A pair of Mediterranean Open Face Bagels!
Jimmy C.

While Noah's Bagel had been the first and the most popular bagel café, Boichik Bagel is slowly trying to gain popularity. But there's one bagel café that flashes out like a hidden gem to the rest of the neighborhood, Bageletto. The same o' bagel selections followed by its same o' shmears, thought I find the time to customize my order to make it full vegan. But after reading its entire menu, I decided to order the Mediterranean style instead. A blueberry flavored bagel, grape tomatoes, diced cucumbers, seasoned onions, kalamata olives, bits of feta cheese, and its cultural dressing. Pretty colorful, don't you think? A pair of open-face in a rectangular clamshell. Just enough to call it breakfast in one setting. Might be back to to see what type of bagel I like to customize.

Got the garlic bagel with egg and cheese. It had a fluffy egg with a good cheese pull. Sort of cheesy like some bagel sandwiches in SF.

In search for the best bagels in San Francisco brings to my old neighborhood in the Mission District . Finding a good bagel in San Francisco has got easier than in the past. Lots of places are now offering good bagels. What makes a good bagel place even better is ingredients they also put on a bagel like their everything bagel , sesame bagel, and blueberry bagel and they're made from scratch. They also have pizza bagels like their Brooklyn Pizza. I wanted to explore more so I decided to give it a whirl. On a Three Kings Day rare winter weather Mission District stroll , I landed at Bageletto. Inside it had a few tables in the front but in the back there was a bakery making the bagels from scratch. The menu had lots of good toppings to spread on the bagels. They have fresh schemar like the Sicilian Cherry and Scallion Schmear. I ordered the Garlic Bagel with the Lox schmear and it was creamy and cheesy like some in SF. The Lox was savory and blended in well with the schmear. I then wanted to try their Classic Egg & Cheese bagel sandwich and it was tasty. I will say this is in my top 5 places to grab a bagel. I wouldn't say it's the king of San Francisco when it comes to bagels but it is off to a great start. Get bagels made from"scratch" so "catch"and get a new fresh "batch"from onion to garlic you can mix and "match" It's located the Mission District where my family "settled "their bagels are at another "level" they are my top 5 bagel places they should win a "medal" for one of the best bagels in San Francisco at "Bageletto"

Lox and loaded + smash

I am torn in the best way. We ordered the Lox and Loaded and the Smash Bagel and the total was $33 which is kind of insane and the only thing keeping it from five stars. The quality also kind of justifies it, the bagel itself is dense, chewy, and legit, and when I asked the staff, they said they make them in-house and they're kettle boiled. It immediately reminded me of the bagels I've had in nyc, and I haven't had one in SF that hit that same itch this well. As for the sandwiches: the Lox and Loaded tasted super put-together -- the cream cheese felt really fresh and house-made, and the smoked lox was solid. The Smash Bagel was also great: perfectly ripe avocado and juicy, sweet tomatoes that tasted genuinely fresh. Service and ambiance were exactly what you'd expect from a higher-end bagel place. We went on a Saturday morning, it was pretty chill, and the order took about 15 minutes, which felt totally reasonable was good time to catch up with a friend. Overall, you're definitely paying a sf premium, but if you want a bagel that actually scratches that ny bagel craving, this place delivers and I'd go again.

Calabrian chili and cheese bagel with bacon and fig schmear

Walked in to check this out. It's small and not much seating. We tried a breakfast sandwich and the Calabrian chili and cheese bagel with bacon and fig schmear. Both were great. Bagels were fresh and flavors good. Nice amount of schmear on the bagel and good amount of filling in the breakfast sandwich. I appreciated the amount of bacon and being able to see the chunks of bacon in the schmear. Only a small wait but not bad and service was friendly. Looked like one person at the register makes the drinks and the back makes the food. Price point is fairly typical for the city but still feels a bit much for bagels.

As you enter the SoMa neighborhood on 14th Street, you see the Rainbow Grocery Co-op, Pink Onion and bagel sandwich-ed in between is Bageletto. I've had a ton of bagels from the city and Bageletto has firmly secured the number one spot on my list. I went at 11am on a Tuesday and didn't have to compete with a crowd. Staff was attentive and warm, my fave. There was only one seat and two chairs inside the clean, industrial, modern, minimalist and naturally-lit space and it looked like a huge industrial kitchen in the back. I did find a spot in the outdoor limited seating and enjoyed a peacefully, sunny and tree-lined street. I ordered the Lox supreme open-faced bagel for $18, which is a luxury in these days. But if you want to treat yourself to a premium lox bagel, this is it. It looks simple, Everything bagel, cold-smoked lox, capers and pink pickled onions. But as I took my first bite, the moist, slightly-chewy bagel on the thinner side with a crisp topped with an appropriate amount of fixins, each bite was divine. It felt like the perfect brunch, I recommend to everyone and I can't wait to go back when I can.

Today's (8/17/25) special: coppa, grilled peaches, black truffle spread, wildflower honey on a plain bagel

I finally got to try Bageletto at Rainbow Grocery's 50th Anniversary Block Party yesterday. Though I love an egg and cheese bagel, I wanted something different for my first time. The specials caught my eye. Because I felt a little bougie, I got the one with the black truffle spread. It was also topped with coppa and grilled peaches, drizzled with wildflower honey. It was delicious! The black truffle added umami notes that weren't overpowering. The coppa added a silky saltiness. And the peaches and honey added the sweetness. It came open faced on a plain bagel, which itself had a nice crust and chewiness. Since there was a lot of people at the block party, it did take awhile to get my order. But that was expected. Luckily there was a decent amount of seating outside due to the party. Otherwise, there's a few tables on regular days. Bageletto is located behind Rainbow Grocery on the same block. It's a garage space, so there's no seating inside. I'm definitely coming back to try a classic egg and cheese.

Been meaning to try bageletto for a while so I was super excited to get to try! There's only one table inside so would recommend getting this as takeout. We tried the mattina cotto on a calabrian bagel. Definitely the softest bagel, I wish it did have more of a crunch. Didn't know what to expect with a calabrian bagel but didn't get much flavor from it - not worth the $1 upgrade. Cheese pull goes crazy.

first time to bageletto after driving through the neighborhood and missing the exit onto the freeway. Glad we went a different route to check out this new bagel spot. They had a variety of options from sweet to savory. Limited seating was the ambience, but you could take your bagel to go like we did The service was good, they notified us when our order was ready and even made recommendations

I've been wanting to go to Bageletto in the SF Chronicle! They wrote about how the owners perfected a recipe that could "muster" in both NYC and SF (whose water and weather are not "suited" for the style.) Bageletto bagels differ from most bagels in that they weigh roughly 180 grams (compared to 120-130 grams, which is typical of most SF bagels.) They have fun flavors. I enjoyed jalapeño cheese, garlic, Calabrian chili cheese, and sesame. As fitting heavier bagels, they're great for making sandwiches and putting food in them. They're thick and sturdy but not overly heavy (when you're eating them.) I froze them and they tasted great toasted. Will be back to try one of their sandwiches and specialty drinks. They have some seating inside and outside which looked like a vibe. Service was very nice and helpful. I liked looking in the back to see them baking!

"Fire as helllll bruh, on gawd. No cap."- The kids. These bagels were probably made the same day, smackin. My boy got a fancy ahh one, I'm just a regular shmegular shmear dude.

FYI: I'm moved from Philadelphia but grew up in New Jersey. I know a good bagel. PROS: All east coast transplants know that San Francisco is where bagels come to die. If the incorrect texture of the bagel doesn't press your buttons, then the lack of schmear definitely will. HOWEVER, Bageletto is a shining beacon of hope in this bagel dystopia of a city. I decided to give it a try after I saw someone talk about it in an Instagram reel and they showed the amount of schmear that they put on the bagel. I saw that glimmer of hope and decided to take a chance. And I'm so glad I did. The texture of this bagel was exactly like the kinds I would get back in Jersey, bouncy and chewy with a good crust on the outside so that you can eat it untoasted (as you should), and the cross section almost made me cry out of sheer happiness. There was at least an inch of schmear, which is my minimum for a good bagel experience. It was like I was back home. CONS: Our first time here, they accidentally gave us the wrong order but they were super apologetic about it. They also have VERY limited seating and it's all outside so be prepared to either wait it out, eat standing up, or just do what we did and eat in the car.

Mediocre bagels in the city. The bagels didn't feel freshly made and were really hard. The cream cheese itself is really delicious and unique, but as far as pricing and quality I do not recommend it here. Service is good. Ambiance is pretty, but I give this place a 6/10 overall. I definitely wouldn't come back

As a former New Yorker, I hereby appoint myself judge and jury on all things bagel-related in San Francisco. And the verdict is in: this little newcomer delivers. But let's not bury the lede--the chopped cheese sandwich is the star of the show. Is it the only chopped cheese in San Francisco? Quite possibly. And frankly, even if it isn't.... it's the one to beat. We're talking hamburger meat, melty cheese, "shred-uce" (shredded lettuce, obviously), tomato, and love, all packed into a house-made chewy baguette that walks the line between crusty perfection and soft indulgence. One bite and my New York soul did a double take. This sandwich could cure a hangover, a breakup, or a general loss of faith in humanity (which, quite frankly is my current lament). Also possibly induce a small heart attack--but soooo friggin' worth it. We also grabbed an everything bagel to go. Solid. Respectable. But honestly, skip the bagel fanfare and come here for that glorious sandwich (Now a place of honor in my top 10 SF sammies). There is no indoor seating. None. Zip, Nada. But they give you a list of nearby spots to enjoy your meal (see my photo). We took our bounty to In Chan Kaajal Park, just a short stroll away, and it was the perfect al fresco pairing. Final ruling: Guilty... of being spectacular!!!!!!!!!.
