortal BAKED establishment. And it a good experience. I got there maybe an hour before closing time. They had a wide selection of different sweet treats and different coffees and espressos and other assorted hot and cold drinks. I was there for 2 items........ one..... the brookster aka the brookie and two....... a slice of bakeds' warm delicious apple pie! I was out of luck because the pies were finished. But I did have a chance to devour the brookster. It was delicious I accompanied the delight with a cup of milk. I wanted to love this place on reviews, but I am super disappointed. I bought a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting for my mother's 60th birthday party. It is ALL she wanted. And honestly, that type of cake is hard to screw up. The cake was terrible. Dense. Dry. Impossible to swallow The frosting was paste. Also terrible. I could most definitely have made a better Duncan Heins cake. And I can't bake at all. Don't get your cake here. Ever. read more
