I do appreciate the variety of offerings, but was surprised to see a pumpkin cheesecake available but not pumpkin pie! I got a Franken-pie and was disappointed that the apple pie was one of the worst slices out of the bunch, right along with the blueberry pina colada. The texture and flavors of both slices just weren't great. The buttercream was delicious though! I'd come back to give them another chance, if not for the service alone!

They were offering free milkshakes to the first 100 participants and we were lucky enough to score one of those gifts! We decided to just take one and share it and decided on the Frozen Hot Chocolate, which is made with Blue Bell chocolate ice cream, hot cocoa mix, chocolate sauce, marshmallow fluff and a "kosher" marshmallow. I'm just not a big sugar fiend so I found the shake to be extremely sweet and gooey...wife loved it! I didn't try the marshmallow but she said it was good and she could tell it was homemade. We decided we would try the store in Gilbert at some point this summer to see what other goodies they offer. Overall, a good treat and thank you for the free goodie! Sorry, there was so much going on at the moment, I didn't take a photo of the actual milkshake!

Gelato is something I love to indulge on occasion, and after a couple Yelper friends reviewed, I had this on my radar to try. When my friends today mentioned wanting dessert after lunch, I suggested this as it was in proximity to where we met for ramen. The owner (I presume) greeted us and so did his brother who was seated in the lobby. They boasted it was the best gelato in Arizona, and it was authentic like Italy. I was skeptical at first as a lot can talk a big game, but then you try it and it's average. Stracciatella is a classic flavor and one of my favorites, so I requested a sample. It was very creamy, but the dark chocolate helped cut the sweetness. I ordered a piccolo (small) and it was just the right size for a treat. My friends ordered behind me and I found a spot for us to sit and chat. The interior is mostly tables for two chairs, but we made a table of three. In the future, I'd probably grab to go as it's fairly small. Still a solid choice for a sweet treat and I would recommend it if you are in the area.

I opted for the Ham and cheese croissant, and the sausage croissant. Both breading was fantastic. Good flavor, airy yet crispy, just really well made. I will definitely come back for the ham and cheese croissant. The sausage croissant wasn't really for me (the bread was) it truly is a big sausage in there. It had good flavor, just isn't for me. If they could make just a plain cheese or bacon and cheese that would hit the spot lol We also got their regular cinnamon roll. The breading had a lovely sweet cinnamon flavor and the icing on top had a delicious creamy taste without being overly sweet. The odd part for us was the filling in the inside. I couldn't decide if I cared for it or not, I was almost feeling it was pushing the sweetness over just a bit so l may or may not get that again. Even tho they have seating inside, it feels more like a grab and go. You can def enjoy your item there. But I wouldn't say a spot where you can sit and catch up with a Friend or read a book. It also felt a bit too warm and stuffy so cranking down the AC a bit would help it feel more inviting especially from coming outside from the Arizona heat. AZ Chimney Cakes specializes in Kürtöskalács, a.k.a chimney cakes, an incredible dessert that originated in Hungary. I have Romanian roots and Kürtöskalács are quite popular in Romania. That's where I had my first chimney cake. Located in the same shopping center as a movie theater, a Japanese restaurant, and a bunch of other businesses, I parked without any issues in the free back lot and walked over. Ambiance (4/5): A cozy dessert shop. I felt right at home when I saw a map of Bucharest by the entrance. You order at the counter and then they bring your order out to you. We sat at a table close to the door. Service (5/5): Friendly service and we were fortunate enough to chat with the owner for quite a bit. We learned about the history of the dessert spot and how they're trying out some new ideas. Nice lady. Drinks (N/A): No drinks for me on this visit. Food (5/5): If you've never has a chimney cake, you're in for a treat. They're made to order and customizable. More so than anywhere I've ever seen. You choose your base, toppings, additions, and drizzles. I went with the traditional chimney cake with Biscoff cookies, vanilla ice cream, and Nutella drizzle. Outside of the dessert options, which are the way to go for first timers, if you're feeling adventurous, they also have one or two savory options. The chimney cakes are served warm and absolutely delicious. They're filling too so come with an appetite. It's one of those things everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. So cool to have them in Mesa!
