Took my partner here for his birthday. Everything tasted amazing! For drinks we got a dubai chocolate martini and a cappuccino and for food we got the spanakopita, blondie and the bread pudding. I especially LOVED the cappuccino, absolutely perfect. My only critiques is there could be just a tad bit more lighting in the back, it was pretty dim and a little difficult to read the menus. First time at Bailey's' Chocolate Bar in probably a decade! Went with some girlfriends - glad we made a reservation, as the space is fairly small. It is so gorgeous inside, a bit dark, and could be slightly loud (but shout out to whoever had a Disney playlist on!). Service was good and our waitress was very friendly! We each got a martini - the classic, the very dark, and the espresso - all were delicious!! Such a disappointment. We had came here several years and I remember it being so good and a fun atmosphere. Last night showed me all good things come to an end. We started off with an expresso martini and the salted caramel martini, both were so good that we decided to try more drinks and forgo the actual dessert. Then we tried the Sunset and chocolate covered cherry drink, both were absolutely disgusting. You could drink it with a spoon, the texture was like eating apple sauce. When I mentioned this to our waitress, her response was " yea, some people don't like the texture ". I'm not looking for a free drink, but she did not offer to replace it or make it better. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant. I think the art of dessert drinks is more common, so next time I'll stick with dessert at the restaurant rather than making another stop. read more

This was the final stop we made for my birthday dinner plans on Thursday evening. The espresso martini was TO DIE FOR--the best I've ever had. They were out of several of their desserts, so I didn't get to try the chocolate orange cheesecake (the reason we went there in the first place). It was disappointing, but we settled on the banana split--ya definitely cant go wrong! I'm still dreaming about the layer of crunchy brûlée on the banana. Baileys' exceeded my expectations, which were already high because I love chocolate and chocolate martinis! I love that they take reservations too. With the ambiance, it can be a cute romantic or friend date spot, and there is plenty of options for food and drinks. My friends and I focused on trying the drinks but one of them enjoyed the flatbread they ordered. What a lovely experience. Our server Astor was exceptionally good. He was so nice and has such a gentle manner. He made the evening so nice. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and very cozy. We started with drinks, an espresso martini and strawberry whiskey. Both were very good. Bailey's Chocolate Bar is mostly known for dessert but they have a few savory items. Bailey's is a longtime establishment in St. Louis. It is located in Lafyette Square which is an area of the city I have always enjoyed. It is a place I tend to go to other restaurants in the area, but stopped in one night after eating at the Polite Society. This is probably the biggest knock for the spot, I don't view it really as an option for food. They do have a modest food menu, but it is definitely thought of as a drinks and dessert place. That probably is inherently tied into the fact it is a chocolate bar! I don't think of that theme overlapping with many great main dishes. I've heard reasonable things about their dishes, but it isn't what anyone really talks about and I've never heard anyone say they went to Baily's for the food. The ambiance is pretty good but very dark. This gives it a romantic vibe. The place is always busy, typically a mixture of couples on dates and girls' nights. I think every time I've been in there was an all girls birthday celebration or bachelorette group. People tend to be dressed up, with this being one of many stops on a night out for many patrons. I think for these sort of activities it is a great spot. I mean my wife and I stopped in on a date night to get a dessert. That is the drawback though, it serves a bit of a niche role in the food/restaurant community in St. Louis. For that role it is great, but it limits it appeal to a degree. If you think a chocolate martini and a slice of indulgent cake sounds great stop in. If you want a porterhouse steak and craft beer go somewhere else. read more

The Bailey's Brownie was our favorite thing we ordered; it was so rich and delicious. The Hazelnut Torte was also really good. So much to like about Bailey's. It's such a quaint location and a cozy environment. I really like the menu. It's a creative hodge-podge of fun favorites. Edamame, garlic fries, and a host of sweets. Much of it is good, but some of the items are just a little off in their execution. For example, the flatbread is super crispy yet the toppings on the caprese are gooey and don't really meld with the bread. Just tastes rather flat than a tangy, spicy taste of tomato and/or basil. The chocolate brownie looks great, is a little on the crunchy side, but is cloyingly sweet. Sugar overpowers what should be a great, chocolaty treat. Could easily cut the sugar in half and probably have a better brownie. Tiramisu almost had the opposite issue. Thick, coarse bread rather than delicate layers really held the tiramisu back. These are just some of the examples. Regardless, we had a fun time here; the food is still good, but could be better with some minor changes to execution. read more

Soooooo....uh ooh! Ok, so I have been here countless fantastic times before AND I won't let this particular evening spoil the other times! The Brownie Royal was HUGE and can be easily shared by more than two. Bailey's Brownie was smaller but honestly it could be shared also. Everything was decadent and I LOVED the Brulee Banana on the Royal. Also, they no longer uses the upstairs and RESERVATIONS are strongly encouraged due to the small size of the main floor. I was advised that on nice days the Patio is open. But, the Server this evening was AWFUL. Thank goodness for the relaxing and warm atmosphere and Delicious Desserts. He didn't say his name, the name on the receipt said Lynn W but I don't think that was his name. His demeanor was "Bothered" and rude! I will say he was consistent because the table next to us felt the same. It always surprises me when horrific servers are surprised by the Gratuity that is left. Here's an example...HE TOWERED OVER ME, Trying to intimidate me when it was time to add the the tip and show how grateful I was of his service. I had NO PROBLEM showing!! I went with a group of girlfriends for a much needed hangout session. They've updated the menu again and have gotten back to the focus of desserts and drinks. All the way positive in my opinion. We went for drinks and light snacks. I ordered the salted caramel old fashioned and I was quite pleased with my selection. My friends ordered the signature chocolate martini and the sexual martini. Everyone seemed pleased with their libations. Moving on to snacks. Lin was our server and it felt like maybe one of two servers that night. He did a fantastic job managing the crowd and working with the world's slowest chef. We gave grace considering maybe someone's new and unfamiliar with the menu? Anywho, when we finally got our snacks we were happy with the quality of the food and the taste. It took almost 3 hours for the whole experience. Stopped in for the first time after dinner in Soulard. I had heard great things about this little spot and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful little bar with a great, knowledgable staff that welcomed us the moment we arrived. We were just interested in dessert after dinner, but were swayed by the sound of their signature martini. All of the martinis sounded great, but as a first timer, I chose the house favorite and it was exceptional. To round out the evening, I shared "The Blonde", which is a light brownie / cookie covered with white chocolate, ice cream and caramel sauce. Do I need to say anything more? Came with a friend of mine on a Saturday night. We had a reservation so we didn't have to wait at all. However, they placed us in a very cramped corner at the smallest standing table possible. We came for a light dinner and drinks and were not at all sure how it would all fit. We ordered a few items off their Nosh menu and as we suspected, the plates they served them on were way too big for the table. So much so that we had to eat directly off the serving plates as they didn't even offer us appetizer plates. The espresso martini was phenomenal. The food was decent but was heavy on the sweet side. What really dropped their score was about 90 minutes in (we had ordered another round of drinks and were catching up) they told us that we needed to leave in 15 minutes because they had another reservation! Looking around there were a bunch of empty tables. We were shocked that they didn't warn us before we ordered another round. We also checked to see if there was a 2 hour limit per reservation and didn't find anything. It was really disappointing because we were having a great time. read more

It's been many years since I've been to Baileys but we stopped by recently for dessert after dinner. We asked to be seated outside but I probably should have chosen inside for a little more space. I ordered a wine flight and the peanut butter pie. The wine flight wasn't my favorite pairing and one was too sweet to drink but to be fair it's listed as fully sweet in the description. Cool, romantic vibes; good service; but the food and desserts fell short. Wish it weren't so! Weird to have this experience after putting this on our list for our short trip to STL. For savory food we got the caprese flatbread and grilled shrimp - six pieces of small shrimp for $16 - neither impressed us. The flatbread wasn't cut in a way to make it easy to eat. I get the sense few people order savory food here? My partner remarked that we should've just gone with the cheese plate. The hazlenut "torte" was an unmemorable chocolate cake, served cold (tough to slice), with four caramelized hazlenuts (these were tasty but short-lived) and pomegranate sauce. It could've used a lot more sauce (and therefore tanginess) to counter the density and sweetness of the cake. There was also a tuile cookie, but it was bland and chalky. We didn't try the specialty drinks, which are all dessert drinks. They had a decent selection of draft beer but none were available, and I ended up with an IPA from a can. If you're craving a sugar bomb, this might hit the spot, but it wasn't for us. read more

Visited Sunday night with my friend for some drinks and light bites before a show reservation. I finally got to try Baileys and based on years prior suggestions from friends, something felt amiss from how my first time here was. Service was okay but somehow with about four tables our server seemed a bit stressed. It didn't seem terribly stressful but maybe they had a rough day, it happens! He was still trying his best. The drinks were also just okay. The ingredients for my chocolate raspberry martini had no garnish and for some reason the glass was just over half full when it arrived. Given the delay for our drinks I didn't want to say anything so we tried to make the best of it. I also got a duck sausage flatbread. It arrived barely warm and with very minimal ingredients and not in a good way. The balsamic drizzle was the only wet ingredient on the bread and it lacked any flavor or texture. Perhaps some cherry olive oil, or gastrique or something to bring dimension to the dish. This was mostly thrown together and not exciting or good. I ate it more out of pure hunger than joy. I would stop in again to see if my first visit was just an off night for them because I still want to believe Baileys has what it takes for good drinks and food but my first time wasn't it. read more
